My family of 6 (all adults) booked 3 rooms here. Unfortunately, while we were there, there was a stabbing right outside our rooms (stabbing was done by a permanent resident there and we saw that person get handcuffed and taken away). We requested a room change to move to another area of the complex but were denied saying there was no other availabilities for the type of room we had booked. The front desk staff was extremely unhelpful. I've never heard "there's nothing we can do about it" so many times. Apparently the front desk staff have zero authority to do any room changes or do anything for that matter. Everything had to go through the manager (sam) who was only on duty from 9-5pm. As we were in cairns on holiday, we had tours booked everyday and were not at the apartments from 9-5. He refused to call us before we left or after we got back due his being "off duty" and we were requested to "look for a pay phone to call him while we were on our tour. " (we did not have an australian mobile as we are from the states). We felt unsafe in our apartments (they could not tell us if the guest who did the stabbing was on the premises or not) and they refused to do anything about it or even take the time out to TALK TO US when we were upset. Sam finally agreed to speak to us over the phone the morning we checked out. And said there was nothing he could do anything except waive our Wi-Fi fees (which by the way, the Wi-Fi there REALLY STINKS. Only one person/device can use it at a time and it still constantly kicks you out and the service is really slow. We ended up trying to use Wi-Fi in public places every time we were out and about. It wasn't even worth it. ) I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to besides him (sam) and he said he was the highest person there. I've never dealt with such poor management. Though I understand they obviously did not expect this situation to happen, they dealt with it in the worst way possible by not addressing our needs and concerns. i asked about any extra security — "sorry there's nothing we can do about it" can we change rooms even if it means upgrading us to better rooms — "sorry there's nothing we can do about it" (we were eventually moved a day later but my family was all over the complex and still afraid to go between rooms) will you do anything for me due to my unhappiness — "sorry there's nothing more I can do except waive (the really useless) Wi-Fi fees" DO NOT STAY HERE other details to note: — I didn't like the windows in the room. It was basically a screen with shutters (no glass) so I felt like you could hear everything outside with no privacy — the toilet paper provided was the cheapest toilet paper i've ever used in my life — kitchen in the apartment was decent. Dishes, hot water kettle, two burner stove, microwave — outside grill area was nice. We walked to the coles grocery store at the nearby mall and picked up groceries and made dinner outside (the night of the stabbing incident, after that we wanted to do nothing outside in the evening) — did not use pool or gym area because I was afraid to be outside at night. — dd not like the layout of the complex. No elevators. The rooms are located in blocks between ground, 1st, and 2nd floors. But to get to different rooms in the same block, we had to go down stairs and then back up another stair well. It was really inconvenient trying to go between 3 rooms.
