Stayed at the beginning Of December after visiting Chatsworth house. Pleasantly surprised, everything about the place was good. The rooms are quite big and yet cosy. We had 2 rooms…1 had a large bathroom with a bath and the other had, again, a large bathroom but with a very spacious shower. Really comfortable and would stay again. The evening meal and the breakfasts were really good and the staff are very welcoming.

Stayed here several times and never been let down. New refurbished and very nice this stay was no different. Room was lovely and cozy. Ate here 2 nights. 1st night we had pie which was recommended by Alice (she knows her stuff. ) 2nd night was steak to die for. Staff are extremely good and helpful. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thank you all.

We visited on Friday evening, and had a brilliant evening. The atmosphere was so lovely and the food was just as good! They had a brilliant singer on that just tied everything in nicely. Will definitely be visiting again. Thankyou so much for accommodating us.

Very pleased, especially with the level of customer service. Our waitress was Leah who was so lovely helping with recommendations and checking we were ok, really felt like a personal service, she’s a credit to Marstons! The assistant manager also popped to say hello and was equally lovely and attentive! Our food was lovely, if honest the pastry on the pie was too hard for my liking but the ale was lush! My partner did say the bruschetta was nice but wasn’t really a bruschetta. It would normally be ciabatta with small cut up marinated tomatoes and a drizzle of balsamic as opposed to toast, cherry tomatoes and lots of balsamic. Both desserts were great! In particular the chocolate dome. Both very impressed with the cocktails, my boyfriend is very particular with his Old Fashioned’s but he said it’s one of the best he’s had. The variety of breakfast options was impressive and I loved that the biscuit at the side of my cuppa was a bourbon and not just a typical packet of lotus! One thing we absolutely loved though was the decor. Our whole time there we were looking around going “we’d love that in our house” and wow this feels so cosy! Big well done to your interior designer… can they come do our house please? :D Hotel room was great, everything you need and more. So glad to have plug sockets at the side of the bed and the option for a cuppa! Thank you for our stay, we will definitely recommend and be back!

Campsite in grounds. Reasonably priced food.

We had lunch on Saturday. We were offered a large table for 4 adults as we had large dogs with us The staff are ver friendly and professional. The dogs were brought clean drinking water and a handful of biscuits. We stayed in the campsite which is well organised with beautifully clean toilets and showers, pot washing facilities Definitely will be going again.

Disappointed in our food, very basic. Staff didn't know what offers were on, staff rude on the except of the young pregnant lady she was very pleasant and chatty. Dull uninspiring pub… felt like we were an inconvenience. We will not return and not recommend to others.

Lovely outside area and great for drinks — we tried to eat Sunday evening after being told they served till 9 but alas when we arrived at 8 no food! Undeterred we went back today and ordered lamb — it was standard — the seasonal greens consisted of cabbage and spring onion — I then ordered a cuppa the best part of which was the custard cream that came with it & definitely not the tea bag! Good mediocre at best!

Absolutely shocking Say down was asked if we wanted a drink I said yes and was ready to order The waitress then said she would take our order once the drinks were delivered Drinks were delivered — no waitress Waited 10 mins and had to ask someone to get her to take out order 10 minutes later a man came over and stated the one of the things we ordered was not available so we chose something else Another 10 minutes passed then the waitress came over and said something else was out of stock So 30 minutes with no food and nothing we actually ordered in stock What a farce We obviously left immediately and went to bakewell for the chippy and a pudding What a disgrace Will never visit again.

Turned away on 7 occasions from an empty pub because we hadn’t booked, which we had never done in all the years we had enjoyed meals there, very sad.

The rooms are lovely, Really spacious and the bar staff are brilliant — really friendly people. The food at lunch was great but dinner was disappointing to be honest. Would still recommend on a quiet day. Really nice walks and views. Love the fact its a dog friendly pub!

Just had a great stay at this lovely place set in beautiful surroundings Staff are great especially Beth and Tam and even the housekeeping lady was a great help and friendly (sorry didn’t get her name) Will definitely be back 👌 Hari and Surinder.

Our meal was ok, however there were no chicken dishes available as the delivery hadn’t arrived and the side salad didn’t arrive as they had run out of salad leaves. We booked for 6.30 on a Friday evening. The waiting staff were lovely. The pub itself is nicely decorated, clean and spacious.

Stayed on the caravan site for nearly 3 weeks while work being done at home. The manager and her staff were great. We can’t thank them enough for their hospitality 😊🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Popped in just been to shops managed to get a table. But recommend booking food was ok just slow for orders but this is because of table service.

