Such a great hotel in a super fun area and lots of great places to eat and drink. Great rooftop lap pool and lounge area. Perfect for our staycation. Super comfortable beds and well appointed rooms. Perfect for couples or families (provided not little, little kids). We love coming here! We will be back again soon!

Edison, rooftop bar supervisor is delightful and knows how to take care of guests. Great room service and the rooftop pool is fab with great tunes and cocktails…

For the price would be nice to order a hot chocolate as it’s not provided nor bar fridge snacks and at 10pm no room service so if your hungry, tuff!
Nice rooms, hipster. Nordic meets industrial but beds way to soft, dreading my back in the morning. Great helpful reception staff, Jordan in particular.

Had an absolutely fabulous stay. The rooms were wonderful. I have a brain injury and they were more than accommodating for my needs. Wonderful staff and magnificent setting. I certainly will return.

Simply the best hotel in Sydney.

Wonderful hotel — the attention to details is great — only recommendation is you make the guests aware the pool is more of a lap pool and not the best availability for usage due to the rooftop bar being open to everyone off the street so swimming in it whilst everyone is dressed up drinking their cocktails etc is a bit off putting — in fact so off putting we saw a guest come up ready for a swim saw all the people there and picked up their stuff and left — there needs to be specifically private usage for guests of hotel to use the rooftop for
Lounging round the pool like the marketing photo shows — otherwise couldn’t fault it.

Terrible customer service. Have sent seven emails to the general manager enquiring and disputing a charge to my credit card. Still have not received a reply or any acknowledgement from anyone at the hotel on this matter.

Drinking in the downstairs bar feels a little like stepping back in time to the 50s but in a good way.
The staff are young quick on their feet and engaging.
We headed to the rooftop and were delighted to find a modern fitout with delightful views of the older end of Sydney town.
Once again the staff were on point friendly and efficient and in my opinion being an old Hospo veteran the best part of a drinking or dining experience is how you are treated by the staff.
I recommend for those of you who want to venture across the bridge.

Stopped of for a nightcap up on the roof good music not to crowded and very comfortable sofas heaters on a few blankets what a great find going back YES.

We really enjoyed staying at the Old Clare Hotel. Room was very comfortable — especially the bed — and the location was perfect. We had previously only stayed in Sydney’s CBD but we found Chippendale far more interesting and the hotel’s proximity to Central Station made getting to the CBD, harbour and back out to the airport effortless. We ate at A1 Canteen and Barzaari while at the hotel and both restaurants were amazing. Great food and great service. Looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed to attend Muse Pop Up dinner. We had drinks in the pool bar, breakfast in A1, accessible room was fantastic, toiletries so good, Muse dinner exceptional! We will be back, it was awesome.

Definitely NOT five star service, no tooth brushes, tooth paste, pool bar not staffed during supposed staffed hours, towels not changed, bags not offered to be taken, not shown to our room and charged $50 a day for parking which we were not informed about until we check out! Oh and no cover on doona. After making the hotel aware of the problems no compensation was made and it took three phone calls to speak to a manager, such an expensive and underwhelming stay.

One of my favourite places to stay in Sydney. Always so well looked after by the staff and always with personal touches.

Good place to sit and have a few cocktails. Rooms are nice. Beds are comfy. Pool on the rooftop for the summer a treat.

Loved the hotel. Great mix of modern design and confort in old architecture building. Staff is very professional and nice. I love the area + great restaurants all around. I would really recommend that hotel when visiting Sydney rather than big international brands.

It's really a great blend far old architecture in modern design. The room are quite spacious for a family of 3. Our kid runs around up and down the loft. The staff was great too with advice of different eating places around the hotel. We will definitely come back!

