First and last experience of Champneys to celebrate our anniversary… * Spa too busy — easily 100 plus in there * Breakfast was bad. Real bad. Worst bit is you have to walk past the area where guests are where there is fresh fruit etc / toast whereas we get dust. * Absolute zero policy on towels on beds. There was nowhere to sit…. At all! * The themed rooms were good but again because it was so busy even in the quiet rooms you could here the chaos outside. * Soo many little pre-teens not respecting quiet areas. * Cleanliness in changing rooms left a lot to be desired. * As far as value for money goes — well let’s just say I’m glad it was given to us as a gift and I didn’t pay for it. * Oh by the way — £9 for a glass of Prosecco. Which we couldn’t have even if we wanted one because by the time we sat down for lunch they had run out! Yep you heard — on a spa day! So on our anniversary we celebrated with a glass of water! No idea where or what they can do to turn this around but judging on other reviews I have viewed since my visit — we are not alone on this!

Expected much more from this as a premium experience. The spa area was nice and facilities good, meals were standard and a lot of additional cost items like drinks and breakfasts which were unexpected. Service was pretty lacking throughout for guests unfamiliar with the experience — a definite barrier. Stealth charges added at checkout left me with a poor taste and stressful ending to a de-stress break.

A fantastic place to go and chill. Great SPA and gym facilities and the food is fantastic. All the staff are amazing too. Would 100% recommend a visit to recharge the batteries.

Absolutely beautiful environment indoors and outdoor, very relaxing and great facilities. Lovely food and very helpful and polite staff. Can’t wait to return 🥰💝

Fantastic classes, amazing food and an overall amazing relaxation. Love the pool and spa area and beautiful countryside walks nearby. Also feels pretty covid safe — masks still recommended and equipment cleaned after classes, which are still being kept small.

Certainly not relaxing. Very expensive and a total disappointment. 3 hours sleep due to excessive noise hasnt put me in the best mood for the second day of our stay. I am also extremely concerned that my take home gift will be COViD. The hygiene here is appalling. I havent seen anyone clean anything between guest usage. There are signs saying everyone should wear masks but no one does. This includes the restaurant staff none of whom were wearing masks. Our room, despite costing £460 per night is standard with a bathroom that is so old. No mixer taps so you either burn or freeze. Plus no extractor fan. To be honest I just want to go home to my quiet comfortable, COVID safe home.

Perfect place to come and relax and be pampered. Staff are truly amazing and food is to die for.

Had a great time. Amazing facilities, great service, delicious meals, super healthy meals. Definitely worth the money. It’s a place for all ages.

No seating available in spa, towels etc were being left on the empty ones by other spa users contrary to the rules. Staff didn’t go anything about it. Not a restful experience st all.
Food was ok but very small and there were too many surcharges on things, £5 on a chocolate pudding is totally unacceptable,

Just returned from a one night stay. Great food as always, staff a bit thin on the ground but we had a good experience, lovely room overlooking the pool and lake and great treatments. The fitness Pilates class was great. Have left feeling relaxed and happy.

Very over priced stay at Champneys and breakfast was a nightmare took nearly an hour to get our breakfast and then they still couldnt get it right alway had to ask for somethink like milk, butter, bread terrible service.

The worst customer service experience ever. Staff on site are great and helpful but the whole booking experience, and service to customers could be worse. Booking system is awful and you have to pay to call them to book, make changes etc. Competition is high in this industry, forget Champneys and go to a venue that cares.

Such a bad experience with Champneys not refunding my booking during their covid-19 closure. Despite numerous emails apparently their “director team” are considerate of their customers wellbeing and have to consider their business sustainability. Why am I not getting a refund? What happened to caring about your customers wellbeing?

The salon cannot cut hair but they will try to charge £55 for a 12 minute haircut that should last 75 minutes!
The place is filthy, stained furniture, food splashes on wall, soiled chairs and generally unclean!

3rd visit and although when we arrived very busy… we have had a fabulous 2 night stay — just perfect. Highly recommend Louisa, had fantastic treatments from her this week.

Just had an amazing 2 hour Elemis Absolute Spa Ritual with Nela which was amazing. Highly recommend.

