Poor maintenance, Every thing in the room was past its sell by date. Breakfast consisted of pre packed brioche and coffee in foam cup. Well short of standard expected.

Booked this hotel for my parents as a birthday gift. Massively disappointed with the cleanliness and service at the hotel. Disgusting hotel room. Will definitely not be booking this place again.

Very friendly staff, very comfortable bed, lots of 19th century charm, the afternoon tea was exquisite and huge amounts. We will visit again, we definitely recommend this family run hotel for all visitors to the capital looking for something a little different…

An amazing and well run hotel in the heart of London.
Close to the tube and main line train stations.

Poor customer service, booked for afternoon tea then told we didn’t have a booking. Waited for 25 minutes before any sign of tea. We were there for over half an hour before the food arrived, which were poorly made sandwiches on stale bread. We were not asked what tea we wanted or offered any other sort of drink. We had to ask for the Prosecco we were promised. They poured it and left the glasses on top of the fridge with no desire to actually bring them over to our table. It tasted like it had been open for a week. We were told they didn’t have any teaspoons for the tea? Staff hardly said a word to us and were full of excuses when we complained to them and there was an open pot of white paint in the bathroom on the floor. Absolutely appalling service.

I had a confirmed booking for afternoon tea booked via groupon for myself and three friends for yesterday.
when we arrived, we were told that the had no booking for us. They said the best they could do was to book is in for next weekend. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there wasn't one there! They seemed completely ok with the situation. They were not at all bothered about our situation. I have since got a refund from groupon. Avoid this place at all costs.

Awful badly managed hotel. Clearly no investment back into. Management rude. Staff untrained and on edge due to so many complaints.

Not really a Persian restaurant, average food, average staff, average decor not worth it. Disappointing.

Visited the Cranley for afternoon tea using an experience voucher. Nice looking lounge but absentee staff and apart from the sandwiches im pretty sure everything else was shop bought. Toilets had no loo roll and no staff to report it to except the receptionist who seemed largely disinterested.

I have just been to this hotel for Afternoon tea, which was a gift from a friend. Extremely disappointed with this hotel and will not be returning. The service was extremely poor and unless I asked for things they were not there! No teaspoons and when they did arrive they when placed inside the tea cup! No fizz and had to ask for it. No spoons for the jam and cream and what asked if I wanted dessert spoons! There was a odd number of SHOP BOUGHT (yes shop bought) cakes — when there was two of us! At no point did the waiter ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. Very poor quality service.

Zero customer service to the point the staff were rude. I think I missed the decimal point when it claims this a three star hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The food was dried out and very basic for an afternoon tea.

My mother is currently staying there with my son for a special trip. So far the rooms have been appallingly dirty, they have had to clear and set the table themselves for what is laughably called breakfast, the toast that took 35 minutes to arrive was merely stale white bread. No apologies, no staff. What was meant to be a lovely birthday trip has been made stressful and disappointing. Avoid this hotel at all costs!

In no way would I ever recommend this hotel. We booked a room through booking. Com and had to cancel it a week later. It said free cancellation however the hotel refused to refund the money and stopped answering the phone to us. Unprofessional and disgraceful. Stay well clear!

BEWARE — This hotel has stolen nearly 2, 000$ from me, and is lying about it. Be wary. Cross post on other sites as this is a concern. - I prepaid before I stayed here for a week in July, specifically July 16th — 23rd, at which time I was meant to spend a few days in Paris. I did not get to go. Upon arriving at the Underground station, I get an email saying that 1, 971$ had been charged to my account by the Hotel Elizabeth. Freaking out, I call my bank, and my mother back home to start working on the fraud from the US. I walk my things back to the Cranley, wanting to put the rest of my luggage in holding while I made the Police Report. Upon arrival, I promptly informed the front desk woman that that someone had stolen my card information and charged nearly 2, 000 dollars to it. She asked which hotel, to which she responded “Odd, that’s our parent company, but I have no record of this. ” At that point it became clear that something was amiss, and went to the local police station. The officer was very helpful in keeping me calm, and making sure a report was filed. I will be clear, I made a report to the police, naming this hotel as those who stole the money. I do plan on checking back in with them once we are done trying to go through the bank. I then needed to find a place to stay that night, as I clearly was not going to be staying at this hotel again, and going to Paris at this point was not an option.