Stunning hotel, terrible customer service!
They charge $50 for valet parking, don’t tell you until you leave! Wouldn’t be a big deal except for the fact the driver stopped our car in a clear no stopping area while another car was getting booked by a ranger for the same offence, almost causing us to get a fine! On top of that our car had a fresh scratch, concrete powder and all, which we noticed as soon as we approached our car! By the time we found a park and went to discuss the matter, they gave us an incident report outlining this scratch and was dated and timed back to yesterday. What I find doubtful is this is the only scratch they wrote on the incident report however our car has other noticeable scratches on it (which were existing)
The response we received was very dismissing. It was a disappointing end to our stay to say the least and still coping a $50 charge for their valet services.
Be wary handing your cars over. Plus side it was a beautiful room with a comfortable bed and awesome bath!

The old Clare is a great place to meet up before heading out onto Kensington Street for dinner. I love how they renovated the interior. It is quite quirky.

My stay at The Old Clare hotel was quite above my expectations and one of the key advantages to staying at a boutique establishment. The check in process was smooth and the staff were knowledgeable in the history of the building. The restaurant was very good and accommodating as they let me continue working on my PC at one of the tables past their lunch time closing. Room was well equipped, comfy and very clean. Would like to try the pool and the gym on my next visit.

We stayed in the Connell room. It was beautiful, really cool, and lovely and clean. The bed was also massive and so comfy. Staff were friendly and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again.

My favourite hotel in Sydney. Beautiful rooms and a great rooftop pool. Wonderful collection of old chairs throughout. The staff there are excellent too. Excellent restaurants in the general area. Highly recommended.

5 stars. Great amenities, excellent location, second-to-none service. Staying here with a young family was just easy.

Great on a weeknight, however on a Saturday during happy hour it was less than ideal. One bartender trying to serve 10 + people waiting and you could see he was desperate to be anywhere else. Such a shame — it would be great if there were more staff on to support this guy during peak hours.

The Old Clare Hotel is the most memorable hotel that I have stayed in. It is eccentric in its decor, yet remains tasteful and aesthetically pleasing to the eye with no creature comforts or hotel "staples" being sacrificed to achieve this. It is impeccable in every way, down to the small (to some) things such as a Bose Sound System that is compatible with all devices. No attention to detail has been spared in the Chippendale Loft.

The Old Clare is a wonderful venue to meet friends. Relaxed, well priced, and with friendly staff, it has the vibe of a local hotel, in the heart of the city. The food menu is also incredibly satisfying.

Good venue, but need to train their staff better. Didn’t get service for 15 mins with several other people coming into the bar and getting served before me. Disappointed.

Newly renovated hotel in the heart of Sydney. Spice alley is around the corner for dozens of food vendor stalls. Rooms are chic with great soaps and shampoos. Check out the bar for a night cap if you get in late.

Stayed in the Chippendale Loft… Absolutely exquisite bathroom, by far the best of any hotel I've stayed at (Park Hyatt included). The "Hipsterish" decor is a unique touch and overall gave the room a very familiar/homely vibe. Only downfalls were lack of pillow selection and noise, even with the air con off, ducting for the rest of the hotel was quite loud all night. Would definitely stay again.

I went to the Old Clare for drinks with a friend and put my card behind the bar to start a tab. After two glasses of wine each I asked to settle the bill only to discover that not only was my credit card nowhere to be seen, but their own staff member had given it to a guest of the hotel who proceeded to rack up a bill close to $500. Not only this…Old Clare staff allowed this guest to pay in $99 increments to enable paywave payments and to avoid having to use a pin. Upon discovering this, the staff tried to usher me out of the establishment without any rectification. I showed them my online statement and demanded a refund for the expenses that had been charged to my card so far. I received this however more payments showed up the next day that I have never been reimbursed for. I spoke to managers Timo and Ernesto and asked for no more than a written letter of apology and the reimbursement of my remaining funds however management refuse to return calls, messages or emails let alone the money they stole. This establishment breaches basic privacy, security and data rights including their own privacy policy and is fraudulent in their way of conducting business.