Too busy and not the level of service or welcome we expected. No thought for my mums birthday or the fact she is 73 and had to climb past a million cars to get to the hotel, car park packed solid had to park on staff car park which was poorly looked after and sore on the eyes.

Amazing experience, loved the whole day start to finish all start are welcoming and make you feel better in your self, I will recommend Champneys to anyone it was brilliant❤️

This was a birthday and a thank you present from a special friend, never been to a spa resort before, so tranquil and relaxing, food so appetising and plenty of it cooked superbly, would thoroughly recommend.

Great place for some spa and R & R, been coming for many years and it’s improved as time goes on,
Always reinvesting and doing new things. Always have the thalassotherapy as it’s a must and so good. This visit staying in a Shepherds Hut, such fun, even if it is the hottest day of August — inside is like a sauna but plenty of room outside. Keep going Champneys your getting better with age!

Loved the setting of this beautiful spa. The staff, facilities and the restaurant/meals were brilliant. I had such a lovely time with my daughter, our treat to each other for our birthdays. We both used the Thalassotherapy pool and had an Elemis Absolute Spa Ritual, what luxury, thank you Champneys.

Far better than the last few years. Food was lovely and 5 stars to Aniko and gent maitre’d on Sunday evening in restaurant. Rest of restaurant staff need to clear tables etc more quickly.
Esme in the salon is a breath of fresh air. Always so helpful, friendly and always there with a smile. Definitely employee of the month.
Thalassotherapy pool need an serious re fire. It’s so dated and one of the lay beds has not worked for at least 3 years. It’s rusty and paint falling off the walls and several showers not working even though you are advised to shower after the treatment.
Our room was lovely and plenty of room for the three of us but again need a touch of loving care. Peeling wallpaper, shower head caked up.

Wonderful hen weekend spent here. There was 13 of us and we were very well catered for. Highly recommended from me.

This is a lovely place to go to relax. Rooms are comfy and the food is excellent. They are a little disorganised but did make every effort to sort out the problems as they arose. You will need to be aware of the supplements which can be charged!

The place has some great kids working here, who make this old peoples weird old paradise a trillion time better along with the prosseco. This is not a health spa. I have stayed in health spas all around the world and you are paying for a name on a rundown building, with some ok grounds, with cheap £20 mattresses, no A. C, food is terrible and the massages that are horrendous. Go to London or the New Forrest and pay for a proper experience. I'd love my money back for 3/4days of hell this summer.

Had a lovely day at Champney's! Enjoyed the pool, sauna and steam room facilities. Had a delicious lunch, took 2 classes and had 2 lovely beauty treatments. Everything was well organized, the day spa was modern, clean and well stocked with towels and Champney's lovely products. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and well trained.

There were lots of little things that could have made the whole experience a lot better / smoother. The restaurant staff were very slow and you had to ask them several times for the same thing, the class timetables on the fitness reception desk were not up to date and one of the demos got cancelled when we got there, but there was no explanation why. My massage was overpriced and a bit weak to be honest. I called the fitness desk from my room on three different occasions to try to book classes but nobody picked up. The decor in parts of the resort was quite dated and needed a bit of a revamp. The food was pretty good though and I enjoyed several of the classes. I just think that the amount of money you are spending to be there for a couple of days, there is definitely some room for improvement.

6th time I've been and yet now sadly I won't be returning again. I used to love it at Forest Mere, it was my favourite 'go to' place to relax and treat myself. I last went on a Monday and it was far too busy. Food was great as always (hence why I've given it 2 stars) … but the hottub, swimming pool, excercise classes, lounge beds, saunas etc were always at full capacity. It was stressful. It very much felt like Champney's maximum capacity of customers has tripled and what was once a wonderful place to go to, is now just a place to cram people in and make as much money as possible. Not relaxing at all. I wrote to them as I felt so strongly about it, got told a manager would get back to me and they never did. I do not recommend this place if you are hoping to relax.

Have been here twice now, once in October and again in July, both times were great and the facilities are amazing. Only downside is the waiting staff, having worked in FnB for a number of years I was seriously amazed by how lethargic and disinterested the waiters seemed (especially at dinner time). I would be back again, and would eat there as the food was nice, but would have less expectations at dinner.

