Reviews of Malmaison Newcastle 4*
Great ambience and amazing facility.
Amazing atmosphere very relaxed comfortable feel fabulous staff And absolutely gorgeous food every time.
Fantastic night at the hotel Staff very friendly.
Lovely hotel to stay at, great staff.
Friendly, helpful staff and a great location.
Had such a lovely afternoon tea with cocktails. Delicious food and amazing service especially from Tessie. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended 🤩🤩🤩
Just had a lovely afternoon tea at the malmaison hotel in Newcastle. Food was great. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Tessie was great nothing was any trouble for her.
Always have a great time when we stay at the Malmasion. Friendly Staff throughout from reception, restaurant and bar staff. Food is always excellent highly recommend the spa too when it’s open. Great location for the Quayside. Thanks for the great service at breakfast Tirso.
A brilliant, high quality Afternoon Tea in a beautiful setting. A massive thank you to Tesse and Amy who were friendly, professional and attentive and looked after us so well from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, it certainly helped to make our special day even more memorable, they are a credit to the Hotel. Thank you.
Fantastic hotel on quayside. Check in was effortless and made to feel very welcome. All staff were lovely and accommodating especially Tirso who looked after us at breakfast time.
Lovely hotel room was clean and spacious hotel staff were very friendly.
Amazing Hotel with nice view.
Really comfortable bed. Modern rooms with nice finishing touches.
Great location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely be returning.
I would just like to say tonight Stuart and Andrew have been by far the best two people I’ve ever met working a hotel, they have helped with everything I have asked for and went above and beyond the job description nothing was a bother, two of the most friendly people I’ve ever met, great service xx.
Was. A great hotel very friendly staff and rooms are spacious an cosy with everything u need in them will stay here again.
Lovely hotel, ordered a room service meal on the evening which was delicious. Breakfast in the restaurant was fabulous and the young gentleman that looked after us Rhys was absolutely lovely 🥰 fantastic customer service nothing was too much trouble xx.
I worked at this hotel. It was shocking. I working here 2 weeks I had 4 rooms to start with and the manager had said to me that I’d start off with 4 rooms and when I felt more comfortable to do more rooms to tell him. I had ent said I was comfortable doing more than 4 by over a week and they had put it up to 6/7 rooms. I had gone into work on Sunday and they had given me 14 rooms and to work with an agency and she them how to do the rooms, when I had been there 2 weeks. I had spoken to the manager about this on a number of occasions and he didn’t take how I felt on board. They treated me like rubbish and didn’t feel welcome at all by anyone. They had makes me feel incredibly small and not good enough for the housekeeping position. I went to work today and had made a genuine mistake in one of the rooms and all of a sudden the manager sacks me. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to work in the housekeeping department at Malmasion Newcastle. They also said I’d get a locker for my belongings and I never got one, I had also asked numerous of times for that too. I asked for a different size in my uniform and just got ignored. I felt like I got talked by the managers behind my back constantly. I would say it was the most toxic workplace I’ve ever worked in before.
Could not fault the food and service. Very friendly, pleasant and attentive staff. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with very good views of the Baltic, Sage, Milennium Bridge and Tyne Bridge.
Beautiful hotel, excellent service and ideal location.
Had afternoon tea, back massage and facial. Loved it. Would highly recommend it.
Choose a room with a view, you won’t be disappointed. Great location on Newcastle Quayside.
Friendly and helpful staff. Clean room. Comfortable bed. Evening meal in the restaurant was lovely and the staff went out of their way to accommodate my vegan diet.
Fantastic food, service and Christmas atmosphere.
Very good food, service first class x.
No way worth what they are charging and our room wasn’t what I booked and it was a disgrace sick in plug hole🤮 wet floor next to bed 🤢 and the noise during the next was that bad that we had to wear earplugs also
Looking out of the window there was cigarette buts on the ledge from a no smoking room!
