Perfect place to stop over, on the way to the Highlands. Wonderful food and lovely, friendly host. A home from home. And the dogs had a wonderful stay, too! Thank you, Kirkconnel Hall!

Super location not far from the A74 (M) to Edinburgh/Glasgow and other areas, Wi-Fi in the hotel was intermittent on my laptop and or phone when away from the hotel lounge area in my room. Meals delicious and owners very hospitable.

Stayed at the camping & caravanning site here at the hall. For 3 nights. On our 6 weeks Scotland adventure. Nice n quiet. Birds singing. Peaceful. Peacock & pea hen pottering around. Chilled muchly. Lovely to meet owners. Thankyou for our stay. Suzanne, Paul, Pepsi, bongo & buddy x :)

I can’t recommend this place enough. From the moment I called on the morning of our arrival to check we could bring our dog and was greeted by the most cheerful welcoming voice I knew we would have a good stay! John is so helpful and friendly, nothing is too much. And the beauty and character of the house is tradition and so well maintained with beautiful rooms and features and antiques. There is ample parking, and the food is out of this world. I highly recommend the salmon. Absolutely loved our stay. We’ve felt so comfortable and welcome here. Really great for a stop off on the way to so many places within Scotland.

Loved our experience at this fantastic cozy site! The staff treated us like family. The fireplace in the lobby brought a warm-hearted welcome. The food at the restaurant was beautifully cooked and well presented! Would highly recommend this place to everyone!

Fantastic home cooked food, real ale and a tremendous selection of whisky. Highly recommended.

Pleasant place with no traffic noise disturbance despite the proximity. Dogs welcome. Lovely stained glass window!

A bit creepy at first but really gorgeous inside and really historical as the surgeon of Napoleon lived there.

Amazing hospitality — and a good full on breakfast!

This hotel bears no relation to the description placed on line. On arrival at the hotel, we were met buy three cars rotting in the car park. A plant pot on its side with a very dead plant tumbling out and random traffic cones scattered about. It felt completely abandoned, there was certainly no signs of life. As we entered the hotel we were bombarded by three dogs, one of which was barking incessantly. Not quite the welcome we expected. There was also an enormous no smoking sign at the entrance and yet the hotel smelt strongly of cigarette smoke combined with air freshener — not very nice. We were pointed in the direction of our room… The carpet was rucked and stained. The curtains were completely faded and torn. The devan bed was filthy. Very unpleasant. I advised the owner we couldn't stay and why. He seemed completely surprised! He also charged me for NOT STAYING. I feel completely cheated by the whole experience. It doesn't deserve even one star but I can't post the review without putting a star option!

Had a lovely nights stay here with our dog. Room was perfect, very comfortable. Steaming hot water for a lovely bath after a long walk. Ate at hotel and was pleasantly surprised at the quality, absolutely lovely. Very dog friendly quirky hotel, will definitely be back. Thanks for being perfect hosts.

Really nice hotel all staff are very polite and helpfull. Food is to a really good standard. I would highly recomend this hotel to friends and family and also considering having my wedding here.

Chalet was a great alternative to a hotel. Great for groups and families. Hotel is very interesting with a lovely family team looking after you.

If you like eccentric this is the hotel for you. John is very nice, the building is full of surprises and also comfortable!

Excellent hotel in a convenient location just off the motorway. Only stayed one night while I was working nearby but would have happily stayed for longer. On arrival you can't help but notice the quirky ornaments and decorations in the lounge, the greeting was friendly and the hotel has got a warm homely feel. The room was a good size and very clean.

Stayed here for a week with work, what a wonderful hotel, staff couldn't do enough for you made you feel very welcome, food was absolutely lovely (highly recommend the mixed grill) food wasn't served till the evening but because I was working unsociable hours they happily made me a meal at dinnertime. Rooms where clean and tidy and had everything in them you needed.
All in all a great stay, will Deffo atop again if I'm in the area.

This is a unique hotel with friendly staff. Although it is close to the highway, the noise was not an issue. Although the description reported Wi-Fi only in the lobby, I had a good signal in my bedroom – it was totally usable. I had made my arrangements late in the afternoon; although they had not been sent to the hotel, the proprietor took my word that I had indeed made arrangements and paid just a couple of hours prior and gave me a key. This is a good example of good customer service! His dogs came over to investigate me and get scratches. The room and bathroom were nice with a great Wi-Fi connection (was listed as only being in the lobby). Their suggestion of the local pub for dinner was right on!
