Really enjoyed our meal, lovely, friendly staff. We will be back. Recommend this place for a nice relaxing meal.

Recently visited the Mill Wheel for the first time. Lovely atmosphere, friendly team and the food was great. Will definitely visit again and thoroughly recommend.

Delicious food, beautifully decorated and lovely friendly staff. Service was a little slow as was busy but everything else made up for that.

Food was spot on, staff extremely polite and professional. Excellent value for money. A must go to place if you are about.

Family was out celebrating a special birthday, Nothing was to much trouble, socially distanced tables, food was excellent and staff great, definitely recommend.

Amazing place, proper English pub and restaurant, staff are great and dog friendly too! The evening menu is a must, the beer is great and the food are all classic, quality English dishes. Can’t wait to take the family.

Expensive for what you get and the service is a joke, food was dry and hard for a pie and 2 had Thai chicken which had hardly any chicken in it very disappointed, wanted another round of drinks before we went waited 15 mins and still nobody came to the bar. If only they had half a star and just to add I was given a £30 voucher at Christmas and they are only valid for 5 months 6 maybe depending when it was brought gone down hill big time from when I was last there.

Friendly and polite staff, happy to accommodate any reasonable request. Popped in on Fathers Day and ordered roast pork cobs, were told there would be quite a wait but we were served within 15mins! Lovely outside seating area which catches the afternoon sun.

Turned up this evening and staff were extremely accommodating for a table, with out a booking. Beautiful building, just my sort of place, with beams, bricks and the actual old Mill Wheel still in the building. Food was very nice, just the right portion size. A beer festival is currently on this Bank Holiday weekend, so lots of choice, of which we are sampling.

Great country pub. Nice decor, great pub classic dishes, good ales and wine selection in a smart, friendly village. A smashing little stop. We often eat here with the kids and pop in for a glass or two. It's just what a country pub should be. Would recommend.

Nice little pub with a restaurant upstairs. Food was good and staff pleasant. Decor downstairs is very nice but upstairs is a bit scruffy but not a deal breaker. Recommended.

We came here with friends. Great first impressions from the building. Sadly, not impressed with the food or the speed of service. The pizza was apparently very nice (made fresh), however my burger was disappointing (fairly tasteless, probably frozen) and the children's fish was just half of an adult's portion, which looked like a cheap frozen one. Worse, it was beer battered. So the kids ate expensive chips and peas. Despite booking a table, and having two young children present, we waited over half an hour for our order to be taken — the whole lunch affair took over 2 hours.

Found this lovely place by accident while returning home after purchasing a car, looks great from the roadside and even better on the inside, when you walk in, the mill wheel is on show and immediately gets your attention, walking through to the bar you immediately notice a lovely log fire (perfect on a winters night and smells wonderful) and a well stocked bar, the guy who works behind the bar is great and very attentive! The real ale selection is great, I had the Jaipur IPA, it was spot on. Definitely be returning soon! Great to see places like this still thriving.

Enjoyed my 2017 Christmas meal here with family and friends. Great place, great food and great company.

Christmas Dinner was a bit of a let down. Starter — Brie, lovely Main — lamb shank, tough and chewy Desert — tiny slice of rhubarb tart with hard chunks of what looked like gelatin. Disappointed as I always wanted to go here.

Have eaten here many times but today was exceptional. Venison pie and steamed veg, steak and ale pie with veg. Excellent beer and wine all at a good price. Service, welcoming, above all genuinely happy to serve you and give you the best value for money. If you have a problem raise it. It will be 100% sorted. However this will be a very rare event here. 10 out of 10 all round. Keep up the good work.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Great place, lovely atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff… what more could you ask for! Fantastic in every respect! Highly recommended.

Stopped off here while on a mission to find someone and was greeted by the best host ever, lol! He made a great coffee and we had to stay for the bogof pizza which was the business. The pub itself was so charming, staff welcoming and food excellent. Well done Eugene. ❤

Would not go here for food not much of a chioce on menu shame as the pub itself is really nice and cosey.