Sadly not a great stay. They showed us to a room that we hadn't booked and when we asked to change the receptionist made it very clear she was annoyed. Both rooms were in need of attention; water stains on the curtains, holes in the sink, poorly painted and a lumpy bed. Breakfast also was not what we'd ordered as they'd run out of some items.

Very British place. Out of time without being old-fashioned. The room is comfortable but deserves a good paint job.

Spent a wonderful evening having dinner with a friend. We were required to book because of the special offers in place during that week. Very relaxing, nice atmosphere, and welcoming. The staff were efficient and friendly taking time to answer our questions about the Persian food and other dishes on the very impressive menu. The 3 course meal was delicious with generous helpings and reasonably priced for both the special offers and full menu. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant if you want good food in relaxed cosy and friendly place.

Upon arrival I waltzed in the premises and finding out there is no lobby. Due to our early arrival we weren't allowed to check in early so we decided to leave our bags however they were not put in a safe place and l left with a bad peace of mind. Upon our return to check in we were allocated a room in the basement of the hotel and having barely any sunlight. Meanwhile my girlfriend saw the grim look on my face and tried to cheer me up by saying there are worse places to stay at. This was an obvious understatement. I immediately knew I couldn't stay here because of my high standards my parents raised me in. I made an impulsive decision, took my loss and stayed elsewhere. Probably the best decision I have ever made.

DON’T EVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL!
The Cranley Hotel looked very nice on the site pictures, and supposedly a 4star hotel. Don’t be fooled, nothing to do with the pictures and maximum a real 2 star.
Arriving on a hot spring night, the air conditioning is not working. No solution was provided, no manager available to give us a solution, no other room available. The only answer by the mister in the pseudo-reception was “there’s nothing I can do. You can talk to the manager tomorrow”.
We were in a triple room, they put us on the ground floor we couldn’t even sleep with the window open to get some fresh air because of the noise coming from the street.
On top, the room is old, dirty and smelly. Awful experience that ruined the weekend. Don’t ever stay at this hotel if you are convinced by their fake pictures and fake 4 star rating.

A fairly awful place. Front of house staff were as snooty as they come and fairly unpleasant. They clearly want a sort of clientele that ticks their 'exclusive' boxes. The food was good and the waiter enjoyed banter but the others had pokers fully implanted where the sun don't shine.

OVERPRICED breakfast for what is offered. Room, cleanliness, good location.

I had dinner with a few friends at the restaurant of the hotel. We really enjoyed the food, in particular the selection of Persian starters as well as the wine selection. There are only a few tables so the atmosphere is really nice if you are looking for a cosy and elegant place where to eat.

Staff were friendly and the room was comfortable! However, on our first night the heating didn’t work and after speaking to the staff twice it then got sorted the next morning! There are no complimentary tea/coffee making facilities within the room and you do have to pay for anything you eat or drink that is left in the room which is another downside! A welcome drink was included in our price but again it was not given! But the hotel is situated in a good location with tube stations close by and reasonably priced cafes and restaurants.

Excellent Hotel in the heart of Kensington South, wealthy area of London. Close to Metro station and a few minutes from Victoria Museum and Natural History.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! This hotel is a joke. There is bedbugs in the mattress. The staff is unbearably rude. The food is a complete joke for the price. Bathroom toilet was dirty, when we checked in. The reception did not want to help. I have worked in the tourism industry for so many years and have not seen a disgrace like this. I cannot wrap my head around how no one is willing to help the customer to have a lovely vacation in some what basic standards even. Complete joke!

