Reviews of Generator Berlin Mitte
Safe and clean hostel. Great place for Solo travellers!
Love this place and all my team did at www. Livejohnc. Co. Uk thanks.
Friendly and helpful staff like Ponas, 1 of the receptionis and even the bar staff.
There was no end to the partying in the courtyard, even though it was supposed to end by 11pm. Also, the common food area was way too small to accommodate all the guests. The food was horrible—cheap and bad tasting. The rooms themselves are tiny, for example, if you want to actually have all three people in a 3 person room at the same time, you are all going to have to take turns standing by the beds while the others wait in the tiny space in the doorway. All in all, I would never tell a group to stay here. If you are a 20 something on vacation, this might work for you because it seems cheap but otherwise steer clear.
Front desk person was rude when I informed him that I had paid for 2 cycles in the dryer and my clothes were still wet! He would not refund my money even though the dryer kept turning itself off saying to “check the drain filter. ” I told him that my clothes would sour over night and he said that I “could walk around on the second floor and find the other dryer and pay for another cycle.
I wouldn’t stay here again.
The rooms are so noisy, feels like I’m in the bar when trying to sleep because the music is that loud.
I told reception we had no hand soap in our room or the communal one on the first floor, they said they would get house keeping onto it straight away
The next day it was still not done so I asked about it again and was told the same thing.
The one on the first floor in the hall was not replenished at all during my stay and they just left the soap thing in our room they didn’t even unlock the dispense thing and put it in, just pure laziness.
There are no bathroom mats or shower curtains so water goes everywhere.
On the plus side the common room is just lovely, feels like a lounge room at home & the south fried chicken burger so good but huge!
Also the beds were comfortable, that’s the only plus I have about the actual room.
Just keep your fingers crossed you get a good bunch of people in your room if you do stay, we were unlucky this time and had some very inconsiderate people turning all the lights on in the middle of the night, oh and get earplugs! Reception does sell these for 1€ if you forgot yours.
It was a good and comfortable hostel but bartender was really rude. She didn’t smile or didn’t look any of our eyes. She just served all the other guys who came to the desk when we had been waiting there like 20 minutes. Maybe you should get a new one :D we were there about 2 times and after this all we just decided to go somewhere else to drink. (we were group of 30 people and everyone had same opinion) It was slowest service that I have ever seen.
Interiors — they are good and the place looks really beautiful. Rooms — they are very small and hardly any place to move around. Staff — not helpful, been to many different hostel but here for the first time where I have seen the staff being cold and resistant to help, may be they have lot of guest to handle but then I believe that can't be an excuse. Vibes — usually a hostel has a very collaborative and cheerful vibe, but this place is a bit cold and not very cheerful. It's not like the regular hostels, where people meet, play, sing and dance. They have quite a lot of restrictions in and around their place. My advice — avoid this place and try some other nears ones, if you just have to keep your bag and roam around the city then it's a good option or else avoid it.
Extremely fancy hostel, outstanding facilities. The guys at the reception are friendly most of the time, not always though. I was told breakfast was included and late check-out was at 13:00 at no extra charge, which was not true. You have to pay for every single meaningless thing at the hostel. Even if you want to store your luggage for only 30 minutes. Believe me, backpackers look for something more than a fancy place. Didn't like the atmosphere. The place was very clean. WifW works pretty good. Location is good. The price is high and does not include breakfast. Maybe it's a general thing in Germany but I think check-out at 10 am is too early.
We lived in a double room with their own toilet and shower. And the beds, apparently, were the hair of previous occupants. In the toilet, it was very snouting with a sewer — it was just not possible to go there. We waited a long time to get cards from the room. The window in the room was also broken, it was not open for winter airing. The only thing that is good about this hostel is Wi-Fi.
Spend 2 days in June there, because our flight was suddenly canceled. Stuff speaks English well and they were very nice and helped a lot. Rooms have large windows funny bathrooms) There is a railway station just several minutes by foot, so it's not a problem to get to city center. On the opposite side of the street there is Burger king, so you will not die suffering from hunger)
One of the receptionists almost refused my check-in because he didn't understand how to transact with my VISA credit card which I used to make a reservation. He swiped my cards more than 20 times (Does he know a word "Skimming"? ) and said he's never seen this kind of card and suggested me to get cash to pay. I complained about the whole things happened in front of me. The card is actually a Japanese card and looks different from others but it doesn't mean it's fake or invalid. Then he claimed YOU ARE NOT RIGHT and we don't have any room for you. His lack of knowledge and experience of card payment made me wait for long at midnight. Can one receptionist refuse check-in in this rude way and can he judge whether someone's personality is right or wrong at hotel reception? Joke!
A good hostel with breakfasts on the outskirts of Berlin. Nearby a good park — Friedrichshain, subway. A couple of kilometers from the hotel, the Unesco site is a modernist residential complex (very interesting if you understand the subject)
Clean, cozy, but Wi-Fi, which requires every 5 minutes of reconnection spoiled the experience.
We had a couple of rooms during our stay here, a large group room and a 2-bed private room (with ensuite). Both were clean and well maintained on arrival, however, despite check-in time stated as 2 pm, we could not check in until past 5 pm. We could, however, leave our bags in a secure room so that we could explore the city whilst we waited. Breakfast is great for the price and the bar/lounge areas are also pretty good. Easy to get chatting with others. Decent nights sleep with a fairly good view of Berlin from the top floor. Overall it is a hostel and you get what you pay for, but in comparison to others, it’s not bad at all.
Not a bad hostel, minuses — lack of normal kitchen, tap water goes separately hot and cold (not mixed), not very cozy rooms.
Fun atmosphere and nice hostel. The bar and cafe downstairs were nice hangout spots. The location was very convenient. The only bad thing was how hot it was in the rooms; the windows barely open and there's no air conditioning. Also the bed sheets and pillows are pretty low quality for a nicer hostel.