They squeezed us in on a sunday lunch and we werent disapointed, all home made and very tastey. Impressed.

Nice place with lots of history including the low wood beamed bar and the feature glass housed mill wheel (non operational). Stopped for a quick bite to eat late on a Saturday. Menu was still the lunch menu but this still had plenty to choose from, meal was cooked and presented well. Choice of beers, wines and etc was good. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. The Evening menu looked great pity we missed it.

We decided to have our wedding reception at the mill wheel and it's was the best decision we have ever made. They went above and beyond anything we was expecting and nothing was to much trouble. Eugene and Rita are the most beautiful people and the standard of staff was amazing. I would highly recommend this venue for any occasion x thank you so much x.

I called in for a pint and a packet of crisps while walking the National Forest Way, which goes alongside. Lovely beer on their very pleasant patio, and friendly, helpful staff. Sadly, probably the only visit I'll ever make.

We came in on our way back from conkers, we were made very welcome by Leanne thank you. I had the steak and ale pie it was delicious my wife had fish as did the children, all meals were excellent, we finished off with sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownies, this is a really nice place to eat and the food is really tasty. Leanne Made our children so welcome and eve found them some crayons and a colouring book to occupy them while we were waiting. George says hello.

First impressions of the Mill Wheel was that it looked lovely. Definitely the type of place we would like to enjoy a Sunday roast though sadly we never had the opportunity to try the food as we were told we could not have the beef roast as there were a lot of bookings due who might want beef and it had to be saved in case. As the meal would have come to well over £30 we had hoped to ordered what we'd liked. If they had ran out of beef it would have been fair enough that we had to choose something else, but placing some customers over others tarnished our first impressions and we left to seek our meal elsewhere, which is a shame considering it did look a nice pub.

The promo leaflet says you'll be made to feel like a regular from your first visit and it really is true, we dropped in on the way back from an afternoon at Calke Abbey and even though it was obviously a busy evening we were warmly welcomed and fitted in. Theres a great choice of classics on the menu and we were served quickly with generous portions. The beef dripping chips were gorgeous and the steak and ale pie was packed with meat, My fish had a gorgeous crispy batter but I did ask to take my left overs home as it was so large (not because I'd "sampled" most of my Mums dinner too) Most of all the genuinely friendly atmosphere is what I'll return for.

Was brought here for my birthday and received amazing service as well as fantastic food (steak, Stilton and bacon pizza made just for me! )
The manager (I believe? ) served us and he is such a character he adds to the wonderful atmosphere given!
Definitely recommend and will definitely be back for more seafood platters!

Cosy pub with good range of real ale and good food.

Recently reopened under new management. Decent pub food at fair prices. Interior is attractive and cosy. Selling point for us was the friendliness of the staff, especially the maître d'.

Meal took 2 1/2 hours to arrive.

I went to the Mill Wheel for sunday lunch with family. We waited over an hour for our meals to arrive. Whem the waitress was asked why is it taking so long. She replied all the cheque went in at once. Yet plp were eating meals &puds b4 us. The price at the top of menu said £9, 95 for 1 course, £13.95 for two course. Yet we were charged £4.00 for puds that were not worth 4.00. Four of us had puds. 3 of us didnt. Our bill came to £100.00 in total for seven of us. Which we thought was expensive. All in all the food was lovely. Puds were a bit disdapointing for the price. Waitress need to deal with customers better. Then just thobbing them off.

Superb food and excellent friendly service in a nice setting. Driving up to the Mill Wheel in the dark you'll be greeted with fairy light lit up trees and an old barn style building. Inside its a nice cosy bar with casual sofa seating and low tables. The restaurant is on the first floor and has a rustic feel. Service was very good with a friendly personal touch. Food was superb. Very well presented and well cooked. Well with a visit.