At first my wife and I thought this hotel to be nice. Quite compact but came across quite classical and very convenient for somewhere to stay after and event at the Royal Albert Hall… However, upon our return my wife and I got ready for bed only to discover short black hairs, not ours, in the bed. This encouraged closer inspection. We discovered more and also that the pillows had clear stains on them. We requested to be moved to another room which we promptly were. The new room was cold as they had not expected guests in it. Fair enough. Sadly these pillows and headboards were also stained with a couple of rouge hairs again… Photos taken to be sent to the management. Will not stay here again. Only reason for two stars was the general service and prompt moving to another room.

I absolutely loved this hotel. Very charming and boutique-y. I booked last minute with the Hotel Tonight app for a very good deal. They were gracious enough to let me have a very early check in. Room was very cute and clean. Great location. Employees were very friendly. Would definitely stay here again!

Very cozy and clean place. Ideal to stay and visit London. Nearby there is a supermarket and 10 minutes away are the metro and bus stops.
The biggest problem is the hot water in the shower. I don't know I could regulate and go on fire.
I also missed a teapot, but I appreciated the bottle of water that left us every day. It had a TV and a fridge.
Some room without a lift.

Nice Old English structure, but not very efficient. Some rooms without lift, English breakfast with supplement, antiquated taps and other small faults. But everything goes in second order if you receive the beautiful and good assistant Veronica.

Booked a last minute afternoon tea for 6. Staff very nice, tea was lovely and hotel very pretty. Some guests seemed visibly taken aback to return and see a "large" group of black people (6) which we found hilarious as we're very British, and they weren't, but hey ho, it's 2017! No reflection on our lovely afternoon which I would recommend to all!

Lovely town house style hotel. Stayed for one night over the weekend. Period decor in our double room but tastefully done and didn't look dated, bathroom clean and tidy too. Staff were friendly and allowed us to drop our bags off a few hours ahead of the 2pm check-in time. Only reason I haven't given the fifth star is because there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room which for a Brit is a necessity! Aside from that, very nice hotel and conveniently located for Gloucester Road/South Ken and surrounding attractions.

My wife booked this hotel on Secret escapes she had got to the hotel before me as I was meeting her later that evening.
Our room was very nice with a four posted bed, I had a shower and was disappointed with the shower gel as it got used up with just the one shower.
We had a surprise call from our son to say that he was in London after his flight was cancelled, my wife asked if they had any spare rooms for that night, the only room left was to expensive so the owner was really helpful and he said that we could have a single bed put in our room for an extra £100 including breakfast which was most helpful.
That evening all three of us meet up for drinks and it was a really nice atmosphere in the hotel.
The problems start because as the evening went on I asked if we could order some food for our son but was told that kitchen was closed at 10pm which was ok but we were not even offered nibbles, and then we found out the extra bed had not been put into our room so the guy on reception was getting very stressed as he said I'm here all on my own and he would have to go and get the bed and put it up Plus's make the bed up!
Later my wife went up to bed and my son and I thought we would stay and have another drink and even that was a problem.
We all had a good nights sleep as the beds was very comfortable, but things got very messy with the breakfast, because of a really good night sleep we didn't get down for breakfast till 09.

This was booked by my sister for a surprise for mine and my husbands 25th wedding anniversary, we was so excited as we don't often get the chance to stay away. She booked this hotel for us all as we was going to the natural history museum that night for a who done it evening. Anyway on arrival we did not receive our complementary drinks we was given our key to our room I was in room 202 as soon as we came into the room we was hit by a very bad smell coming from the bathroo…m (which I did tell the reception about) not only that it was so very hot in the room and the window was open, to my shock the curtains was ripped and some bad stains on them all of which informed the Hotel staff … we set out for the evening and the reception said they would sort our the smell … when we arrived back about 11 pm we was given our complementary drinks but this was only because my sister had rang them to complain… went to our room which was still smelly and so hot we was unable to sleep… morning came and we went down for continental breakfast … the table cloth has rips in it and the breakfast was to be honest crap cheap bread for toast by now I have had enough and just want to leave… my sister went home and put in a complaint to be offered a discount on out next stay which will NEVER happen.

