Stayed at The Priory Yesterday 20th May what a lovely Hotel, breakfast was spot on, Rooms where quality with lovely furnishings, did not have chance to sample the restaurant after all my friends and family recommend it as was only a flying Visit, but will stay again and sample thank you.

Always a pleasurable experience with excellent staff, tasty well prepared food, and beautiful surroundings. 5 stars 🌟

Always consistent there. Choices and quality top service too. Been there many many times, possibly the best restaurant for the whole area.

The food is Absolutely Amazing, everything we tasted melted in other mouths, especially the fresh uncooked oysters, we had eight! Yes eight they were AWESOME! Really good food and service take exception to the service charge think that should be down to the person paying the bill weather they leave a tip or not personally always leave a good and fair tip dont like being told that the service charge is down to covid load of b — — — ks.

We regularly eat at the Priory. The quality of the food is consistently high and represents real value for money. Service is very friendly and very professional. Lovely ambience both internally and externally. Cat recommended it enough.

Just had a delicious lunch. The pouring rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of the staff — the welcome was as warm as it always is. Delicious food, scrumptious wine. It was great to be back at our favourite place 😍

We love The Priory and we always stay when we visit family. Gorgeous place, cosy rooms and stunning food. A real gem in a beautiful little village. We would highly recommend it to anyone and will definitely be back again this year.

Fantastic friendly service 10 meals non pre ordered all came out on time together and were piping hot great music entertainment once again you cannot fault this venue. Table for ten next new years eve please Dave.

Been going to the priory for years. Always had fabulous food. However tonight the meal was not the best. 5 of us ate and couldn’t really say any of the meals were good. One steak was asked to be cooked medium, it was actually still moo-big on the plate, freezing cold. It was taken back and then brought back the same. Did tell our waitress the second time who told her manager. Nothing was done about it and still charged. The rib-eye was very poor (if it was rub-eye. ) the food was not hot, Just warm. Paid the bill and left. Very poor experience tonight. On a good note the garlic bread was good.

We love the Priory Service is always spot on. Loveley gardens and pleasant dining room. Great ambience. The food wont knock your socks off but its always cooked to perfection and served in a timely manner. The set menu offers a great value for money dining option. Great choice of wines.

Lovely Hotel friendly staff. Dissapointed by Restaurant. Dinner did not live up to expectations. Breakfast finished very early if your on Holidays but was told its to suit Business clients but an extra hf an hour would be great. Overall really enjoyed our stay.

We took our friends there for lunch. We sat out in the garden. It is somewhat confusing and slightly off putting that you have to go in to see the board menu and then have to order it. It would be much easier if staff brought you menu and took your order at table. However food was very nice and fresh. However the special lunch time meal is limited to starter and main. Wouldnt it be nicer for customer to have the choice of either starter or pudding?. It still would be a 2 course meal! Overall very nice and staff were very friendly.

Our fifth consecutive year here as it's where we stay Friday & Saturday nights when attending the Speedway GP in Cardiff. Hence, cost of room on Saturday night keeps creeping up. Now £170.00 for 2019. Nonetheless, we've rebooked as we enjoy staying at the Priory so much. Very comfortable accommodation, excellent vast restaurant menu and the quality of food is always very good. It's a popular place used by people in the area for celebrations/party's etc. It does get very busy so advisable to book table in advance. Level of service and attention is always good and cooperative to fulfill your requirements.

A lovely hotel, the staff especially made my stay special! I arrived late after a very long day and the lady on reception could not have done anything more to make sure I was settled, fed and comfortable. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

Lovely clean beautiful hotel. Staff are very attentive. They couldn't do more for us. We have a 3 year old and all were brilliant with him. So reasonably priced too for the service and exterior. The land is beautiful and well kept. Rooms are clean and the restaurant was amazing. Fresh local food with lots of choice. Too much if any. Looking forward to going back.

An absolute fantastic stay. The room was superb, the staff couldn't do enough for us and the food was outstanding. Can't recommend The Priory enough. Looking forward to our next visit.

We arrived closed to 10 in the evening with reservations for a group 8, after having traveled across the UK all day. Our group was friendly, tired, and very hungry. While the food was good, a member of our party was never served her entree. The other members of our party had to share our food with her, because the waitstaff never returned to check on us after depositing our meals. Not once did anyone ask us if we were enjoying our meal, and they did not refresh our glasses of water, beer, or wine after taking our initial order. I have never posted a negative review about any establishment, but the service here was so horrible I felt it incumbent upon me to warn others. Although I've yet to eat anywhere else in town, any place has to be better than this establishment and their slovenly service.

