Me and my partner usually go to The Soho Hotel which we love. We decided on a new location, We love South Kensington area so we chose Blakes. (Big mistake). We upgraded to a luxury room but it was a huge (expensive) disappointment. The room was really dark and cold looking. Nowhere to put your suitcases and tiny wardrobe/ tiny bath also. On arrival, as per requested a bottle of champagne and chocolates should of been ready for us as we entered, instead I had to ask for it to be sent 3 times. When asking the first time the receptionist told me nothing was requested, but when I checked my confirmation email IT WAS! The chocolates weren't even presented nicely, just a plain bar of chocolate I could of bought from Tesco! Whats the point? Service is extremely slow. When ordering our room service (breakfast) I asked for salmon instead of bacon for my Eggs Benedict, yet I received ham?. What a joke. Half the staff do not even speak proper english — its hard to even complain! When we dined in the restaurant, it was empty and cold. They played horrible banging trance music (not good) with only 2 tables, the food was slow to come out. We ordered chicken curry and sent it back as it was just chicken soup with rice (we requested more chicken, the round round we had 4 tiny bits of chicken) — I had the sea bass. This I didn't mind but it was rather lonely on my plate, small and over priced. When we ordered our deserts, again, it took too long so we decided to walk out half way through telling the staff we had had enough. On the second night we ordered local chinese take away and it was much better! The last day, we ordered room service again. 2 burgers. We got cold, hard chips and 2 tough burgers. The only thing I enjoyed was my cup of tea. I also called reception to book us into Nobu Restaurant, to which she never got back to me so I had to do that myself. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. Badly overpriced, dark, depressing hotel and the staff do not speak good english. Please fire your chef.