After being excited to spend my Birthday celebrations at Champney's this year I was left entirely underwhelmed and disappointed from start to finish. The service was poor in all areas — cleaners coming into our room THREE times as we were getting showered and ready to vacate, a waitress who didn't check-back and seemed to have left after serving our puddings, receptionists on the Spa that admitted they didn't know about the treatments as it was their holiday job and a waiter …who told we couldn't get a coffee as it was closed but served somebody else 5 minutes later. Our meal was a further let-down — scallops were raw and sent back, the steak was cremated yet luke-warm when served (after being requested to be cooked medium) and there wasn't any waiting staff in-sight to voice any concerns to. Breakfast choices seems to have limited since our stay and some food was not replenished after 9am although breakfast finished at 9:45. There was a lady named Roz who served us during lunch who was very polite and possibly the only member of staff showing a good level of service in the whole establishment. The icing on the cake, was being presented an expensive invoice (including charges ice for the rooms — when questioned we were told that we'd been charged for the facility of the freezer that froze the water). We were NOT asked how our stay was during check-out and had to bring up the issues ourselves.

I have been coming to Forest Mere for over ten years at least twice a year and whilst the facilities have grown and changed over the years definitely for the better and it is a really beautiful place I have noticed that there are quite a few areas where I think should be addressed by Champneys.
The grounds are beautiful but I fail to understand why a hedge has been put almost all the way around the lake so that a lot of the wonderful view has been lost especially if sitting outside on the sunbeds. The only open space with a view is from the little pontoon which seems to be permenently locked for some reason.
The outdoor pool was open this weekend and the sun was shining so all was beautiful there — except four ladies moved their sun beds under the only shower so that was inaccessible and later in the day another six ladies crammed their beds around the table where you collected pool towels from — staff should be monitoring this much better and maybe put the towels at the entrance to the pool not pushed up in a far corner.
Champneys has proved to be very popular with overnight guests and day guests and can be extremely overcrowded at times and again staff should be monitoring this issue — dressing gowns and towels are strewn about the chairs, beds and hangers making the whole pool area especially very untidy so used towels need to be removed more often or more signs put up asking people to put towels in the bins provided.

Lovey scenic venue, great spa facility. Food could be a bit better. The cook to order pasta counter was popular but the pasta was a little on the cold side. Otherwise it would have got the full 5 stars.

Superb spa day in beautiful surroundings. Staff all courteous and helpful I have been to many spas and this is the best spa I have been to. There is a room just alongside the 25 metre pool, that has 10 heated water beds to relax and snooze on. Other relaxing beds and chairs around pool. Several exercise classes are available and a gym as well as a bicycle hiring option, but I only used the pool. Treatments were superb and I would highly recommend the 'spa heaven cocoon' with Ericka, a very friendly and excellent therapist. There is a lift from the ground floor up to the treatment rooms for anyone with mobility issues :). The changing rooms have adequate space with hundreds of lockers, only two private changing cubicles and several showers, there was a water pressure drop whilst I showered but it was not major. A buffet lunch was included and was extensive, with salads, seafood, chicken pasta, fresh fruit and bottles of purified water on each table. The central buffet selection would have been enough, but then a chef appeared to one side cooking your choice of his selection of pastas. The orangery is lovely and overlooks a decking area with seating and views to the magnificent lake, which the property is nestled by. It is in the Orangery that you have the welcome breakfast of bagels with smoked salmon and coffee. After lunch there was a selection of indulgent cakes and coffee available to purchase.

Lovely spa. Recommend going in the week as its quieter. Plenty of seating for us! Brilliant treatements. Single lane leading up to country house. I know it's a health spa but they do need to have some kind of smoking area somewhere.

A very relaxing break in beautiful surroundings with lovely walks through woodlands. The food, facilities, rooms and treatments were excellent. We did however find the staff in the restaurant quite rude and cold, particularly during breakfast. Other than that a nice little retreat.

Great place for relaxing to full work outs! Lots of facilities with new spas. Worth a week stay for kick starting good health. Just don't want it to lose its old school service charm.