My friend and I spent a good time. At the beginning we got a stinky and dirty room full of boys and we complained about it. The receptionist was so kind that he did his best to change our room. The room was amazing and the toilet was so clean. Anyways it's a great hostel. It has a high quality-price relationship. We recommend it!
Lobby in itself beautiful. As soon as you go to the rooms you have a completely different impression. The rooms are dirty, dusty, dead insects lie on the windowsill, no quiet night, unfriendly and unreliable staff.
The separate bathroom with showers and toilets is quite run-down.
The bottom of the showers and the entire bath is dirty, partly also clogged by hair. Toilet cabins are small, it is called very little space.
The staircase is also not exactly clean.
Dead insects on windowsills as well as cigarette pumps are to be expected.
To get back to the staff, very unkind and unreliable.
Two complaints were received because the room was not clean, but the staff were not very interested.
Breakfast is also not exactly inviting.
Buns that were either not finished or burned were standard there,
Plus, the cutlery wasn't clean.
I got a dorm for 7 euro, single bed (with 8 beds in the room). Slept completely alone so it was super! The room was clean, the toilet was gig and comfortable with hot shower all the time. The staff was so nice to me when I needed help! Anabel especially (: Wi-Fi was fast and I could sit in the lobby and meet new people ;)
Large youth hostel. Small rooms, limited meals. Cheap beer.
Good, convenient and inexpensive hostel) ) ) free Wi-Fi, a common shower, but the cabins are many, clean and cozy) ) )
Stayed in the 4 bed dorm then had to move to 8 bed dorm as I had only booked two nights but decided to stay longer in Berlin. 4 bed dorm was fine, but 8 bed dorm was too crowded, and more expensive for some reason. It's a big hostel, gets pretty busy, if you want to go and out its fine, if you want to sleep then maybe book somewhere else.
Good stay in this youth hotel with a good atmosphere but lack of facilities (air conditioning, hairdryer) in the room!
Recommended for group of youths. Central location, close to Alexander Platz. Reasonable price. The minus is toilet and shower room, cleaned only on request and lack of ventilation system and loud noise until late night.
I have been a couple of times. The best parts about this hostel is that it is huge with plenty of room and I believe close to 900 people it can accommodate. Finding a room can be easy, however, I would want you to restrict this place to a day to 2. The common bathroom are pretty horrid and over the 1 week I stayed here, I have seem them cleaning only once. The breakfast (for €6) is horrible and it is better to find a nearby cafe to get some. The windows don't open. However, the good part is that the Wi-Fi just about works in all the rooms and it doesn't have poor signal. The staff are really friendly, which is something I liked the most.
I was part of a field school that stayed with this hostel over the course of seven nights. In that span of time one of our students had hundreds of dollars of cash stolen from their room, a random hotel worker entered the room of a group of female students unannounced in the middle of the night and left without identifying themselves and my room was not entered once by the cleaning staff during our stay (except, of course, to have the money stolen which I mentioned previously). There were mystery stains on our bed sheets when we arrived, pieces of gum stuck to our bunkbeds and we had to go down to the front desk, on multiple occasions, to ask for more toilet paper as it was not being replineshed in our room. One student was told that he would have to pay to receive a clean towel because ours were dirty and not being replaced by the cleaning staff. Additionally, the Generator Hostel claims to enforce an 11pm quiet time and yet the downstairs bar was playing loud music while boisterous guests were drinking and yelling in the interior court yard until the early hours of the morning throughout our stay. Finally, while we were in the lobby waiting to learn more about the theft in our room, we overheard another guest speaking to the front counter, distraught over the fact that they had all of their money and sensitive information stolen from their room. I do not recommend the Generator Hostel to anyone who wants to stay in a secure hostel with clean rooms and helpful staff.
We arrived in our room which was not yet cleaned of the former lodgers (yet the check in was from 2pm and we arrived at 2.30 pm…)
However, the hostel was well placed, about ten minutes from Alexander Platz by tram, and the managers are hospitable. Common bathrooms regularly cleaned and therefore clean.
The rooms are small but comfortable. Unfortunately, it is too warm in the 8-room and so it is hard to fall asleep. Otherwise, all good.
We had 6 people in our party, enough to fill an entire room (3bunk beds) and have our own private bathroom which was perfect for us. It has a parking lot to itself (get there early to get a spot) and is located right next to the Ubahn, Sbahn, and the tram trains. Breakfast isn't included but is only 6euro a person, 3for kids. It has simple cereals, fuit, yogurt, scrambled eggs and cheese and turkey slices. Coffee and teas and omletes can be added alecart. Don't forget to bring your own towels, and a lock for the under the bed storage when you leave the room. Would recommend.
It is a cheap hotel, but it is not worth it. I stayed here for more than a week with friends and I strongly recommend against it. On the weekend we came a bit drunk at 2am and the manager (who is a big guy) came out to the lobby aggresively saying that we should calm down and was very confrontational, even getting to push one of my friends, we are all 17 year old and he was about 40 years old. He looked drunk and maybe on drugs. Also hallways are dirty and the breakfast is too bad for 6 euros. Some homeless people sleeping in the couches most nights. For last, we found a cockroach in the shower rooms. Worst place so far.
So for all those who think that this hotel or "hostel" would be a perfect place to explore the German capital, it is a huge mistake and does not know what quality means.
Honestly, the connection to traffic would have been in any other hotel. The bar was very good for "chilling out" in the evening but the staff was just under the sow and not beginning to understand.
