This review is specifically about the "Spa & Afternoon Tea" package I experienced last month. I will start by saying that I have never been to a spa before; the spa treatment (full body massage) from start to finish was excellent. The customer service was amazing and I felt very comfortable. So why have I only given The Sofitel 2 stars? The afternoon tea was majorly disappointing. The food itself was okay, however my guest and I had to share the desserts (meaning we had to cut them in half so we could sample the same dessert). The location of the Afternoon Tea was UNACCEPTABLE, we were seated at a table in the middle of the spa reception area, near the pedicure station. So we ate our food while experiencing the sights and sounds of toe nails being clipped, filed and buffed. Upon leaving the spa area we realised that a few feet away (pun intended) there was a beautiful room with a harpist and guests were enjoying a spectacular afternoon tea. Now I was offended because we were unnecessarily subjected to that awful experience.

Favorite hotel in London. Location is excellent the rooms are fabulously appointed and the staff are fantastic. We stayed here for a mini break after our wedding and we felt so well cared for. The bar has a superb cocktail selection and the breakfast was wonderful. Beautiful grand building but the hotel is small enough to still deliver that personal touch.

Place of excellence. We were delighted to meet French speaking staff.

Amazing Service! I highly recommend.

I didn't stay at the hotel but time to time I go to their par which is between the Balcón restaurant and the fine tea place. The offer a nice range of cocktails in a very nice atmosphere with attentive staff. You can also go there just for a tea after a nice lunch at the balcon which is good way of concluding a lunch. Their tea is from a French teahouse and was quite good.

Prime location and helpful staff. However phone connectivity will be an issue for events hosted in underground rooms.

Beautiful rooms, larger than the typical London hotels. Beautifully decorated and amazingly comfortable beds. The bar downstairs has some of the tastiest cocktails and the Balcon has the best steak tartare I've ever tasted!

A 5 out of 5 for this stay in Junior suite with our little 10-month stretch. The staff is really in the small care and baby got right in all respects: heated meal, a bed with bars with a small Teddy bear offered, specific products for his toilet and even a small bathtub for his bath. Everything was perfect to travel comfortably with a baby:)

One of the best hotels I ever stayed at! Great staff that was extremely helpful with all questions pertaining to site seeing and great restaurants! We dined at their restaurant which was excellent … five star service and food. Looking forward in going back this fall! Beautiful building that was a former bank, we love the location just steps from high park.

Great hotel and the staff and the rooms clean and spacious.

Went to the spa as a gift for my boyfriend, masseuses were lovey and so was the spa — however my massage has left me extremely achey and I couldn’t relax throughout the experience and spent most of it clenching my jaw from the pain even though I ticked ‘medium’ on my form when checking in — couldn’t walk at all after, my bed was extremely squeaky and the chosen scent didn’t last long and was sprayed only twice. Some of the massage was super hard and some was so light it was literally just rubbing oil on my body. We were offered to chill after the 60 minute couples massage with complimentary tea, however 25 minutes of waiting and no tea, the staff were in the back room massaging each other and giggling, and one reminding them they still have guests around but no acknowledgment at all. Decided to just get our jackets and leave. Not worth £200 at all but at least my partner enjoyed it hence the 2 stars! Such a shame as we are local and wanted to find a regular massage place.

Had a red letter day voucher & the meal was superb. The staff were lovely & really made us feel welcome.

The room I have was amazing. The bed was comfortable and very big. The bathroom had both a shower and bath. The shower had a lot of pressure and had a big head so was like being in a waterfall. I didn't use the bath but it was a very large size. I had the breakfast which was a buffet. Had the usual range of croissants and English breakfast food.

Very disappointing for a 5 star. We booked 3 rooms for 2 nights. We told ourselves that everything would go well in hotel of this standing. Well, it was the catastrophe. Room not made in the middle of the stay. Then once made, the bathroom not cleaned. The hotel's proposal: a cocktail for 2. Enjoy. The next morning someone slipped us a bill under the door.
We are charged twice the room while the 3 were prepaid and we add a dinner and mini bar. Of course we had not consumed. We went to the front desk. Enjoy We offer you two breakfasts. Two officials of the desk not speaking French refuses to make a gesture. We had to insist on a restitution. 50% of the price of the first night. Enjoy. In front of the standing of this establishment it is incomprehensible for clients to have to justify themselves and especially claim. Shameful.

A classic hotel, small, warm, excellent service, very good connection (Picadilly 2 minutes walk). Landmark Hotel for upcoming getaways.