When we complained we were offered 20 % off the bill!
Don’t think that is a fair compensation do you!
Great service and fantastic food.
Love the place. Staff are amazing and food is so nice.
Popped in for a drink, spent £40 on a bottle of wine and asked the server if they were still serving food — sadly not but then the next table got complimentary nuts. We’ve stayed here a few times and always had a nut bowl to nibble on; not be staying for a while on a point of principal. Mal it’s not worth it for about 30p worth of nuts.
We love coming here. Treated ourselves to the Ark Royal Suite. Twin baths, Super King-size bed and a lovely big TV.
Rhys seriously needs a raise! nothing was too much trouble for him.
breakfast was delicious and the service was so quick as was the room service.
we have just booked to return for our Honeymoon.
Really enjoyed our stay, staff so friendly. Beds are really comfy and rooms are definitely worth the money.
Well worth a stay, would recommend the spa couple treatments very professional and friendly staff. Amazing food from the brassiere with Fantastic service. Special thanks to Adam who made our stay extra special.
Lovely treatment in the spa thanks to Julia. Everything felt really safe and comfortable.
Excellent staff especially Meghan and Dale in the restaurant, your both fantastic customer orientated people very very good at your jobs, the mrs and I had a lovely chat with Meghan and a fab night thank you so much
Rooms are clean, spacious and comfy would stay again deffo.
Reasonable room rates if you look for deals and a great location.
We arrived on Tuesday and the man recommended the corner room and it was beautiful and staff were lovely and friendly.
Great staff, food and bar!
Amazing, my absolute favourite hotel ❤️x x x.
Had 1 night at this hotel for a family birthday and had a lovely stay. Was given vouchers for free cocktails on arrival and had a couple of hours in bar before heading out. Breakfast was included in the price. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Fantastic areas for large party afternoon tea. Attentive staff. Teapots constantly refilled. Amazing food.
Me and my fiance booked up for a night and received what id rate as the best service from a hotel ive had DAVE was awesome very informative and really made us feel welcome would always go back.
Beautiful luxurious rooms. We are in the Corner suite and it’s amazing with great views.
Fantastic customer service always.
Lovely hotel, great location, great views over the River Tyne, friendly staff, Love love it!
Came for afternoon tea in the private dining room and were totally spoiled with lovely food and the most wonderful, attentive, friendly service by Teasie (not sure of the spelling but she’s a gem! ). Lovely afternoon.
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch. The food was delicious. We were looked after by Ryan. He did a fabulous job. Nothing was a problem for him. Great service.
Lovely location food was nice staff are so friendly tessie in the restaurant and Julie in the spa made the whole experience great we had a spa day and it was really enjoyable would totally recommend.
Fabulous hotel. Great food, lovely rooms and first class service.
Amazing staff, great location and very comfy big bed.
Amazing time, the bar staff were superb, Aaron in the restaurants was great and to top it all off an amazing room.
Really enjoyed the hotel, the dinner was very nice food and ver attentive staff, but … it was let down by added service charges and the breakfast although it was nice it was very dry, not a baked bean in sight, Obviously precooked not fresh to order and the poached eggs were like a hard boiled egg, not what I expect a high class hotel chain to serve, poached eggs are supposed to be cooked to order and should be runny yolks not hard boiled, other than that a memorable stay can’t fault the staff and the hotel brilliant but the breakfast let it down,
Thank you so much to Dale and Megan for making my amazing hen party so special yesterday. They both went above and beyond to ensure we all had an amazing time and even stepping in as photographer! As well as the incredible service the afternoon was delicious.
Great venue for an afternoon tea. Was delicious. Staff were great, very attentive and friendly. We were there for a Hen Do prosecco afternoon tea. Highly recommend it for your special occasions.
Brilliant afternoon tea
Perfect views
And brilliant staff especially Tirso who was very attentive and so welcoming he was extremely friendly with top class service he boxed up the treats we were to full to eat to take home xx
Can’t wait to come back.
