Beautiful setting to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Fantastic service, the food was amazing especially the blade of beef, cooked to perfection. Will will most definitely be back! 5 🌟

It was so welcoming the minute you walked in the staff couldn't have done anymore … the pub us beautiful & the food was amazing.

Rooms were absolutely spotless and staff were super friendly. Unfortunately it was only a fleeting visit so didn't get to enjoy the bar, but we loved the decor!

If you have all the time in the world fine! But staying for work purposes and just not efficient, nor hospitable. Very dissappointed.

Nice, homemade food, tasty and well presented. Friendly and helpful staff. The only criticism I've got, is that it took 25 minutes before we received the starters and another 20 minutes for the main meal. Still, I would recommend to give it a try!

Stop here when in the area. Friendly staff and clean rooms, some floors at a bit of a angle but that's to do with the age of the place. Not seen a ghost yet.

Went for a lunch. Restaurant was quiet. Lovely wooden panelling and old pictures. Toilets were nice. Food was high quality and the service was good. Would recommend and certainly will go back.

Stayed at this lovely hotel last week was very impressed, spacious family room with large tv, great breakfast and supper and plenty variety at the bar.
Staff where kind and and very helpful and went the extra mile as our daughter left her favourite toy behind and they where kind enough to post it to us, would definitely recommend.

We enjoyed a very nice Buffet lunch for Mothers Day! it was very good value for 3 courses & was all delicious.

Great restaurant quality food and excellent courteous service. All in a relaxed comfortable environment. Bar is friendly and cosy with a healthy amount of customer interaction. I make a point of visiting most weeks.

Really quaint little place that has piano and sing a longs on a Friday & Saturday. On a night out with work so got a family room which was great — breakfast wasn't included which was a shame. But would definitely stay again.

Most of the food was nice, but one dish was extremely salty and service took longer than expected. Would give it another go, but only if they had a discounted night of some kind.

I had my wedding here (June 2018) everything was perfect. The food was amazing! The staff were amazing! We had a great day would highly recommend to anyone! Thank you again for everything you did for our wedding!

Drinks pricey and pianist advertised as starting at 8pm but still nothing at 9pm. We shouldn’t have rushed our dinner.

Old world from the outside, but inside its really nice, selling good food and also a lovely courtyard to the rear if the weather is good.

Very very pleasant stay. You can really feel the history in this place right down to the uneven floors an ceilings Very friendly welcome and stay from all the friendly staff. Also the food was excellent and a very well stocked bar with a wide variety on offer.

We went here very last minute due to being let down by another restaurant all I have to say on this was they were exceptional not only did the staff make the night which was a special occasion but they went the extra mile to put candels on the dessert. We will 100% be coming back and the white Hart is worth a visit from anyone in the area :)

Nice atmosphere but food was a little disappointing. Both our mains were overdone, the steak to a degree it was burnt. We had ordered it medium rare. The staff were very friendly and accomodating however and did discount the majority of the dish. Overall a little pricey for what's being served.

Located within easy walk to St Albans high Street and about 10 minutes from the mosaic. Food was OK, although the vegetables were a little cold (I had the carvery). Not many options on the menu.

One of my favourite hotels close to London. Antique atmosphere combined with modern comfort and in the meantime good escape from crowded crazy London. They had charming lobby bar with reference to the old times and the bed was perfect. I was amazed how ancient, but well prezerved is the building.

Lovely restaurant in quaint old building just across the road from the Abbey. Very friendly and helpful staff. Didn't need to stay overnight in accommodation.

A superb vintage hotel that maintains its Medieval feel. It pays to go on cheap weekends as you might get a discount on a bigger room. Best thing is; Friday and Saturday night there is a live pianist in the bar with a sing-a-long!

Lovely stay if a bit nosiey with people walking to London Road car park.

Went for food and drinks during the Christmas market. It was understaffed and meant a long delay on getting food. We did not have a booking however our order was taken shortly after sitting down and no word was given concerning food delays.

Set in the heart of the city this very old hotel offers a comfortable night in very traditional settling. Staff very helpful and tolerant. A nice evening in can be had with its bars and restaurant.

The hotel was great, interesting and welcoming. The room and general access were good and fine for a two star place. Breakfast staff and food slightly let it down.

This wonderful hotel with endless amounts of character and charm would have got 5 stars if it wasn't for just a couple of points.
Firstly, there was a lot of banging doors until gone 2am. As a lot of the building is wood framed this banging reverberated around the place making sleep difficult. We stayed on a Saturday night so some noise is expected but the comings and goings from downstairs seemed a little more than you'd normally expect.
Secondly, we checked out at 9.15am Sunday morning. As we left our room we went through the "residents lounge" to exit the building and I was surprised to see half a dozen people sitting on the tables quaffing cans of Stella and glugging Strongbow to their hearts content. This kind of shifted the hotel from "character" to "eccentric"
On a more positive note, the superior double was not really anything special but the bathroom was exceptional. The bath was huge with loads of hot water and the separate shower was a very good size too.
The boss and all the staff were very polite and readily helpful.
We'd go back again, and indeed hope to soon for the ghost tour. Hopefully without the street drinkers in the next room.

