Great rooms and service. The bar and restaurant are both really nice with a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We had the most amazing weekend at the Angel Hotel. Ttreated like Queens! staff are so friendly, kind, helpful. Adam introduced us to new cocktails and gave us lots of giggles. All the staff were just incredibly. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Tom was very knowledgeable in the restaurant and looked after us, delicious food. There was a very friendly lady there on the Friday night aswell who took the time to speak with us and also came and found us Sunday to say goodbye to us at our Cream Tea. Sorry I forgot her name. She was so lovely. She gave us advice on where to go as did Adam and Tom. The porter Steve was so funny, friendly and kind. To say the staff made the Hotel so much better is an understatement, such wonderful down to earth people who clearly connect with the general public so well making them feel so welcome and valued 😊 Can't wait to come back again. Xx.

I've been meaning to post a review in ages ❤️ My now husband and I celebrated our wedding day at The Angel Hotel on Wednesday 20th April 2022. I cannot believe how absolutely wonderful your staff are! Nothing was too much trouble — we were definitely made to feel extra special. My sister and I stayed the night prior to the wedding and we had the most memorable time! I seriously cannot recommend you highly enough. I would like to especially mention Steve who assisted us with every little request we had, always with a smile, Tyler who made our breakfast extra special with a bucks fizz, and the patient room maids who were waiting for me whilst I was getting ready. Your staff truly make this hotel — they are absolutely amazing. Adam & I cannot wait to come back again soon. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts xxx.

The Angel Hotel is lovely. A wonderful place to relax whilst exploring the local area. Great breakfasts, cocktails and evening meals plus bar snacks if you want them.

Such a pretty restaurant, lovely staff and delicious food. They managed to fit us in without a reservation. It was the perfect place to hide from the storm.

We had an amazing lunch here to celebrate my parents birthdays. We were 8 adults and 4 children including a 2 year old. The food was beautiful and the staff were amazing. They paid really close attention to making sure the children's food came out with our starters and their desserts came with our mains, this meant that we could all relax and enjoy our food and the kids were eating when we were but were not left waiting for food and getting crabby. The restaurant is also lovely with great artwork and decor. Highly recommend.

We only had dinner in their restaurant and didn’t stay over. We had the express cocktail menu at £25 per head for a 3 course meal including a Bellini cocktail. The food was absolutely delicious! The service was also fantastic! It’s worth knowing in advance that they apply a service charge to your bill, However that was fine by us. We’ll definitely be going back!

We visited The Angel Hotel for afternoon tea today. The waitresses and waiters were friendly and welcoming. The lounge area was very relaxing with lovely music and comfortable seating. Great ambiance. Very tasty afternoon tea. Nothing was too much trouble. A great experience. We left very relaxed and happy. Thank you very much.

Previous visits to the Angel have always been great however, yesterday three of us visited for afternoon tea to celebrate a special birthday. We were made welcome and given a lovely seat near the fire. Service was attentive. Then two customers came in with their staffy dog, it jumped up onto a table and licked the cutlery, the manager came along and moved the cutlery to the next table as the customers were only having a drink. The dog owner was talking and swearing loudly which completely upset the ambience. The dog didn’t settle and was barking, the customer then allowed the dog onto his lap and allowed it to drink beer from his glass. Even though the staff saw this they didn’t address it. We left earlier than anticipated due to this issue. The staff apologised when we left and removed the £12 service charge (that we weren’t expecting anyway). We weren’t the only people to complain. The manager didn’t speak to anyone about it, he left it with his staff to apologise.

We had a Boxing Day family meal and a first visit for my grandson Max. I can’t praise the Angel Hotel enough — the staff were excellent, very relaxing experience and a first class meal. Highly recommend a visit.

Lovely big room overlooking the road (and car park) to the front. Very comfortable. Delicious dinner with friendly and efficient service as we needed to get to the theatre. Delicious breakfast in the morning, again with very friendly and efficient staff. Loved the whole grain toast rather than just shop bought cheap sliced bread. Scrambled eggs perfect.