We arrived today and met the very friendly and helpful reception staff. We were allocated a lovely room and met Don in the restaurant. Don was very professional and provided brilliant service and local knowledge. The evening meal was fantastic. Having travelled all around Europe, I would certainly rate the hotel, meal and staff as one of the best and definately top class!
Fabulous food and the place was lovely and we were seated as soon as we got there. Took 5 minutes for our tea to come and the service was exceptional.
Great room. Fantastic view. Nice food in the restaurant.
However really annoyed to find an almost £7 service charge on my bill the next morning. Especially considering I left a tip with the waiter… no mention that they add a service charge anywhere… sneeky.
Myself & my friend decided to have a girlie afternoon on Sat 29th Sept 18 we were greeted by friendly staff on arrival we were shown to a gorgeous table for 2 overlooking Newcastle Quay Sides Millennium Bridge
Rhys was our waiter he talked us through the afternoon tea menu he was very knowledgeable and so friendly & happy.
The service was five star & our afternoon tea was absolutely beautiful infact a work of art & so tasty.
We can’t wait to go back to such a beautiful trendy establishment.
Lovely hotel, very clean & modern. Room well stocked with drinks & snacks. Staff friendly and great service. In a lovely location overlooking the river Tyne opposite the Millennium Bridge.
Great service when we stayed last weekend, very reasonable price too given the size of room and location.
Cannot say enough good things! When we first checked in we were given a deluxe standard room which we had requested, however it was only a few floors up and it faced a bar that is directly across the street. There was some sort of party going on at the bar which caused the sound level to be absolutely horrible. We called the front desk to ask if we could be moved to a different room and they actually upgraded us to a suite in the top floor free of charge. They even sent a porter to move our bags for us. The suite was gorgeous with a deep soaking tub. Very clean hotel and obviously the staff care very much about making sure their guests have a great day, which we did!
Exceptional experience! Occasionaly we treat ourselves to a dinner at Malmaison and we are always impressed by a quality of meals and service. Don who looked after us this time was fantastic.
Gorgeous rooms, amazing breakfast and location! Couldn't ask for better.
Upmarket yet inexpensive hotel chain. The room was very large, enough to sleep 4. But best of all, Malmaison allows dogs to stay for a small additional charge.
Stayed here for one night, the room was lovely with great views, food was fabulous, staff were very friendly and helpful too, my only grumble would be the pillows in the room were very poor quality and we could here refuse collections on the streets very early in the morning, but I would stay again at Malmaison hotels!
Came here for my 30th birthday for the weekend. Room was beautiful mine faced the millennium bridge so I had beautiful view the staff are so helpful. Went to the bar online of the night's and tried the cocktails what were lush even got a free 1 for my birthday. Thank you for making it an enjoyable weekend.
Service and venue were excellent. Let down by cold plates. Luke warm food and a steak house that incorrectly cooked the food. Bleeding medium steak requested medium well not rare. Offered free desserts. In hindsight should have asked to pay half for the bill. My friend couldn't eat her steak. No productive follow up after leaving review? Bad policy in my opinion. A half price offer would have me go back. Not now.
Last night was the second time me and my partner have been here but the first time we stayed over night. The room was beautiful the decor was lovely and the champagne was on ice ready and waiting for us. The bed was a nice size and was very comfy with beautiful soft quilt and pillows. We had a meal booked at 6.30 and the food was amazing as it was the first time we went. We took the waitress (Charlotte) recommendations and I must say I wasn't disappointed. We weren't rushed w…e were give plenty of time between courses and it gave the whole evening a special feel. The breakfast in the morning was beautiful also lots of choice in continental and cooked. The only problem we had was some noisy people slamming doors through the night which woke us up other than that we had a perfect night just what we needed after my partner being away for a while. We will most certainly be back.