When I was there I was "locked up" with 7 other friends in a room which was maximum for 6 if not 5 people. Not to mention that a cell in prison would have looked better than this garbage heap called the room. The climax, however, is that we were supposedly allowed to open our windows not far for legal reasons or regulations, which hinders a lot when sleeping, considering that we were in there for 5 days. We tried to make the receptionist aware of this, but they said they couldn't do that, although every other room had this luxury of using the window for airing to remove "nasty" odors or air (be it warmth or stench).
Honestly I came there to explore Berlin relaxed and not to have to fight for my life in my sleep.
But who is on adventure. I can only say that to him!
Excellent all round. The piece average girl but just as good!
Our room was still dirty, cigarettes butts were lying around. Bed linen had holes. The mattress was so secluded that I always had back pain in the morning. The closeness of the room is almost impossible to withstand.
We were 7. In a room and none of the Reinigungspersonl has ever come up with the idea of cleaning it up. After the fourth complaint it finally worked out. The breakfast is a joke: there is juice that is mixed with beverage powder and not even fresh fruit (only from the tin). In the evening it is extremely noisy, as there is always a party in the courtyard. BTW: the cocktails are overpriced. Opposite and next door is always happy hour and the staff there, does not let you wait unnecessarily because you have to chat with old acquaintances!
What was good? The location.
Otherwise this hostel is not worth a penny!
The girl in reception was ugly, first I was seen a men who hava a bottle of vodka and scream whoohoooo! A lot od poeple on drugs. (teenagers) I the room we have only beds and nothing more.
Came here for my stag weekend, it has a bit of everything and everybody is very friendly. There are a few bars and restaurants nearby, as well as the bar in the hostel and cafe area by reception. Location wise, you’re right next to the Oranienburger Strasse underground station which is very handy when you plan to go further afield. The reception also sorted us out with taxis a couple of times and they were reasonably priced each time. Everything was very clean and tidy throughout, and it all looks modern. The beds in the rooms were a lot more comfortable than other places I stayed in with a decent sized bathroom and a good shower. Overall we had a cracking weekend and are planning to come back to Berlin.
Room superpequeña, without any extra staff justito treatment.
The visit took place as part of a school trip. We were there one night. Although we booked them, there were no towels in the rooms, an extra charge of €2 per towel was required. The breakfast in the room was very cramped and comfortable. The buffet was very well equipped. Despite the small selection, you have become fed up. The location of the hotel is great! There is also a bar adjacent to the hotel for entertainment in the evening. In effect, a stay that was fine for this short period of time. I would not recommend a longer stay.
Ideal for young people. Not very close to the center but with tram stop very close. Small and clean rooms.
So for the price really good, here and there some dirt stains, which one has but reported at the reception and then they were quickly gone again. Food was also okay, but as I said, for someone who claims more, should invest some extra money for it and then prefer to take a hotel.
Basic. If you're looking for a cheap bed and don't care to much about noise, cleanliness and comfort. Renevations were underway during my stay. Not much going in in the immediate vicinity. Close to Alexanderplatz though.
It doesn't look good.
No soap.
Dirty showers.
Filthy bedding. With dead mosquitoes.
Chewing gum sticking to the beds.
Normal as in modern European dorm.
Beautiful hotel and ideally located near Mont Blanc with view from the pool. Luxury hotel with full services. Nice and spacious rooms with mountain type decoration. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Only downside: nothing nearby.
1 star for the bar which was really pleasant.
The rest, however, was a catastrophe.
Rooms with mildew, Windows did not go on (supposedly forbidden but strange that the other guests could open their windows).
The staff at the front desk were rude & also not helpful.
After several complaints that there was bad air in the room, nothing was done except last night.
We stayed only one night but the place looked nice. Has as the only space large common patio outside with a sculpture. The rooms are bastaaaaante adjusted, in the quarter quadruple had two twin bunks with very little space between them but each one had a charger of cell in the header. In the drawers of saved suitcases and backpacks not the system worked to be able to close them with a lock.
Very friendly and helpful staff Good breakfast.
Very well it is very close to all the sites.
Excellent and beautiful hostel. Very clean, well located, the neighborhood is beautiful with many restaurants and bars in the surrounding area. Would return without thinking about it :)
Absolutely barbaric. If you could imagine the worst hostel with ultra small rooms, dirty/wet floor all the time and 30 min queue to check-in — that's Generator Hostel. I've been there for three days with friend. Room 2 x 3.5 meter, bunk bed, stainless sink, small mirror, door, window. That's all. What's funny, there wasn't even one chair and if you try to sit on the bed, you will hit your head with the upper bed. I can't recommend this place — frankly — t's a nightmare. Even if you're looking for cheap hostel, it's much better to choose something else.
As for me, this hostel is super-cool. The atmosphere, people are great. Especially Australian guy on the reception. The breakfast was the best I ever had in the hostels! Pick up for the Free Walking tour was also great idea! And all these for reasonable price.
Clean and comfortable space with power sockets at each bed. The front desk staff were amazing — I made a fair few adjustments and extensions to my booking and they were always super helpful and accommodating.
The best hotel in town without hesitation, good experience, the staff was great and gave us tips for restaurants / bars. Thank you very much.
Perfect hostel, perfect staff, well place in Berlin and very good decorations! I advise without hesitation.
Excellent location (near bus/tram and some supermarket), small but clean and welcoming rooms, helpful and friendly staff.
Compared to other generator hostels (and also to other Berlin hostels), I did not find this store outstanding. Check in was very listless. The rooms are huge (yet every centimeter crammed with beds). Little acoustic insulation. Therefore, even with earplugs, you can hear every snoring. Besides, the cleanliness was so la la.
Breakfast is too expensive for the bid. Maybe I was there too late, though, and I was charged the full price for some baguette and cream cheese with cucumbers.
The bathrooms are very small and unless you request they don't clean it up. The towels are alquilam in reception. For the rest great care and treatment exceptional and the beds very comfortable. If you are very tall be careful that the beds are bunk beds with wooden head and feet type cajon and maybe not quepas.
