Rather tired entrance to this big hotel in the centre of Harrogate. Lift very shabby, but one was being refurbished, and was feeling slightly apprehensive about the room, but the rooms are large, very clean and really comfortable beds. Buffet style breakfast was a bit tired and lukewarm, but we did go at the last minute, so I'd recommend going at 8am when things will be freshly cooked. They did gluten-free toast and staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast is on the 5th floor so the views over the town are wonderful.

Booked for three nights. Wouldn’t even stay for one night. When booking the description and pictures are very deceiving. Bedroom had no ligh just wires hanging, the carpets and walls were black. Bathroom smelt damp and dirty. Mattress didn’t fit the bed. Hallways smelt like my local tip. However Jess from reception was fantastic, she was helpful and offered us a full refund. She was also very helpful when checking in about parking and what is close by.

It's absolutely fine for the money. Don't go expecting too much and you'll be happy for a night or two. The breakfast is good and there are lovely views from the breakfast room at the top of the hotel.

Grand to look at outside. Very nice in the reception area. Lovely looking restaurant even though we didn't eat there. Friendly helpful staff nothing was too much trouble. The reason for only 4 stars were the rooms. Very dated and a few items were broken. But clean enough.the hall way to the rooms are dark and dingy, carpets a little old. Nailed down in areas.main lift was broken and horrendous smells coming from the one working lift. The breakfast room was on the top floor super breakfast.

The customer service at reception was brilliant, the staff I seen were cheerful and very welcoming. Check-in was effortless and I walked to my room. I was very impressed with the size of the room and bed — the hotel is very nice inside however the only drawback I'd say was the room looked a little worn, as did the corridor (with creaky and uneven floorboards) — something I presume is down to the age of the building and not something that would put me off. I was unable to shut the window in my room; however being the height of summer it didn't matter too much, just I'd have rather had less traffic noise from outside. I didn't call reception about this as I was too tired. I couldn't fault anything more with my stay — for what I paid for it, it was extremely decent and I will definitely be staying again next time I'm in Harrogate. Thank you!

As said by others a bit dated, but clean linen and towels to die for, although the shower power was p**s poor. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. It is in the process 0f an update which will be a much needed bonus. Along with fair room rates, we paid €39 for an overnight stay.

We booked the Yorkshire Hotel for a rare weekend away without our children. Sadly upon arrival our hearts immediately sank when we entered the very shabby lift to take us to our floor. On leaving the lift it became clear that the hotel needed a lot of work. The carpets were badly stained and the corridors dark and dingy. Our room was incredibly disappointing, very dated and in need of a major upgrade. Although the hotel was pretty awful the manager and receptionist were fantastic and very understanding when we said we would like a refund and did not want to stay the next two nights. The hotel is apparently in the process of being updated which would be great as it is a beautiful building, I just hope they keep the current staff, after a refurb we would consider it for our next stay in Harrogate.

This place could be the shining star of the block. Such a great location here in HG1. The issue is that the rooms are so old and in desparate need of a remodel. Carpets and fixtures are old and show wear. There is no air-conditioning, so the warmer days really make the rooms feel stuffy. Once the hotel gets a good makeover, it could easily earn 5 stars.

We only stayed 2 nights here but thought it great value for very reasonable rates. It's not 5* but hey, who needs that anyway. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Rooms clean with all you may need. Located in the heart of Harrogate within a few minutes walk of most anything you will need. We visited family so didnt use the dining area but it looks very pleasant. Bar service is good. Great view from downstairs balcony whilst supping a pint. Very good place to stay if visiting Yorkshire Dales. Highly recommended and will most definitely choose to stay on our next visit to this wonderful scenic area.