The priory is a great place to meet for drinks in the bar or in good weather outside in the beautiful grounds. The restaurant is fabulous with excellent food. Well worth a visit for relaxing or a special occasion.

Wow! Loved every minute, room was amazing! Staff fantastic and the food was out of this world! We had a slight issue with our room but was happy to continue to stay in there, although staff couldn't do enough for us and moved us immediately, more than compensated for the minor issue. Loved every minute! Highly recommend! Thanks to everyone who made our stay so great!

Hotel is beautiful. We had a newly refurbished double room 15. Beautiful room and bathroom. Tea and coffee facilities and a hairdryer. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

A fantastic little find. Had a very lovely stay. Rooms, facilities, food & wine absolutely brilliant. The staff were most helpful and very welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. I would highly recommend this hotel. It is also excellent value for money and breakfast (included in the price of your stay) is exceptional. We will be back. Thank you all for a superb break.

Having had difficulty finding a venue at short notice to accommodate our Sunday lunch booking for 12 for special occasion, the whole team at the priory were so helpful, the service was excellent food was great and reasonably priced. Above all else the hotel is gorgeous am absolute hidden gem we are so pleased to fall upon having recently moved to the area. Will definitely be returning very soon.

Stayed here a few weeks ago and we loved it! We adored our room, we found out it was one of the several rooms which had been refurbished. It was one of the cheapest rooms too! Beautifully homely and cosy, spotless, it was great. And the bed was so comfy! Only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is that the food wasn't anything particularly special. However, we enjoyed our breakfasts very much. I had a full English, cooked to order. Very tasty and filling! The woman at the desk was lovely, and as if she was more than happy to talk and help. Can't wait to stay here again!

A beautiful hotel what occupies the same foundation and walls as a 12th century monastery. I spent two nights here on a business trip to Newport (south of Caerleon) and I found the charm and level of service at The Priory to be a refreshing change of pace from the chain hotels. One of the best features of staying here is the close proximity to the ancient Roman ruins nearby.

Went here for New Years Eve meal. Arrived a little late as we had lost our way. We were put on a table where I couldnt see my food properly due to the extremely low lighting. I asked to be moved to a particular table and was told that it was originally the one we had reserved but as we were late they put the other people on there even though they arrived after us. Our table had been reserved a few months ago. They then told us we had to be moved because there were people coming in for 9pm A table behind us became free so I asked if we could sit there… no we couldn't because that was reserved for people coming at 9pm… the result of this was I had to sit at another table where there was enough light to see my food… thank God because there were masses of big bones in my fish which I wouldnt have seen sitting at the dimly lit table we were originally at. The person I was with didn't want to move and carry his food over so the result was that I sat on my own to eat my food… great new year this turned out to be. To top it all the table behind us which they wouldn't let us sit on was still empty at 9.20pm. The Manager wasn't at all interested. They seemed to be more concerned about the next sitting and not the comfort of the 7pm sitting. No drinks were offered to us other than wine which we didn't want and as I was more concerned about getting a table with better lighting, off she went to check if this was possible and never returned.

Visited for a staff Christmas meal this Monday, the meal was great plus it has very friendly staff and a great environment. Great for even large groups and small.

Recently visited for an evening meal for 4. Had a drink in the modern, chic bar before which was very nice and reasonably priced. Food is all fresh and you choose what you want from the counter. I opted for prawns to start which were deliciously cooked in garlic butter, I then had swordfish steak for a main which was cooked to perfection, I finished on a creme Catalan which was enormous but somehow found space to polish it off. The waiter was friendly, service was excellent and the restaurant was modern and clean with a relaxed dining atmosphere. The portion sizes of the food are very generous and you certainly get your money's worth. I would highly recommend anyone to visit the priory for an evening meal and can't wait for my next visit.

We had a fabulous meal here. Relaxed and with great service. It is a beautiful building. All the food is on display and looks magnificent. I had a whole sea bream cooked really well.

A very trendy up market pub. Average selection of ales, spirits, soft drinks a little on the expensive side. The selection of meals is the clincher. Choose individual meals or from the fixed menu. The price is average for this type of service £17.95 for a fixed two course meal. The amount of choice for one of meals is very good. A counter from which you choose your dish (seafood, meat, and have it cooked to your taste. ). A nice place to go for a occasion, Not every week. Book in advance for a table and seating time.

