Food was really good, I had lasagna and it was delicious, friend had the breaded haddock and said that is was delicious, staff are very nice and attentive. Definitely will be back.

Thanks guys for a great meal. Haggis Bon Bon’s were amazing as was my pizza! Freshly made dough yum! My partner loved his philly steak hot dog and the bar service was great. Such a great personality from Stuart and what a laugh we had. Great effort from all the team on your re-opening weekend. Will be back.

We had our Valentine's at the Star and Garter and it was a perfect night. Delicious food, great portions and super lovely staff! we will definitely be back ☺!

Myself and my fiance went to the Star and Garter last night for our Valentine's meal. I just cant put into words how amazing our night was! We were greeted with friendly welcoming faces and a glass of bubbly. Our meals were amazing (3 courses for £19.95), including steaks and sea bass! Staff during the meal were attentive, informative and also very friendly. Thank you to all staff at the Star and Garter — you done yourselves proud. We will be back xxxxx.

Took 10 minutes to get served when we went in even though not busy then later three members of staff were huddled over till and when we asked for service they said “give us a few minutes we are doing something! ”

Amazing food, great atmosphere, staff very friendly. Iv been here a couple times and never been disappointed, the staff have always done their upmost to make sure we're were happy. Definitely recommend trying it out.

Ignore the previous 7 comments. The gents didnt stay in the star. Or eat. They did however get refused from the previous bars they were in. And needed to take their frustration out on somewhere. Great beer great service staff, open fire and amazin food.

The only thing worse than the awful food and dreadful service was the managers breath.

Recently had our wedding at this location. We had our ceremony and reception here and the staff were wonderful and I couldn’t fault a single thing. The new manager Stuart did everything he could to make sure everything went well I couldn’t have asked for more and I would recommend to anyone looking for a wedding venue. We spent our wedding night in one of the hotel rooms up stairs and the room was spotless! Breakfast was delicious too.

Something a little different from the normal pubs in town. Nice ambiance, great menu and top notch accommodation to boot! You won’t be disappointed!

Manager was very rude with no apology, slow service, food was terrible, not warm when food was sent back unapologetic, Not enough staff for large group booking couldn’t cope with the turnaround. Would not recommend!

Think this place has been taken over, outside tables not cleaned couldn’t sit as bird droppings on them. No gin glasses … no garnishes for drinks very disappointed.

Really nice comfortable rooms, lovely bar and good selection of drinks. Breakfast was excellent.

Nice place to stay especially for commuting to Edinburgh Glasgow etc train station situated at the back entrance. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. This is picture of linlithgow castle and the lock.

Lovely food, well priced. Friendly staff. Only issue we had were the toilets lacked hand towels and soap. Maybe more regular checks could sort that.

Four of us had a really good meal here on Saturday night. The food was very tasty and well presented. I believe the place is recently under new management and they deserve every success. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. One of our party is a wheelchair user which was not a problem as there is disabled access and plenty of room at the table. I will certainly return and recommend to others visiting Linlithgow.

Went here the other day for something to eat, the food was ok The reason for my review was the price of a diluted orange and water we had 3 of these and when we got our bill it was £8.40
£2.80 per drink
a pint of lager was £3.55 … I find that an absolute ripoff and for that reason we will not be going back.

Lovely place! Couldn't find fault with any aspect. We were attending a wedding nearby and they were very flexible at letting us check in early to get ready without any bother. The staff were all very friendly and the room was lovely — clean and well presented.
The breakfast didn't look appealing at first but all tasted great and it was obvious the meat was good quality and not just cheap stuff.
We would definitely go back if in the area again.

Lovely place! Tracy and Melissa were warm and welcoming. They got so excited when we told them that my great grandmother had worked at the Star and Garter back in the 1890's! Our room was quiet and beautiful with a comfortable king size bed (which is rare in the UK! ) and the bathroom was super nice. The location right next to the train station makes it easy to get to and there is car parking if needed. Would highly recommend the Star and Garter Hotel to travelers in Scotland!

We had lovely experience at the star and garter had a great dinner with our grandson food eat tasty portions weren’t huge but just enough and they also provide small portions for the kids staff were friendly and attentive.