Squalid. Uncovered milk carried in lift by a waiter from restaurant to breakfast room and spilled on floor. Very unhygienic and therefore we decided we could not eat there. We were told after check out that we could not leave the car for two hours more even though we would have paid. This was very annoying and very inconvenient and there were signs outside in the car park stating hourly parking rates. Receptionist however could not have cared less. Dirt and mould in room and bathroom was disgusting. But good location and if you didn't have to pay for parking it would have been cheap. However compared to next weekend we really paid over the odds. Other hotels are available!

We were met by very welcoming staff during our stay. The lady on Reception was very friendly and informative. The team in Scran Bar & Restaurant have such a jovial manner and energy about them. The downstairs public areas have been refurbished to a great standard and very modern. But the bedrooms do need to catch-up quickly. We would be happy to visit again as the hotel is very well positioned. Thank-you for an enjoyable stay.

Had a great weekend break here, good room and bed and excellent food for dinner and breakfast. Although the hotel is undergoing refurbishment at the moment, it did not interfere with our stay, hope to go back when they have finished the refurbishment to see how it is then. Only downside is having to pay £12 a day to park outside the hotel

Staying in the Yorkshire hotel, can cope with the size and poor quality of the rooms. What is the problem is the continual thudding music coming from the bar next door, upon making a complaint to reception and asking if they knew at what time it should stop I was given a non committal "Maybe about 12. 00pm" hopefully. I would have thought that the hotel would have a 'duty of care' to ensure that a local establishment would not be able to disturb their guests late into the night. Also I would have expected that as I am sure this is a regular occurrence that the hotel should make potential customers aware of this particular annoyance on their website allowing potential customers to choose if they are prepared to put up with this intrusion. I personally would advise others to find alternative accommodation in Harrogate. Appalling

We had a lovely stay at the hotel and a lovely weekend in Harrogate. Positives: Central location Friendly/professional staff Good car parking facilities Food in the restaurant was fantastic Spacious rooms Nice bathrooms Very clean Value for money Negatives Rooms were quite dated, they are in need of some decorating and finishing touches and possibly some lighter furniture as it made the rooms appear dark

I'll start with the positives: good central location for Harrogate Town centre, friendly staff, and there was a bed in the room. Unfortunately that's where it ends. The bed was lumpy and squeezed into the small room — the only way to get to the kettle in the room was to climb over the bed. Blackout curtains were fitted but no way to get some privacy while still allowing some natural light in, except for the condensation due to the lack of ventilation in the room. Couldn't even open the window 1mm, presumably to stop guests from attempting suicide after the realisation that The Yorkshire Hotel expect them to shower next to the shower curtain made of mould that has kindly been provided. This is all without mentioning the loose wires on the towel radiator which, according to the sticker on it, supposedly passed an electrical safety test… Three years ago. The controls of said radiator are no longer attatched so there is no way stop it from beating out enough heat to melt the polar ice caps every hour for the duration of your stay. The amenities listed on Google are NOT correct. Parking at the hotel is not free. There is an overnight charge of £12 for visitors or £15 for non-visitors. This is Google's error, not the hotel's so has not affected my rating.

Very disappointing. Will not stay here again. Having booked the night before for a price that included breakfast and dinner for a cheap price I received a phone call to say there was a glitch with the system so dinner and breakfast would not be included but we could pay the extra which we decided against. We arrived at the hotel to be told our room wasn't ready as there was a problem with the toilet so if we could wait in the bar till it was ready. We were not offered a drink despite our wait. We returned to reception after about half an hour to be told we had been upgraded to another room. The room itself is in need of a bit of an upgrade and was cold. To cap it all off they even tried to charge us for a newspaper we didn't want the next morning

Just arrived, not impressed. No parking outside at all so had to park 10 minutes away. Room was horrible. Old fashioned, curtains have a thousand creases in them, bathroom was in poor state with cracked floor tiles and missing grout. Bath was dirty. The decor is horrible furniture was old and tired and worn out. Not impressed, apparently the last room available so cannot change, also I can hear every noise in rooms next door and in street, walls are thin. Will see how the night goes…

Took my dear wife here, for an important birthday. 4 nights half board. Had a lovely front facing room with panoramic views of Harrogate. Evening dinner was a choice of 6, I believe, and that was with a starter and dessert! The hotel could do with a little sprucing up, but in no way should it deter you from booking. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were the best for me. A buffet affair, with freshly cooked food every morning. All in All, a great few days break in a county we love.