Great birthday lunch with the family today in the restaurant today. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and the food was excellent. Definitely be visiting again soon.

The rooms were lovely (I stayed in a suite that was over £300 a night), which is why it was utterly disappointing to receive the breakfast I did as the vegan option. Two tomatoes, a few mushrooms and some spinach, and served with dairy butter! I also asked for some baked beans which I thought was a pretty common staple of a cooked breakfast (didn’t come) and some hot water with lemon as I was ill during my stay (didn’t come) Also make sure you request a room that isn’t overlooking the courtyard, I was woken up several times during the night from people arriving and car doors slamming although the windows aren’t double glazed so I’m not surprised this was an issue. I also found the receptionists to be quite cold and standoffish. The concierge was lovely, and the bathroom and the bed was lush. A lovely hotel but has some major catching up to do.

Great service. Very comfortable room. Fabulous breakfast with lots of choice. Very clean. Super central location. Stunning flower boxes in the windows. My only criticisms would be the lack of parking and the delivery lorry with reversing beepers below my bedroom window before 7am. I will certainly stay again.

Our first visit but won’t be our last! Wonderful lunch today. Attentive friendly staff and fabulous decor and atmosphere. We will be back!

Lovely comfortable lounge for coffee and cake. Service a bit slow though, thought we’d been forgotten as coffees took a long time to be delivered to table.

The worst service from what is supposed to be a 4-star hotel — A group of 10 of us went for drinks for my wife's birthday. They set us up some tables outside and took our drinks orders. Several people ordered cocktails which, 15 minutes later, they came out to tell us they don't serve before 3pm (this was at about 2.30pm). They retook our order for non-cocktail drinks and another 15 minutes later they came out again to say that they don't serve Prosecco by the glass. This was the last straw and we left without having had a drink at all. Would definitely not go back or recommend to anyone.

The food and service are consistently good, making it one of the most reliable places in town if you want to enjoy a relaxed drink with friends or meet a client for coffee. The food is very reasonably priced considering the quality and is always delicious, while the staff go out of their way to be attentive without being overbearing. This is my go-to place if I want to impress in a relaxed setting.

Lovely hotel. Stayed here whilst working in the town and was perfect for my needs. Large, clean and comfortable bed. Good size bathroom with bath and shower as well a lovely smelling toiletries. Tea and coffee facilities were lovely and included water and biscuits. Breakfast was delicious if not a little pricey. Staff all very helpful and the valet parking was perfect given the lack of parking in the town. Rooms at the front have a view of the abbey gardens. Would highly recommend.

Very nice English style hotel, great for couple of days stay. Room I stayed in was very spacious, quiet, had a lovely view out front to the cathedral and gardens. Very clean and tidy. Incredibly helpful staff, pleased to talk with you and offer to help book taxis etc. Nice looking bar and restaurant. Would go back.

I had the best dinner of my life here the other night. (Veggie) The French head waiter was so lovely and so was the lady. I met the chef after my dinner and he was such a great guy. I have had the privilege of being cooked for by some of the greatest celebrity chefs, this was much better. I cannot speak highly enough about this place. Staff fantastic, food incredible, thank you.

Our wedding day was absolutely perfect with yourself s being a major contribution to the day. Sarah Jackson looked after us from day 1 of the planning to the actual wedding day its self.

We stayed here on the May bank holiday 2018 for 2 nights. Central and well placed but overall, I don't think it offers value for money. Certainly, the staff were very helpful. The room was recently refurbished and looked nice but it was cramped and when we tried to make ourselves a hot drink it was very difficult to find a socket for the kettle without having to stretch around under the back of the TV. The bathroom had no proper ventilation which was causing the newly decorated wallpaper to stain and peel away. The one window that did open in the room itself was a struggle and we had to open the bathroom window to let the steam out. We tried the continental breakfast which was OK but overpriced for what was essentially a small bowl of fruit salad with a little yogurt, muesli and honey. The hotel has some parking availability but it is limited. I was hoping for this to be a special stay but I'm afraid it wasn't and I will probably go to the Northgate if I return to BstE.

