I am extremely disappointed in the service provided by Stanton house on a Sunday. No staff anywhere, leaving gravy stained cooks to pour drinks, slow and limited service when we received any and not adequately staffed for an event in the first pleace, for a baby shower. Extremely costly afternoon tea that was not to even the basic standard. Myself and all those at the event will not be going back or will not be recommending Stanton house to anyone.

We have just had a wonderful stay. The staff were fantastic, friendly, polite and so accommodating as we took our 11 week old baby with us. The food was all delicious, we had dinner and breakfast. We were impressed with how clean and well managed it was re Covid and we felt very relaxed. The grounds and park are stunning. We would highly recommend a visit.

We loved our staying at the hotel. It was such a lovely escape from everyday life. The view was really beuatiful although it was windy and a bit cold. We didn't know they had a japanese menu till we got to the restaurant. Food was good so was the service. It's also good for family too cos there is Stanton Park you cab have walks. Highly recommend it.

Great evening at a wedding reception. Staff were fabulous.

The worst service ever. Table booked for 7:30 over 2 months ago. On the afternoon, asked to turn up at 7:00 as they had big table in. Took us 25 mins to get drinks order in. Ordered food and it took over an hour for starters to come. Then they brought the 2 hot mains (20 mins after all starters cleared away), left for 15 mins before the others — all cold sushi — came out. Asked to see manager to be told there wasn’t one in duty. This was a lie. Eventually they took the Wine off the bill but we will never go back again. Absolutely appalling.

Me and my husband spent our 32nd wedding anniversary there last night, had a lovely room overlooking the lake. Very friendly staff and food was great, would stay again.

I went to lunch here yesterday. There is a beautiful view and very good food and service. The price is also very reasonable. I will recommend this venue to my friends. I have already booked a dinner for next week.

We had our wedding here last Saturday and the whole day from start to finish was absolutely perfect. Not a thing was out of place. Everything was just how we imagine and better. All the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Louise was absolutely amazing she got everything sorted and made me feel so relaxed. We can’t thank everyone enough for making this day just how we imagined. All the guest had nothing but great things to say about the day. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a beautiful wedding without the stress of organising. We will defiantly be back for other events and meals. Thank you again.

We had our wedding at Stanton on 25th May and it was perfect!
Everything ran smoothly and there was not a thing out of place, the staff were brilliant especially Louise who went above and beyond nothing was too much trouble.
We were made to feel special and all of ours guests have commented saying it’s the best wedding they have been too!

We use the hotel for all of our monthly meetings. The best thing about the hotel. Apart from the great location and the cleanliness… oh and the food are the staff. They are absolutely amazing. The service is incredible. Nothing is too much trouble. First class.

This is my little hide away that I tell my friends about. The stunning setting in Stanton Park is perfect. Both times I’ve stayed I’ve been lucky enough to have views of the lake. The scrumptious afternoon tea in the conservatory overlooking the grounds is well worth a try. All the staff are friendly and nothing is too much for them when you have a query. It’s perfect for trips out into the Cotswolds to explore the villages as well as places like Cotswold Wildlife Park. I love it so much I’ve already booked to come back again.

Great grounds to wander around and free parking. Indoor and limited outdoor seating. Cream teas only available when there is no wedding which is rare over the summer. Being a hotel it is expensive.

Visited for a wedding. The venue is wonderful. Our wedding party used the ceremony room, large wedding room for the day event and the medium room for the evening party. All were decorated beautifully. The staff were very attentive throughout the day. Highly recommended.

Spent 2 fabulous nights at stunning venue. The wedding we attended was organised and executed so smoothly, that I cannot say enough complementary things about the staff and management. Great cuisine, whether European or Japanese to boot. ♡

Make no mistake, this is a gorgeous hotel in a lovely setting. Afternoon tea on the lawn is a treat and there are also two restaurants serving very good Japanese food. If, on the other hand, you are visiting for a meal and don't fancy Japanese food — or have the misfortune to visit when the Japanese chef is having a well-deserved night off — then the dinner menu is very limited and rather uninspiring.

A large group of us had an absolutely lovely afternoon at the hotel today to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday.
Lisa was extremely helpful with my requests — even as far as showing me how the helium tank worked to fill the balloons!
Food was delicious — lots of choice of sandwiches along with profiteroles, strawberry mousse and scones with jam & cream.
I will certainly recommend the hotel for a venue for afternoon tea or a birthday celebration.

Our bedroom was nicely decorated, very comfortable with a great view onto the lake. The are stunning. The staff is very helpful and the service is pretty good. The restaurant offers Japanese and European food, I had dishes from both cuisine. Unfortunately, I wasn't too impressed with the food In general. It is a real shame because everything else was perfect. This is why I only give it a 4*.