The best Champneys. Hidden down a private road located in the countryside with a large lake outside the resort this is the Champneys to visit. As with all Champneys the treatments, activities and food are world class. What sets this Champneys aside from the others is space, plenty of relaxation areas with very modern facilities. We have stayed here several times and cannot fault it! A true relaxing escape.

Beautiful spa, stunning location. Really friendly and helpful staff. Only thing to let it down was very tired and dated bathroom. Rusty shower curtain poles with cheap shower curtains is not really what you expect.

Champneys Forest mere one of my most favourite places. The new refurbishments are really great, more unisex places for couples. I go with friends several times a year and we love it.

This is my 2nd time at Champneys and I was disappointed with the breakfast and lunch buffet, staff seemed stressed in the kitchen. Most of the food items would run out and they would only replenish them if you ask, they even served up frozen bread when the baked bread ran out. I would have assumed they would have food ready in the back rather than hoping no one would ask. The coffee area at night was a complete mess one night, cups everywhere unable to find a clean place to sit. The spa and fitness centre was great, I really enjoyed the classes. I would maybe return again but for the price I was expecting better service overall.

Placed in a nice and relaxing atmosphere, there is a lot of potential here. It does need some improvements to get 4 stars from me, including: The saunas are basically just dry hot rooms. They will need a water bucket and doors that can close better. The shared steam room had a leak so was too cold. The restaurant staff seemed seriously understaffed, which did result in forgotten and late orders. Also the constant need to book when you'd want breakfast, lunch and dinner did remove some of the flexibility of the stay. From your room you can hear everything and everyone, including in the neighbouring rooms and hallway. This might not be a big problem as you shouldn't need to spend much time in there anyway, but might get annoying when sleeping.

Spent the night with my partner. The Spa facilities are very good with shared steam/sauna as well gender only ones. There 4 Jacuzzi pools, one being outdoors and many rest areas if you want to relax. Accommodation was good and the food was okay. A lot of the food is very healthy so don't expect your usual full English fry up in the morning.

Nice spa resort in the middle of the countryside. I got a superior room, it wasn't that great — especially the toilet — but who needs it when you have an amazing spa just across the building. The food was nice too, focussed on being healthy. Recommended for a weekend escape.

My Fiancée and I visited forest mere yesterday evening to celebrate our Engagement. The Spa facilities were excellent with a large variety of jacuzzis, pools, saunas, waterbeds and everything else that you could imagine! It was here that the good things ended unfortunately. A very rude member of staff told us with a one word answer of 'No' that we couldn't get any drinks or refreshments in the spa, so at this point we ventured into the changing the rooms. The water fountains in the gents was broken and upon entering the lobby area we found that both of the water dispensers were empty, just filled with soggy orange slices, and we couldn't find a member of staff anywhere. At dinner time (8.45 for us) the staff were very slow throughout, and although it was the 2nd of January, the staff didn't entirely seem to know what they were doing. We had 3 different waiters serve us, and seemingly none of them had had any table etiquette lessons whatsoever. We had to ask twice for water to come to the table, though the prosecco was divine.
With our main, the waiter rudely slammed down the wrong plate of food in front of me without asking who's it was, and when I went to pass it to my fiancée I found out that it wasn't just warm, but hot enough to burn my thumb, which has just began to blister. The waiter hadn't warned me of this nor even asked if it was my dish!

An extremely relaxing stay. There were a lot of new parts to the spa since I last went 5 years ago and they are an excellent addition. Some areas were looking at little tired (the small day guest locker room being one) and could do with a referb. Overall a great day, lovely food and super, friendly and professional service.

I was warmly greeted by staff and given all the information I would need for my stay. All of the staff were friendly and willing to help with any questions. Despite me staying on my own, I was not made to feel alone and was very well taken care of.

Great experience — the newly renovated spa is beautiful, as are the rooms. The food was delicious and healthy. My only criticism is the lack of beds around the pool — I counted and a maximum of 16 people can be accommodated. Nowhere near enough!

Possibly the worst website ever! There is scant information about treatments and pricing is hard to find. It has taken me over two hours and four phone calls to make a booking. Free treatments are only available if you book on line but if you try to book them on line you have to pay for them! (Instead you have to write a note on your booking). If you want to book with a person (and you do need their input) it will cost you £10 more and you don't qualify for any free treatments. I have only persevered with this awful system because I have been given a gift card. I do hope the day will be better. Note to husband: no more gift vouchers for Champneys please.

