Great food. Cozy atmosphere and service.

We were so delighted with this hotel, it's staff and it's food and pub we stayed an extra day. You must stay here if you find yourself in Caenarfon. The food and pub are the best in town too. We hope to return next year.

Love, y food. Too much, if anything. Chicken pie was divine last night. Going back again Friday for another dose. Lovely staff who speak to you like you are worth having there. Apart from a noisy bunch, this place was perfect.

This old Inn was first opened in 1522. How fantastic to drink in the historic atmosphere in a beautiful place at the base of Snowdonia.

Terrible service! Ordered using the QR code as asked by staff. Drinks missed off the order, food took an hour to arrive even after asking 3 staff where it was. 2 children extremely agitated. Not one member of staff apologised for the delay in the food and it had clearly been under a heat lamp as all the food was luke warm — very poor! Worst Sunday lunch ever!

Great hotel we were lucky and had a four poster bed. We were told that it can be very noisy but we did not find it was at all. From the moment we walked in we felt really welcome allocated a parking space at the castle. Reception ladies were so friendly and welcoming. We had a waiter at breakfast even though he was on his own taking orders serving and cleaning tables was so lovely and welcoming. We had 2 meals in the hotel and both were lovely. Be warned though it gets really busy but when you get the service and quality of food you can see why so worth the wait lovely little snug bar area. We went to all bar 4 just down the road that was lovely as well service and cocktails lovely. Had a lovely break thank you very relaxing.

Stayed here many years ago and it was hands down my favourite pub I’ve ever visited or stayed at. I wrote a detailed review on Trip Advisor but to summarize… this pub oozes character and history in every nook and cranny in the bar, restaurant and accommodation rooms. Service is top notch and the food is the best we’ve ever had in a pub. I dream of that sticky toffee pudding. Guests and staff all had an air of… well just happiness and friendly too. Because you can’t help but be happy here. I Just loved it and can’t wait to come back some day. Cheers from!

Given our preference for open air dining, the rear courtyard was the ideal setting to enjoy a great pint and excellent food.

Beautiful building inside and out. Friendly staff. Covid friendly. Only had a drink no food so can't recommend the food, but definitely a place to visit in a surprisingly nice Caernarfon — we will be back!

Fantastic room, huge comfortable queen sized bed, Large tv, lovely big bathroom with great shower. Had a lounge with leather couch and another tv, very clean. Staff very friendly and all food was top class from breakfast to evening meals. Would certainly recommend this hotel and we look forward to going back.

Got to be the best lunch in North Wales. Talk about value for money… excellent food well presented by friendly staff. … we will be back for sure.

Lovely. But they could sort out a better system for ordering. It would only take a bit of thought. May be table service system out side. Better than ordering at the bar. Which can take forever when busy. Given up a few times as have others. And no I don't think turning into a soulless long bar is the answer. Or possible.

Really lovely pub and excellent service. We came here twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast. The food is good quality, well priced and large menu choice. We shared the seafood platter and cheese platter between 4 and then had mains. The lamb chops are delicious! To be honest all dishes were great. There is outdoor seating out the front of the pub and in the internal courtyard out the back. Great for groups You can also stay here which I would certainly do next time I am in town.

Lovely looking pub in a great spot with great beer garden and superb toilet facilities. Jolly barmen but slow service at times. Sunday dinner served promptly but waitress didn't tell us where to find cutlery and condiments. Roast was plentiful and well presented and the children's meals huge. Great atmosphere and lovely to have cards and dominoes to entertain the children. Will call again for a drink and hopefully grab outdoor seating to watch the world go by.

Stopped for food with the wife and 3 kids. Really busy but seated us really quickly. As for the food… Wow! The best steak and ale pie I've ever had. Nothing but positive comments from the kids which says it all really. Can't wait for a return visit.

This bar was advised by a guide, so at lunch came at once 12 people. Despite the workload, the staff worked quickly and with a smile, fed very tasty. The room was cool and it's at 28 on the street. As in Wales as a whole, prices are low.