Disappointing! Menus were filthy 🤢. The whole place looked in need of a good clean! Glad we took our hand sanitiser with us. Food was mediocre at best. Sorry to say we won’t be returning.

Breakfast was excellent food — banana pancakes and Caffe mocha. Outdoor seating allowed the canine member of the party to remain with us. No soap in the toilet.

Arrived here today with my parents as they said this place was good food and nice well that was not at all food was expensive and place was dirty seats tablets not clean for what they expected you to pay it needs cleaning cleaning as for table and chairs they need replacing food was not up to much at all will not come again or you need to get it sorted management.

Both myself and guest ordered Rib Eye Steak. The steak had only been seated on one side and no e of the fat seams that give a rib eye it's flavour and provides the succulent meat had been rendered. The steaks were inside leave. Given 2 stars because they were decent enough to swap them for something else and also discounted the bill. Not somewhere I will rush back to.

Friendly welcome. Seated quickly, promptly came for drink order. Food order taken soon after all staff polite, friendly, smiley and efficient. We had scampi chips and peas and beef and ale pie and a plate for my great grandson a large Pepsi Max and large lemonade came to nearly 23 pounds so drinks were about £2 50 meals £8 something I didn't pay so not sure of exact prices my birthday treat from my sister. Nice busy pub the ambiance was good not too noisy. I would certainly eat there again. The food was hot and delicious Thanks.

Amazing friendly staff, very helpful and approachable. Clean and quiet hotel room, a bit dated, but the good amenities. A quiet and distant location, but very charming and relaxing. The staff made my visit very comfortable.

Very well run pub/ restaurant with campsite at the rear on the banks of the River Wye and next to Peak Village shopping outlet. Only 5 m from Bakewell and, 3 m from Chatsworth house. Try the Whole rotisserie chicken for two, including 4 side dishes and 4 buttermilk coujons for £20. Lovely meal.

Nice pub with outdoor seating and car park. It does sandwiches and proper food. Quite welcoming place. Walkers welcome.

Plenty of menu choices… moderately priced, they also have a £6 menu between 12 and 5pm weekdays and a sandwich menu… served by pleasant friendly staff. Lovely outdoor seating area next to children's playground. Great for families as well as adult dining.

My Dish was a Classic Pub Favourite, steak pie, chips and peas. The Meal Was OK. Average. The steak was weak, the crust was harder than a pie should be, but handable. Chips were nice but not brown enough. But for a chain restaurant it's ok. My rate it's 3.8/5

Plenty of seating inside and out. Ample car parking. Excellent selection of beers and wines. Wide menu to suit just about every taste. Full meals and light bites. Reasonable prices. Toilets. Good service. Recommended.

It's ok. Stayed here as a good value option in the area for visiting the Peak District. Accommodation was decent for the price. Food as expected in this kind of pub. Nothing of note really.

Great food, staff that are actually bothered. Lovely room, nice and clean. Would definitely stay again. It's a shame there's no family accommodation, or availability for tents in the camping area. Overall a lovely place with beautiful surroundings.

Pub very nice and service great out server on Friday evening was lovely. However site not very good. We were pitched off the main pitches and were in our view on a pitch that was very boggy and wet. It was also very dark as banked up trees to the rear with a hedge one-sided and trees to the front. Having stayed here before we find it difficult to understand why we were pitched where we were given that other less boggy pitches were available and weren't used while we were there. Also we note from the info sheet given it stated all pitches are on a first come first served basis something we are used to on the Grouse. So why were we told to pitch in 3 given the site wasn't full all weekend. The toilets were disgusting particularly the male side. Both sets were in need of a good thorough clean and the showers needed more frequent cleaning. If you open all year or certainly early late season consideration needs to be given to ensuring the facilities offer cleanliness throughout the day given the surface being a sand mixture which basically gets trodden everywhere. It's been a while since we've been and may well not be back for sometime as it seems more of a motorhome favoured non family site. Shame.

Having gone for a birthday meal with friends we were disappointed. The food itself was nice but however the service lacked. Other tables who came in after us were served before us (it was table service). Getting the waitress attention was impossible, we had to get up and go find her anytime we needed anything. One of our group was choking and a minute later the waitress comes over and tells her to keep the noise down — coughing when choking is to noisy? We had to wait nearly 30 minutes for plates from the main course to be taken and to order dessert as we were being ignored while she served other tables and then did anything but come near our table, we had to get up and tell her we were waiting again. When dessert did come there was tin foil in one of them, when we told the waitress about it she didn't care about it and wasn't bothered. There was no apology to the person who discovered the tin foil in their mouth! Then again we could not get service to get the bill or pay for the meal, another long wait. In end we had to go find her again once payment was made her comment was "now you have paid you can leave"! We were not noisy, we were not rude or disruptive. Some of the things the waitress said throughout the meal were not very good and her service was clearly avoiding our table and gave priority to other tables around us. It was a shame as the food was good (other than the tin foil in it).