Clean, comfy, affordable. Has a lovely bar, does breakfast, even a games area! Couldn't ask for better transport links, there's a convenience store round the corner, and the staff are all so friendly. Only thing to be wary of is the walls are a little bit on the thin side. If you're looking for a quiet night and the room next to you isn't, you're likely to hear quite a bit of noise. Other than that, couldn't fault it!
Room has the limit of unsanitary, unworldly meal, there are people who smokes in the toilets and showers that are not clean, too much noise at night because the walls are papier mache, there is only the bar which is still nice but it is very expensive, moreover there is a great lack of staff and I recall that this "hostel" has 700 rooms!
Finally, it's a huge disappointment! I wouldn't recommend it.
The guy with the bonnet is boring the beds are rusty the food is infame positive Point possibilities to die suicidally Starfoulha I would come back AP cousin.
Basic rooms. Amazing staff. Good breakfast. Very close to the tram lines. Definitely coming back again!
We live close to the hostel in Berlin and needed a place to sleep as our apartment could not be entered after a burglary attempt.
We went with this information to the generator hostel, where we were told that there were free beds. However, we are not allowed to stay there because we have a residence in Berlin. It was said that in the past guests from Berlin turned out to be thieves, there is this House rule which we should also respect in this emergency situation.
A written consultation of these discriminatory rules was not granted to us on demand. We will now turn to the competent authority, as this is a violation of the Equal Treatment Act.
Fantastic structure, you can also avoid going out in the evening, there is everything there. Structure managed by young people all very friendly I will happily return.
I was satisfied in every generator in Europe and always mega. Bar, cool people, helpful staff and clean comfortable rooms.
We had booked a double room with shared bathroom. The room was clean and very spartan. A few hooks on the walls or a chair would have been very helpful. Apart from the two beds, there were only two lockers for storing something. The sink was only used for brushing teeth, a cat wash was difficult, hair washing impossible as there are separate faucets for hot and cold water. The shared bathroom was in a catastrophic state. On every second floor were the bathrooms closed (due to renovation? ) so we had to go to the toilet or shower on a neighbouring floor. The toilet cabins were so small that normally large people come to the door with their knees. Unfortunately, all the toilets were unusable dirty, so you had to avoid the toilet on the next floor. In addition, despite smoking bans, the toilets were often smoked. The showers were adequate.
Affordable hostel, clean and normal for such a price.
This hostel is very popular with young travellers as it is really quite central and not too expensive for that. However, it should be noted that one is located in dormitories, where different genders also stay together. The cleanliness is fine and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered is not comparable to other buffets, but you still get full.
The equipment was in accordance with the specs and the price/performance ratio was fine. The reception was very friendly and the check in went fast and uncomplicated. It was clean and the breakfast goes for 1-2 days then I also need more variety. It is a short walk to the S-Bahn and from there you can easily reach any destination.
Unfortunately, the beds were filthy with blood and pubic hair. And otherwise it resembled a prison, the rooms. Food was rather poor, not gewürtzt and tasteless. Would recommend only if you want to sleep and not eat.
The rooms are simple but that's not really a big problem since me and my friends only used the room for sleeping. What bothers me the most however is that the bathroom is super tiny im talking 1 square meter and the shower head is so low I had to bend over to wash my hair. There was also a brown stain on my pillow underneath the pillowcase. Overall an okay experience but please atleast make the showerhead taller. Im 1, 80 high and im way taller than the showerhead…
Great hostel, do not come with family or with baby or with old people.
Very friendly hostel. Inexpensive, with a nice living and meeting space, as well as clean and functional rooms. Perfect when looking for a place to sleep at lower cost.
Excellent hostel, location far away but accessible by transportation system easily.
In the room there was no table and chairs also no closet. Had to sit on grid boxes because we as adults did not fit under the bunk beds. The hallway was pretty dirty. Really only endure for one night. The breakfast was very good.
The best hostel where I've been. The area is great because you can get everywhere by foot easily, and if you don't have public transportation less than 1 min. Cleaning right, price perfect, the bar is great with a lot of ambientillo cosmopolitan… the truth is that I can't complain about anything, the experience was perfect.
You get what you pay for with a hotel like this. The room was small and the ultra tiny bathroom was leaking stinky suspicious water. The shower stall was coffin like. They had a diner type area that offered happy hour that was closed the entire time we were there. On a tuesday night we were there 2 busloads of 14-18 year old kids checked in and we spent the whole night and early morning listening to them scream in the hallways and drunkenly slam their doors. Every single one slammed their doors, it was like some kind of bizarre ritual. Would not recommend.
Hostel level! Inexpensive if you have no big demands. Otherwise recommended.
This is the hotel where everything is paying even the shower gel to tell you…
For the towel you have to deposit a bond like, never seen that in my life.
The corridors are long on the ground floor, it's like a train station waiting for the train.
The rooms are microscopic and elaborated to put the maximum of person in volume worthy of a local derisory.
Toilets are common.
The showers are common but open by a simple curtain, so go and find out if someone is not going to get you in.
I reserve but I'm afraid to get mugged.
For a night of emergency it passes, if more night, see elsewhere.
Clean. Fresh and youthful atmosphere. Nice room. They don't let food or water up to the room. Towels and sheets without paying plus. Heating. Very well.
Absolutely live up to the expectations: essential, informal, beautiful area also convenient for travel, and cheap that does not spoil. Highly recommended if you do not have particular claims.
Great location with the S-bahn right next to the building. Great service, hot water showers, breakfast available. Been in Berlin twice and stayed at the Generator hostel both times. Recommended!
It was a pleasant experience. Great staff and superb amenities. Maybe only thing lacking lack microwaves for people really looking to save money.