This has been my favourite hotel in Newcastle so far, the room is large and well laid out with a big smart TV, good shower, comfortable bed and great views of the River Tyne. It's right on the river next to the millennium bridge. On the downside the breakfast and car parking is expensive at £16 and £10 per day respectively. Also I haven't used the restaurant as the dinner options on the menu menu are quite fussy.
Spent a night in the Ark Royal Suite at this hotel which was lovely. The staff here were all fantastic and the facilities are very good. There were 2 things that let it down in my eyes: 1. This particular hotel seems to be surviving on its reputation for luxury accommodation. It's certainly looking shabby in a number of areas which you don't expect from this brand. The most expensive room in the hotel shouldn't have a threadbare sofa and stains in the bath. 2. When you pay £350 a night for a room it's just embarrassing to ask people to pay an extra £2 per person for a hot breakfast. Just put the room price up and include it. Dont take these things as major negatives, we had a lovely time here and will stay again (but not in this suite).
Had a lovely Mother's day lunch at the Malmaison. Very good service from all members of staff on the day and exceptional service from Rhys who remembered us from last year. Food was lovely especially the mini puddings. Great view over the Millenium Bridge and the Tyne. Will be back next year.
We’ve been here for Sunday lunch a couple of times before but today for Mother’s Day they surpassed themselves. All mums received a glass of pink champagne and a goody bag which was lovely. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed and nothing is too much trouble our server Tessie was friendly and put us all at our ease I felt like I’d known her for years. She remembered all our names such a great personal touch and it goes without saying hats off to the chefs food colourful tasty and hot an overall fantastic family experience.
Great hotel. Wonderful view of the river and bridge. Staff really friendly on check in and at every encounter. At breakfast they went out of their way to say good morning which was lovely. Gym was small but perfectly formed.
Really happy with our stay. Room was very spacious and the decor was modern but comfy, good location, everything that we needed. Shower cap was snapped when I took it out of the box, looked used?! That was the only fault, would return.
Lovely hotel. Staff are fantastic and the rooms are beautifully presented. Only one criticism, the lighting is not great for applying make up.
We've just arrived home after a lovely stay in the Malmaison. I was a competition winner back in December in association with The Botanist Our room was over looking the beautiful River Tyne. We enjoyed our delicious full English breakfast with all the added extras of toast, juices, fruit and tea. The service from Dave the receptionist to Sukkie (not sure if I got that right) the waitress was second to none and the staff were all helpful and friendly throughout our little stay. I will definitely recommend to anyone if you are thinking of staying in Newcastle this would be the one! Thank you one and all xx.
Beautiful location on the quayside, near the bridge. Room was lovely and clean, large comfy bed. Dinner was very tasty with a reasonable price too. Would highly recommend.
Room was great, spacious and comfortable. Food in the restaurant was excellent, great portions too. Cocktails also very very good. Staff all friendly and helpful, overall had a great stay. Only issue was phantom charges on bill at checkout but receptionist dealt with this quickly.
The Restaurant at Malmaison serves excellent meals, the Chefs seem top notch. The Waiting Staff are assertive and helpful. We were seated at a spacious table, party of 6, and we all agreed that we'd visit again because of the good experience we'd had there. Definitely recommended!
Great eccentric decor and superb restaurant. Starbucks has a prime spot with views of the Millenium Bridge. However, add a decent markup on a regular Starbucks.
Nice hotel on the banks of the time. Have only used the restaurant here. The food was excellent. A few friends have stopped here and all have said it was lovely.
We been before and like this hotel. We got an upgrade and the room was beautiful, modern and clean. The bed was very comfortable and a good night sleep was had. The cost prevents us giving it a 5 stars.
Bed comfortable, but needs larger sheets to tuck in properly. Lovely split aspect room over the Tyne. Room temp and air conditioning perfect. Restaurant over priced, serving very old and dried out frozen food, way below the quality you would expect from the fussy, old fashioned service. The restaurant was also cold and so dark, we all had problems being able to read the menu. So, 9/10 for the room, 1/10 for the awful restaurant and worse food. The really need to gut the kitchen and start again.