I genuinely never leave bad reviews, but I was was very disappointed in this evenings experience. Booked a large party for a hen night dinner. We were told our table was upstairs, only to walk up and discover we were actually downstairs (not off to a great start) …
Bar staff were slow and appeared to be untrained (but polite, which was their only saving grace).
Food was mediocre at best. We waited ages for each course, the portions were small and the food wasn't that tasty. If we hadn't been so hungry after the long wait it would have been sent back. The steak pie was so dry, a few of us had to ask for extra gravy. By the time it came out though, everyone had finished eating!
At the end of our meal the fire alarm went off and we were evacuated, leaving puddings and drinks on the table. The only thing that bothered me about that part, was that we'd already paid the bill by then!

Was at a surprise Ruby wedding and the staff were very pleasant in the private room. Food was lovely. Great day thank you.

Stayed here one night with family. Heating didn’t work, all had to be in one bed. In the morning wanted a veg breakfast no option for this. Got what we could but were charged the same price. Asked to speak to the manager, told she was on holiday. Was told she would contact me. To be fair she did and I was told she would investigate. No contact since then guess it’s major investigation, bit like the Iraq inquiry. On the positive good location and staff did try to resolve what they could but leadership and problem handling very poor. Total cost including meal over £150. You’ll have to decide if it’s worth it. May have just been a bad day for them but, when your only staying a night and paying so much you expect at least the heating to work, perhaps a return call to apologise and an explanation.

Staff exceptionally pleasant and attentive. Room clean and bed very comfortable. Food was excellent. I even tried the Haggis Spring Rolls which were surprisingly delicious. This small hotel has only 5 Bedrooms with own Pub and Restaurant within walking distance from Rail Station. I have completed this review because I was impressed and will definitely be staying there in the future. Thanks to Michelle, welcoming member of hotel staff and Chef for offering and making packed lunch because I was leaving before breakfast. Thanks to Night Porter for bringing my packed lunch and also to Housekeeper for eagerly collecting my mobile phones from my room, to return when I forgot them! A great team.

Saturday 24th went with my daughter her husband and 2 children for lunch, her choice as it was her birthday and she had her wedding there. We went in at 2.20pm and left just on 4pm. Service was awful, I'd like to say they were very busy but it didn't stop them serving three other tables who came in after us. The food wasn't up to much either. I wish places would understand that a small child of 3 isn't going to sit that length of time to eat. A birthday my daughter won't forget for the wrong reasons unfortunately. I will never go there again, it's went right down hill.

Starter of mozzarella salad was poor for 6.25, main of sea bass was the wrong sea bass but we'd waited so long I would have eaten nicely pan fried cardboard so just took it. It was tasty but the bass was tiny. Sticky toffee pudding was big and good. Staff were very nice indeed. Music and ambience were also good.

Disappointing visit. Service struggled with our order (a newish member of staff? ), meals where OK, unfortunately poor vegetarian/vegan options — we felt our meals did not reflect great value for money, bit basic and sides where poor and it all really lacked any finesse in presentation. Restaurant was really drafty and our party of six all left pretty disappointed.

Food was ok, although small portions which were not good value for money. It was the whole experience which deserves the 1 Star. Felt sorry for the young waiter who was pleasant and did his best. However, on a Saturday night restaurant was almost empty resulting in zero atmosphere, we were seated next to the kitchen door with the empty coffee jar, spare seat to rest coffee jugs on, high chair, tea towel on the entrance bar, tub for dirty cutlery and plate for waiters well deserved dinner in full view. Sadly this is typical of what Linlithgow has become, it should be so much better but alas this establishment and every other in the town are so poor and disappointing for a meal. Have not been in Linlithgow for a couple of years as usually go out in Falkirk, Glasgow or Edinburgh. The experience tonight will not entice me back!

The Thai fish cakes are fabulous. No breadcrumbs bonus! just loaded with quality fish bursting with flavour. Lovely warm open fireplace. We were looked after by lovely friendly staff. Thanks guys we'll be back.

