Atlanta Stadium, also known as Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, was a historical sports venue located in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. The stadium was built in 1965 and served as the home of the Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball team and the Atlanta Falcons National Football League team for over 30 years.
The stadium had a seating capacity of over 50,000 and was known for its unique "bowl" design, with all seats facing towards the field. It was also one of the first stadiums to have a retractable roof, which was added in 1991.
Throughout its history, Atlanta Stadium hosted numerous iconic sports moments, including Hank Aaron's record-breaking 715th home run in 1974 and the 1996 Summer Olympics, where it served as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies.
In addition to sports events, the stadium also hosted concerts by legendary artists such as The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Michael Jackson.
Despite its historical significance, Atlanta Stadium was demolished in 1997 to make way for the construction of the new Turner Field, which served as the Braves' home until 2016. Today, the site of the former stadium is a parking lot for the Georgia State University football stadium.
