Room was very ugly but recently refurbished. Walls are the thinest I could have a conversation with someone next door. Expect your door to move (and make noise) every time someone close a door somewhere else on the floor. We were placed in between two groups of very loud inconsiderate Indians, who called us by mistake in the morning as well. Then there was a car alarm in the parking lot that you can hear as well as if it was your alarm. Pillows are hard. I woke up very early with a headache. The shower has almost no pressure and the water doesn’t get hot, just mild. Would not recommend this hotel at all, price is terribly high for such low standards.

Came here for afternoon tea. It was delicious and the staff were friendly and happy to take photos. If you're not very hungry would recommend sharing a full afternoon tea as portions are very generous! I found the cucumber sandwich roll kind of gross as the bread was like soggy mush but all the other food was nice. It was also annoying that they put 3 teabags in my teapot as the tea was way too strong even though I took out the bags immediately. Fire alarm went off twice, idk if this is a common occurrence but it was a bit irritating. Lovely location otherwise.

Course is in great shape. Sticky rough and quick greens, condition excellent. No breakfast facilities. We got there an hour before tee and were told of a cafe half mile away and if we missed our tee we would not get on. Moody. Rushed back, in time and advised it was white socks only and same Moody charged 2 of us £10 for socks. That guy will never see us again. Girls in the bar were fab. Right shame. Bye bye.

The hotel itself is set back off the main road. Two separate buildings — the old main house and a more modern building with more rooms tucked around the corner. Nice rooms and good tea and coffee facilities — real coffee and cafetiere in each room! Staff were friendly and accommodating. Nice views from the lookout at the end of the drive over a green countryside with benches. Restaurant food is of a high standard too. Had rump lamb which was incredible!

This is a lovely place to stay, full of character and with the history of having been the home of W. S. Gilbert, the celebrated Victorian librettist and one half of Gilbert & Sullivan. The rooms in the main house are very nice as is the whole building, the garden lodge rooms are also to a good standard, if with less character. The gardens are also good. The staff were very good.

I discovered this hotel as I travelled to London to meet my daughter. The building and grounds are beautiful; the building was designed by Norman Shaw and it was once the home of WG Gilbert (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame). The grounds are beautiful and well tended and the garden rooms are stylish, comfortable and the ground floor rooms have a patio out to the garden. Despite this it's handy for harrow and has easy access to central London.

Stayed two nights in a lovely comfortable room in the annex. Friendly, helpful staff and a good breakfast. Off the beaten track and worth a visit to see the gardens.

The reception staff were very welcoming and friendly. The grounds and hotel itself beautiful. My husband and I stayed in a ground floor room separate from the main house. This room was clean and relatively well kept. But we were woken at 0800 by a conference taking place in a suite directly opposite our room. There were approximately 13 people therein and the door had been wedged open. There was lots of chatting, loud discussions and laughter which we could hear as loudly as if they were in the room with us! I think the hotel need to rethink the location of some of the guest bedrooms, as the stay was spoilt by this episode.

Was there on a private event. The hotel is a great venue hosting live opera in the upstairs room. A fabulous marble fire place. Food is very good and always too much to eat. Afternoon teas are a wonderful treat in the garden. Hosts, weddings, private parties etc. Listed building full of history from Gilbert and Sullivan. Their operas are a regular feature of Grims Dyke. I would highly recommend this venue.

The Grand facade to the building, shared by the interior, gave the hotel quite an upmarket feel to it. Staff were charming and friendly in reception, as well as at breakfast despite them being rushed off their feet. Our room in the lodge was clean tidy and nicely appointed. So all in all a most pleasant stay!

Cracking location. Beautiful building and setting. Very peaceful. Good restaurant and bar. Would have liked a better beer on tap. Breakfast excellent, either continental, full English or kippers/smoked haddock. Great grounds so good for business or a short social break.

Very pleased, room was clean and warm, with hot drink facilities. The bathroom was clean and fresh, and bed was very comfortable. At night the hotel was quiet and peaceful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with good choices.

Lovely place in the middle of the woods. Lovely surroundings and unique building. Bar is nice and very quiet. The staff are great. Make sure you have a look at the music room.

This is a truly amazing hotel the building is fantastic the staff are so friendly, the food is perfect. We had the Goodall room which was really beautiful. A hotel that is 5 star throughout _thank you can’t wait to come back.