High quality hotel with excellent, customer driven service in all aspects: check in, check out, and concierge. Great breakfast, awesome cocktails at the bar. Rooms are modern and first class with all the necessary amenities. Would highly recommend for business and personal travel. For French speakers please note many staff are bilingual.

Rooms very comfortable and good furnishings. Excellent quality toiletries. Breakfast was quite good with excellent coffee. The buffet service areas were quite scattered so it wasn't obvious where the bread/pastries were. However a minor complaint. Some errors with our bill but these were quickly sorted out. Would be very happy to stay in the hotel in the future.

Sofitel in St. James was one of the best city hotels I have stayed in London. The staff were very professional and courteous. The room and the hotel facilities are very well presented and have more of a boutique feel than a chain hotel. It is centrally located near attractions, shops and restaurants. I will definitely be coming back.

Check in was warm, friendly and efficient. The cold juice drink served during check in was delicious. As a club Accor gold member my status was recognised and some lovely in room extras were provided and as well as a complimentary cocktail in the bar. All staff were friendly and helpful, the public areas are impressive and well maintained, as was the room. I particularly appreciated the powerful shower and the Hermes toiletries as well as the night time turn down service. This hotel is in a fabulous location, easy walking distance to the theatres and restaurants we had come for. We had a wonderful 2 night break and would definitely stay again the next time we are in London.

Another 5 star property set in a historic building right at central London. The place exudes old world charm, though internal space is not as well proportioned as modern day hotels. However, that is well compensated by smaller more private options as you move from the central lobby into the cafe and private rooms. The reception area is nice, the concierge is friendly and the hotel is busy. Really busy.

Once again a most comfortable stay. We love the position of this hotel to theatre land. The rooms are comfortable and the service good. The concierge staff are very helpful and knowledgable. Oliver recommended a very good restaurant for us.

A truly wonderful stay, from the moment we arrived. We were greeted warmly, and carefully checked in (the juice at reception was perfect after the long flight from Seattle! ). Our room (222) was very nice, with the hallway layout offering privacy and a greater sense of space. The bed was a bit softer than our own, but was comfy. There was a bit of cranky fan noise from the AC (we mentioned it), but otherwise the amenities were wonderful. The evening treat was welcome… and the variety amazing (during out 8 nights! ) Must commend the staff. They were exceptional to a person… each having the perfect balance of attentiveness without being overwhelming. Each greeted us with a smile and kind bonjour!

Wonderful and unforgettable stay.
The hotel is very well appointed. The entrance hall is the central element by its arrangement. The common areas are at the same level (no stairs and no steps), the dining room, the bar, the tea room, the toilets, the reception are arranged regularly around the entrance hall.
The staff are professional, proactive, enthusiastic and dedicated.
The room was comfortable and quiet with a shower separated from the bathtub for the "luxury premium"
On the other hand, many cumbersome poses: catalogs, menus, magazines, products, cups of herbal tea etc.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of London, the art of receiving does not invent itself. It works, and at the Sofitel Saint James all the teams have understood it and is going to make you spend a very pleasant stay. So thanks to all the receptionists, concierges, maids, waiters, bartenders, cooks, and all the others for the satisfaction you give us.

I think everyone at the hotel worked very hard and tried to do their best. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The food and bar was wonderful, and the reception staff were very very nice. I felt everyone went out of their way to make our stay special. The location is great and the hotel is beautiful. Thank you for everything.

Everything about our stay at Sofitel St James was truly wonderful. The staff were very friendly and always available to help. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The breakfast and the service at breakfast were excellent. The location of the hotel was perfect for us. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and my 60th Birthday, and we were blown away by the gift from the hotel of cake and biscuits presented on a tray with a rose, and a lovely note. Such a nice thing to do and it made our stay very special. Everything exceeded our expectations.

Arrival was not the best, concierge were not on point. (Busy laughing and chatting amongst themselves while I waited in my limo). Carried my 3 bags in from my limo as they were too occupied chatting, so when they eventually did ask if I needed help, I was rather abrupt in my response (which I cannot repeat here). Check in was good, but when I got to my room, it was clearly not what I paid for. I booked a Luxury King Room, it was neither. Bed was a queen, the mattress was old and creaky, the phone didn't work and the sofa was hard as a rock as it was a sofa bed. When I spoke to reception (i had to go down to the lobby as the phone wasn't working), I asked if I was in the correct room, they said yes. I asked them about the bed being a queen and not a king, and they said "a King room doesn't mean a king bed"… (um, yes it does, and it says so on the hotels own website). Long story short, I was room moved around 11pm to a wheelchair accessible room that night which had a king bed. I received a call from the General Manager the next morning, who was genuinely concerned about the events of the previous night. He offered to move me again to a suite for the last night of my 2 night stay, which I accepted. I packed my bags and went out for amazing steak lunch with a friend (great recommendation by the hotel concierge). My bags were moved to the suite whilst I was at lunch and I collected my new room keys at reception on my return. The suite was magnificent.!

