Review of The Belgrove Hotel 2*

This is THE worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We booked the hotel on the basis of price so were expecting budget accommodation but this was something else. Firstly the receptionist didnt make any effort to make you feel welcome, he was not rude but was totally unenthusiastic and looked like he couldnt really care less whether you enjoyed your stay or not. We upgraded to a family room because we didnt want a shared bathroom at a cost of just over £90. When you look at other hotels in the surrounding area for £90 you can get a lot more for your money. After going through the dark, pokey corridors and opening the squeaky doors we arrived in what can only be described as a glorified squat. The shower: brown, cracked tiles with mould. Ceiling was made out of wood panelling with holes in. Even if this was clean it still would have felt dirty and is in need of a major refurb. Shower pressure wasnt so bad but bring your own shampoo though. Opposite was a toilet. You opened the door half way and it hit the tiny sink on the wall. The toilet system was covered in cigarette burns and the toilet was not particularly clean. Again there was mould and wasnt pleasant. Bedroom: You go through another sqeaky door into the bedroom which again can not be opened fully because it hits the bed so you have to squeeze past. You are given one pillow which was dreadful so had to use towels to compensate for this. Bedsheets had hairs on them and a stain. No lamp shade. No bedside light. Marks all over the walls. You could hear word for word what was being said upstairs and everytime someone used the bathroom upstairs and turned the extractor on it was like someone had a jack hammer going. Then at 08:30 the balcony next door was having work done so we had an electric saw going off right outside the window. We were obviously quite dissapointed with this hotel and when we left we thought we might have been asked how our stay was. This was not the case, we handed in the key and didnt even get a goodbye. I would like to add that this account is 100% accurate and true. Do not stay at this hotel. Spend your money elsewhere.