Lovely place. Food was outstanding. I had the beer battered fish and chips whilst my partner opted for the "lighter option" the club sandwich. Both were an impressive size. Well cooked presented and tasted wonderful. Staff were extremely friendly. A truly unique little Inn. Will definitely return.

Only had a couple of drinks here and didn't try the food but looked like they serve up good portions. Great selection of local ales, enjoyed sat on the wall out front with neat little hand made tables on the wall. Busy on most evenings we walked past too.

Lovely atmosphere and delicious food served by friendly and efficient staff. Rooms well equipped, clean and comfortable. Only reason for 1 star off was the noise in our room 103, from perhaps a generator outside that came on at 6am and a loud buzzing when the bathroom light was on.

Nice quaint Welsh pub but disappointed with the food quality and service. The 4 of us only ate here so not reviewing the inn. We had to wait over an hour to be seated after being told the wait would be 30 minutes. However, there is a bar where you can wait and have a drink. Once seated and food ordered, the service was fairly prompt and friendly. The food was pretty average. Please set your expectation on the basis that the food will satisfy any hunger you have, but won’t wow you with quality. All courses, apart from the steak, seemed pre-prepared and warmed up so lacked fresh quality taste. Overall average if you’re prepared to wait it out.

Possibly the most expensive place to eat in Caernarfon but definitely one of the most interesting…! A charming little pub with a small children's play area across from it just tucked inside the city walls… The Black Boy is steeped in local history and a great place to eat if you're feeling flush although other fantastic and much cheaper cafes and bars are on the same street too… the vegetarian options are limited but interesting… I can personally recommend the Spinach Pancakes…! Very tasty…! Have visited a few times and have always enjoyed it!

We loved this place. Arrived on Friday afternoon for 1 night. We have a large pick up which was too big for the on site car park but the lovely lady on reception arranged for us to park at the castle for free. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The room was truly amazing and quirky. Great selection of food and drink. Location is perfect. Breakfast was outstanding — great choice and all cooked fresh to order. We can't recommend highly enough. If you are ever in the area it's well worth a visit.

From the moment we stepped inside the dining room I knew we'd made the right choice. The decor and service combined for a warm welcome. Great food choices and ultra friendly made for a perfect meal. Portions generous and great quality we will return for sure and stay over to sample some of the fantastic drinks on offer :)

Excellent traditional Inn, popular with tourists and locals alike. It gets busy, but this is part of the charm. The Inn is quite motorcycle friendly, with safe parking out the back and the staff are well used to the requirements of folk touring on motorbikes. You have probably gathered that I like the place at this point. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

This was recommended by a hotel I stayed at whilst travelling with work. Really cosy place, low sealing, fire, old welcoming kinda feel. Lovely menu selection and the food was excellent (I paid around £21) I did have one of the more expensive things on the menu. In general I wouldn't say too expensive. Beer and larger selection was good, looked like they had guest ales on rotation. Friendly staff. I would definitely return if I'm ever back in the area.

Very good I recommend the pub the kitchen is very authentic I suggest you the grill lamb chop.

We had eaten at the Black Boy Inn a couple of times and I decided to book a room, as a last minute thing. What a great decision to make. We had an executive double room which was clean, well-furnished and full of character — with wood beams and light fittings to match. We ate at the restaurant and were treated to delicious, quality food. Breakfast was somehow even better! The staff were all brilliant — so friendly and attentive. I couldn't recommend the Black Boy Inn enough! Great value for money too.

Friends and I came here two years ago and loved the food we had. We made a point of returning during our holiday this year and haven't been disappointed. The Black Boy serves wonderful food, the staff are lovely, and the Inn is a wonderful part of local history. Well worth a visit!

Lovely historical pub in the heart of Caernarfon. Great varied food menu and drinks. Eaten here before and would normally have the Saint Dwynwens pie with some cheesy garlic bread, highly recommended. This time I plumped for the BLT, nice light bite with plenty of salad and chips. Great pub.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant/food and worth a travel alone. The Inn is fabulous and the rooms are top notch. Very very highly recommend by myself.