Great place for a pub lunch. Huge dining room which is grand with kids. Really nice staff and a lovely menu.

Just had my best Christmas dinner of the year at the Star and Garter, Linlithgow. Food was fantastic, service was superb (thanks Jennifer) and very, very good value for money at just £19.99 for three courses. The prawn cocktail was gorgeous, with the sauce exactly as I like it. The main course (I went for traditional turkey and trimmings) was piping hot with the turkey lovely and moist and done to perfection. The vegetables were perfect and the helpings tremendously generous. I had just enough room to enjoy the stodge-free Christmas pudding and excellent custard, washed down by a creamy coffee. Jennifer couldn't have been more attentive and was very knowledgeable about the various wines. My dining partner wanted a less generous plateful than me and Jennifer attended to that with enthusiasm. Her friendly, attentive nature only enhanced what was a fantastic evening. Great company and a great meal. What more could I ask from Santa. A perfect night indeed.

Stayed one night. Very nice clean comfortable room. Had evening guests meal in restaurant which was also very nice. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend on both counts.

Nice bar food, but limited and average selection. Good location, parking train station nearby.

A lovely wee get together with friends, lovely meal and the staff went the extra bit to make the experience worthwhile, simple but good menu should have something for everyone, well worth a visit.

Lovely meal here on Thursday night after my nutriclub class — service was very friendly and the atmosphere was quiet and great for conversation. Thanks Star and Garter — be good if you upped the veg on your meals though. Feel good weight loss.

Lovely place to visit close to train station plenty of places to eat and drink.

Were one of two tables for dinner. Waited circa 30 minutes for starter then another 30 for mains. Had to get up and find a staff member and ask for sauces as did not receive check-back then had to wait another 5 minutes to receive my tiny bit of sauce. Food was decent though.

Nice looking bar restaurant located next to the railway station with a bistro on the upper ground floor and the bar restaurant on the lower ground floor with it's own micro brewery and good food.

Quite busy last night with the deacons being in. Not enough bar staff but reasonable beer. Food looked good.

I came here for an afternoon tea as a way of celebrating with my parents after they recently moved to the area. In spite of us having booked in advance, no table had been reserved and they appeared not to be expecting us. We were seated and then ignored for half an hour while the staff served others. Clearly they were overstretched that day, the food was lovely when it finally arrived but it was disappointing that the initial service was so poor.

Visited for afternoon tea. It was delicious. Food was so fresh and the service was brilliant! Definitely recommend!

Great pub! I attended during the marches, so it was fairly busy, but service was fast and accurate as ever.

Lunch at the bar as the restaurant was fully booked for mother's day. It was still a nice experience, but I was unable to try any of the local beer as I was travelling back to Edinburgh. Must return without the car!

Location great, good food, reasonable prices, service a tad slow but we were not in a rush, so not bothered. Nice decor, need some maintenance work done in some areas ie. Toilet doors. Restaurant furniture needs to me updated but a couple of table cloths would make the place look 10 times better.

Beautiful room, friendly and helpful staff and great food. Expected it to be noisy with being next to a train station and having a pub, pleasantly surprised by the peace and quiet. Dinner was amazing, I had macaroni cheese and chips and my partner had the create your own burger and both were amazing and at a great price. Great base for local attractions. Would definitely stay again. Had the pancakes for breakfast which were to die for. Would go back just for the food. :D.

We stopped in for a drink and were snubbed at the bar. I don't know if it's because we looked like tourists (we had on the wristbands they gave to people for the jousting at the castle) or what, but the lady running the bar stopped us as we were ordering (after asking about their selection of ciders), took another person's order, and then proceeded to help other customers afterwards. Very negative experience. The other restaurants and bars on this street have much better service.

Popped into the bistro at the rear of the pub for a quick lunch. A good selection of snacky style food. The tuna and onion jacket potato was pretty good and came with a side of salad.

Had pre lunch drink in bar then lunch. Food delicious staff friendly and attentive ambience first class would highly recommend. Renovations tasteful and in keeping with history of building.

The hotel burned down October 2010. Currently being renovated and hopefully open soon, will update after.