We have stayed at this property several times, and are always very pleased. The service is exceptional, from arrival to departure. Staff is extremely professional and helpful. Rooms are large (for London), very clean and extremely comfortable. Breakfast is varied and tasty. Love the location.

This was a return visit after more than a decade. I think it's improved beyond compare. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. The towel and bottle of water (and energy bar) on returning to the hotel after a jog in the morning was a classy touch! (My son (10) pointed out that a cold/wet towel and iced water would have made this out-of-this-world! )

We spent some time at the bar at Sofitel before the start of our evening as a family friend was staying there. The atmosphere was great and very conducive to Friends meeting for a chat. The drinks selection is great and the service was impeccable. We liked it so much we ended up coming back at the end of our night — unfortunately it had gotten a lot louder at that point, but what London place doesn't that happen to? The location is unbeatable, the experience great — definitely would recommend it if you need a place to meet up at.

Stayed here for eight nights, staff very good, polite, attentive, to the region are familiar with.

Location = great, very central. Hotel is very clean, staff very polite, many French people are employed there. This means, that they speak with some very strong French accent of English. Occasionally, this complicates the understanding. The rooms are fairly spacious, but you can also expect that for a price of €400 on average.
All in all I was very satisfied!

As part of a birthday celebration for my wife last weekend we stayed at the shengzhanmushisuofeite hotel. The whole experience is very gratifying. Valet parking, reception, housekeeping, room service and concierge staff were great. Friendly, efficient, warm and ready to help. Our room was very good, we wanted facilities.

We go here for the bar. It's never crowded, staff are very friendly and they write new cocktail menus frequently and make great drinks. Casual but good fun.

I'm very happy in this hotel, location and facilities very good and staff very efficient and friendly. Service is very good, but not perfect. Main restaurant the service was a little slow, I want them to deliver the morning papers, they forget. Room was not finishing until four o'clock in the afternoon. There are some small details. But it was the details of the hotel are normal or superior.

My wife and I stayed at the Sofitel London St. James for our tenth wedding anniversary and we could not have been more pleased with the quality of the rooms, the consideration of the staff, and the expertise in every aspect from breakfast preparation to cocktails. Staff seemed genuinely interested in our experience, and many would remember us after a single visit. It was very comforting to call the hotel home during our trip overseas.

Beautiful, old Bank rehabilitated in luxury Hotel. Exceptional service staff is friendly and the Hotel is as I said great.
Of course it is not given. But it's an experience. Central London has two steps of the National Gallery.

If you like indian food please Try The Taj Restaurant in 10 Carlton Parade Orpington Kent BR6 0JB open 7 days a week Monday to Saturday 5.30pm to 11.30pm and Sunday 5.30pm to 11.00pm.

What a fantastic day I had for my birthday. I cant thank you enough for the excellent food, wine and service, we all had a " ball".

We used the Spa recently and it was one of the best Spa experiences I've had. The staff were very friendly, helpful and knew exactly what they were doing. This might be a little bit more expensive than some other Spas, but the small additional cost gets you a a fabulous experience. I would strongly recommend going to this spa, I know I will be returning in the future.

One of the best hotels in London. Location 10/Food 10/with extra sensorial experience.

I was treated to an afternoon in the spa, complete with 60-minute Rejuvenating facial (very good, although my therapist was really noisy and kept bashing away at the pots she needed, somewhat ruining the relaxing vibe), an amazing jacuzzi where you can see taxis and red buses going past while you're hidden away, and an afternoon tea for two with the creamiest cakes — beware, it's *hugely* filling so make sure you skip the meal beforehand as you'll regret leaving any of the delicious mini-scones or cakes.

Really friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are very clean. And the shower was so wonderful! The hotel is very expensive, but defiantly worth it. You should not plan to get drunk in the bar, because it will cost you a fortune. We also have to mention the Amazingly good bed. Its heaven on earth.

I went to the St James Bar which is very relaxing place. The bar has a 1920's 'Coco Chanel' feel and the restaurant's white walls and double height ceilings make the room bright and airy. Fine refined French and British drinks and canapes. I can't wait to go back.
