Wonderful place to stay if you like a bit of luxury for a city break. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful but never intrusive. We enjoyed wonderful food in the restaurant and our room was absolutely delightful. It being so close to Christmas, the festive decorations really set the scene. An excellent place to stay with so much history to boot. Super!

We have just returned from a lovely stay at The Assembly House last night. Everything was superb and I would highly recommend the afternoon tea, stay and breakfast to everyone. From the friendliness of the staff to the cleanliness of the room the entire experience was one of the best! Thank you all so much for a wonderful stay.

Felt it was rather expensive for what you had and service charge made it very expensive.

The Queens tea was just perfect, lovely selection of sandwiches and super cakes. The staff were great in making sure my daughter and husbands allergies to cheese didn’t spoil the day. Definitely recommend to everyone.

It's been so long since our last visit (2019), but pre Covid we came for birthdays, hen afternoons, pre theatre meals and cosy lunches. The Assembly Rooms have never failed to deliver. Genteel, classic surroundings, great ambience, pleasant friendly staff, delicious food. Our Afternoon tea for my friends belated birthday was Easter themed and yummy, my husband enjoyed what I couldnt manage when I hot home! I would thoroughly recommend. Really hope the set lunches and pre theatre dinners return soon!

Went on the tour today was very insightful and full of amazing facts the crypt was interesting to go down to.

Wonderful, we were only there for one night. But so impressed with everything. Location! 5 star, staff efficient and friendly. Breakfast was delicious with a lot of options, served fresh. Room was luxurious, cozy and warm.

Good service. Lovely food and they altered the menu for us as there was an item we didn't like. The staff were nice and pleasant and kept coming up and asking us if there was anything else we required.

The Assembly House is absolutely stunning, with quick service and friendly staff and has gluten-free options too would absolutely recommend this place to everyone.

A fantastic takeaway afternoon tea with many an intolerant option plus vegan and veggie — plus for cheese lovers you can have an afternoon cheese option.
Lots of extras included and some to add if wanted like their chocolate scones — simply yummy.

We stayed Sunday and it was mainly lovely. Great service by the waiters/waitresses. My only disappointment was when I booked it advertised the afternoon tea as being the enchanted forest, which I was really looking forward to but it was the postponed Mother's Day one. Although very nice it wasn't what I wanted. Apart from that it was a very lovely stay in room 11 which was very clean and cosy.

The Assembly House never disappoints! My husband and I got married here, and regularly have afternoon tea here, and we've had consistently amazing experiences each and every time! The staff are warm, thoughtful and professional, the atmosphere is wonderfully calming and friendly, and the food is out of this world!

Had a fabulous time, we had vouchers for afternoon tea but decided to go for an evening meal instead and so pleased we did. Food was lovely and service was perfect food was well presented and timely. Restaurant room is beautifully decorated and has a lovely atmosphere great for pre-theatre.

Took the family for a Harry Potter themed high tea. We had a mixture of dietary requirements which they catered for expertly. We were made to feel welcome and the service was spot on and unhurried. The surroundings were lovely.

A lovely, quiet atmosphere, with beautiful decorations. Staff are friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea was delicious, with a variety of sweet and savoury treats, such as rolls and sandwiches, scones and cakes. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks available. As well as wine and prosecco. Prices are reasonable for the great food and great service.

Attended friends get together. Great food, friendly and professional staff but limited selection of beer. At least it was Budvar rather than the well known brand of gnats itinerary.

10th July 2008 I had a spectacular celebration here, for beating breast cancer 5 Years!
It was all perfect.
I am Dairy Free and they catered for me well.
Last week Tues 10th July, had a bigger celebration with 36 of us, to celebrate surviving 10 Years this time!
Had the Music Room booked all to ourselves.
From the innitial enquiry, to emails, invoicing, phone calls, staff (Naomi, Emily, Joe to say the least) were exceptional.
A most perfect day.
Again I am No Dairy
& Vegan now too.
And friends Lactose intolerant & nut free
My cake, No Dairy, No Nuts was designed and made specifically to my requirements.
As low sugar as was possible.
Nothing is Ever too much trouble.
I decorated the table as I wished the evening before and other decorations were brought in.
Were also given 2 car parking permits too

I have visited here before for Afternoon Tea which was perfect. This time our visit was for breakfast and it was wonderful. Whilst Norwich does have an abundance of breakfast eateries they are often too busy, too small and often have no tables. It’s too hectic for a breakfast environment. The Assembly house is grand and elegant and each of the rooms have their own identity. We sat down for breakfast, it was quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We sat at a large table by the window and took in the ambience whilst sipping delicious full bodied cappuccino’s. There’s a wide selection on offer for breakfast and we both chose to have the Full English Breakfast. The added bonus I was able to substitute the black pudding for a sausage! Bonus! The food was beautiful, high quality ingredients and fresh produce. Perfect bacon, thin, full of flavour and not too salty. The breakfast wasn’t greasy and I didn’t suffer with indigestion for the rest of the day. It was perfect. I think this may now be my go to place for breakfast. A perfect setting in a lovely environment away from the hustle and bustle of Norwich.

Gorgeous historic building next to the Theatre Royal. We had a cream tea which was very good value for money, endless tea/coffee and more than enough to eat. Ask for a bag to take anything you can't eat home!

Celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday with afternoon tea. I am breastfeeding my three month old daughter and she has cows milk protein allergy. Was so
pleased when I found out you can offer a diary free afternoon tea. It lived up to my expectations and was delicious thank you. A real treat and lovely to know I can come and enjoy afternoon tea every once in a while. The staff were fantastic and each time they brought something for me they said what it was and highlighted that it was dairy free so I didn’t have the usual obsessive worry of having to question things when they arrived on the table. Not many places do this and it made the experience so much more relaxing for me. Also happy to see you offer a vegan afternoon tea as our son is dairy and egg free.

Stayed here for two nights. Wonderful. Really comfortable and first class furnishings. Just book it. Parking included. Central location. Excellent food especially the breakfast. A theatre in the building. We will book here again with no hesitation.

We recently had our wedding at the Assembly House. It was the perfect day. Most of the wedding party stayed at the venue on the night of the wedding and we all loved our rooms. Jamie and the team went over and above to ensure that we and our guests had a great time. We have had many positive comments from our guests about the lovely staff at the Assembly House — we really cannot thank them enough.

We had a champagne breakfast after my son's marriage ceremony and it was a lovely experience. The food was great and the staff were very polite and attentive. We didn't feel rushed and could enjoy the time with close family taking photo's inside and outside by the fountain. Just perfect.

Tasty food and great service. May be a little expensive on the food side. £11 for a toasted sandwich and french fries. It was delicious, but I felt it was over priced.

Go there for the afternoon tea it's one of the best that I've tried and believe me I've had quite a few! Pre theatre meals are also to be recomend if you are having an evening at the Theatre Royal, another venue I would like to recommend. Bye for now.

I booked the Assembly House for my Mum’s birthday on Saturday, and they were so accommodating with various requests — down to an entirely vegan afternoon tea when I mentioned that my youngest child has an egg allergy (jelly instead of mousse, vegan cakes, plain sandwiches instead of the usual ‘grown up’ variations) meaning that she was fully able to join in and had a great experience. Mum had a glass of champagne and a special small cake with message and lighted candle. Attentive wait-staff, and a lovely ambience. Perfect pre-shopping treat. Thank you for having us, and catering to us so well. If possible could I have a copy of the menu as my Mum would like it as a keepsake to remember what she had (plus we’ve been arguing over the scone and toastie flavours! ).

Absolutely the next place for afternoon tea, actually now enroute to try the Sunday Lunch. I always recommend The Assembly House due to the food being exceptional and the staff being friendly too. Love this place.

A beautiful building. Restored after a major fire some years ago. Art, theatre in the round by 'the Great Hall BC Players', various music events, great food from breakfast to lunch and dinner. Lovely uplifting place with wonderfully spot on staff.

The place was nice, the staff courteous, the tea refreshing (I had the fruity Darjeeling) and the fresh scone with clotted cream absolutely delicious — however the sandwiches were a BIG letdown — the brown bread dry and stale, we asked for replacement ham sandwiches as they were the worst, thick dry bread with a single very thin slice of ham, but the replacements just as bad, and the coronation chicken was almost flavourless (or possibly overtaken by the flavour of the dry bread). The white bread cream cheese and cucumber the bread was soggy, obviously the cucumber had been put in a while before and the moisture had soaked in making it somewhat wet and gooey. I would complain about there being so few of them as well but we didn't even finish the ones we had so there is no point! We were also promised a goody bag when we left which didn't materialise — although there were almost no staff left at the point we left the restaurant at 4.30pm. For £20 a head I would have liked much better sandwiches and for the service to be a bit quicker — we were seated about 20 minutes before being served (although it was busy).

The Assembly House is an upmarket hotel and restaurant in the heart of Norwich. There are also a number of meeting rooms available for private functions, and Richard Hughes' Cookery School is also housed here, for individuals and groups to book (obviously) cooking lessons as parties or corporate events. Supper Club evenings are held once a month (in the Music Room) ; these are open to all, but you have to book in advance. A must for all foodies!

Wonderful time spent at a wedding this Saturday! Staff were great and really made us guests welcome. The rooms were bright and clean; the food was fantastic particularly the beef and everyone was friendly and approachable.

You pay for the atmosphere and service. The food was nice but not really to my taste, cakes were a bit too sweet. But the service was brilliant. There was also no choice about what you could have within the afternoon tea, unless you had dietary requirements.

I went with a group for my hen do. Lovely setting but were rather disappointed with the afternoon tea. Looked impressive but some of the sandwiches had little or no filling. Scones were rushed out hoping you wouldn't order more sandwiches. If you did they took so long you had to ask again. Although service was friendly. Didn't like the cakes. Only unicorn tea available on Saturday. Children didn't like it either.

I loved the huge unicorn rainbow cake that you could see when you walk in, and the selection of sandwiches were nice and all the sweet treats where AMAZING!

A nice historic venue with reasonable food and drink. Although as a destination it could do with a little love and attention to the smaller details like the carpet etc.

Sat outside and waited half an hour for glass of wine. While we were waiting it was clear others were getting poor and slow service too. 2 ladies asked if they could cancel their coffees as they obviously were fed up with the wait but the waiter abruptly said "no, not now! " I was shocked. We had no compensation for this long wait and very little apology. The waiter was grumpy and to be honest I will never go back. If you pay expensive prices you should not get this. Better service in macdonalds!

Went here for afternoon tea in a private room with a big party. The service was good although there were a few mistakes with the dietary requirements we'd confirmed prior to the meal. The food was lovely and very fresh and the portions were very generous. It would have been great to have a wider variety of reasons available or soya milk on the table, however I did not ask for it on the day so it may have been possible to have.

Went for afternoon tea, it was a lovely experience, food was good and the staff were attentive. Only thing that let it down was one of our orders were forgotten.
