Absolutely fantastic food, really authentic Indian food… Nothing like mass produced high street stuff. Staff are lovely. Always remember us when we visit and go out of their way to accomodate us. Been going for 15 years, and even my dad went all the time years ago when he worked in London. They have been around for many many years and that is for very good reason and speaks for itself. Recommend to everyone!

Very disappointed with the whole place. Plug broken, curtain hanging off the railing, was never told we had to share the toilet an shower room, the room stunk of damp, the breakfast was shocking. In a whole the hotel needs a complaint make over not very happy will not be staying there again.

No elevator, narrow stairs, no A/C.

Great location for a concert I attended at Somerset House. Central, plenty of amenities. Simple but good breakfast. Nice history to the building too. A bit warm but it was mid summer.

Great location and prices for central london! The rest is all terrible, we were in a 5th floor without lift, the bedroom was too small for three people, especially if you don't know them. The rooms are too hot in the summer and you get cool them because there is no air conditioning and the windows are small and don't fully open. The showers and bathrooms provide the minimum basics. Overall I wouldn't recommend it, for just a bit more you can stay in a much pleasant hostel.

This place is exactly what it should be. It has the feel of a million stories. Cheap rooms with just enough. Sinks in rooms. Nice window views. Friendly staff. Excellent and cheap Indian food if you get the basic vegetarian dish.

Best for your budget hostel? The location is great close to many things to do. The room I stay at was small. Also, there's no elevator so if you have a big luggage prepare to carry it. The beds were ok and clean sheets. I only stayed one night so I dont have much to say.

It really depends on your expectations whether or not this is a good place for you. Location is amazing, right near everything and close to transit. The staff are friendly and helpful. As a solo female traveller, I never felt unsafe. A little irritating that there is no Wi-Fi in the rooms, but this just forces you to get out a bit, so not a big deal. Room was small, but clean. It is a bit dated, but really in the end you just can't beat the price and location.

This seems to be the cheapest hostel in London. Even with that being said, the management would have to pay me to ever even consider returning for another stay. I was staying with a sizable group, and each person has nothing but complaints. One of the showers had apparently been used as a toilet at some point before we arrived. This is not particularly surprising, given that the actual toilets were often clogged, a fact met by the staff with just flat out denial in their effort to avoid doing anything about it. Two of the rooms being used by my group appear to have black mold growing on the walls. I am not kidding. There was also concerns of a peeping Tom looking up at the uncovered window of one of the woman’s rooms. The person in question was a member of the staff. There are a number of signs on the walls of the hotel asking guests to call the city council to save the hostel from being rezoned. Not only should you not do that, I strongly urge you to contact the city council to shut this hotel down as soon as is humanly possible. Do not stay here. You are better off on the street.

It is clean and quiet hotel. Have been there for one night. Really nice and friendly staff.

Good location at the best price. 5 stars Quality-price. Shared toilet That's If you want something better pay more. We slept 4 friends in a room 25 pounds each 1 night, nothing Expensive. Continental breakfast included toast, yogurt, cereals. The toilets although clean were shared, plus in the room we had a sink, we also had a water heater to prepare coffee or tea in the Room. Curious, cheap, Central. Good experience.

Lovely simple Indian restaurant. No frills honest and cheap for location. Can be busy.

Wow wow wow. Just opposite the lyceum this place is just overflowing with character. Yes a little tired but it doesn't matter. Brilliant Indian restaurant and bar with ludicrously cheap prices. A must visit and stay on anyone's bucket list. It's like stepping back in time to the 40's.

An old fashioned Asian restaurant which hasn't changed in 50 years. Part of the hotel now, The India Club is a wonderful anachronism. Going up the worn lino stairs is like walking back in time to the 1960's. The food is good, too, and not expensive. No access for wheelchair users!

The location is the only good thing you have since both the staff and the facilities leave quite a bit to be desired. We found a cockroach on the stairs and to tell the receptionist this did not believe us, is more, he treated us as unbelieving and at no time apologized, it took us a while to check it, which outraged me enough. The room was tiny, we could barely open our suitcases without having to jump them in order to cross from one part to another, the window did not close well and you would hear all the noises of the street (which were not few), as far as the cleanliness can be said that it was passable if n Or I gave you to look too far under the bed or behind a piece of furniture.