For like over 30 rooms, there are 4 toilets and 4 showers. Showers look gross, water doesn't want to drain, curtains are ripped. There are no table of any kind in the rooms, power sockets are only on one side of the room, so if you're using bed next to the other wall you need extension cable, which obviously isn't provided. Rooms are pretty clean and beds are ok, that's why I'm rating it with 2 stars.
Very clean and organized. The bathrooms are nice and the rooms also. It's No longer a Hostel.
Very very good, clean, quiet. Perfect.
It's a hostel. Anyone who wants to sleep well and cheap in Berlin is perfectly right here. If what is missing in the rooms or it is dirty simply tell the reception and it will be taken care of immediately. Staff very friendly. Overall it is a super hostel and only recommended.
Neat and clean enough for a youth hostel. The structure is not particularly beautiful but on one side it overlooks the velodrome and then towards the city center.
The structure is quite quiet, and the garden area (although not particularly valuable) allows you to enjoy the rest outdoors during the day, and pleasant Happy-Hour in the evening.
A stylish hostel with nice staff. Rooms are nicely and purposefully furnished and clean. The food was delicious. Happy again.
Excellent hostel with a great atmosphere. They have a good bar and all ambients are very clean. However the room's cleanses left a lot to be desired. I stayed in a 8 beds room and after 3 days with nobody going there to clean, I had to ask to the reception to send someone. Despite this… the room is good. They have a comfortable bed and a hot shower.
I did not like! Definitely prefer a hotel. It is more suitable for backpackers!
A Hostel that is very cool and organized. Super clean, agile, the beds are much more large and comfortable than most hostels, the cafe, the bar, the place to get together spaces are super well designed, comfortable, comfortable, and is very well connected with all public transport. Moreover in the surroundings there are all the meal deals and a kiosk well-stocked front I think that except for the kitchen that I didn't see that you have is more than what can be expected. In addition to spaces both bathrooms, rooms and common areas are super spacious and comfortable.
Very friendly staff, lots of room to share and enjoy entertainment rooms, a comfortable place, clean, nice, and full of things to do, also very good communication trains, perfect tram to do things. There is also room to leave baggage. I'll be back for the Generator, thanks very happy. 'll.
Normal place, matching price and quality. We were in a room with a split. Beds and inside the shower with a toilet, shower equipped a little uncomfortable, at the belly level switch water and during the reception shower often inadvertently turned off themselves, and the shower head is short and could not move away. The pillows are very thin, asked and given more, in the room the heat radiator, for things there is little space and for two there is no closet, there is a type of hallway 50cm and 4 hangers… It is forbidden to smoke at all, everyone goes out on the street, a fine of 100euro, you can not bring food. There was a problem with the Internet applications Skype, Facebook, we were explained that it is necessary to adjust it through the browser and Google something there because of the other country. Towels change at request and bed. There were two bottles of water, tual. Paper and a little soap in the room.
Small room and bathroom mignon, but everything very clean warm and cozy, a TV in the room would have been convenient. Breakfast minimal, almost all salty, to have some sweet additions you have to pay a surcharge. Towels are not changed daily. For the price anyway okay so.
Very convenient location, front meter. Reception 24h; Good breakfast Clean and spacious rooms. Shared bathroom. Free parking available. A very small room guarded for luggage. Recommended.
MUST STAY AT HOSTEL! This is the best hostel I have ever stayed at anywhere in the world. It has amazing rooms! Great food! Lively art gallery and bar! The hostel puts on great events (sport watching events for the World Cup were epic) and the place is filled with young, friendly, people and you can easily make a new friend or two while staying here! The staff is also amazing and can easily become one of those friends you make. Place also has great drink selection and is very close to public transportation. Definitely stay here if you're considering a hostel!
Clean Hostel, good atmosphere, with option to breakfast, also has a Bar, entertainment area. Self-service machines, for drinking coffee, water, sandwich, etc. It is 6 stops in Tram, Alexanderplatz. They don't charge the sheets when you arrive and the rooms are pretty clean. The Wi-Fi is free and with good sign on all the facilities.
Hostel acceptable price good and well connected (the station of the Sban is 2 steps) not very clean and the staff is not very courteous.
Excellent hostel. Rooms comfortable and clean. The people of the reception with very good vibes always willing to advise you with whatever you need. Very good breakfast and bar.
Nice clean rooms, friendly reception. For a small amount you can take a towel or buy a hygienic accessory. We had a bathroom and a hairdryer (female room for six)
Good price for what they offer. The room was clean and the heating went too well. The shower was a little bit. The private rooms with bunk beds for 4-6 people do not include towels even if you put that are private rooms. (confuses on the web).
Room was clean and big. We got a 6 bed private room but were not provided towels as they stated on the booking details so we had to pay for them because we didn't bring any. Access to the hotel entrance is hidden, very hidden if you come from the train station or other streets. Tiny showers, should be bigger.
Very good reception and atmosphere, I lack towels in the room, as on the web they had available.
In a small group we had a 4-man shape for ourselves together, positively surprised I was by private loo and shower for our room alone. Very centrally located, you can get to the Brandenburg Gate by S-Bahn or tram to Hackeschen Markt in a matter of minutes or to the Alexanderplatz tamper TV Tower in less than 10 minutes. The bunk beds in the 4-room impressed with their built-in 2-seed-in sockets, shelves and LED reading light.
The reception is great! The room is clean and the bathrooms are shared. It is a good place to stay. I recommend.
Simple clean efficient! Ideal for a week end with family or friends!
Really liked this hostel. Rooms were compact, but clean, and had what we needed — and the beds are nice and comfy. My sole complaint is that it got a little too warm lying under the duvet at night. Other than that, spot on, and will be back…
Wow, what an experience! Blows every other hostel our of the water. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, the bar was well stocked, and though I didn't eat there, I heard great things from my roommates. The facilities are clean and spacious, and having a bathroom to every dorm room was awesome. I highly recommend this place, can't wait to return!