Nice hotel by the Milenium bridge. Great service. The food was good, especially breakfast. Internet was slow.
Nice decor but the entire hotel is very dark. Lighting is inadequate for room size. Not ideal for getting ready for a night out. Great for relaxing though.
Good food and good service. Walls thin, could hear next rooms TV and couldn't get to sleep until after 00.30, we went to bed at 10pm. This was staying in a chateau suite. I'd stay again but would have reservations about upgrading.
Came here on a Sunday afternoon. We were welcomed by friendly staff and beautiful live music being played. The staff were helpful with food suggestions for light bites. I had a fish finger sub with a cup of carrot and parsley soup. My friend ordered the blt and chips. Both our meals were presented beautifully. The soup was a touch salty of my liking but still flavourful. All in all, we had a wonderful experience. The live music was incredible. Edit davidmusicuk was the guy performing.
Had a comfortable stay. Wee bit of a wait in the restaurant. Bar staff very friendly. I would recommend a stay here and I will stay again.
Love the Malmaison. Staff are very friendly, the food is very very good and the drinks aren't badly priced for a hotel. Happy hour cocktails on Fridays before 7pm are to die for and well worth the trip into town. Brasserie is fantastic and the hotels location is brilliant, right on the Quayside within easy reach of other popular venues. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
Fabulous wine and food pairing event. Hope to get an invite to the next one. Went with friends and made new ones on the night. The food was lovely and we tried wines I had never had before. Richard our host was so welcoming and over the bubbly and nibbles we soon got to know our other guests. Richard explined why he had chosen each wine and gave a brief introduction to them. It was more of a party atmospher than a talk. Cant wait for the next one!
Good location for the Quayside, nice staff, nothing at all wrong with the room. Personally, I just find the decor of this hotel brand a bit dark. Restaurant food and drinks were fine, nothing special, probably a bit over priced. Would stay there again given the right deal.
Went for champagne afternoon tea with a friend. Absolutely worth it! Lovely decor & ambiance, friendly helpful staff, excellent afternoon tea and people watching. What more could you want!
I've stayed here since it opened back in the 90's. Fantastic hotel down on the quayside and has a fantastic bar and restaurant. Good selection of rooms. Try and get one with a view of the millennium bridge. Plenty of bars next to the hotel for s change of scene.
Since there's no separate listing for the restaurant, this review will include both. My thoughts on the hotel are simple — it's a bit expensive but amazing, clean, and fancy. I'd give it a 4/5 The hotel is beautiful so I hoped the restaurant would be great, at least compared to other hotel restaurants — unfortunately I was wrong. Sure, the food is well presented, but it's nothing special, it's quite expensive for the small portions, and the service is terrible. What particularly brings my rating down though, is the service, or lack thereof — the hostess was OK, as was the person that brought my food, but the waiter was the most unhelpful and unpleasant one I've likely ever had across multiple countries and classes of restaurants — why hire someone like this? He made the same food suggestions 3 separate times, quickly left after each time, and every time he dropped by he had the same unamused expression, body language, and tone. Simply following a script without any genuine intent. Continental breakfast is only OK because it's self serve. Also, if you call and press 0 (zero) anytime during the automated voice menu, the line instantly cuts off (hangs up) — nice way to say don't bother trying to reach reception.
Great views of the Millennium Bridge from the right room, cafe attached is great for a quick snack or coffee. Rooms are reasonable.
We stayed over night in a corner sweat and it was great a free standing bath and rain forest shower. We ate in the hotel the food was night and the staff were great! I would recommend the mal in Newcastle.
The meeting room was great for what we needed the draw back was that we were on the 7th floor and the toilets were on the 1st. The lunch provided was excellent and the staff where 1st rate, very attentive.