Went for curry and had the thali. Thoroughly delicious. Restaurant characterful. Get there early because it gets super busy. I'd definitely eat there again.

I had an Indian meal in the restaurant here. Whilst the atmosphere was buzzy and busy, I was told after 40 minutes of waiting for my food that there was in fact no paneer. I wonder what took them so long to check? Instead I then ordered a prawn curry which though I asked for mild spice was extremely hot.

A must visit if you intend to save the legacy of the great India Club Restaurant, an old vintage establishment you'll find in these premises… antique India in the heart of antique London, at unbelievably small tariffs.

I liked it a lot. It's very quiet. The only downside is that it has no elevator and you have to climb many stairs to get to the room.

The location is extremely good, metro close by, Central, in an excellent area, the best, the living area is shared with a bar, super homely space, armchairs to chat at ease, tables to eat, Wi-Fi, TV, breakfast comes included, simple but Very grateful truth, the bedrooms are very good, mattress and pillows to rest very well, the baths for the time I went (winter), were fine, but in summer would make me insufficient, one has a tub, the other is normal shower, the bad thing is that they do not have elevator, so it gets very heavy, without a doubt, I would go back. Reception 24 hrs.

Great location very good prices for central london clean rooms showers. Very friendly and welcoming receptionist, the breakfast guy was so kind and helpful (and cute too ;) ) The restaurant not very good thought but again quiet cheap. A very good stay. Recommended for short stay.

The Hotel is very well located. Staff very friendly and willing to help in everything. Small but clean bathrooms. The Room had a spring mattress that was stuck in the back when sleeping. Good breakfast: bread and jam.

The rooms are comfortable and clean but have no elevator. So getting up so many floors tired and with luggage makes the experience unfavorable. The rooms to others are noisy and you will hear up to lad's detailed conversations of the neighbors.

A very basic but clean room with a comfortable bed. The shared bathroom facilities were adequate. I skipped breakfast so can't comment on the quality of the food. Staff at check in and check out were very friendly and informative. The main selling point of this place, of course, is the price. At £50-60 for a single room, it's significantly cheaper than even the cheapest "proper" hotels in the area and makes for a good crash pad for the night.

The rooms are dirty, the toilets common also, the common shower does not evacuate completely, the light of the shower goes out when there is no more movement but the sensor does not take into account the shower space so we finish to shower in the dark, the shower door does not close properly so full of water falls on the floor, no bath mat to wipe the feet and a soul towel provided per person. To avoid.

Cheap, very good location.
From there, the rest doesn't matter to me. The showers are hot, the toilets are working.
Room a little cramped and mattress not very comfortable but for the price, I do not complain at all.
Breakfast that does not dream but is eaten.

The India Club restaurant is an amazing and unique place in London. The whole house has a long standing history as a place of friendship between India and the UK (the society based here was founded by Mr. Nehru and Lady Mountbatten after India's independence). It serves authentic and cheap Indian food in one of London's most expensive areas. The service and ambiance are very typical Indian, slightly shabby and outdated, but just like in any restaurant in Rajasthan or Kerala. The meals are served on metal dishes and the service is very minimal (don't be surprised to find the check on your table the minute you finish your meal). I loved it, it was the most authentic Indian experience I have had in London and would come back any time. Also check out the bar on the first floor.

Good food for a reasonable price in a unique setting. Slow service and a bit run down but otherwise good for a curry with some friends.

Over priced and we did not get our own bathroom even if we payed extrs for it. The girl in reception was nice though.

Curtains did not cover window fully. Very hot room meaning windows had to be open onto the noisy Strand. Breakfast toast and cereal, with instant coffee — nothing fancy. Beds old and uncomfortable. I would not stay here again.