Fantastic food with a novel and quite refreshing method of choosing what to eat. Had Oysters and then Skate and was very pleased with it. The evening we went we entertained 10 people in a professional setting. The venue was ideal, I would return for both professional or a relaxed evening.

Love this place only criticism I have is pillows were too hard and mattress too soft but that's personal preference otherwise polite staff clean room decent sized bath.

Lovely atmosphere and enjoyed the new bar room layout. Drinks selection has improved considerably in the last year.

All round odd place — no obvious reception — hidden around a corner which is fine, but a better welcome at the bar would be good (it wasn't bad — just seemed surprised to have to deal with customers). Once received at the reception, we were sent back to the bar to get a drink as they found a table for us in a half-empty restaurant. Ordering — rather than have table service, they seem to think it's a good idea to have an Asda style deli ordering system where you go up to a counter and order there before returning to sit at our table. Kind of ok but smells of laziness on the part of restaurant/front of house manager — why not just have normal table service? Food fine — had lamb (options were New potatoes, jacket potato or chips — again not conventional accompaniments), and staff all ok. Also took a fair bit of time to hunt someone down to pay. Can't say this is a 'bad' place at all, but the oddities make for an interesting experience.

Sat out on the patio on a summers afternoon with a cool drink and a fantastic meal with hotel staff only to happy to serve you makes a very very refreshing change. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. Keep up the high standards.

Have stayed a couple of times once in lodge and once in main house/hotel part. Both times was more than satisfactory for £65 night. Not eaten here but the fresh food on display looks very impressive compared to a lot of microwave meal hotels.

Beautiful grounds and fantastic atmosphere provides when I was there after a charity bike ride. Can't wait to go back.

Have had some very good experiences here in the past but on this visit I found the staff very miserable and unhelpful. The person serving behind the food counter was extremely ignorant, we were told a table was being prepared at 8pm and at 8-45pm I asked about the table and they didn't know we were waiting. We were told when ordering the food at the counter that they would bring the salad bowls over to us, but half hour later we are still sat without being served, when we asked about the bowls we were told they were at the counter. The bowls were actually behind the counter out of reach and when they were brought forward for us they had stains on some of them. The food in itself was good, again the service was shocking to be left using the same cutlery for the salad to the main course. We had to ask 3 times for drinks and the waitress who finally brought the drinks lacked basic manners. The restaurant itself was quiet so it wasn't as if they were rushed off their feet, we have been there when it busy and received much better service. It's not all bad, the welcome from the bar staff when we first entered was very good. All in all a bad experience, it seemed as if some of the staff had just been handed their notice and didn't have a care.

We visited just for drinks but the service was good. The outside patio area was perfect for a summer evening. Lovely setting. I felt it could have been a bit tidier. The tables outside didn't seem to be cleared regularly. Overall though, it was a nice visit and I would recommend it to others.

Sat in their beautiful gardens with the summers sun blazing was a splendid way to spend an afternoon. The food served was excellent, particularly the filet steak which was the best either of us have ever had! We will definitely be returning again… soon!

Been staying here for about three years the staff are wonderful, the food brilliant and everyone is always very welcoming.

Ordered medium rare fillet steak but cut in half and cooked as burgers. The waiter didn't seem bothered. Complained online but no response. Complained by telephone and offered a free bottle of wine on my next visit which is a shame as I won't be wasting £120 their again.

Unexpectedly reasonably priced, superbly yum and tasty food! One of the best lunches enjoyed on our trip through Wales. If not THE best food we had for the next two weeks! :) The service was great too *both thumbs up* Definitely coming back for lunch again!

I have been organising my mothers 80th birthday party which will be in May next year. My wife and I visited the Priory last week and were shown around the hotel by Miguel, the manager, and we have chosen to hold the celebration there. Not only is it a lovely location but also the restaurant, bar and hotel accommodation look excellent. The attention to detail, respect and courtesy shown to us by Miguel was second to none and we thank him for this. If all his staff are as committed to the welfare of the hotel guests as he is then our stay and my mother’s birthday party should be a joy and we look forward to it.

Ate here in the past. Very nice food fortunately as it's not particularly cheap. Would certainly recommend people try it.

Even thought I haven't stayed there, I have visited for coffee and drinks. In all a good experience as a "day visitor". There is a car park at the back, which can be handy as Caerleon has limited parking.

Friendly, efficient staff. Fantastic garden for summer nights. Superb food — best fillet steak ever. Bar is very busy and great fun on weekend nights. Bar and restaurant attracts visitors from wide local area. Have eaten here dozens of times. Huge wine cellar.