Great hostel. It's clean and the staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is great and the location is very convenient. There are some nice restaurants and a few bars in walking distance. Best to rent a bike from the hostel, though, and find your way around the city from there. The only negative point is that the rooms are tiny and where the design of the hostel is quite modern and fancy, the rooms are more like a concrete box.
A bit pricy for a hostel, but I guess that's just Berlin. Location in city centre is very good. Rooms are clean, quiet at night. Only the breakfast could be improved. Basic breakfast is nothing, premium breakfast we didn't try since they told us you had to make a reservation for that if you're in a group.
Cool vibe and fantastic people. On site bar with good selection of beers. You can take tours and go on pub crawls. You'll have a great time both if you are and aren't into partying.
Great hostel. A large apartment building has been converted into this hostel, which includes a bar, breakfast cafe and lounge area on the ground floor. All-female rooms are available. Bathrooms in each room were clean and newly renovated. Each bunk comes with an outlet for convenient charging. Free Wi-Fi. Wheelchair accessible, including elevators and some modified bathrooms. Conveniently located near the U6 Oranienburger station or M5 tram. Five minutes walk to the edge of downtown. Located in a fun neighbourhood with lots of great restaurants nearby (street gets loud at night). 5/5 if this hostel didn't charge significantly extra money to be in an all-female room instead of co-ed.
This is a large out of the way hostel and has pleasant social areas. The location was very convenient, with easy access to the Berlin center. The lift was always busy and had to wait 5 — 10 min to go up and down. The room was noisy. For a short stay is okay.
Mostly friendly staff, the atmosphere here is laid back and friendly, however the cafe leaves a lot to be desired with limited availability of their listed menu items, slow service and very hit or miss food. Though the coffee is lovely and is fine for a quick bite if you're stuck. The bar is lively and well priced and the private rooms functional if a bit small, though larger luxury rooms are available. Would recommend for a premium hostel experience, with ample opportunity to socialize with travelers from all over the world.
Best hostel that I been so far! Great location with easy access to public transportations and local restaurants. Room that I shared with my friends was nice, cozy, warm and clean. Members of staff were very lovely, helpful and great people to speak to. Went around Christmas time. They were very professional and definitely got the Christmas spirit at work, making our staying even more memorable. Recommend this hostel to everyone, especially to young people that are looking for a good and fun time in Berlin.
It's a hostel, and it does it very well. Each room of eight beds is only accessable by key card, giving me some sense of security. There are also lockable storage bins beneath each bed, although it seem that you'd need to being your own lock, or maybe request one at the front desk. Everyone I've interacted with at the front desk has fluently spoken English, German, and Russian.
Everything is clean, friendly staff, lots of guests, the room is very quiet despite the noise from the first floor. Public transport is nearby.
The hostel is easy to get to, adequate prices. Comfortable single rooms. Of the cons — thin walls, because of which the sound is poorly insulated and not enough clean washstand (In my room was so). Be sure to report the problems to the staff, the guys are very responsive and always ready to help.
Good location with S barn and a main train station very close, also the tram is so wonderful and is literally right outside. Wifi was a bit poor, but did the trick. Rooms could be larger but were always kept so clean. Staff were helpful.
Friendly staff, great bar. Rooms are fine although a towel rack in the bathroom would be nice. Very happy with my time there. Visited twice now.
Unfortunately expensive for what it is, it looks more like a large resort than a hostel. The rooms are clean but tiny (you cannot move when one opens his locker). I stayed 2 days and then I found another hostel around the corner : less expensive and incomparable in term of quality / ambience and personal advice on the activities, smiling. :) )
Location is great for the museums and historic sites especially Third Reich and Cold War stuff. Service people couldn't have been any friendlier. Our room did have a bit of a bad smell to it that we couldn't seem to get rid of (it went away when we opened the windows but came back anytimw the room was closed) but I'm assuming that would just be something our particular room and not a feature of the hostel. Would definitely come back.
Great hostel with a cool vibe. I visited around Christmas time so it wasn't too crowded. But met some cool people at the hostel and made a few friends. Great location doesn't hurt. I would recommend it.
Great location. Trams and s bahn just 10 seconds to the right and u bahn a couple minutes away on the left. Decent breakfast buffet in mornings. Beds are comfortable but a bit squeaky whenever someone moves. Good source of information brochures in the check in lobby. Check in was quick and rooms were easy to find. They have a nice bar and cafe in hostel.
Cheap, good hostel.
Convenient.
Super and, above all, nice Service, very modernly furnished and kept clean. The reception is open around the clock, and the Bar is also highly recommended (but has unfortunately closed "only" until 2pm. The location is super, very close to the city centre and several S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations in the environment. Walls are relatively thin and noisy. The rooms are a bit small and without a TV or closets. Otherwise, very satisfied. Well-suited for study trips or short trips. If you have before but a bit longer on the day at the Hotel stop is not so very suitable.
A large hostel complex that offers standard hostel rooms. It is more expensive than St. Christopher's for example, but also offers a different experience. This hostel offers a bar, a cafe, a reading area, a dining area, and a chillout area (by the reception). The decor is somewhat hipster, with a lot of bare wood furniture and exposed lighting. It is quite nice, actually — check out some of the pictures. I have not tried the breakfast, so I cannot comment; however, at 6.50 EUR (payable at reception, or 5 EUR if you book it with your reservation) it is quite pricey, and provokes the question whether it's worth it or not to find breakfast elsewhere.
For being a hostel and having paid€ 29 per night including breakfast is more than acceptable. Clean, the people at the reception friendly and available at any time. The rooms. Yes they are small. You have to play well to fit. But what we need to stay in the room? Then you can bear it. I would go back there immediately!
