Great pub. Fantastic staff and regulars. Has a restaurant and rooms which were popular.

Second time staying here and we had a lovely stay 😄 friendly and welcoming staff and a warm and spacious room. Breakfast was had in bed as we got a tray to bring it up to our room. Will definitely stay again next time we travel to Portsmouth.

A great overnight stay on our way to the Isle of Wight. A stone’s throw from the Historic Dockyard and great secure overnight parking over the road. Dinner by chef Johnny was liver and bacon and homemade steak and kidney pudding, large portions and fabulous quality, not to forget Jeanett’s brilliant breakfast. A real find. We shall definitely be back! Thanks to all the super friendly staff.

Live locally but first time eating out here. Lovely food, great service, friendly staff would recommend. Play up pompey.

We stayed last weekend. Ideal location near historic dockyard, clean rooms, comfortable, extensive bar, good food evening and breakfast and above all great staff.

Went in on the off chance with friends, and glad I did, cancelled our dinner booking in Gunwharf and stayed here, great food and drink, fantastic staff and a great atmosphere. I will be visiting again!

OMG! I wish we'd found this place earlier. Great pub, but even better restaurant. Staff are wonderful and the food… make sure you have an appetite! Huge portions and really delicious. When I'm back in Portsmouth I'm definitely booking to stay here.

What an absolutely outstanding place! From the hotel itself down to the staff and food are an absolute pleasure. We have had two days of food there and it would knock spots off any hotel I have ever been in. Fabulous atmosphere, amazing staff, comfortable setting and awesome food. Very popular pub with a lot of characters. A lot of people eating which I always think is a good sign and the hotel above was fully booked. Thanks again for your friendly staff.

The george hotel is amazing me and my fiancee spent 2 night there for her birthday very hot at night breakfast was lovly very nice will defo go back staff are very helpfull and polite and the plaice is very clean and tidy thank you guys x.

Lovely pub and guest house. Within walking s distance to the centre. Staff were very friendly.

Would definitely stay here again, and will, great location for the Historic Docks, Gun Wharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower.
Only fault was that we had a room on the main road and didn't sleep very well, room No. 7

Great old pub. Great atmosphere and drinks are lovely.

Friendly and helpful staff. Cute, nicely decorated room with a very small bathroom. A few minutes away from the historic dock. A parking garage is also opposite. Everything together at a very good price, also the parking garage costs half the price with the help of the hotel. After I called, the staff helped me check in after 10pm. Would check in again at any time.
Not bad for me but the house is old and therefore bright hearing.

Excellent food, excellent service made my uncles 90 birthday very special. John Adams the chef came out a couple of times to make sure we were ok, even turned the heat up because my uncle was cold when we first went in. Staff are all amazing. Nothing too much trouble. Thank you.

We only stayed there one night to get a feeder coach the next morning we stayed there twice it's a lovely place I would recommend it.

Although the George Hotel is very convenient for the Historic Dockyard and other attractions, it does need some work on it. Our first room was a small twin made into a double, on the second floor up some very narrow stairs. The main problems were dirty mattress which the owner sorted for us and put a new one on it, but to be fair the dirty ones should not have been provided in the first place they were only fit for the tip. There was no mattress protector so if you slept in it you were lying on someones body fluids. The pillows and duvet were very thin and old again no protectors and had a very dirty smell. The mirror in the bathroom was so high and small we couldn't see only the very top of our head, so my husband could not shave, same with shower which was fixed to the bath but the fittings so high meant you had to hold the shower head. Second and third night spent in double room which we had thought we had booked this room slightly better, could see in the mirror and use the shower, but again same problem with duvet and pillows. One window only had one curtain so our privacy was compromised. These are all issues that need looking at as the hygiene in the rooms we stayed in was unacceptable and at nearly £100 pound a night we expected better.

Always a warm welcome and a cold pint with great food on offer.

Very basic but a good central base for Tenby on the beachfront. A lot of older people stay here through local coachtrips. Is ok for familys due to location. Dogs are also welcome to stay. Great bar and £2.50 a pint extended happy hour. Lovely beer garden out back and also area of seating on the beach xliff.

Stayed last night what a lovely pub very friendly staff we stayed in a double room which was clean comfortable bed good size bathroom plenty of tea coffee and little milks we enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant very good value also great breakfast this morning we are planning to come back see you soon many thanks for a great stay.

Was a good atmosphere and decent food. Wasn't too pricey either.

The service was great as we were a larger group, so got table service. The place is very cosey, we were put in the cubby, full of good people.

Cute little hotel and restaurant. Heard that it is the oldest hotel in Portsmouth. Portions of food are big. On Sunday is busy and fast so you can not chill after your lunch. But overall, nice place.

I haven't stayed there but I have had plenty of drinks there. The selection of beers is very limited, but there is a well. There isn't a day board, but there is a well. I didn't notice a pool table, but there is a well. Overall, I think this pub is well good.

My husband and I went to Portsmouth on 22/5/15 for a day trip. Famished on arrival, we popped into the George hotel for lunch. Without hesitation, we ordered fish & chips, as we'd been looking forward to them, after our long drive. We were very disappointed with our meals. We both commented that we could taste the old cooking oil, rather than the fish and chips. You don't get this taste from fish & chip shops. The rather small sized fish, was frozen, not fresh, as were the chips. Why was this, when so close to the sea? You don't go to the coast to have Iceland Fish and chips cooked in old oil. This is a hotel, please cook from fresh? Were we expecting too much? Well, not according to the inflated price — £24.90 for 2 fish & chip meals and tea for 2; £10.95 per meal. I'd taken a £20 note to pay and was shocked to have to add, almost another five pounds. If the George hotel & restaurant is serving food, then surely, it should be fresh local produce. We were underwhelmed with both value and quality. Could do much better.

Food excellent, hotel and staff excellent. Rooms clean &comfortable 10 out of 10 will be back again.