From the moment we walked in the Manager (I think? ) made us very welcome and did everything possible to accommodate our requirements. All staff were great, food was lovely. It was however a real struggle for the 3 vegetarians in our party. No option on the Sunday roast except to have the fish which were £30-£35 a piece, way too steep for a carvery meal! Other options of rice or pasta dishes were all seafood options which were no good for 2 of our veggies! A simple but roast or veggie Wellington would have been great. The waiting staff really did try but unfortunately the menu and kitchen flexiblity didn't support them.

Great location. Our satnavs struggled to find it. Lovely Tudor property. Best rooms are at the side rather than the front. We had 3 rooms. The superior side room was large and homely. Bar was nice. Staff were great. Helpful and kind. Car park is large, though a little tricky to get in to as I have a VW transporter van. I would stay again.

Bit tatty but quaint. Rooms clean. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg excellent. Staff helpful.

Good atmosphere. Roast dinner and sticky toffee pudding were divine. Can't wait to go back.

I stayed at this hotel with some friends and we were all very impressed by the accommodation. We stayed in one of the Maws, a holiday home type accommodation. For the price we had a brilliant place to stay, I would have been happy to stay there for a week instead of a single night. Highly recommend.

Stayed in the family suite — great shower, TV and Wi-Fi. Historical but convenient location not far from train station and shops. Very nice morning breakfast and lovely staff, especially Ross!

Lovely slightly ramshackle experience, with great help from the staff when we decided to stay another night unexpectedly. Not for you if you like bland modern hotels. I'll be back!

Arrived on the off chance of a one night vacancy. Very warm welcome, stayed two. Cosy, very good food, fair wine list. Great Malt Scotch. Actually got some work done. Can't wait to go again, this time I shall book.

We've been regulars at the White Hart Tap since moving to St. Albans a dozen years ago. We tend to visit during the day, mostly at the weekend, for food with our two young kids. The food here is excellent. The menu is always evolving. The Sunday Roast is a family favourite and dad (that's me) loves the always interesting mix of guest ales. Vegetarians are well catered for here and, during the day, families welcomed. Sure, the staff all know us by name since we've been visiting for so long, and treat us like friends when we arrive, but we suspect that you'd get the same reception after just a couple of visits. Oh, and the beer garden is sun drenched and spacious — summer afternoons spent here are a real treat. Free Wi-Fi and newspapers too. Did we mention we rather like this place.

Great little pub with a lovely big beer garden. They have nice ale on tap and the lager selection isn't bad either.

Gorgeous historical hotel. Couldn't find a better English breakfast anywhere else in England! Stayed in the family room, comfy beds and lovely bathroom with a great shower! Close to all the historical attractions. Highly recommend.

One on the oldest buildings in the town, The White Hart is only 100 metres from the Abbey and the old town. All the rooms are different. Almost all have been refurbished in the last 2 years and all the rooms are ensuite with a mixture of power showers, baths or both in the Superior rooms. Great value and friendly, family run hotel.

Friendly pub. Didn't try the food. Two cats, both rather aloof.

This place looks great on outside and the dining room is awesome but our room and bed and bathroom was horrible. The room was warm and only a small window to open for any air. They told us we had wireless in the room but it never worked and had to go to lobby to use wireless. We were in the Large Family room which is on top floor. Needed a map to find it. Staff was no very friendly and house keeper was down right rude. I can not justify recommending this place to anyone. Parking is very tight in a small back lot. I recommend you think twice before booking this place. Value is good but then again you get what you pay for. Don't expect much here except the charm of the old building.

Enjoy many a night in the tap. Normally in the "boardroom" ;) Loads of beer and ales to suit. Beer festival once a year on the bank holiday week in August with music and bbq and loads and loads of ales. Always good fun :).

I stayed in the White Heart for two nights on the Bank Holiday weekend and found it to be a rather mixed experience. One member of staff was particularly helpful with local information. The same cannot be said for the man I took to be the Manager and/or Head Barman. He never smiled and although he was reasonably helpful he managed to help in a resentful way. For example, I booked online and choose the room with a four poster bed. When I received the key to room 6, it was not the four poster and indeed looked to be a very shabby black divan. I went back to reception and was accordingly given room 7 with the comment that particular rooms were not allocated online and an even more grumpy ‘It was a genuine mistake’. Twice during the weekend I heard staff refer to each other as being ‘cranky’ because they were tired. As a guest I do not want to hear this as an excuse. Also, when I expressed surprise that the weekend breakfast started as late as 9 am the manager/barman said crossly ‘It isn’t late if you are working’. The continental breakfast was dull, no fruit or yogurt and limited cereal. The worst part of the weekend was the toilet seat. Although the room was cleaned well, the wooden seat was split and frayed at the front. Quite frankly this is a germ trap and not what one would expect when paying £70+ for a room. There was no information of any kind in the room or in the bar — times of breakfast, type of breakfast, where places of interest are.