The main building of the hotel is really lovely. The surrounding gardens are beautiful with some of the best views over the whole of London. You can even see the London Eye from here in central London! We stayed in the lodges which are separate from the main hotel, so a short walk is needed to get to restaurant etc. Perfect if you want to stay in a rural location in London, good value rooms too.

Visited for Christmas dinner with family. The music room was spacious, the food was good and the service was timely. The live jazz band did a great job of keeping a festive sound in the background and were sensible enough not to drown out conversation (from where we sat). Very enjoyable.

Went with friends for Christmas lunch. Food we had was good but they were very unhelpful and difficult when asked for vegan meal and receptionist refused to even provide some fresh fruit as an alternative when asked. Manager in the restaurant does not appear to possess a smile and was most unfriendly. Will not recommend or return.

I had my birthday meal with some friends here and really enjoyed it, all be it from the attention from the staff, they were great, pleasant and attentive… but only when you had their attention, and gaining it was at time tiresome. We ordered a couple of bottles of wine for the table and they chose to place them in coolers, which is fine, but then placed the buckets 8 foot from the table, when my guests wanted a top up we struggled to get the attention we required, I'm sure they would have done very well out of the bar bill if we had only been able to reach the bottles. However, the building is amazing and has some history to it, the grounds are very well kept and there are some great walks to be had in the woods also, but it can be a bit muddy at times so don't forget to bring the right footwear. Parking was plentiful on our visit but they do weddings here so that might not always be the case, and there's limited public transport to this venue.

The food was excellent. Think the staff needed a little more desire to give their clients a top class service. The ambience of the Gilbert Restaurant is perfect.

Nice hotel with some lovely historical features and friendly helpfull staff. It's also in a great location well suited to getting into London by train.

We had our wedding here in August in the Drawing Room. It was a perfect day in every way and this is thanks to the hard work of Demelza. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She went out of our way to make sure our special day was just right. Her communication and helpfulness in the lead up to our wedding could not have been better. Richard was also brilliant on the day. The whole day was faultless – food, drinks, grounds, staff and ambience. The hotel is really beautiful with the most stunning grounds and the Sullivan honeymoon suite is so grand. We had a relatively small wedding of 35 people so we booked the smaller room. Only thing to mention is that you can’t play the music that loud at all in the Drawing Room, you have to book the main room if you want this, but we did know this prior to the big day so wasn’t a major issue. Thanks to everyone for making our day so very special.

Had a look for a wedding! The gardens are lovely and the building is set inside Forrest. Wedding room was a bit small but apart from that it was a beautiful setting.

We had our wedding here and I would definitely recommend it. Such a beautiful place. The manager, Richard, was on hand to make sure everything went smoothly and he was brilliant. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it was previously agreed that a small simple plain sponge cake would be made with the rest of the cream tea and cakes that we'd paid for — for some elderly relatives of mine. This was later refused by the chef and it was a pity as my elderly relatives didn't like the other food. I thought the food was nice though. Overall, we had a great time here.

Popped in for a drink on a Sunday evening. Very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the garden of an evening. My only concern was the service. Was checking the place for an evening meal and the lack of attention to detail by bar staff was a surprise. When asking for a menu was shown bar menu. When I wanted full menu was told I had to go and find it at reception. Reception were very pleasant and attentive, however, they lost my support when I was told I had to eat in the restaurant. Given this week the temperatures ate in the 30's even my offer to carry my own food outside fell on deaf ears. Must be a London thing as I use Best Western around the country and usually they are very flexible.

Excellent location, beautiful surroundings, extremely friendly staff and full of very interesting history.

Normally a good start but had one of the outside rooms. Carpet was dirty and surfaces were sticky. Walls dirty and mould in bathroom. Complained when checked out and all I got was a sorry and excuse that they are starting to renovate but can't do all rooms at once.

Attended a whisky tasting evening. Was very informative, with plenty of exhibitors with fine whiskeys to sample. Made all the more enjoyable in the surroundings of Grimsdyke Hotel. Will definitely go again.

Quality hotel, great food/restraint, quiet location not too far from transport etc, a good way above your average budget chain hotel.

The bar service was quite good but we felt it was a little overpriced. I asked a receptionist where the toilet was and when she turned around she was on the phone. Her response was to put her finger on her lips to tell me to be quiet. I thought this was rude.
