Very relaxing and a nice atmosphere! I would definitely stay there again.

Very cozy Place, it gave the feeling of being at home. It Had everything you need a hostel (shared kitchen, washing machine, dryer, …), with all the comforts of a home. The beds were the most comfortable we have encountered in months, it was like sleeping among clouds. The Staff was very friendly and helpful.

We stayed here as part of our 2 day great ocean road and philip island tour, and Shaun and Bella were the best hosts! The place is well equipped with a comfy lounge area, a fully stocked kitchen, and even a barbecue area out back. The beds were really comfortable, and toilets were very clean. There’s a laundry area available as well, which we didn’t use. Even though we were only here for one night, I would imagine that a longer stay would be really comfortable. Also, still can’t get over how gorgeous Bella is. Thanks so much Shaun!

One of the best hostels I've been to. The owner is great. Facilities are clean and adequate. Everyone was friendly and respectful.

Very clean and welcoming back packers! Really enjoyed the stay and the great common areas. All facilities and rooms were extremely clean. Bella is a beautiful special little touch, after a relatively big night at the drop festival she was a wonderful surprise cuddle in the morning ❤️

One of my favorite hostels! So warm, welcoming, and friendly. All rooms and bathrooms are clean and well kept. Both Bella and Sean are amazing and Sean has some great travel tales himself. Even though my stay was quite short (2 nights), I would highly recommend this hostel for anyone passing through and I hope to return again.

Nice, clean and friendly place. Stayed there for a week and had the chance to meet many interesting people. Torquay is not a big city and the hostel is small, so it is easy to find good friends even if you're travelling by yourself.

The location was gorgeous: quiet en beautiful landscape. You have everything you need in the house, except for Wi-Fi ;) We were welcomed once we arrived and the overal service was perfect. Definitely recommend this place!

Sean and Bella are very welcoming and accommodating. The grounds are clean the shared kitchen is clean, I stayed in the vanpackers area and met some great people. And of course the best surfing is just around the corner! Will be back and highly recommend!

The hostel was unfortunately disappointing. Our booking for beds in 2 dorm rooms was spread across not only 3 rooms, but two separate buildings, the bathroom facilities in the back room were uncleaned and unfinished (urine on seats, no lock, toilet rolls un-mounted) and the windows did not lock, reducing security of the room. Bathrooms in the main house were also very dirty. While the hostel provided a good base for a group to stay in Torquay, the facilities could really use some TLC.

This hostel is a great place to be in on your way through the Great Ocean Road! The kitchen is fully equipped and properly blended into a comfortable living room. The one thing I loved was the Free Food zone, where people leave behind all sorts of useful ingredients :) Furthermore, all the hostel, from room to showers is incredibly clean, which is quite surprising given the amount of people that fit in. The location couldn't be better, one minute walk away from the bus stops and no more than 10 from the surf shops and seaside. The only drawback is the lack of a pedestrian crossing spot in front of the hostel. You have to cross two fast lanes, which is not a problem except if you have gone out for some drinks during the night. But I guess that's more of a municipality issue than the hostel itself :) I enjoyed my stay there and I will definitely come back again!

Facilities were clean and the hostel owner nice — including the dog :) Location is right next to a big highway that goes through the town so it gets quite loud inside the dorms. The kitchen is free to use and you can store your groceries in small shelves and inside the fridge — if you find a free spot as always. Atmosphere wasn't really existent as the living room area isn't the nicest.

Ace hostel! Sean and Bella (the friendly black Labrador dog) are super friendly and I had a great stay. The place is super clean, well organised and Sean is super friendly, helpful and an amazing guy… There is a great friendly vibe at the hostel and more of a "small family vibe" as opposed to other places where people don't talk to each other and listen to loud music. I would highly recommend Base backpackers in Torquay!

The place is very good. Feels like home and it is amazing to see the dog Bella walk around and make you feel welcome. Good facilities as well. All in all very good hostel!

Fantastic place in every way. Awesome beer and good company. Iv stayed in many a hostel in many a country and haven't found one quite like this one. Brewery/hostel… Genius! Lots of love gone into the place. Qwerty bits of furniture and artifacts everywhere. Never seen showers and toilets in the corridor before but just adds to no the uniqueness of the place. I very highly recommend.

Great owner, relaxed vibe and awesome pet Labrador make this my favourite hostel in Australia so far.

Bells Beach Backpackers has a great atmosphere! The place is super clean, organised and has all facilities for cooking. Good selection of books and a nice living room for entertainment. Sean was very friendly and Bella is such a lovely dog.

Bells Beach Backpacker is the best backpacker hostel I have ever stayed. It is clean, got super comfy bed and lounge, clean bathroom and toilet, model facilities in kitchen, living area and rooms. It has very reasonable price and wide range of different room options to choose from. The atmosphere created in the hostel is warm and family like, I really enjoyed my stay and sure anyone will feel the same.

I had a fantastic stay. Sean and doggy Bella are very welcoming. The kitchen/lounge facilities are great. The bed was REALLY comfy. The place was all very clean. The showers wouldn't mind a facelift, but I wasn't bothered in the slightest. Would definitely recommend to others!