Always a great stay at Champneys Forest Mere. It was a little busy on a Sat, Sun stay but no less enjoyable. Food and service was perfect as usual. It would be good to have "BE QUIET. SHHHH' signs in the relaxation rooms. Sadly, not everyone is considerate to others.

This resort is in an absolutely beautiful setting, the grounds are just stunning. The resort has a very modern and luxurious feel that is maintained to a high standard and very clean. The staff were very accommodating and friendly on all fronts reception, cleaners, therapists, personal trainers, restaurent staff alike. We enjoyed an anniversary weekend here, we would highly recommened and will definitely be coming back.

It's a real shame but the staff need customer service training. On arrival I had a 5 min wait until someone noticed I was waiting to check in. Wrong robe and flip-flops in the room, these were changed and wrong robe size again, eventually 3rd time lucky to get the right one. Catering staff were a mixed bag, some good and some bad including spilling a bottle of water onto me. Then the food served was often lukewarm or cold. Same menu throughout a 7 day stay and 1/2 of the items included a surcharge. The room was fine although it wasn't until the 3rd day they put water in my room. Time to find another spa I think even though the facilities are good albeit some areas were undergoing maintenance while I was there.

We loved our little break. We found the accommodation comfortable and the food was great. We had a massage, used the gym, did some classes and used the pool area with steam rooms and Jacuzzis. Definitely recommend this place! Maybe a little expensive for how nice it is. It's a bit shabby in places, so for me it wasn't perfect, but we enjoyed it all the same.

Lovely surroundings. Requested a room change due to poor furnishings and level of cleanliness. Moved to a modern suite. Minor issues with attention to detail. Over all a pleasant stay but it required prompting.

Beautiful Spa helpful and friendly staff. Great facilities will certainly be returning soon. Only negative is the catering seem to be disorganized.

Champneys Forest Mere has fantastic spa facilities — 25-metre pool, unisex sauna & steam room, jacuzzi, whirpool and plenty of relaxation rooms with water beds! Female and male guests have their own separate changing facilities with steam room and sauna which also give you an extra space to relax. The grounds are nice and you can simply enjoy a walk around the lake which surrounds the resort or just relax by the outdoor pool. I would definitely recommend as a day spa experience. However, if you want to stay for a night that's a little bit different story. The guests reviews about the room standards are completely accurate. Sadly, the rooms DO NOT meet the expectations of 4 star hotel especially bathrooms need updating! Despite being greeted warmly by the receptionist with a welcome drink, it took them over an hour to allocate us to the right room. They have offered us (young couple) firstly a disable room, than a garden room facing the construction side (builders doing the outdoor jacuzzi) and finally the 3rd room on 1st floor facing the outdoor pool has worked out well. Therefore, if you find a special deal for the accommodation and spa day then it may be worth consider. Otherwise, normal price is far too much for the standards. Would I go back? I like the Champneys Forest Mere spa facilities and grounds however overall experience does not win me over.

I stayed at Champneys for 1 night at the end of June this year. Upon arrival the staff were very friendly and attentive, but unfortunately there was noisy building work (Drilling and hammering ect) taking place as they are renovating the hotel, which was on an off all day. If you wanted a mid afternoon nap in your room, think again. The spa are was lovely, the gym has good facilities, the grounds are beautiful and the food was really nice too.

Awful place, heating didn't work and making a noise the whole night, they moved us to a room which had mould on the curtains!

Renovation was in progress around the pool so there was no room to lie and relax; only facility outside changing rooms were sauna and whirlpool (not jacuzzi). Slow service — 30 mins for tea and cake; 30 mins for a bottle of wine by room service; 25 mins for our dinner mains. Wow we did spend a lot of time waiting. At reception. To check out. God knows for what else. Treatments were ok. Nothing amazing. It's the Ryanair approach that really annoys after paying a good amount for the package. Extra charge for cheeseboard, late checkout; hot breakfast. Anything they possibly can. It's not brilliant.

