Dover Backpackers Hostel

Dover Backpackers In the United Kingdom, my friend and I booked this hostel off hostel world. Although we read the very poor reviews decided to give the hostel a go anyway as it is the only one in the centre of Dover and we all know what some reviewers can be like. We arrived at this hostel to no one there, an abrupt quite rude man came from the bar next door and asked if we were at the right place, we told him we were looking for Dover Backpackers we booked a mixed dorm on hostel world in which he replied yes this is it, but told us he didn’t know his hostel was on HostelWorld he then explained he has no computer so can not check us in or see whether we have paid or not, he showed us to the staircase which led up to the rooms in the hostel, we had to lift our bags over a couch to get through the door to the stairs, once up the stairs there was mould all along the walls and window cills, linen stacked in folded piles on the floor along the hall, the man then got another resident living in the dorm room to show us the room, we opened our dorm room door and an elderly gentleman was in the 6 bed dorm, as the man also lived in that room he had his belongings everywhere, we asked the man residing in the dorm about locks on the door, he told us that it has a code but since he has been there he doesn’t use it because they don’t get other guests.

Do not even think about staying in that hostel. Terrible, terrifing condition. I wouldnt sleep there for free. Thats a shame for owner to offer a beds in sth like this. Humidity, stink, in one word just dump. Sorry for this but cant find even one possitive thing.

It's the coolest place in Dover. The history of finding in the establishment… it misses the super shot of freshness, but C is underway… a few meters from the new shopping Centre and its splendid cinema which will normally be near the beginning of February.
This is the best experience and the right place to be!

I feel sorry for the chap who greeted us. He was very friendly and helpful but it looks like this place is on the way to the end. A big shopping centre is being built around it and it looks like it has killed off any remaining business (combined with cheap flights being the mode of travel for young people, instead of ferries). We only stayed a few hours (arrived late and left early) but we would not ever consider staying again. The bathroom next to our room had no working light and stank. The other bathroom had no decent flooring, light fittings in our room looked dangerous. There was clearly someone smoking in one of the rooms. There were signs to warn about water leaks ("Please do not splash in the shower as it leaks into the bedroom below"). The bedding was clean but apart from that, the place looks like it is beyond repair. It looks like the owners have just lost the battle against the changing times.

The only acceptable thing was the room, the hallway and the bathroom were unpresentable with mouldy walls, not able to shower in the tub where the hot water was not working and the faucet was peeling off.

Even if the accommodation is cheap, you can expect a little more. On our arrival, our room smelled of damp mile air. The oil radiator had only three wheels and no more oil, so it didn't do what it was doing. There was no towel or toilet paper in the room. The mirror was on the floor and there was no soap. The mattress has arrived at the end of its time. You can argue about the kitchen. She does what she is supposed to do more, but she doesn't. The table in the common room is so sticky that the newspapers placed on it have left only in individual parts the same. You have to cross the courtyard to get into our room. In this courtyard, the sewage pipes run open into a hole from which it stinks. The location is great, central and it is all within walking distance.

Very clean, very nice (a little getting used to, but really nice), but there was no warm water.

Good simple hostel close to the castle and the town and the white cliffs. The rooms are nice, the breakfast is cereals, toast tea and coffee. The kitchen is small and the bathroom in need of renovation. It does not suit everyone. Enjoy the traditional British pub atmosphere in the castle pub downstairs.