Showers were not tall enough for me to stand (I'm 1.90m). Showers kept getting cold or hot for no apparent reason. The two bathrooms on our floor were also disgusting as there was hair lying on the floor. Our room was small and we had to make our bed ourselves when arriving. Though, it had enough closet space for three young people. Beds were short but good enough to sleep in for a weeks time. Breakfast was simply disappointing. Only cereal and toast and packaged cheese. Hygiene was poor overall. The only good things are the location, which is pretty good, and it not being too expensive. Then again, you do get just what you pay for, do not expect anything more.

Reasonably priced and a simple place to lay your head down while travelling. The Indian Cafe restaurant in the Hotel is one of the oldest in the city. It's affordable and convenient. Plus the radiator in the room worked wonderfully, so cozy!

For the price I wasn't expecting much. Great if you are really only looking for a bed to sleep in if you will be spending 99% of your time out and about. Watch out for the cereals at the 'breakfast' — when I was there all 3 cereals contained nuts but this wasn't labelled anywhere I could see. Otherwise you get what you pay for.

Normal hostel, but Wi-Fi does not work at all only in the living room by time. The location is great because it is located close to trafagar square and chafing cross train station.

With a convenient central London location, this hotel is suited for those that prefer low cost over amenities. Perfectly functional as a place to rest overnight but if you're expecting luxury you'll need to look elsewhere (and pay significantly more for it). The hotel also contains the near legendary Curry Club which offers some of the best Indian cuisine to be found in London. Again, very no frills, but the quality and good value of the food more than makes up for this.

Get what you pay for. Cheap private room with shared bathrooms. Not soundproof (noisy traffic outside, ask for a room away from the road). Free breakfast is good. 24hr access. Perfect if you just need to crash for a night after a work party. Definitely not a romantic getaway.

Really bad. I stay in hostels occasionally this is the worst I've been to. They messed up all over the place, overbooked the hostel by two people and the standards are on the floor.

Hated everything about it, felt like a hostel, it had a shared toilet/shower/bath. I had to walk down and around the corridor naked after a too hot! Then too cold! Then too hot shower. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone! Tea tasted like mud, brown stains on my bed. Everything was dirty. Food was rubbish. Can't wait for breakfast! Windows are double glazed so can here everything outside.

I don't have an option about leaving the stars and even though it says one I rate it at — 5. The hotel is absolutely vile. Rooms are tiny and minging, couldn't swing a cat in there if I tried. The pillows are about half an inch thick, same for the walls. No lift and the stairs are grubby. Wouldn't advise anybody ever to stay there, pay the extra and go to a travellodge.

Very good simple curry in basic surroundings, which sort of adds to the experience.

Stolen electronics! Don't stay here, our electronics were stolen from our LOCKED room. Very suspicious, past reviews show it's not the first time it's happened. Hotel manager was rude upon reporting and questioning who might have a key. Don't take the risk, not worth it. Stay somewhere else.

Cheap and cheerful. Continental breakfast. Selection of teas or coffee. Cereals, yogurt, toast and preserves in the spacious lounge area. Bedrooms are basic some storage space, bed with duvet and single pillow. Small hand sink as well. A kettle and tea/coffee provided. My floor had three toilets and two shower rooms, again acceptable to above average. The big bonus is you are right on the strand in the heart of central London at an amazingly cheap rate. It ain't the Savoy but it's a whole lot cheaper too. In short the low cost offsets the basic bedrooms.

Make sure you have a fistful of cash with you when staying here as there are a number of deposits and extras that you have to pay, including a £10 deposit on check in, £2 for a towel, £5 deposit for an iron, and I suspect many others. Despite this, Hotel Strand Continental (which is definitely a hostel rather than a hotel) has a good friendly reception open 24 hours a day, which doesn't leave you standing in the street in the early hours, and clean, warm rooms. Lots of shared toilets and bathrooms meant that getting up and out isn't an issue, although simple things like clothes hooks would have made that a much easier experience. There is no lift, so beware the climb to the sixth floor! Breakfast was a continental buffet which wasn't that bad, and the view from some of the toilet windows gives an amazing panorama of Somerset House courtyard.

First class hospitality, very friendly staff (easy on the eyes) and one of the best location in London.
