Pros: Clean bedding, towels and shared bathrooms, cheap, friendly staff Cons: heavy doors, ancient decor, archaic check in system. It was fine, as far as a cheap room goes. Clean, if somewhat drab.

Don't do it! Everything looked cheap, shabby and/or dirty. When we went to look for an alternative the receptionist kept pestering me with phone calls even though there was no refund allowed she was wanting to know if we were coming back so she could get someone else in there. The room was not cheap either. We got a much better room for £20 less 2 doors down at The Morgan.

I have never stayed in a worse hotel. The receptionists were exceptionally unhelpful and untrustworthy asking for pictures of both sides of cards to be emailed in order to make payments and then not wanting to write receipts telling me to come back later as writing a receipt would take half an hour when I insisted it was done in less than five minutes. The loos were in the showers and there was urine in the shower. Mould was growing on the ceiling and between the floor tiles. Hotel offered a bar of soap no shampoo or anything else. Wi-Fi was intermittent at best. The walls of the tiny room were filthy and the window overlooking the main road was broken. On the upside it was fairly close to where I needed to be.

I had to pay when I arrived (a lot) for a room I had not seen which turned out to be small and dirty. There was someone else's condom wrapper and two porno mags in my room to greet me… which was nice! The curtains where about a foot too short which made sleeping difficult. On the plus side the location near to the British museum was handy but on balance l would have preferred not to have stayed in this wankers paradise.

Good price for the area, but desperately needing simple and achievable improvements. Start with a ten pound bag check fee. Move then to replacing, thirty year old, torn, stained and smelly carpets… You get what you pay for, but by first world standards I'm disappointed. I would not recommend this place for anything beyond a budget solo traveler.

Rooms extremely small. Mattress was horrible, has big sink in the misdle and need replacing as they are very worn. Bathrooms a bit of distance from room. Overall the entire place need painting and lots of general refurbishing. Heating system was off the entire stay of 4 days. Only thing good was the location… that's all.

While the placement is good to reach many destinations, the rooms themselves are quite lacking. The shower is really small and the beds quite uncomfortable. The stairs are steep and every thing just seems to be the absolute minimum. But it is quite cheap and the value is fine. I personally would consider spending a bit more but if you dont really care, this place is alright.

At the price, my expectations were not very high, but still I was very disappointed. There was no Wi-Fi in the room and only a very poor internet connection in the entrance area. The door could not be locked. It was all filthy with funny spots everywhere and also extremely small: the built-in homemade "bathroom" looked like a Dixi-loo at a festival! It was also very noisy, you were constantly getting noises from the hallway. The staff was very rude. You try to get more money on every occasion: luggage was stored at the reception only for a fee. The only good thing was the location, otherwise simply catastrophic!

Did the job. Cheap and cheerful, good location right next to British Museum and certainly in the heart of London. Loud doors banging all night however. Otherwise can't complain. View was limited but at least it had windows.

Curtains didn't fit windows, shower was cold, and staff didn't respond to fire alarm or when I called reception to let them know the fire alarm was ringing.

Worthful stay near to prestigious and hstorical British museum. Staff is so nice and cooperative.

Utterly unacceptable. When I checked the room, the heating was on and there was hot water in the tap. Then I woke up in the middle of the night, shivering, as the heating had switched itself off. And in the morning I ran the shower for ten minutes and the water was still icy cold. As was the room: it's snowing outside. I paid for two nights and they refused to give me a refund for the second. I strongly discourage everyone from staying in this den of thieves.

-1 Damp room, bed hard as nails cob webs in all corners, bathroom should be back in the 70's no pressure for a shower. Plus point lots of clean bed linen and towels. Last min late booking should of spent 5 mins reading reviews and would of avoided this place.

Minimum Union. Good location but otherwise nothing that could justify a stay for more than one night.

