The staff were lovely and friendly and the surrounding area great for walking. We enjoyed a 1 night stay on a travelzoo deal which included breakfast and a delicious Afternoon Tea.

Stayed here over a weekend to celebrate my birthday. Weather was horrible due to the storms but the staff were fantastic and battled on. Really helpful, couldn’t do enough for the guests and made the experience marvellous. Big shout to Maddy who looked after us and was a star. Hotel itself was smashing, cosy by the log burner and comfy beds. Food great too so would recommend a stay here.

Stayed in the treehouse and it was amazing as was restaurant and bar with great service, well done to everyone who works at the Fox and Hounds for making our stay a very comfortable and relaxing one, with every single staff member being so kind and helpful.

Lovely lovely staff, first outing for our Rhodesian Ridgeback Puppy and we were made to feel so comfortable… they all went out of their way to help with our boy. We stayed in Room 24, great size for us and our dog crate is huge, lovely touch when we got in the room of doggy treats. We will definitely be back. Xxx.

A traditional Devon hotel and restaurant with a modern twist. Friendly and efficient staff with exceptional food from chef Tom. If you havent experienced the Fox and Hounds trencher you need too! Its great value, cooked exceptionally and one of the tastiest meals ive ever had. A must if you live locally or visit Devon.

Have always loved this place, for various celebrations over the years and we had our wedding here. Our last visit was an over night stay with our two dogs and a meal for my birthday. It was fantastic, food, staff, room, breakfast. The dog exercise area is lovely, by the river too so they had their first proper swim. I would recommend to anyone! Thanks team xx.

All around FANTASTIC! An absolutely amazing wedding venue only topped by their friendly and helpful staff.
From booking our wedding 2 years in advance we made several trips and every single time we were met with enthusiasm.
When it came to planning, Maddie & Tara couldn’t have been more helpful (but they would have definitely tried). They were open to all our ideas and leading up to the wedding, Maddie kept us calm, collected and up to date. She was always an email away if… we had any worries or questions.
As for the venue itself, the hotel and all of the guest rooms were spacious and beautiful with a cosy bar that really makes you feel at home.
We stayed in the luxury Treehouse behind the hotel which we considered a must for a romantic weekend as soon as we saw it and it didn’t disappoint. Mind-blowing, to the point where we had to show all our guests just how amazing it was.
Even with a little rain our big day couldn’t have gone smoother. Maddie was on hand throughout the day, keeping perfect time and making sure the whole day was the best it could be (which it was).
Our garden ceremony was beautiful and intimate. The flowers has just bloomed and we needed very little decoration because in itself the greenery was spectacular. Plus, even with rain our guests could enjoy it with little worry as the parasols kept them dry.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the fox and hounds. The staff were fantastic and we were able to decorate and use the hotel as we wanted for the day and night. I would definitely recommend the venue and the garden is beautiful!

Incredible time away in the treehouse! Luxury and relaxation all round! Highly recommended for something different.

We booked this hotel through Pets Pyjamas as we wanted to bring our puppies away with us for a few days. I can honestly say we were far from disappointed. Our puppies were given a goodie bag on arrival, and they also had 2 boxes of treats laid out in the room for them too. They treat dogs like royalty and will do anything to please. Staff were professional and very very polite and attentive. We booked dinner for the 1st evening and I decided have the Scotch Egg Starter, this was the best Scotch Egg I've ever tasted. The main meal was also delicious. Breakfast on the 1st morning I had the 3 egg haddock omelette. It was the best ever again. Room was extremely clean and quiet. Very spacious and with a lovely bath. Bed was very firm and very comfortable. I do believe the Chef needs to be paid a high wage for the quality home made food. Cream tea is also good with the Scone being very light and tasty. Overall 12 out of 10 from all of us.

Rooms are old and outdated with no air conditioning (and no fan to borrow) and gross carpet. Bathroom could only be described as quaint. The service was good and staff was very nice and friendly, however the food and "cocktails" were mediocre at best. Selection at bar was unimpressive.

Wonderful location, beautiful hotel. I can't say enough for the service. Our superior room was excellent for ourselves and our adult son. Delicious food, be sure to have dinner there.

To say our wedding day was perfect would be an understatement. We cannot put into words how much, my husband and I, and our friends and family enjoyed our time at Fox and Hounds in Eggesford on 30/06/18. Tara and the team couldn’t have done more for us, the food was fantastic and the whole hotel is stunning! I could seriously go on forever but the key thing to mention is we would recommend Fox and Hounds without a shadow of a doubt! Thank you so much — can’t wait to return xxx.