This place is in desparate need of a facelift. The journey to our room on the 3rd floor was interesting. Everything looks tired and dated including the room we stayed in. Holes in carpets, smells from the bathroom were foul, sticky bathroom floor. Would have given 1 star but the bed was actually very comfortable. I feel the bar is trying to be trendy but maybe stuck in the 90's. This is not worth the £100 a night price I paid (and that was discounted). Tonnes of potential, great looking building from the outside just needs an extensive revamp inside.

Lovely hotel. In the process of being upgraded but is lovely clean and comfortable. The bedrooms are comfortable with lovely soft towels and nice toiletries. Tea and coffee provided with a proper mug not the usual small teacup. Staff are friendly and helpful. Situated at the beginning of the town with Bettys tearoom across the road. Breakfast was really good and well worth the money. The brasserie and bar also very good with a good range of quality food and drinks. Will definitely stay here again.

The location is great but that's like congratulating someone on being born beautiful. The staff are very friendly overall, apart from the genetically modified Eric Pickles lookalike who seems to hang around reception and occasionally behind it. The atmosphere in the hotel is similar to the bar in The Shining. The worst part is the cleanliness, this is a very poorly maintained hotel. We had a "signature" room which is supposed to be the best the hotel offers. I think it must have been signed by Master Splinter because this room was a sewer. I've stayed in a few places in Harrogate and would recommend The Lawerence over this for price and quality.

I'm reviewing the hotel as a wedding venue. The rooftop lounge area is lovely. The views are incredible, looking across Harrogate, and the way it's divided up means you have a room to party and the bar area to chat which is ideal. The staff were all great, lucy especially, and so accommodating. They helped make our day perfect. There is some updating that needs doing, but once we put our decorations in and the lights it looked fab. Keep the staff and excellent attitude and give it a bit of a revamp and this place would be incredible.

Terrible hotel, tatty, dirty, mouldy and in desperate need of repair. Noisey, squeeky floors and cold rooms. I know the building is old but that's no excuse for poor and botched maintenance. My wife booked us a room here on my 40th birthday. She booked it in january for a night in august the 3rd. We was disapointed that they put us on the top floor over looking the rear off the building after we asked for a harrogate view. Our mattress in in the room was as old as the building its self and we both had the worst nights sleep ever and could not wait to get home. And since my wife is 8 months pregnant this was not on acceptable when we cheacked out we told the manager we was not happy but was brushed off with excuses that they no the mattresses were to be changed. The reason for our stay was we have a familey wedding coming up in harrogate and was looking at the yorkshire hotel for accommodation.

Having very recently held our wedding ceremony and reception at The Yorkshire, I can only offer positive feedback. From the day we booked our wedding, the events manager, Emma simply couldn't do enough to help make our day as personal and special as humanly possible. The function managers worked tirelessly, the bar staff were friendly and accommodating of our requests — even getting some milk for our children's bedtime drinks without question. The food — breakfast and wedding food was wonderful. Our guests were all highly impressed with the quality and commented favourably. We had the most amazing day and our room was superb. It was very convenient for guests travelling by private or public transport. Nearby were great locations for photographs. Yes, in places the decor needs updating. It's a very old building and comes with all the idiosyncrasies one associates with very old buildings. The bed was comfy, everything was clean and there were 2 LCD tvs in the suite. We didn't expect 5 star and we didn't expect to be treated like royalty — though we were! However, we went in with a friendly, open attitude and were greeted with the same. Thank you to all the staff who contributed. Our wedding day will be remembered for all the right reasons by everybody there and you all helped to make it so. Joe and Gill Glover.