The location is excellent, the room was spotless and the bed was extremely comfortable. However I was very underwhelmed with the hotel over all and the service while polite lacked any kind of personal touch. We were told we would receive a welcome drink on arrival, nothing was offered as we checked in and there was nothing waiting in the room. I queried this when we went back down and was offered water, a can of sprite or a can of coke. Given the type of establishment and the level it claims to opperate at I was expecting some sort of glass of bubbles not a can of sprite! Offering water as a welcome drink is so unbelievably disappointing given that water is usually free. We had booked bed and breakfast and again this was disappointing. Breakfast consisted of coffee (there was a choice of tea and herbal tea also) two pieces of toast OR pastries and a very small glass of juice. In my experience a continental breakfast usually includes toast AND pastries and often fruit, yogurt and cereal. If you wanted cereal, and we're taking bog standard cornflakes here it was £5 extra! £5 for some cornflakes. Any kind of cooked breakfast was £10 extra, given we had already paid for breakfast with our room I genuinely found this extremely again, disappointing. The room while clean, I cannot fault housekeeping, was very outdated and tired with some of the furniture heavily chipped. In summary I almost feel like I have been miss sold an experience.

Just to let you guys know this place is right next door to a hostel, its not noisy only when music is played. Would advice you if you have children you mite wanna consider the rooms on the left of the building as the hostel is on the right. However this place is great.

Attended the hotel this weekend with my mother and we had the Persian cuisine. In terms of flavour, the main was tastier than the starters. Everything was fresh and presentation was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the interior of the hotel and most importantly the service. The entire staff were attentive but special thanks to Ms Dana Ilici who was exceptionally professional, kind and friendly. She made the experience so much better. Thank you for a pleasant experience.

Exceptional customer care and service. Evening dining is creative, flavorful and more than ample. Location is good, and it is in a quiet area. We kept the window open all night and weren't disturbed by area noise.

The environment is quirky and fun. Unfortunately the customer service was not great. The kitchen forgot to prepare the gluten order and had to send out the one person — a young lady who gave good service, to buy ingredients. Things may go wrong but it is how it is dealt with that matters in the end. The young men could have been a lot more attentive, apologetic and informative about the missing gluten free order which finally came about an hour later.

Small well decorated boutique hotel about 10 mins from Gloucester Road underground station. We went for afternoon tea, which was very nice. It was well presented with a good selection of small cakes and beautifully warm scones! Only negative — not enough cream and jam. Well worth a visit.

I booked a secret hotel and come up trumps! I loved the old style house. Very tastefully decorated. I know some parts look a bit dated but it is an old house after all. The staff were so accomodating and helpful which is a breath of fresh air for a veggie! I had room 404 nect to the penthouse suite which I suspect given the 2 single beds pushed together doubles up as a twin room. The view from the windowbwas awesome. I could see roif of RAH. I couldnt switch the radiator off so it was a tadge warm so I opened up the large windows. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I woyld have no hesitation to stay there again. Thankyou Cranley staff for making my stay memorable.

Absolutely great. Great position. Would go again. Staff very helpful. Amazing chauffeur who was soooooo cheap, nothing to much trouble, real gentleman. Would recommend. Is typical shabby chic tho which we love.

Some 20 years ago on a first trip to London a travel agent convinced me to stay a small boutique hotel called the Cranley. Reluctantly I agreed to the recommendation. Since that first trip, including a recent trip, I have stayed at no other Hotel. It is a cozy, well priced, well located, boutique hotel. (Not sure if currently staff knows this but some 18yrs ago I was there and I popped down one morning for a quick bite. One other gentlemen was there eating. It was Jay Leno).

Pros: Great location, near two tube stops. Quiet neighborhood. Nice staff and great room service. Cons: Bed was very uncomfortable. Air conditioning didn't work. Windows don't open all the way. You have to return your key every time you leave. If it wasn't for the bed I'd be much happier. Everything else was great.

I've been traveling to London for 30 years, but the Cranley is on of only a handful of hotels that makes me feel like I have a home in London. Beautiful rooms, warm and welcoming staff and a superb location make this hotel a keeper. Room rates are meaningfully less than impersonal chains. Try it, you'll like it.