Great location for exploring Devon. Lovely, friendly, caring and kind team of staff. All meals excellent with just the right amount of choice. Food prepared and cooked to protection. 10/10 for quality.

Just had a wonderful night in this hotel everything about it is fantastic the staff are friendly and efficient the food was outstanding and the room very quaint and clean can’t wait to return very soon.

We celebrated my daughter's wedding a the F&H. We found every member of staff very helpful and professional. Excellent service and wonderful food. Always well presented. The Events Manager was relaxed and yet aware of the need to make sure the event went without a hitch. Definitely worth a visit for the food if nothing else.

Lovely place to stay. Only needed for an overnight stay and I opted against breakfast, but it was exactly what I needed. Pleasant service, pleasant environment!

What a wonderful place even for one night working stay, night time staff marvellous, same for the early morning staff, good range of food and a breakfast to die for. Hope I win the contract I was there for, would love to stay longer.

Food is amazing (both room service and breakfast), rooms are amazing and we had our own private balcony, grounds are lovely, in the middle of nowhere. Can't fault the place or staff who were exceptional. 5* all around.

Great place to stay and eat. Room was fantastic though took a while for hot water to make it to the shower. We were up in the top rooms though. Food was fantastic. Whole place had a lovely feel to it with the staff very welcoming and helpful.

My granddaughter won her wedding here, the place was wonderful and the staff fantastic, could not fault it at all, food also brilliant.

Apart from being stuck in the middle of nowhere, this is a superb place to eat and stay — spacious and homely building, very clean and welcoming. Dog friendly for those who value this (I don't, but it was not intrusive for non-doggy types). Accessible by rail from Eggesford Station too. Excellent staff and good quality and sensibly priced food and drinks, including a real ale in fine condition.

Clean tidy dog friendly hotel. Nice size room, dinning Area was clean and we'll set out if you had a dog it was allowed in. Breakfast area again well set out but no dogs allowed in this area tables were room numbered so you didn't have search for a table. The staff were very polite and friendly. I would recommend this stay to family and friends.

I was there for a wedding. Lovely day in nice surroundings. Drinks were very expensive and buffet was poor for vegetarians, but regular menu is good.

I was staying in the Village of CHawleigh and took my Grandama there when she visited and it was lovely. The food was cooked to perfection and the waitresses were attentive and polite.

Had a wedding here last year and it went perfectly. The staff were incredible and went out of their way to make it the perfect day for us. The food was gorgeous and service fantastic. Lots of guests highlighted how lovely it was, woukd yoyally recommend.

Nice clean hotel. Good for hunting or fishing base. And if your on a cycling holiday. I imagine it would be a good hotel. Prices are reasonable for area.

Attended a wedding reception so only really saw the bar area, however the service was great also the staff were friendly and helpful.

The best place ever, particularly if you are a labrador! Stayed for a 2 night deal with Groupon as a Christmas present to each other. No children but took our faithful dog Winston! This place is so dog friendly for a rather plush and fancy hotel. The staff are the stars of the show though, which is saying something as everything else is also just excellent! Great room, breakfast all ready to go before we had even got to the restaurant, perfect food in the evening (particularly my pigeon starter and the guinea fowl main course), but as I say what makes it are staff that make you feel welcome and special during your stay and all 7 or so members of the team who interacted with us in some way were fantastic. Friendly chats, helpful service and one even fetched a spare dog lead from home for us when we had forgotten ours! Winston had exercise areas, a dog pack on arrival including a treat and was very welcome everywhere. Then we come to the cost. Unbelievable! Just great value, food is excellent quality and the little extras are so reasonable. We ordered fresh coffee for two in our room with hot milk one afternoon and it cost less than a latte at Starbucks. Fantastic. For reference, it's January 2015 and I can happily say that at 39, I just have not stayed anywhere better than this and I've stayed in quite a few places! Most highly recommended!

Great building and remote Hotel, 18 rooms only and alas trying to run on a budget, short staffed (who were very friendly and polite) who seemed very over worked. Wasn't told that dogs are allowed to be bought in by guests… (but in the dining room at dinner also! ). Lots of whining. Everything seemed limited by choice. Even the breakfast when you had to ask for everything … again due to staff shortages. The dinner menu needs to be more traditional English rather than Haute cuisine. Maybe its just a country thing…? and Im a towney.