I had high expectations following the excellent experience in Amsterdam generator.
Unimpressed that inspite of food staying on website to be served until 11pm, we arrived after a very stressful journey at 8.30 and were told kitchen wasn't doing food.
Also needs to update beds to having USB ports and the handy net pockets on the sides for your small items.
Not as good as Amsterdam generator, but clean, friendly and good value for money.
Also great coffee.
The best hostel I have stayed at in Berlin and around Germany. Very lively. Lots of people looking to socialize and meet others. If you're looking for a place with a great 20-30 vibe, where you can have fun while getting to know the city, this is it.
The counter staff where very helpful. Check-in was quick and simple. Our room was clean and neat with large windows. But very small, with little more than room to dress. Breakfast was pretty crowded at 8, when we decided to go down, but didn't take too long. The food was simple European fare: cold cuts and buns, plain cereal, (they should remind folks they're eggs are soft boiled in Europe messy if you don't know) some fruit. The location was good, right off the tram and subway, several restaurants right next door.
For price location services and comfort is really great!
the rooms of course being a hostel cannot be of hotel suites, but they are spotless!
the only drawback is that you can't open the Windows.
Top value for money. The staff is very friendly, fast and engaged. The location directly at the S-Bahn and tram is ideal and super accessible.
Wi-Fi is free and fast. The rooms are clean, simple and practical.
The breakfast is OK, very bad coffee. But there are suitable alternatives in Berlin Yes enough. The price for the rental bicycles is cheap it is worth taking a trip on your own. Berlin by bike a great experience.
(S) Relatively far from the most central areas of Berlin, if we can use that term when speaking of this fantastic city, but excellent U-Bahn, S-Bahn and local DB. Directly connected to the Schönefeld Airport line, there is more than 35 minutes from the hostel to the airport.
It is close to Prenzlauer Berg (Mauer Park) and FriedricSchain.
It has perhaps not so much atmosphere or performance that has its namesake of Mitte but think it is a very economical and well located choice. If you want to get double rooms there booking with long time in advance.
On my last visit I not spent long time but unless an ALDI that there is very close there is many options to eat or even street food stalls.
It is not a must but it can get you out of any trouble, and above all allows you to be near the airport if you plan travel around Schönefeld.
This is an excellent hostel in the centre of Berlin. The staff are very friendly and competent. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Great bar and central courtyard for socialising. 24hr access and luggage lockers.
Location is good, next to U-bahn. Common areas also nice. But room is too small, not a good cleaning, no shower towels included. You need to pay for them as well as for soap, shampoo and any other kind of usual service. Overall impression, not very positive…
Prices very reasonable. Quiet area. The ei there in my room didn't arrive but down in the bar was pretty fast.
Rooms, clean, comfy, plenty of storage space, and the private bathrooms spacious and clean, if they're in use by a room mate there are other showers single showers in the halls. Only complaint is when you pull the storage locker out it pretty much blocks the path of the room but meh. Area, the hostels about a 20 minute walk from the train station if you take your sweet time and in walking distance of most local sights. It also has tours available that take you out of town for the day to see several sights. Food and drink: has a fair food menu but I'd recommend going out myself, drinking on the other hand, the bartenders offer many drinks for decent prices, happy hour is sadly 2-4pm. The staff: I cannot praise them enough, super friendly, front desk were very helpful but the bartenders go above and beyond, Tldr: choose this hostel!
Had a mix-up (got bed in mixed room instead of the booked female only room) but it got solved quickly. You can leave your stuff in the luggage room, if it's not ready yet, without additional costs. And you can even use the shower in the first floor in the mean time. Staff is nice. Breakfast is "so lala" but ok. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and tidy.
This place is pretty hip and reasonably priced. Breakfast is perhaps a tad overpriced though. Everything was high quality and not sketchy. It also wasn't too crowded; we stayed in thr middle of the week in May and we were the only two in our eight-person room. The free luggage room in the basement was very nice, and we were allowed to use it even after we checked out. Staff was very friendly.
It's a classic International Hostel. Great for those on a limited budget and for those who want to stay in youth environments. You have to take into account though that you can come across schools Dutch and a mix of cultures from all over the world. The isolation level of the environment is not the same as a hotel.
It's one of the nicer hostels in Berlin (and Europe in general), but I wouldn't say it's the best in Berlin. It does however, have a nice atmosphere and bar with reasonable prices, as well as a great location in Mitte next to the S-bahn station. Only downside was the ensuite. The showers don't have a door/curtain/liner, so water gets all over the floor and makes it hard to finish getting ready comfortably. After this visit, I certainly believe the other comparably rated and slightly better priced hostels are more deserving of a visit. It's simply not worth paying a premium for the Generator name over other area hostels. If the Generator does, however, have the price and layout you're looking for, I wouldn't pass it over, as it's still a solid hostel. If you do choose the Generator, be sure to either bring your own towel or factor in the cost of buying/renting one for your stay. (Many area hostels do this as well)
Simply Easy to find if it's your 1st time in Berlin, Great Location. Staff understand and speak English very helpful. Rooms are excellent can't wait to come back. Someday…
This was genuinely the best hostel I have stayed in thus far in my trip to Europe. The staff is incredibly friendly, the hostel has a lot to offer to guests, and it was 100% worth the price I paid to stay. I definitely recommend this hostel!
Great location. Clean and rooms. Friendly staff. Bar is a lot of fun. And the service at the bar is second to none. I recomend.
Very good hostel for a nice price. Location is indeed good, and (private) rooms are quite good for a couple. I do recommend it.
Great staff, great atmosphere. Lots of young people. Easy to make friends. 10/10 definitely worth it! Only downside is the dorm showers can be lacking, but not a big deal.
Again super with you. More so. Super Service.
