The Maypole at Wellow Hotel

Had a lovely stay. Staff went above and beyond to help me with various things. Our room was cosy and very clean. The cooked breakfast was lovely overall we had a 10/10 stay. Great value for money too. I cannot think of one fault about it :)

The food was absolutely the staff are lovely to.

Fabulous lunch today. My husband and I enjoyed the Ribs and the three meat salad. Great portion sizes and food delicious. Excellent value for half price with the eat out to help out offer in October. Pub and restaurant immaculate and friendly staff with good service.

Possible the worst meal Iv ever had, poor team just kept saying sorry was in at 7:30 pm got food at 9:15 pm and sent it back was horrible would not recommend and would never go back!

Great food, fantastic service.

Lovely meal they did not cut any corners on quality even though it was half price. Everything was perfectly cooked and we were more than satisfied with everything. Definitely worth a try.

Brilliant bar with great staff and service. We have enjoyed a few drinks here. Also today the manager let me borrow a fitting for a beer barrel that I needed for a charity event, at short notice too. (same day). 100% recommended, really nice place and people. Thank you!

This is a low key hotel similar to travel lodge or premier inn — no wardrobes or safe, soap, tissues, toilet brush and bin fixed to walls. Tea/coffee facilities in room. Clean and comfortable bedroom. Good breakfast. Lacks atmosphere in restaurant and lots of plastic hanging plants from ceiling! Disagree with claim it’s a boutique hotel having stayed in many. Staff very nice, outside seating area good and large car park.

We stopped on the off chance, lovely lunch and a lovely atmosphere, thanks guys.

Another enjoyable experience at the Maypole, very busy in the restaurant and bar, but Daniels bar service was still second to none. Expertly served drinks, including a perfect Parisienne coffee. Nothing is ever too much for this young man, he is the
essence of the place. Always service with a smile, and one of the best cocktail makers for miles!

Stumbled on this lovely restaurant, the Maypole Inn, a couple of years ago and had the most wonderful meal there ever! The food was superb and the surroundings so very comfortable. I've eaten in some top drawer places in London and elsewhere over the years but this was as good as, if not better than, most of them! Highly recommended. (I also like that the kitchen is on view to the customers so one can watch the chef at work — lovely idea! )

Highly recommended modernised and upgraded coaching inn. The bar was well stocked and features locally brewed 'Prussian' lager and real ales. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable. The rooms are all named after past May Queens and have either King or Super king beds. Our room was comfortable and the en-suite bathroom well appointed. Breakfast was the usual cold fayre with supplements for cooked items. Plenty of parking. Disabled rooms are accessed directly from the car park in chalets.

Stayed here a couple of nights for my birthday with my partener. The staff were wonderful, approachable and friendly. Our room was modern, the main bedroom was cosy and the big bathroom had a lovely bath and amazing shower! The food was really good too, we ate there both nights, once in the restraunt and once in the little pub at the back. Couldn't fault the service. A very comfortable stay :)

Friendly staff, tasty beer and delicious food. What's not to like?

Food was wonderful, very attentive, helpful staff the only downside and reason for the rating of 4 stars was the drinks. One of our party had the Rose wine which quite frankly was like pink vinegar very disappointing to pay as she put it a premium price for a low quality wine which even with soda added was unpalatable.

Been here a couple of times with work. Food really nice. Staff even nicer. Little gem to find this place as I stay up here often and this will be my new place of choice.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The evening meal was also very good. Everyone (there were 12 of us) thought the food was well prepared and presented and service was nicely timed.

Second time I've stayed here recently on business. Rooms are clean and comfortable, food is good quality and well priced, and the staff are very customer focussed, especially in the kitchen, bar and front of house. I'll be back…

Lovely surroundings. Great food. Lovely staff. A lady with walking difficulties was helped by bar staff and the owner to her car with great care and dignity. My friend and I were offered an umbrella as it hammering down with rain. Lovely gesture. Was very impressed with the service.

They say 5 stars hotel for 3 stars price. I say 3 stars hotel with bizzare wall pictures and price like 5 stars. A shocking breakfast service.

It's a fantastic pub/restaurant the staff are good and the food is great, I've enjoyed visiting here several times and always had a good experience.

Wow my first 5 star review goes to this place. Second time we have been here and meals are cooked to perfection. If you are looking for that special place to eat this is it.

The room was cold and noisy The food I had pigeon which was salty sea bream was nice but the prawns were overcooked The hot pudding was warm Breakfast was unpleasant.

Way too expensive and Loud road noise all through the night might as well have slept on the street, no sound insulation whatsoever which is a pity as the hotel has such potential as a stopover rest spot. Staff was friendly and welcoming and room is well presented.

Small rooms, miniature wall mounted TV so not viewable unless you stand in front of its high position. No opening windows in sweltering rooms — need to leave door ajar for fresh air! Wi-Fi unusable, tried with 4 different devices on 2 separate Wi-Fi. Only warm fruit juice at breakfast. Guests noisy, drunk, inconsiderate. (Not the inn's fault, but obviously attracts the wrong element. ) Staff pleasant. Location good. I wouldn't recommend at these prices.

Very clean room. Excellent breakfast. Exceptionally helpful, polite staff. A great dog friendly hotel that actually like dogs. Plus no extra charge for them. Will definitely be recommending. The evening meal was delicious, even more so as the chef cooked it especially for us as we were late back after our Sunday out and didn't realise they finished serving early. Now how many people would do that?. So lovely man, who has only worked there a few weeks, and the lovely girl in reception. Thank you. X.

My husband and I, and teenage twins, have just returned from a 4-night stay at The Maypole and really enjoyed our stay. We travelled from afar and were delighted to find The Maypole. We cannot fault the hotel in any way. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well equipped. We stayed in the new part of the hotel and loved that we could park our car right outside our rooms! Perfect for managing luggage. We booked adjoining rooms being a family: a twin room (no. 12) and a double (no. 13). Room 13 also caters for any disabled guests with all the fixtures being geared for a disabled person's use. We would have preferred not to have had the disabled bathroom and sadly the double bed in Room 13 is very small but the management assured us this is the only room in the hotel with this smaller type of bed. I will write a fuller review on tripadvisor but here I want to praise the staff for their warm welcome, nothing was a problem, in fact, the staff went out of their way to help us. We met the owner on our first night who rectified a small problem immediately. The bar is cosy and relaxed and the locals very friendly and welcoming. I cannot comment on the restaurant food or service as we did not have the chance to eat in there but the quality of bar food was excellent. Piping hot and large portions. My husband enjoyed the real ale. There's a great selection of wines too. We are returning to the area this summer and we're looking forward to enjoying the Maypole again then.

Unfortunately we had not booked and it was Saturday night — consequently even though it was 6pm we had to eat in the bar. It was steak night and went for surf and turf — beautiful food — great portion size and well presented — only negative was we weren't offered any condiments with our meal. Would definitely return and will make a booking for the restaurant as it looked lovely — would recommend.

I visit this area regularly and this was my first stay at the Maypole. The room I stayed in was great. The staff were all friendly. I ate from the bar menu which was reasonably priced and the food was excellent. And the breakfast was good. Definitely a place worth staying at. I will certainly be returning.