A nice traditional style pub/restaurant. Great atmosphere. However when ordering the food we were overcharged slightly on 1 of our two meals.
This was rectified when the waitress came to confirm our order.
The young waiter neglected to bring out any cutlery with our meal, a bit amused by this.
Our meals were very good, I had the giant Yorkshire pudding and my wife the pancakes with mushrooms. Large portion sizes and plenty of meat and veg.
Overall I would recommend a visit.

Went for lunch to The Black Boy with friends. It's a lovely old inn, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is impeccable. They have a good range of drinks in the bar. It's nice that it has separate bars and a restaurant area, all providing the same food and drink, of course. Great place, would highly recommend and definitely intend to return.

Stayed here for 2 nights, absolutely fabulous, warm, friendly staff. The place is gorgeous. The rooms are very well kept. We even had a kitchen, table and chairs in our room. Thank you to all the staff that helped make our time there special. Highly recommended.

Wow, a great traditional pub. Lovely decor, very friendly staff and a great welcome. The bar was quite full with a buzz from contented customers. The restaurant wasn't accepting bookings through December, but I got shown to a table quickly. The variety of food on the menu was excellent, I opted for smoked haddock on a bed of spring onion mash with a melange of vegetables. The portion was a good size and was of very good quality, with the freshest of fish and perfectly cooked veg. Overall I can fully recommend the Black Boy.

Busy little place! Decor everywhere, definitely lots to look at and keep you interested. Delicious, hearty food. The service was on & off… One waiter would be great, the next we waited ages to pay our bill. Cozy place to have a drink & warm meal after climbing Snowdon summit!

Great beer selection and a very interesting pub, but let down by average service and a poor solo vegan option on a huge menu. If you're going to offer a vegan option, please don't just remove the main ingredient from one of the vegetarian mains and then charge the same price. £14 for a pepper stuffed with plain rice isn't very inspiring. Would return to drink but not to eat.

Lovely atmosphere, almost full on a Tuesday! Open fires and cosy. Meals arrived very promptly (15 minutes). I ordered the stuffed chicken breast on mashed potato. The mash was not hot and the chicken was dry in parts, especially around the edges, though the flavours were good. I'd give the place another go and order a different meal.

Great pub for drinks and atmosphere, food very overpriced for what you get. Don't get me wrong the portions are very generous, however when you are paying £20 for a sirloin steak you expect something pretty decent… expect chips from the freezer rather than home cooked, a mediocre piece of meat, some frozen peas, a couple of huge homemade looking onion rings (which were the best thing on the plate) and some very weird tasting peppercorn sauce. On the upside, the starter of baked camembert was really good but you can't really get that wrong can you?!

By far the best place to stay. Fabulous surroundings, helpful and friendly staff, good quality food! We loved it and will definitely make a return visit soon.

Complete surprise. Have stayed in five star hotels that are not as good as this. Top quality and great staff. Really enjoyed our stay. Excellent food and accommodation at very reasonable prices.

The food was excellent with the staff being very friendly and helpful. The only exception to this is that they required us to pay up front rather than leaving a tab open as apparently they have quite a few people who leave without paying. Apart from this minor set back, the overall experience was excellent and I would happily visit again.

Struggled to decide where to go for our last evening meal. Finally settled on here. I usually I was worried as we had our 20 month old daughter with us. We arrived at 6 without a booking (strangely recommended as the restraint isn't massive) but we were given a nice table by the window. Offered to order drinks which arrived very quickly and our food order was taken very quickly. Food took about 15-20 minutes to arrive (which is a good thing) I had the black jack burger, wife had Welsh pie and daughter had chicken goujons. All portions were very generous and beautifully presented. A very pleasant meal and wish we could go back again! Highly recommended and not a negative to say. Beautiful surroundings helpful and friendly front of house and a kitchen team that know what they are doing. Only 2 points to note. Our table was pre laid with cutlery, we didn't order starters and these should of been taken away. Second, no-one asked how our meal was whilst we were eating. Previously dropped stars for this but the venue deserves all 5.

