Unfortunately this wasn’t the best place to stay. Lots of little things could have really improved our stay. There were 3 of us that were booked in the room but we only received towels etc for 2. Even after calling reception for more towels we received none. I had my very elderly grandparents with me and didn’t realise there wasn’t a lift in the hotel. They had to scale 3 flights of stairs to go to the restaurant and 4flights to the car park. This was possibly my fault for overlooking this; but I think it’s time to move with the times and install a lift. In the restaurant the food was well priced; however, the food wasn’t even as good as I would serve at home. The steak was tough and over cooked the first night, the eggs Benedict were just slapped onto the plate and the lamb shank on a bed of mash was served in a bowl with about 3 cups of gravy so it was like having gravy soup. I actually had to pick the food out if the bowl and transfer them to a plate. The chef would not leave us alone. Every single meal he felt it necessary to come out of the kitchen and chat to us. We would be having a private conversation at our table and he would just come over and but in. The first time we were polite but then it kept happening. You also had to pay for self serve tea and coffee that was exactly the same as what you got in your room — the really cheap coffee sachets. I was dying for an espresso at brekky and a herbal tea at dinner but every time I asked I was just directed to the self serve counter which cost $3. After the second time I’d didn’t bother getting anything because I thought I can drink the same stuff in my room for no extra cost. The staff in the restaurant need a little extra training — our desert was served to our table before our dinner plates were cleared. I actually had to say “excuse me, would you be able to take our dinner plates away”. Overall the room was clean and the housecleaning staff were very good at their job. If you need somewhere cheap and clean to spend the night then this place would be ok. I wouldn’t pay much over $80 here. For $90 you can get much better service 120m down the road at the Maddison Hotel. I am sorry for the poor review but some things really need to change in this hotel and many could change for little to no cost.