In Chippendales, I stayed at a reignited hotel under the Design Hotels group, the Old Clare Hotel. It’s right opposite the main UTS campus and alongside a hip Kensington Street where this year’s Sydney Fringe Festival Ignite opening was held. I happened to stay here right on the opening weekend so it’s pretty awesome. Coincidentally, the hotel belongs to the Unlisted Collection which has a range of hotels and restaurants in Singapore (such as The Warehouse Hotel and Po which I posted previously). I have worked with the Singapore team previously for their restaurants and I certainly loved how they’ve always captured the vibe of the heritage of the buildings, in this instance, the Clare Hotel pub and the Carlton & United Breweries Administration Building and turn it into a vibrant new residence for temporary citizens like me.

First impressions were mixed. While the location is perfect; right in the middle of the city, in a cool revamped area with cafes, bars and restaurants, and the hotel itself is beautifully renovated without fault, the service was poor and the staff so cold it was almost bordering on rude. I didn't feel welcome checking in at all. The thing is, the room was so perfect and the rooftop pool so fantastic that nothing was bothering me at that point even the clear attitude of everyone working there. Until I checked out that is… At check out I was asked not if I enjoyed my stay but did I take anything from the minibar. No, I didn't. That's it right? A day later I get a charge on my card and an invoice emailed to me for minibar items I did not have. I called the hotel, explained that this charge is an error as I didn't take anything from the minibar. No apology; I was just told the amount would be reimbursed. Two days later, nothing… I call back. I speak to a different person who I explain the whole story to again. This person also doesn't apologise or put me through to a manger or explain why after I called two days ago my refund hasn't been processed. She just says she will process it now and I will be refunded. Eventually, I am refunded, but not the correct amount as the GST charged wasn't refunded. I gave up as I didn't want to deal with the rude service again or to waste my breath. As much as I loved the room and the location, I won't be staying here again.

Everywhere you turn, you'll find something — or someone — delightful! The only problem with this hotel is that you'll never want to leave to explore Sydney. The bed is exceedingly comfortable, the decor is charming and captivating. Floating in the rooftop pool, with the plant-draped walls of Central Park overlooking, is the perfect way to end a hectic day. And the staff! So helpful, accommodating, and kind, they already feel like old friends.

Staff gave my credit card to a stranger who racked up huge bill in their establishment. Still no resolve… over a month later they are avoiding my calls to resolve and I am strill out of pocket.

Very nice pub, toilets are a bit of a surprise though. They also have nice beers on tap, I remember they had Batch on tap there. They have a pool upstairs that is supposed to be open in summer.

Awesome boutique hotel in the middle of the city and next to the Kensington Street precinct. The historical fittings give it a real unique feel, great for a weekend staycation.

Nice high end hotel with very unique styling. I liked the two level loft room as I was able to prep up with colleagues on the lower floor without everyone sitting on my bed.

Fantastic place, a little out of the city but Central is less than 10 minutes walk. Good selection of restaurants and cafes nearby. The staff are great and will do what they can to help out. Rooms are a good size and well appointed.

Had the worst sleep on my life. The bed was so soft I had to sleep on the floor. AC was unstable, went to hot to freezing throughout the night. Looks nice from the outside. Wont be staying there again.

Stayed there for the weekend found the staff very welcoming the room was great loved the bathtub and the pool on the upper deck. If there is anything we could pick at is the mattress was a bit soft for our liking but all in all will definitely stay there again and recommend this place to friends who head up to Sydney for a weekend keep up the good work guys!

New hotel built inside the beautiful facade of an old building. They've done well to capture a lot of the original features of the building with exposed brick and beams where possible. The hotel itself has a great vibe, excellent design and fun to hang out in. The rooms are very spacious, bordering on cavernous. Lower floors exposed to some street noise but nothing awful. It's a very nice hotel indeed. Lower end of the five star range but still worthy of a high rating. Very much appreciate the multi use bathroom dispensers in the rooms. I personally hate the waste single serve shampoos, soaps etc create. Recommended!
