Khiva, located in the Khorezm region of Uzbekistan, is a city steeped in history and culture. Known as an open-air museum, Khiva is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most well-preserved examples of a medieval Central Asian city. The city of Khiva is divided into two parts: the inner city, known as Itchan Kala, and the outer city, Dishan Kala. Itchan Kala is the historic center and is surrounded by massive walls, creating a fortress-like appearance. Within these walls, visitors can explore a labyrinth of narrow streets, ancient mosques, madrasas (Islamic schools), mausoleums, and palaces.