A fine place for any event. Good food and excellent staff. Lovely function rooms, many with great views over countryside and the lake. Good value lunches with Japanese or European options on the menu. Nice conservatory to have afternoon tea on. In fine weather the terrace offers al fresco dining.

We stayed for a friend's wedding, the day was perfect with a lot of help and support from the staff. The room we stayed in was lovely with a great view of the lake, and breakfast was delicious. I would recommend this venue for any social event or even for just a relaxing weekend away.

Menu has had a few changes due to new chefs. We had katsu don which was tweaked to a better topping to rice ratio (more topping) — sauce was not too salty too — spot on. Agedashi tofu batter was a bit thick in spots which left some chewy bits — but I still enjoyed it! Staff very attentive and friendly. Would recommend preordering if possible as they often host large dining groups. Am definitely trying the salmon don next time!

Been here personally and professionally when delivering wedding cakes the staff has always been really helpful lovely venue. I have also heard wonderful things from some of my bride as well.

Stanton House is old and a bit of a rabbit warren. It is very clean and the staff are extremely helpful. Not the cheapest but quality food and drink are on offer. Pleasant grounds on offer.

Stayed at this hotel once and used it in a meeting as well. The rooms are fine, but the food served during lunch was a bare minimum. There was also no heating in the meeting room. There is also poor lighting outside so hard to navigate at nighttime (there is a lot of poor quality lighting)

The all you can eat Japanese buffet on a Thursday evening is one of the most non threatening introductions to Japanese food imaginable. It is also great value. The quality is good and the staff friendly and helpful.

Murder mystery evening tonight — the performance was amazing but the venue can not be faulted, the staff were really good and the food was to die for. Highly recommend and thank you for a great night.

Hotel was lovely. Very nice room, comfy bed. Had the Japanese food which was very tasty (my only problem is that as an uncultured Brit wanting some Japanese food the menu wasn't very informative). Breakfast was also great with lots of options. The grounds were beautiful. Which breakfast included and £40 restaurant voucher, ended up being an extremely well valued hotel.

Huge potential to be a lovely country manor with fine dining and a classy bar. Only ate food here but what a massive let down. The food was very poor quality and poorly cooked. There was a contractor in the restaurant having a full sales pitch right by our table regarding some partition walls. The music was bizzare and inappropriate and the decor was dated and tired. Such a shame as the drive up to the country house leads to believe this is a real gem however its more of a damp squid (pun intended).

I came here with friends on a beautiful summer evening, and we walked around the pretty gardens and woodland; though we didnt stay long, Im sure it would be nice to bring a picnic here, and for the kids to interact with the sheep. The bathrooms were clean which is always a relief. A nice way to spend a leisurely hour or two.

What a disappointment. On paper it looks lovely, in the flesh it does too… until you step inside. The potential is there however the miriad of broken items and poor service was a real shame. Certainly won't return, I hear premier in is good…

Just had the afternoon tea that I booked ahead of time in the conservatory as a 60th birthday gift for my friend and it was not the best experience, VERY DISAPPOINTED as we both have never been here before, the grounds and hotel are beautiful but the waiter we had was useless and took ages just to take our order and kept asking if we wanted to sit outside even though we said no a few times. The cakes and a very very small selection of sandwiches arrived they were fine but not great but the scones were awful rock hard and stale we could not even cut them with a knife. Our useless waiter went to get some more hot water for the tea and we thought when he returned we would tell him about the awful scones but after waiting about 20 minutes he never returned so I asked a waitress who could only apologise. She did return promptly with fresh scones and fresh tea but had to replace my new cup as the one she gave me was dirty. Would I recommend the answer is NO and it is definitely not worth the money.

Beautiful Japanese-inspired hotel in stunning location. Rooms are spacious and clean with great views. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is top quality. However, this idyllic venue is popular for weddings and a large wedding party will soon have you feeling like an intruder, so if it's quiet relaxation you want, give this a miss. Shame really, as it really is a great hotel. But for the reason given I could not recommend it.

We stayed as a gift from our children. It's a hidden gem of a hotel. Set in beautiful park land and ideal for access to Swindon and the Cotswolds yet very quiet and great for relaxing. Wonderful dinner and a superb breakfasts, comfortable room and it felt like the treat it was intended to be. For us, though, it was made by the staff; they were attentive without being over-bearing and we genuinely felt welcomed. I would not hesitate to go back and heartily recommend!