Just got home from a lovely night spent at The Angel Hotel. Really liked the feel of the place, the decor was great, and the staff were so friendly, helpful & welcoming. LOVED the Wingspan Bar, and the Amaretto Sour was absolutely delicious! We were originally meant to stay in an 'Originals' room, but no hot water resulted in us being upgraded (without any fuss) to the 'Romantics Suite'. It was THE best room/ suite I've ever stayed in, and the roll-top bath & walk-in shower were something else. I would definately recommend the hotel to my friends & family, and hopefully I'll be lucky enough to stay there again.

Once more. An excellent experience. A fine dining and themed wine night from Chile. Informative, interesting, fun and friendly… At the heart of Bury St Edmunds and remains the flagship. Colin and guests.

We had an outstanding stay, way beyond our expectations. The room was huge and very comfortable, they brought in vegan items for our breakfast when we enquired in advance and the service was consistently excellent. Highly recommend and we'll definitely be back.

Delicious, refined meals in every course. Perfection. Fantastic chefs! The most wonderful and completely even soufflé with accompanied deliciousness and delights, have never been seen or tasted before! Wow!

Great start to a two day stay, day one was great, room as advertised and food and service good. Day two meal was rushed, complete with a starter swimming in green goo. An offer of being served coffee in the lounge never materialised. Sorry was a word used often. Checkout bill was incorrect, by over £100. Each stage of this was highlighted to staff with the reply, you've guessed it, sorry.

Took my girlfriend here as a surprise as part of her Birthday present. She loved it and so did I. Not exactly cheap but you get what you pay for. Friendly staff, great service. Underground bar open in the evenings which was a nice addition. Breakfast was lovely. Would definitely go again.

Beautiful hotel. Gorgeous rooms. Fantastic staff. We stayed here for the Christmas market weekend. It was in a great location and we basically were on the doorstep of the market. It was great. The hotel is also close to the town centre and all shops and restaurants.

We arrived very early as we attended lunch at the Athenaeum. Our intention was, park the car, go to lunch and check-in afterwards. But we were welcomed by a lovely member of staff and told us he can check if the room is ready for it. He took our suitcase to our room as we went to our function.
We came back and have a dinner I had black sea
bream it was the tastiest food I had in the last couple of years. We have been also served complimentary bread & butter and some canapés. This bread and butter no ordinary bread & butter. They make their own best bread and best butter. My only disappointment was they do not serve that at the breakfast! Very friendly staff lovely food, beautiful all around. Thank you guys we will comeback. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovely hotel staff are very good nothing to much for them they have a concierge to park your car for you as the at park is small also the bags carried up to the room we were overlooking the Abby gardens and and could see the cathedral from our room it was lovely! The room was clan and spacious they also offer a turn down service which was nice! I can recommend this hotel.

We had afternoon tea which was lovely but the service was poor. We had to ask for a clean plate once we have finished our savoury selection, he asked me to keep my knife and fork (had just eaten sausage roll was about to eat chocolate eclair) thought fro one moment I was in a Chinese buffet! There was no menu, so we had no idea what we were eating, we had to ask for a drink as none were offered! Might have had better service in the Chinese buffet to be honest. It’s a real shame, after 30 years of using the angel as a special treat I probably won’t bother now. We were clearly an annoyance to the waiter we had.

Overall a nice place to stay. Looked like half the hotel rooms had been recently renovated. The room was a good size. Plenty of fast flowing hot water for a bath. The hotel and rooms were nice and clean. Bed was just right for firm and softness. No air conditioning so we had the window open which meant some noise from outside. My son stayed at the back of the hotel and they had a different experience. Delivery people were VERY noisy, they left engines running, talking load and rolling carts down the cobbled floor. Although parking was limited when the hotel is full, they managed very well. We were staying as part of a large wedding group. Breakfast when the hotel is busy was not great. They struggle to prepare food on time. The quality of the food definately can be improved due mainly to them being under staffed in kitchen/front of house. I would stay there again but probably have breakfast in one of the many other coffee/breakfast shops nearby.

