Great pub set behind the Hackney Empire.
Stayed for one night and received excellent service. It stocks a very good array of beers and the food is really good but on the pricey side. I would go again thats For sure.

Had a real good experience dining here, had the chicken Sunday roast, absolutely loved it will be back next time I'm in the city.

Excellent little place with a unique feel and atmosphere, food, drinks and staff are all great too, a must visit place if in Hackney.

Unfortunately, a guest was very disruptive, but that doesn’t take away from the cute hotel vibe. The bar and restaurant looked great and the hotel room design was nice, too. Central to many stores and transportation.

Lovely bright busy friendly eclectic pub. The food was delicious. Passage entrance on Mare Street or round the back on Sylvester Path. Very close to Hackney Empire so you can have a meal and drinks here before going to see a show. Definitely worth a visit.

The staff were very helpful and served up 23 lunches with the minimum of fuss. We had a great time!

I met my friends here for lunch yesterday, the venue is so nice with a good friendly atmosphere and oh my gosh the rotesserie chicken was sooo delicious! We also had halloumi fries which were yum! I’m definitely coming back for the chicken alone!

Five stars for the Sunday roast: I had the chicken and my accomplice had the beef. Both meats were cooked to perfection; juicy, full of flavour, and a big serving too! The veggies were delish, and the roast potatoes were gorgeous. And the pudding. And the gravy! Oh the gravy! Get your whole meat life at the Old Ship Inn.

Good food, slightly odd service… as the only guests there the waiter spent most of his time putting candles on every table — just before closing the kitchen (at 9PM! ) and promptly removing them again.

Great rooms, pub and bar. Food was a bit below par. Hot wings… hot sauce check hot chicken wings check. But one was poured over the other like a dip, not a marinade, so the chicken just tastes meh. Burger needed more, much more seasoning. Wish I had the rotisserie chicken, which looked great. Breakfast is not served till 0730, but too late for me I'm afraid, had to make do with Costa round the corner. : — (

Having been to this establishment many times and enjoyed the Sunday roast; it’s really sad that on our latest occasion of eating here was such a disappointment. Firstly, there was one person in front of me at the bar and it seemed to take quite a long time to get served — I’m probably only talking 5 minutes but it seemed to take an eternity! Perhaps this set the tone for what was to follow… After ordering drinks and food for me and my partner I was efficiently given the drinks I had ordered, pointed out to the barman where I was sitting and went to sit back down and enjoy a quiet drink with my partner before the food arrived. Had a nice conversation, and had some more conversation, booked a film to watch at the nearby cinema and had some more conversation. Bearing in mind we had ordered c. 1:30pm the time was now after 2pm! We were getting very hungry at this stage and could also see another table starting to look over to see where their food was — these were people that had ordered after us! Waited a few more minutes before approaching the kitchen area to say to the bar person that I’d ordered over 40 minutes ago; after he double checked he said we would be served next. All fine and good I thought; another conversation, feeling very hungry, another 10 minutes waiting! Went up again to the kitchen area and asked the chef in the kitchen how long it would be; he said our food was coming!

Amazing food, proper dirty burger and proper coleslaw, service spot on, watch out your my new regular now.

Just visited for a couple after work and watch world cup. Staff very friendly and chatty. Beer was very enjoyable. Will certainly go back when next in the area.

Great rooms, great price, excellent location, and wonderful food. Proximal to bus and rail depots. Good coffee and plenty of coffee kiosks in the area. Can’t ask for anything more when travelling. If I visit Hackney or London again, I believe I’ll be staying here.

Don't worry about missing the match here. Screens everywhere. Nice place, friendly staff, deep-fried goodness, veggie options, nice fresh salads. Recommended.

LOVE The Old Ship — I honestly think they do one of the best Sunday Roasts in London, the Mac n Cheese is delish as well! Well, and the burgers — It's all good! Really lovely staff and chilled atmosphere!

So far it's been lovely. Nice little inn with unique amenities and cool atmosphere. Dinning now and the food is very good. And the local Hackney ale "ka-pow" is fantastic!

Used this venue for my Grandads Funeral Reception … the food was delicious and prices was very reasonable especially for the amount of food you get … all guest were very happy… the service was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Possibly my new favourite pub! Great chilled atmosphere and the roast was incredible! Very generous portions and food deals throughout the week.

We stayed there for a short Easter trip to London. The pub is really nice, has good food and drinks. The rooms are nice as well, decently clean. Would definitely stay there again should the occasion arise.

