Have been for lunch today and it was absolutely amazing. I had to start scallops with black pudding then half portion beef olives and have to say the scallops were cooked to perfection like butter in your mouth. Then main course was home made oatmeal stuffed beef olives and they were some good. Would highly recommend. Staff are just so lovely. 5 ☆

Gorgeous meal tonight, a beautiful menu for Christmas. The Turkey was moist and came with a selection of vegetables and roast tatties. The Pork parcel was tasty and tender. The staff were friendly and attentive, tables well spaced out. Well worth a visit.

Haven’t stayed at this hotel but have dined here several times & visited public bar. Food is very good, hotel is very clean & warm with lovely furnishings in communal areas. Staff are all very friendly & welcoming too. If the standard of service we received is maintained throughout the hotel then I believe your stay here would be very good.

We had a lovely meal at the Sands. Had a drink in the local bar & ordered food then went through to our table when it was ready.
After our lovely meal we had a couple of games of pool & threw a few darts! Both of which I hadn’t done for years! We will definitely be back.

Had lunch on Mother's Day, fixed price menu with decent choices. All food was really tasty, hot and just right amount. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere in the conservatory, Great value!

Been to Orkney over 10 times and always loved the sands hotel. Great for a meal out with amazing food.

Beautiful hotel with sea views. The rooms are not huge but spacious enough. The bathroom including a bathtub/shower. In the room also there are two hair dryers, Wi-Fi, tv, heating.
The staff were helpful and very friendly.

Fabulous hospitality and. The local fare was stunning. Was able to visit this lovely hotel as part of a Fred. Olsen itinerary. Magical.

Great food, great view right on the water, friendly staff, easy to find. There is a bar and a restaurant. Large car park behind the hotel. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much that we came back again for dinner the next night. Get the scallops with sticky toffee pudding for dessert! Portions are large and filling. They have a good selection of local products, including beer and gin.

Great food great staff. Ate here twice in a week best Orkney fudge cheesecake too as me and the boyfriend had a few all over the island and this was number 1!

I really don't know where the good reviews are coming from. Worst meal I have ever had in Orkney so far. Me and my partner ordered a beef burger and a steak pie. Basic things that every chef should know how to cook. Pie was not really a pie (stew in a bowl covered by pitta bread) and burger was disintegrated (! ) chunk of mince, served on a chewy, tough bun. Chips were cooked from frozen. No taste, no presentation. Very disappointing.

Lovely hotel with a bar and restaurant, just don't forget to book a table in the porch (for the view! ) and the dishes are great and decently priced.

The food served here is very good and at a reasonable price. They do half portions if you aren't feeling very hungry or have small kids. They also do some takeaway meals to. The staff are very friendly and helpful. On the first Friday of every month local musicians gather for an informal play-along.

3 adults stayed 3 nights in one of the duplex suites which was actually cheaper per night than two rooms in the previous hotel we stayed in (also in Orkney). Bear in mind that the suite had a large sitting room, bathroom with bath and separate shower, fully equipped kitchen (fridge, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster — no traditional oven though), and 2 bedrooms — 1 double, 1 twin. It was like having a self catering cottage with the convenience of a connected pub and restaurant. Highly recommend.

We've been here a few times as we have a holiday home in South Ronaldsay and is usually quite good. However on the last occasion it was not good. 15.2.16 my wife's birthday. The Haddock cooked in breadcrumbs was overcooked and looked like dark brown piece of wood. It tasted no different. The chips that came with it were soggy and just had an odd unpleasant taste about them. My Highland chicken was overcooked and dry. My sons burger was ok. Very disappointed. Could do better.
