We booked a family room for one night to visit a university the next day as we live over 120 miles away. First impressions seemed ok, we checked in and the man at the desk was relatively friendly. First impressions on the room, however, were slightly different. We walked in and the room was freezing, we found that one of the windows was open and tried to close it with little success, we finally managed to half close it when I stood on the window ledge and forced it — not an entirely pleasant experience as I was pretty much hanging out the window, three floors up! The mattress on the double bed had collapsed, the curtains wouldn't close fully and the room overall seemed very tired and dingy. After a very cold night, we went downstairs for breakfast which we were, once again, not overly impressed with. We finally checked out and after returning home in the evening, we realised we had unfortunately left a phone charger in our room. We called up in the hope that they could send it in the post to us which we were prepared to pay for but before we could even explain, we were rudely told that they did not do that and that it was too time consuming and expensive, before they hung up. We called them back but before we could explain anything further, we were interrupted and told that if we could 'call in' then we could come and pick it up — we live over 120 miles away, why else would we stay in a hotel?! When we tried to explain this, we were interrupted once more and then they hung up. Very poor customer service and very rude staff. I would certainly never stay there again — it's cheap for a reason!