Nice once you get access to the pub. Quite a comfortable venue, I stayed in Room 4 which had a very comfortable bed, adequately hot, water that did not gush through taps or shower head. A quiet room even on a Saturday night. The breakfast was pleasant but offered nothing exceptional. I traveled there by car and found road access and parking difficult with bollards across several access roads and parking limited to 4 hours, Mon to Sat from 8am to 11pm.

A surprisingly airy pub, should you walk down the alleyway from Mare St. In side a wooded and metallic abode greats you. Pleasantly off the main high street the haunt is quiet and perfect for an intimate chat. You may rent darts for the board if you like.

I visited the pub for a drink with my friends. Cant say anything about how it runs as an inn. The place was crowded as the six nations Ireland-Wales was taking place. Despite the high level of trade, the service was very quick and efficient. Our server was really nice to us and even had a bit of a chat with us, which made us feel really welcome. If in the area, I would definitely visit again.

Perfect Sunday afternoon. Good atmosphere, mix of sport fans and families. But the best aspect was the Sunday roast. I’m not a veggie but I went for the veggie option and it beats hands down most pub meat roasts I’ve ever had. Awesome!

Waitress managed to bump my girlfriend about 6 times as she walked by without apologising. When we asked her about she acted like she was clueless. Appalling service, treat people with some respect.

The rotisserie chicken was cooked beautifully falling off the bone. Great location in the heart of central Hackney.

Went here before a show at Hackney Empire. Food was excellent and so was the service. It's just steps from the theatre.

One of the best pubs in the area. Never overly crowded, never wait long to be served, but nearly always a decent atmosphere give or take the time of the week. They've nailed a mix of good alcohol selection, straightforward but decent menu and pretty good regular clientele from what I've seen in my years coming here. The new GM has overseen some nice changes too more recently so the place is likely to be awesome come spring/summer!

Great decor — good pub food and beer — decent service.

We stumbled in here when heading back towards the overground, looking for a few more drinks to finish the evening. We were not disappointed, as the choice of ales was good. Pints were served in glasses with handles which was s nice touch.

Perfect place for a proper pint and a pub meal. The 10 room inn is clean, safe and very affordable if a little worn but that adds to its charm. The service was very friendly and accommodating across the board. I highly recommend The Old Ship for a bite or a night.

Cold roast. Forgot some of the veg. Not great unfortunately. Nice beer though.

My friend ordered a lager and was served a craft one. It tasted awful, when asked, the bar staff said it was part of the taste and didn’t offer an alternative. If you go there, don’t order the craft lager.

Food is delicious! Cocktail selection could do with a shake up.

Had been there twice for staff drinks and Christmas dinner with work. Was a nice atmosphere. Food was good. However not my favourite place as no cocktail choices. Apart from that it's great.

This place has delicious food, great servings and the best craft IPA a person could wish for.

Great little pub hidden on a side road in Hackney. Quite bustling, with a good selection of beers specialising in Truman's on draft. Aging hipster crowd and very nice staff behind the bar. Also, nice seating outside.

This is a food order review only (Deliveroo) My food took about an hour to deliver (as they advertised, which is fine). When it arrived (bacon/cheese burger, fries, chicken wings) everything was cold, so I had to put it all in the oven to re-heat. Once reheated, the wings and fries were good but the burger was a huge disappointment — cutting the burger in half, I was left wondering what meat I was eating because it definitely didn't look or taste like minced beef. I complained to Deliveroo, who rightly refunded part of my order.

Good selection of beers on draft and bottle/can, lovely friendly staff, and a good vibe without being overly busy on a Saturday night.

Seriously the tastiest cheese burger I have had in a long time. The sweet potato one was amazing too. Very good all round!

Friendly staff, good selection of beers and very nice room. Loses 1star only because breakfast was too oily but the lady serving was on her own having to do it all so not her fault. Perfect for overground to get to Stratford.

Really like this place. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Like the menu because it has the right amount of dishes without being over ambitious. Had the veggie burger which was really good. Cocktails are a treat too!

As a place to drink on a sunny day, this was a great pick. You'll have a choice of a small outside area with a few tables or a cool and spacious indoors, but crucially The Old Ship tends to be fairly quiet on weekend days when the sun is out (I assume because most head to nearby parks) so this is worth going to if you don't want the crowds. It's also worth going to for a decent selection of beers, a good menu, friendly staff and some half decent artwork dotted around (including the high street entrance, pictured).

The food is not great — over priced coleslaw and chicken that had no flavour.
The service was probably worse than the food — once we'd eaten our desserts they asked us on 3 occasions if we wanted the bill when we didn't even ask for it. I totally understand if they had to give the table to someone else but they weren't busy and no was waiting for a table. Whoever manages this place, not sure how you've trained your staff but you deserve the 1 star based on the poor/disgusting service and the mediocre food which you served.