Visited as part of a day spa package which included lunch in the brasserie. The food was very nice and the service was top notch. The restaurant overlooked the quayside which was a nice touch. The spa package for us consisted of a pedicure for my wife and a massage for myself. We were both happy with the service provided. For lunch and an hours worth of therapy, we couldn't fault the price. I would come back again and probably stay over. Overall very nice experience, would recommend to friends and family.
Great food, great atmosphere and music. Staff could have been more knowledgeable about the event.
A very nice hotel in a very convenient location. Rooms were well appointed with views over the water. Hotel staff were extremely professional and helpful. A very nice place to stay.
Comfortable bed, nice service, great facilities.
Nice rooms and friendly staff. Not to mention the bar!
Great Hotel in a nice location overlooking the river. Staff were friendly and attentive, highly recommend!
Great location next to the river Tyne, staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are kept to a high standard with excellent decor.
One the best hotels in Newcastle. Rooms are an excellent standard and service is very friendly.
Myself, my wife and a friend had sunday Lunch today in the Brasserie, making use of a voucher we had purchased on line. We arrived early but were looked after by a friendly and efficient member of staff behind the bar who did everything possible to make us feel at home. The starter was a help yourself selection of a multitude of delights both to the eye and on the palate and is as good as we have had 'worldwide' The main course of traditional Sunday fare was again exceptional in its quality, presentation and taste. Although we had paid a discounted rate for the lunch we could not have imagined how special the occasion turned out to be and we will definitely return regardless of the cost. Our thanks go to all of the staff but especially to the young lady behind the bar who went the extra mile to make us feel at home, regrettably we did not get her name.
Visited over New year 2014/15. I have used most of the Malmaison Hotels around the UK over the past 10 years and am always pleased with the experience. However, on this occasion things were not as good as previous stays. We had a superior room, although not overlooking the river as had been booked. The shower did not work on the first day, and we had to make a request to have the room serviced at tea time on the fist day of our stay. The fixtures and fittings of this hotel are looking pretty tired as is the plumbing. On the morning of our departure the whole of the top floor lost the supply of water. Eeks, soapy hair for the day then. Nice. The staff were ok, if not a bit too hassled by complaints. Not sure I'd stay in a Malmaison again, which is shame as I like their design and service concept, but they are becoming too complacent.
Very nice. Cleen, and comfortable.
Not sure If I was upgraded at all, but the standard double room was very nice. Spacious room with a very relaxed and classy feel to it. Gym could be a bit better I suppose, but for the location and presentation, it was very nice hotel for a business week.
I'd booked a suite to get ready in for my wedding, unfortunately the suite was nothing like the ones I was shown when I had been to visit. It was small, dark and really unsuitable. I then down graded for my wedding night and this room, although being less than half the price of a suite was much nicer. There were several guests staying and all of us were over charged on checkout. So do check your bill carefully. I have since had a further payment taken out of my account. Not quite the experience we were hoping for.
Lovely hotel, great food and friendly staff.
The Malmaison Newcastle is a good place for a couples weekend away, although it is expensive. It is a boutique hotel, and the prices reflect this. You can book special deals to get a good price though. The hotel has the same dark trendy atmosphere that Malmaison hotels like. The room is amazingly clean, with an amazing big bed. The room is spacious and you get all the standard amenities. The shower is amazing in the morning. We had no need to use the room service, but staying at the hotel they can organise a booking at their restaurant at the last minute. The restaurant has quite good food. Would definitely recommend, but book in advance on a deal to get cheaper prices.

Came here for a rest and relaxation after an intense period of grief. Just after midnight had some madman knock and pound on my bedroom door. They wouldn’t go away. Came here for some relaxation and it must be the noisiest hotel I’ve been in (windows as thin as can be) and some lunatic pounding on my door at midnight. Absolutely not what I’d paid for.