Relaxing stay, well appointed with a fantastic kitchen, clean as a pin, and easy to sleep after 10PM. Like a happy family home. Sean is a gentleman, Bella the dog is a sweet-heart. A class act.

We came to bells beach backpackers couple of weeks ago our fist stop for our Great Ocean Road trip. The host was rather welcoming and his dog was lovely which made the stay a little more homey. But I will add that for a YOUTH backpacker hostels Iv never stayed in one with soo many old people (40 up) there was no younger people as me and my partner are in our early 20s, which made me think was it more like a B and B than a hostle. Our night stay was horrible it was freezing we had one old man preying at 2am and another old man snoring and sniffing and coughing all night (even ear plugs couldn't block out the noise) so we got no sleep what's so ever. The bathrooms were freezing no heating what so ever, no one like sitting on a iceburge toilet seat. Though the place was very clean and tidy and kitchen area was also. Not great for parking as had to park right on the road as people didn't know how to park a car on the hostle grounds. Would I stay again hmmm maybe in the summer time but not for winter. Price is reasonably for a night or two.

Showers disconnected from room and requires outdoor walk into another building; large shared covered outdoor seating with fridge, grill, sink and utensils/plates; very friendly owner; has dog; bunk bed style rooms with small lockers in the room — need to bring your own lock if you want it secured.

Cost a bit more than other places but needs we comfy and beds pre-made. Good quality showers. Friendly staff. Would recommend if you're in the area and need basic accommodation.

Friendly staff provided good information over the phone. Clean. Amazing kitchen. Like amazing chef's gas range stove. Nice people. Good location. Nice, quiet room. I stayed in the four person room with one other person.

I spent 3 months in Australia, and this was hands down the best hostel I stayed at, and also one of my favourite parts of my travels. It has a real family feel, Shaun and Bella are the best hosts, although don't bring any of your favourite socks because Bella will play with them. The town itself is super chilled and has some great surf spots. They've also got some great restaurants (I recommend bottle of milk burger joint). But I can't express just how fantastic this hostel is, and it is down to the hard work of Shaun and co-manager Bella. I can't wait to come back!

Why do I love this place? It has everything you could ever want! It's in a great location in the town of Torquay, at this start of the great ocean road, close to the beach, cafes and restaurants, the pub and surf shops. The hostel is clean and well run, warm and friendly. It's super chilled and feels like a friendly surfers hang out. It has a great kitchen area, included Wi-Fi and super clean bathrooms. Best of all are your hosts Shaun (smiles) and his beautiful dog Bella. Do you self a favour; check In and chill out. Shaun it was great to see you again, thanks soooo much for having us! I had such a fantastic time staying here! Sean, the owner, keeps the hostel absolutely spotless and extremely homey. The beds were super comfy and the rooms spacious. Free Wi-Fi in all the rooms! Close to the beach, next door to a few cafes, and down the street from the surfing shopping center. The best part? Sean's adorable and well-trained Labrador retriever, Bella, who roams around the hostel and happily greets all of the guests. Highly recommend! ❤️

Another great place to stay. Heater in your room, could do with a fan. Bit stuffy in bedrooms. Windows were locked. But a very convenient location next to two caltex service stations and pizza delivery local. A great sitting area with comfortable couches, lcd 40" tv. Joint kitchen with everything you need. Host was very good and friendly. More than happy to accommodate your needs if asked. I didn't ask about above minor faults.

Probably the cleanest hostel I've stayed in. Pretty relaxed vibe, good facilities and comfortable beds.

We stayed there only one night but it's a really nice place. Everything is clean and comfortable. The staff is nice and you can feel good there.

This backpacker is clean and comfy. We booked a double room, linen and towels were provided and even the heater was switch on before our arrival … The owner is very kind, he gave us a lot of advices for our trip on the great ocean road! I recommend!

Modern and clean hostel. Good for vanpackers, too. First of all, I was there in late autumn so things might change in summer with more people living there. The hostel is nicely situated and easy to find/reach because there is a bus stop right next to it. There are loads of surfshops and small cafes around and it's only a 5 minute walk to nearby supermarkets or 10 minutes to the beach. The rooms were very tidy and well equipped (heater, small lockers — BYO lock) the beds were a bit noisy but nothing that I would worry about. Mattresses feel like new! The kitchen, also very modern, was quite small. It only had space for 5 pots/pans. They have quite a big oven though. The bathrooms are alright. 2 showers, 2 toilets. The bathroom was not heated, so it might be cold for some in the later evening. Shower temperature is difficult to adjust but at least they have hot water. You get free Wi-Fi codes (60min/200MB) for every night you paid. For some reason only 2 out of 7 worked. Other people had same issues. Experienced on Windows, Mac, Android. If you rely on stable internet, go to the library (3min by foot) they have free Wi-Fi there. They also have a nice TV lounge which is connected to the kitchen, so you might have troubles hearing the TV sometimes. There's a very good media player if you bring your own hard drive to watch some movies because the TV reception is very bad at times. Facilities: Washer ($3/30min), dryer ($1/20 min), free surfboard storage.