The Black Boy had come highly recommended and it did not disappoint. I read one review from a man disappointed about being in the room at the back but we were in there and it was really lovely. Food was delicious, great range of choices, proper upmarket pub grub and the portions were huge. 4 diners and a 2 year old, we shared antipasti and camambert for 2 starters followed by burger, stuffed chicken, lamb pie and chicken and leek pie and a child's portion scampi, chips and peas. All delicious. No room for desserts after all that. Pricier than your average pub but that's what you pay for such a unique, beautiful old building, with such friendly staff and great food. Oh and forgot to mention a great range of real ales, if that is your thing. Will definitely be back! Thank you.

Excellent place to stay. The food is good. The staff is friendly. There is a playground opposite to the Inn, so it's good for kids as well. The rooms are clean. The waitressing should be improved though. It's understood that there are many trainees and just a few experienced waiters. So a couple of times (out of 5 dine-ins) our food preferences were not catered for and the service was slow.

Booked to stay for the weekend but we arrived at 9:30pm and said there were some sort of error that we were not booked for the first night but yes for the second nigh and placed us at the Celtic royal hotel (hated it. Very old and suited for old people) but I think they gave our room away since late arrival. However, the second night we stayed a little bit away of the black boy in around the corner. It was really nice and seemed newly refurbished. And had food in the black boy in restaurant. Food was alright. Asked the receptionist if they did course meals such as 2 courses or 3; said no. And looked at the menu at night they did do them. Would stay with them again. Staff are excellent. Also the breakfast waz amazing!

The place is cosy enough and the range of beers is very good. The service was fast and efficient and the staff polite and friendly. The menu was quite reasonable with veggie options which is good for my other half. I had a burger which was extremely large but maybe lacked a bit of quality but not only to the extent it was very average not horrible. It is decent pub grub.

We had dinner and drinks outside on a Wednesday night. A great selection of drinks on offer and very friendly and helpful staff. The food was mostly good, the haloumi entree was great though the chunks of chicken breast in the chicken pie and fish pieces in the seafood soup were overcooked (too dry). Good flavors overall but a little refinement required.

I have only ever been to the Black Boy once but I shall definitely be going again. I went for my birthday lunch there with friends who had recommended it. The food and drink were very good, with a wide range to choose from and the portion sizes were certainly not skimped. The service was more friendly than snappy but it was timely enough. The staff were very welcoming and sociable. As I said, I shall be going again.

Attended for Sunday dinner with a large family group, food was excellent and service was brilliant throughout. Only negative was having to ask for the sauces that were meant to come with the meats, other than that, brilliant.

Very nice authentic place, semms like the local favourite as it was busy both times that I visited! Food is delicious especially burgers and comes quickly. I didnt enjoy Welsh pie as much though, it was just a bit tasteless. You have to try it to see for yourself. Apart from that, I definitely recommend it if you are in the area.

Last night of a weekend. Went in due to a recommendation, very worth while. The customers and staff are very friendly. The beer cider and food is excellent also.

We had a really nice stay there on our trip to ireland. As we drove the whole way from southern germany to wales, we decided to stay over night before heading over to ireland by ferry. Our room was really cozy and very comfortable. The service was very friendly. Unfortunately we only had one night there. It is really worth the money. We are planning to come back here for a few days. German: We have stayed here on the way to Ireland in the last year, since the journey from southern Germany to the coast was to Wales but very tiring. Our room was very cosy and comfortable Abel, what was the journey a real treat. The Service was really very friendly, even when the dialect can be difficult to understand. Unfortunately, we only had the one Night there, but are planning again for a few days there, since Wales liked very much. The money is definitely worth.

The meal was nice however they got our order wrong in a few places eg we asked for things and didn't not get them (chips, salad etc (but did not compain at the time as we were not charged) and I got a different sandwich than what I asked and was not told why. Also I got our hot drinks at the bar but could not carry them all so the bartender offered to follow me out with them but by the time we got them, they were cold and they did not give us any milk — cold black coffee is not pleasant.

The location and atmosphere is great. The drink selection is very good as well. I'm hardly impressed with the service. They tend to act aggravated to help. I'm also not a fan of the lighting. Overall, a great pub and restaurant I'd recommend to my friends.

Turned up with 22 slightly muddy walkers (adults and kids) on Jan 2nd and were warmly welcomed, had a new room opened up just for us and were fed really good food. What's not to love?! Would definitely go back and recommend to others.