I would score Stanton House 5 stars. The cleanliness and the soundproofing of the room couldn't be faulted. The peace and quiet and scenery was perfect, the evening meals were beautifully presented and tasting. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The best place we have visited this year.

Lovely room and fab afternoon tea. Had dinner in the restaurant and was very disappointed. This was a special treat for my husband's birthday so we ordered a bottle of prossecco. It was served s at room temperature so we had to swap it for a bottle of white. Starters came but mine was missing a key part described on the menu. No one checked if our meal was OK or came past so I couldn't ask about it. Mains arrived before starters were cleared. At breakfast they had run out of orange juice! Beautiful hotel but disappointing food and service : (

Very nice but basic. Had afternoon tea was average nothing to complain about but wasn't overly special. Staff very nice. Wifi in room was poor. Overall a nice pleasant stay in nice surroundings.

We recently stayed in this hotel. After reading quite a few negative reviews, we had our reservations. The hotel room (111) cabinet with coffee, tea and kettle definitely needs attention — the top was collapsing. Our room’s toilet flush handle needed to be pressed hard to give it a good flush and bath tap was very stiff changing from bath to shower mode, and where a number of hooks on the shower curtain had broken they had just doubled up on some of the holes. Also, all the screws fixing the opening windows to the frames were loose, and the gardens hadn't been weeded for some time. These are just niggles however, overall the accommodation and service were fine. The white double glazed conservatory jarred against the period Cotswold stone building, but was light and airy. In many places the wall paper is marked and is peeling off on corners, scratched/damaged wood work is everywhere — hence it looks “tired” and outdated. Parts of the hotel have a certain Japanese feel to it (not gloss wood work? ) and remind me of a certain era the way the Japanese looking in a Western world. Is it necessary to “update” the decor looking like something out from a Ikea catalogue to look good and to be environmental unfriendly? The ground is wonderful. It can do with a bit more maintenance. It would be good to have a Japanese theme garden (may be less work to maintain). Their Japanese breakfast is miso soup with tofu and wakame, rice, natto (fermented soybeans) and dried seaweed.

The hotel was in a lovely rural setting, the room was very spacious and clean and the staff were very friendly. We would stay at Stanton House Hotel if the need arose, however we would never dine at Mount Fuji Restaurant again! After reading a couple of negative reviews on trip advisor regarding the reduction in menu, we decided to dine at Mount Fuji as we enjoy Japanese cuisine and the fact that it should be authentic owing to Japanese Executives from Honda using the hotel on a regular basis. We were truly DISAPPOINTED! The starters comprised of a dish of edaname beans in their pods, tasteless squares of wet, sloppy tofu and a few gyozas (of which we would have preferred more). Feeling completely unsatisfied, we were then presented our main meals consisting of one small fatty piece of steak, a few small slices of duck, literally a couple of slithers of carrot and aubergine which we proceeded to cook ourselves on the BBQ — oh and forgot to mention we were also given some lettuce leaves with several sticks of cucumber — can you believe that is a meal for two? — still feeling ravenous we decided to order an astronomical plate of sushi comprising of eight small pieces of sticky rice with a slither of fish on top and although very tasty not worth the cost of £18.00. Still feeling hungry we had no option but to order a small dessert which was very nice. At over £50 per head we thought it was a complete rip off.

Probably the best Sushi in the UK — best visited on a Thursday when they run an all-you-can-eat buffet. Sushi is fresh and tastes very authentic. If only the staff were a little more attentive as they can take a long time to come back to your table.

Looking for a Japanese restaurant near Abingdon open on a monday night, this came up as the closest. It seems like a bit of a posh hotel, and it certainly has a beautiful setting, in old english buildings. It's only a small bit off from a Honda plant, and you'll probably see some execs from there. They do obviously cater to Japanese people, with a fully Japanese website describing the place (don't worry, clicking the link here gets you the english one first), but there's no terrible ingrish to worry about. When you get to the hotel itself, there is ample parking space on its own terrain, and it's not hard to figure out the route from Swindon while driving there. The main entrance already has signs guiding you towards the restaurant proper. It's important to note that it is accessed by stairs, which might be an issue for some. The decoration is a touch modern, but not in a pushy way, and contains many elements of traditional Japanese art. Especially noteworthy are the many images of mount Fuji along the stairs. One is expected to relinquish shoes when entering, which might be interesting to know for those of you who didn't do their nails. It's a small restaurant, with only four tables, so do take to heart the advice to call them in advance to reserve a place for yourselves. The tables allow you to sit in a Japanese way, but also contain legroom beneath for those who couldn't stand to crouch down so long. You can sit normally if that's what you prefer.