After a days spa found every one very nice very relaxing yes they Do have work going on but didn't affect our day the pool was lovely and warm clean towels and gowns lunch was good plenty to choose from very nice.

I treated my husband to an afternoon at the spa — it's not his type of thing to do, but did admit that he liked the Thalastherapy pool, swimming and being relaxed. The hotel staff were friendly, and facilities clean. Dinner was also really tasty and low in calories! Nice to be pampered once in a while:-) Thanks to Mr D. Creighton.

We booked two nights, arrived and were told that we would have to pay a further £25 per person per day to use the facilities — believe it or not, it was explained to us that use of the facilities was not included! When we said to the manager that we were certainly not going to pay the supplement, we were told we couldn't stay — we would have to leave the hotel at 10 the next morning and return at 5. First time this has happened to us in maybe 50 spa bookings. Our impression is of arrogant staff, and a corporate "rip the customer off" attitude.

I'm bemused by the negative reviews about Champneys Forest Mere. I've been a frequent visitor to the other Champneys resorts but for various reasons hadn't been to Forest Mere for a dozen years, and then only briefly. This time, I had high expectations and Forest Mere exceeded them. I agree that the outdoor pool is dated — but the indoor pool is much larger, lovely, and has all the comforts such as mixed sauna near the main pool, single-sex sauna (with a nice little plunge pool) in the women's area, lots of fluffy towels and so on. It certainly didn't smell of chlorine while I was there. My room was a 'standard' one and was fine for me. I travel a lot and felt that this was a good room, comfortable, and was kept perfectly clean (even though I was going for regular country walks and found it difficult not to get the carpets a bit muddy). You're very much encouraged to book your treatments in advance of your stay, and they will try their very best to accommodate special requirements such as allergies. If you wait until the last minute to tell them, then I think that's unreasonable. As it happens, I was too busy to book ahead but did my bookings on arrival. The spa desk cheerfully sorted out a complex series of treatments for me, and equally cheerfully looked after some changes of mind during the week. The service was uniformly charming, and there is an excellent selection of exercise and fitness activities available.

Dirty and dated. The outdoor pool is like a 1970 lido. Insects flies and murky. The seats in the rooms fabric is worn out. Treatments very average. The main pool reasonable but a bit too cold and smells of chlorine. Food was acceptable. Needs a massive overhaul and updating. Would not return though.

For a spa weekend I left feeling worse than when I arrived which I don't think is the way it should be. Average facilities, rooms were average too although the food was well rounded and healthy and tasted great. Take note that if you are asthmatic then ask them to change the feather bedding BEFORE you arrive as no where does it state that their bedding is feather. To be harsh but honest I think you would be better off going to a holiday inn and visiting the local gym you will get the same for a lot less money.

What a dreadful place. I used to think that Champneys was the premium brand, but it is far from it. I can only assume that they have struggled in the recession. I attended for a weekend with inclusive treatments. On telling the therapist I have sensitive skin and cannot wear make-up or perfume, I was shown the door with the line "you don't need a skin consultation, you need to see a doctor, sorry". When we checked in we were left sitting in the lobby for considerable time and then not told about various services other guests informed us about. The room we were given was of low standard: uncomfortable lumpy beds and dated and worn furnishings. A Travel Lodge would have been better equipped and presented. I was offered a refund of 7% of what I had paid — this doesn't even cover the treatments I went for but was then told I could not have. I will never return.

OMG, I recommend Champneys, Forest Mere to everyone. This is the second time I've been for one night, totally relaxing, beautiful surroundings, excellent service, absolutely gorgeous food and the staff are so accommodating — 5 star all the way and worth every penny spent. Next year going to stay longer.

When we first got to Champneys there was one attendant manning arrivals and departures. So we waited, and just like the arrivals before us, we were given no information about having to book lunch, book dinner, no one showed us around the facilities, our room wasn't ready and we were given no information about when it would be ready. From all the service we received, there were only two genuinely helpful people, the rest couldn't care about you or your stay. I agree we the two previous reviews, everything they have written rings true with my experience. My girlfriend has asked me to comment on the quality of the facial she recieved, which was good. I did enjoy the moutain biking with some beautiful surroundings.