Beautiful hotel with lovely rooms, very comfy beds and helpful staff. Staff park the cars away from the traffic wardens too, always useful :-) Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone staying in Bury St Edmund. Lovely view of The Abbey Gate from the front of the hotel too.

Lovely night spent at The Angel hotel. Would've been 5 stars, but the hotel room was a bit dated and didn't match the quality of the rest of the hotel. The food was first class, the bar very cool and the service was quick, friendly and helpful.

Had cocktails at the wingspan bar for a wedding reception, the drinks were great, and the staff were perfect. Great night, and highly recommended.

We have visited this hotel regularly and have always found the service to be very good. Friendly staff — and the hotel is dog-friendly.

Pretentious but poorly executed menu. Food was awful and hugely over priced. Service was also very poor. There are much better places to eat near by.

Edited after the first paragraph. Very comfortable stay however my Fiancee & I both ordered steak and being honest it wasn't the best cut! The steak was £28 each & they were both quite fatty & sinewy so unfortunately neither of us enjoyed eating it! The staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. £14 each for the steak would have been ok but certainly no more than this. I'm editing this review & downgrading the review from a 4 star to a 2 star & here's why… I believe in first impressions, a service delivered to the standard advertised & suggested (if you go into a 1 star place you should only expect 1 star. 3 star should deliver 3 star & so on…), also a plan positive lasting impression. When we checked out our bill was quite over & above what we expected for a number of reasons including 2 breakfasts at £14 each having been told they were included in our original reservation costs. An additional service charge of £10, where does this come from? Wasn't told about it! We're not tight & will happily pay for a service provided it is a) to the standard advertised and b) clear & upfront. My Fiancee then went to complain & the FOH made it rather difficult however £28 was eventually refunded. The Assistant / Deputy General manager refused to acknowledge that the breakfast should be included however he was then corrected by a junior member of staff. He then said 'Ok Harriot will sort your refund' and walked off. No apology!

I was told it was an amazing hotel but it felt very average to me. Slow and forgetful room service. Seems like a lot of money was spent on the foyer to make it contemporary but the rooms need a lot of attention. Having said that my room was very bright with large sash windows and a beautiful view and the bed was very comfortable.

Considering this is a 4 * hotel our afternoon tea (a treat for our anniversary of 32 yrs) was the worst I have experienced. A plastic cake stand really! Everything should of matched China or proper tea set. Sandwiches, if you used 3 slices of bread I very much doubt this. Scones were lovely, but 1 small pot of jam and a teaspoon of cream for 2 people! £19.50 per person was not value for money. I know of 2 places in Thetford that charge less than this with proper tea sets. The gentleman that served us was very attentive.

Top notch food with only a small hotel price premium. Great modern European food in a madly decorated, eclectic setting. Inventive starters and well presented mains that always have an added twist make this restaurant worth a visit.

Arrived 25/01/14. Parking not great, but accommodated. Room was lovely, old and charismatic, as expected. Table booked at time of booking room, 1st table we rejected as put in a nosy corner, but moved okay. Food just okay, but don't expect value for money. Service only adequate, expected to be waited on a bit more tentatively; considering what we were paying. Breakfast was poor, left in dinning area away from main room, no ambiance. Young girl hoovering with Henry whilst we were eating, our area still showed signs of the party the night before. Food and service is better in Weatherspoons, if you book a room don't book the breakfast, best to go up the road the Weatherspoons, their Eggs Benedict is double the portion and 1/4 the price, with good friendly attentive service. We will not be spending our hard earned money again at the Angel.

Good food but a bit overpriced for my liking. Excellant location in the heart of Bury St Edmunds. Very comfortable rooms and good friendly service. Just Glad I wasn't paying for the room which meant we could afford to dine in the restaurant in the evening.