Great location, clean beds and bathrooms, 2 sockets to charge stuff in every bed, nice chill-out area, kind staff, inexpensive, not to loud. Couldn't have expected anything more.
Generator was was a really good place to stay. Stated there while backpacking on a budget. Location was great. Easy walking distance to museum Island and other attractions. And for any attractions further afield the trains were very close by and easy to use.
Friendly staff, good Wi-fi, nice room.
Hey last year we were in August and there are still very enthusiastic of you. Have you recommended them in our family now where in the next month to get to you. Location total class and always an experience. Through the understanding and love receiving a warm Welcome feeling. Rooms practical and clean. We will definitely this year again. Until soon, your Elizabeth Mary Ann Cooper.
Very well mounted and pleasant, he sleeps very well but it would be good that they clean the rooms a little more and you put lights automatically at night, because there are people that is considered very little.
Our double room with private bathroom was super clean and equipped with everything you need. The staff is very friendly and always helpful and the location for a Berlintrip perfect. The Breakfast was also sufficient. We were very satisfied and would stay here again.
Obviously the showcase location for publicity, investors and patrons alike… been here several times and always consistent. Have stayed in shared snd private rooms — — Hamburg, London and… the one that's like the Sachsenhausen of Generator Berlin… as far as Prenzlberg has ever gotten it's practically in Oranienburg♪ Mitte is convenient, great mix, feels safe.
It is a good place to stay. But, sometimes messy. Breakfast not included, considering the price.
Super Lage, Zimmer OK. Würde mir Vorhänge fürs Bett wünschen (etwas mehr Privatsphäre und man hat weniger Probleme mit der Zimmer Beleuchtung) sowie längere Frühstückszeiten wie im Generator Prenzlauer Berg.
Great location in the centre of the city. Fun, youth, beautiful. At night near the hotel hovering prostitutes. Of the minuses — cool.
Fantastic and very helpful young people working there, room enough spacious and beds very comfortable, heating/fan panel in room so you decide how hot you want in your room, sensible price. I definitely recommend this place for short stay.
ATTENTION: Be aware that there are two streets in Berlin named Oranienburger Straße, therefore whenever using the GPS to locate the hostel use the zip code in the search or the hostel's name. About the hostel: Good location, about only 10 minutes walking from the museum Island and 15 from the Alexander Platz. There are many train and subway stations close. There are supermarkets and stores close. Great structure, the room for 8 people is small, but fits everyone comfortably, the beds are comfortable and each room has its own bathroom and toilet, witch are separated. It's pretty clean. The staff is very friendly and aways available to help with anything. You will need to use your own padlock to close your locker.
Muy buen hostel. Buenas instalaciones y bien localaizado.
Great price, staff, and location. Definitely vrecommend if you're looking for a hostel.
Last year I was there, and I found the place cool. Really, good traffic, great environment. The Best Accommodation In Berlin.
Had to overnight in Berlin, chose to stay at s hostel for the first time. Generator worked for me, friendly staff, accommodation was Ok.
Worst hostel I've ever stayed at. Has no desire to provide a reasonable experience, opts instead to force you into its overpriced bars and cafes (outside food or drink is not allowed). A terrible experience in a wonderful city. Avoid at all costs.
Timothy and Cat. The main reasons for my fun in Berlin! Great service.
Disaster in all aspects as well of course.
Rooms guys, a lot of heat in summer, no air and cannot be opened the windows.
Modern, but the rooms are much too tight. In addition, the one with the bunk beds one of the two sockets can not use, because a a cross brace runs over it.
Despite the breakfast being poor and those hedious reading lamps above bed head (which are difficult to avoid without minor head bumps), I'm still giving this place 5 stars! That's how cool it is.
Great location, very modern and nicely decorated, rooms are clean. The staff works but sometimes a bit absent, not all speak also German and / or English. But Overall highly recommended!
Wifi is useful and a light close to the bed.
Perfectly suited for groups of young people! Friendly service, good location.
I have stayed here last weekend. This hostel have really nice and modern ambience. The best thing is that awesome location.
This super well. Very clean, the treatment great. The only thing that there is no television in the room.
Clean, friendly, cheap! Multicultural! A very nice experience! Great atmosphere in the Bar. Thanks to Dirk! ID like to come back to you.
One of the best hostels I've been to. If you want to meet people on your travels, this is where you go to stay! I bump it down from five stars because they didn't have AC. The rooms with six people get so warm! Still, great location, great bar and great staff.
Nice location and staff, full of young people. So a little bit noisy but feels quite good. Close to subway so transportation is good. As youth hotel the room is ok, but facility is very poor. Generally a good stay.
I am reviewing this as a bar, as I didn't stay in the hostel. I've lived in Berlin for 9 months. Pros: -Nice staff -Contemporary bar (albeit no character) -Met some nice people Cons: -Extremely, extremely weak drinks -Expensive weak drinks -After going to the toilet, you can't get back into the bar because you need a room key card, therefore having to walk round outside -One of the staff wasn't so nice -Refund system for glasses, which is just a pain in the arse, there were 3 staff on and the bar was quiet, so why thy can't collect glasses I don't know. Just seems to me a way for the bar/staff to get a few more quid a night by people forgetting to return their glasses. Conclusion: If I was walking past, I would probably go in for a beer, NOT anything else because they were just so weak and expensive. When I was there I asked what the barman would recommend and he said a Generator Special or something and I paid 8 euros, and it must have been half a shot of vodka and a full glass of tropical fruit juice. My mate also had a vodka Red Bull and that tasted like water too. However there were some sound people in there so I just stayed for a few beers after that.
A perfect low-prize alternative. Hyper modern style with youthy touch. Staff is all you can wish for and more. On the con side: I wouldn't recommend it to families as the street outside is full of hookers in the evening.
