Stayed here for one night to break up a very long journey from Wick to the East Mids. The room was great and I honestly couldn’t believe the price included an excellent breakfast. Our bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well. I’d love to make this a regular stop but I fear that my declining mobility won’t allow me to navigate the deep front step for much longer. We had a lovely stay. Excellent value!

Lovely building warm welcome on arrival. Rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. Only one bad point our mattress was lumpy and uncomfortably.

Enjoyed our two night stay with friends whilst competing Tough Mudder. The place is quiet, comfortable and maintained to an immaculate standard. Breakfast, which is ordered the night before (for a dry up) was excellent. Approximately a ten minute walk or a short drive into town and just 2 minutes drive from the ring road. Free parking around the back of the building.

Room is good. 4th time we have stopped.

Stayed here last night. Booked a single room but was pleasantly surprised to find I was given a double. The room was one of the rooms external to the main building however, that suited me as it was nearer the car park. Hosts were welcoming. Bed was comfortable and shower was powerful and hot. Breakfast was very nice! No issues whatsoever and would definitely stay here again. 5*'s from me. Note for other motorcyclists — the car park is gravel with no hard standing.

We stayed here for one night on our way to dropping our car at Glasgow airport. We were met by a lovely young woman and all information about Rivendell was given and directions for how to walk in to Dumfries. Our room was delightful, clean and warm. We left early the following morning and the chef was only too happy to cook porridge for my friend even though we were early. Lovely place to stay enhanced by delightful staff.

One word to discribe it FANTASTIC stayed for one night the lady we booked with over the phone was so so lovely we had a room to the rear near car park the quality was superb all you needed clean is an undetstatement more immaculate bed comfy and no noise even though the location is on the main road. Its ideal for dumfries town centre and to top it all off a great choice for breakfast its well price and deservant of 5 stars!

I remember having a great time there. The rooms were in a medieval style, owners and employees very kind. Would recommend it anytime!

Beautiful house with lovely arts and crafts detailing. We had a huge room with a four poster bed and everything was to a high standard, including the tea and coffee tray and its selection of biscuits. The only niggle was that the mattress was very hard! Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious and there was a good selection of cereals and yoghurt too. The lady who served us and took payment was very helpful and took the time to tell us a bit about the house too.

Very nice staff, lovely converted house about 1 mile from the center. Nice big room. Good breakfast cooked to order. Overall an enjoyable experience.

My daughter and myself had a lovely night in the Rivendell. Room was perfect and very clean. The breakfast was excellent and the chef took the time to make sure everything was ok. Would highly recommend this hotel and I would stay here again.

I've stayed here often and wouldn't stay anywhere else in the area. It's a beautiful building, rooms are amazing, staff so friendly and brilliant at their jobs and it's fantastic value for money. Looking forward to the 27th January to return for a couple of nights. Oh and the chef makes delicious mushrooms with the fab breakfast.

I loved Rivendell, it was such a quirky building, with traditional decor that I thought gave the guest house real character. The staff were very polite and helpful, and the breakfast was great. Would definitely stay again!

Have just enjoyed a flying visit to Dumfries and were very taken with this B&B. Most comfortable, delicious breakfast and very helpful owner! Highly recommend.

We had a very enjoyable one night stay in room 2. Very quiet and in keeping with the rest of the guest house. Bed very comfortable and large — think it was 2 singles put together. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a selection of biscuits. All bedding and towels clean with a fresh "laundry" smell. Short 15 min walk to the centre of town along a well lit A road with a pavement. You are asked to park at the rear of the hotel which has ample space for the 10 rooms. Breakfast was good — selection of fruit, cereals, yogurts, porridge and a cooked breakfast with white or brown toast. I would have liked the option to choose black pudding, white pudding or haggis for the full Scottish breakfast experience — but I realise this is not to everyone's taste. A mirror in the bedroom would also have been useful if we had been staying longer — but the plug socket was near enough to still use hairdryer. We would recommend and would stay here again.

Fantastic value, comfortable bed, quiet and a great breakfast. I wouldn't go anywhere else in this area.

I stayed at Rivendell while on a weeks fishing trip. The twin room we had was spacious and warm which was good as the temp didnt get much above 2º during the day and — 3º at night. The breakfast was very nice and there is plenty of choice.