Honestly, I don't know how they're getting away with it. I don't care how cheap something is, you pay money you should at least expect the basics! For your money, this is what you get at Gresham hotel. — a sink in the corner — bed sheets made from curtains — used condoms on the balcony -stained walls and carpets -miss hannigan on reception -a shared toilet with 30 rolls of toilet roll and a mop stuffed in there -a TV with no remote -no Wi-Fi Single pane windows for the true "draft of the 70s" effect I wanted to treat my girlfriend and daughter to a weekend in london, see a show and see the sights! Most of that ruined due to the fact they don't feel safe in this hotel, it is not a warm welcoming place! This place either needs refurbishment or demolishing! Yes I am being colourful with my words and descriptions, but I am not exaggerating on the low quality of this "hotel"

Absolutely disgusting place. The female receptionist with south asian origin is very rude. Not helpful especially when I left my glasses there and phoned them the next day. Didn’t bother looking. Said it wasnt there just hung up on me. Look for other hotels if youre visiting london.

A simple place to sleep. Room was nice and warm. Showers are mini wet rooms (a shower cubicle, with a curtain and 1 part to hang your dry things) — so the floor will be wet, take your socks off before going in, take the rest of your things in a bag.

Receptionist lady had miserable face all the time. For one person the room size is OK and bed comfy although didn't smell very good, dirty walls and old paint, furnitures with really bad aspect and my blanket had HAIR from someone else and didn't smell clean. Horrible place!

The walls were extremely thin and you can hear everything from the other rooms, I didn't sleep at all due to the guests next door who left loud music playing the entire night. There was loud banging as if something was being fixed in another room. It was literally the hotel from hell. Do not stay here if you are a human being who needs sleep to survive. At least the pillows and bed were comfy.

This is a very basic hotel (I've seen it described as more of a hostel than a hotel in other reviews and that's pretty accurate). There is no elevator, no breakfast availability, there was no kettle in my room (can't speak for other rooms) and no Wi-Fi to the rooms. The staff were polite on check in and as I came and went, but not particularly chatty. Reception is open 24 hours a day which is handy. My room was a single on the fourth floor (essentially roof space) so had to climb two reasonably broad staircases and one narrower windy one (see photo) to get to it. There is separate shared toilet and shower room on the landing. Neither was very clean but were ok. The stack of about 8 toilet rolls in the toilet for 4 rooms on the landing suggest to me that the staff bring them up in bulk to avoid having to come up the last flight of stairs too often. The room itself was an adequate size for a single with a sink, chair and tv. It is long overdue for being refurbished and looked shabby but not overly dirty. The bedding was clean but you could see the stains on the mattress through the sheet (again see photo). This mattress was the only thing that really disturbed me about the room and it is something that they really need to attend to (and a big part of the reason they only get one star). The biggest selling point of this hotel though is it's position. Firstly, it is 5 minutes away from the British Museum (the building backs on to the museum) which is perfect for it.

This hotel should be avoided at all costs! It lacks all modern amenities including Wi-Fi… I have found ciggaret droppings on the stairs. This place is simply dirty! I could never recommend it to anyone! Shared shower and shared toilets. Book well in advance at some other place, pay an extra 20 pounds and have decency! I ended here because I lost a flight, otherwise I would have never set foot in such a place!

A real nightmare! Staff who speak bad even English, rooms superannuated, dirty, lifestyle, cold and noisy because the windows do not close. I changed three rooms and they were one worse than the other. A bar of soap, toilet paper resting on the floor and all dirty. No elevator, small stairs and steep. In the evening I took a shower, but due to the lack of windows the water vapor did trigger the fire alarm and I had to go out because even there was no phone in the room to call the front desk and let me explain what was going on.

For my stay in London I chose this hotel because it is quite close to various points of interest, Subway and bus.
Behind the Hotel is the British Museum, a small shopping area and within easy reach of the Soho district (and Piccadilly Circus).
My room on the ground floor was quite noisy (the noises came in, for the truth even from inside the lobby).
There is no air conditioning, there is no Wi-Fi.
I recommend this property to fussy eaters and needing a pied to lands to visit the city.
This is not a place to spend a romantic holiday.

It's in a nice location with Primark and West End Broadway within walking distance. Downsides include a shared toilet and shower with everyone on your floor, and only a sink in the room. The heater was difficult to figure out, and there is no air conditioning besides an open window. It's not an ideal place to stay, but manageable if you will be exploring more than staying inside. Reception is good.