Second visit steak was tough snd stringy in parts was embarassed habingvto take out of my mouth salad was very sparse wine and dessert was good.

Very clean. Friendly staff and plenty of food and reasonable prices. Plenty of parking and access for disabled is good. Can get very busy at peak times.

Really lovely place nice and relaxing. Food was excellent. Staff very friendly and would defiantly go back again.

Generally good quality food and service, for a chain pub. There was a slight issue with none of the advertised vegan options being available. Also splitting the bill at the end of the meal could have been easier. We had to work it out ourselves, for a group of 15, because they couldn't apply a discount to specific meals.

Lovely, friendly, and a warm welcoming. A great night in and the staff and owners was very pleasant. Breakfast was superb and the staff went above and beyond.

I think this establishment has changed hands relatively recently as it has re-improved almost to the standard to which it once was. The food is cooked well and the staff seem to be happy and are pretty helpful and polite. The decor is great and the parking is ample for an establishment of this size and in this location. I'm looking forward to my next meal here.

DOG FRIENDLY PUB! Really nice food, really lovely friendly atmosphere and the staff have been brilliant with both us and our dog. They even did a plain chicken breast for her. She wolfed it down and our food was lovely too.

We had a nice meal I chose a burger as I never normally eat them. I was pleasantly surprised. It was well presented and very tasty. Only thing I would say negative about the Grouse and Claret is sometimes the service is a bit slow. Other wise we've never had a bad meal there.

Excellent, the staff brilliant, food lovely. Only wish we had found this place before. Lovely base for our stay in Derbyshire. My wife has always wanted campsite in the area near a stream and a pub for me… we have found one at last. Definatly 5 star!

Called in last night for 1st time since taken over. Staff friendly and food good. After watching the managers help out a old customer from their previous pub help a blind and hard of hearing customer and having time for him cutting his food making sure he knew where everything was it was a pleasure to see them take the time and have pride in what they do.

Lovely pub with great food. Staff attentive and helpful. Stayed for two nights, room wasn't as sharp as the rest of the place. Bathroom a little old fashioned and bath a bit stained. Room was right next to stairs leading up to a flat which was very noisy on a night (had a toddler with us trying to sleep) as kids were running up and down quite late. Breakfast was lovely, no complaints about food at all. Overall nice stay for price but rooms could do with a spruce up.

During a day out driving around the country lanes and towns we just stopped off by chance for lunch before heading home. Upon entering we were greeted by a member of staff who showed us to our table. It was quite busy with a mix of families and couples, old and young. The service was prompt and friendly and the décor seemed quite new and comfortable. Food was of a good standard.

What a great pub this is. Staff are friendly, food is great and very reasonably priced. Place is clean and tidy. Would highly recommend. Walked in with 4 adults and 3 toddlers, (aged 1, 2 &3), no problem. Table next to the play area, which is also great and very useful. When one of the 3 became a bit upset a really nice staff lady came over and tried to bribe him with stickers! Lovely Place!

The menu has a tendency to over-extend itself, but stick to the traditional pub food and you won't be disappointed. Lovely garden away from the road for summer evenings. Children's play area. Great value midweek specials, especially steak night and curry night!

Great location, great food, great staff and … great value for money! We loved it! The Chicken meal was delicious. You have to try it.

Stopped for a couple of drinks and some food. The food was OK. We sat out in the beer garden. Had a bit of a wobbly table and had to prompt them to fetch more knives to refill the cutlery tray. Nothing really too bad but wouldn't rush back.

Set in the picturesque village of Rowsley the Grouse and Claret is an ideal accomodation for discovering the Peak District. Part of Marston Inns the hotel offers B&B with a restaurant for lunch or evening meals after a day out visiting the many sights of Derbyshire. Close to Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Matlock and Bakewell to mention a few. The rooms are cosy, en-suite with a comfy bed, flat screen and tea making facilites. A good choice to rest your head.

Food very good — especially the rotisserie chicken, service and cleanliness were slightly lacking during our visit. Tables weren't cleaned fully and the waiting staff were not very friendly. Service was however quick.

We visit the grouse and claret often! Good staff and good, hearty pub food. My little two year old son was welcome as well as we were seated next to their play are which is a lovely little corner of the restaurant. 5 stars!

This pub has changed managers' so many times and I think it has gone downhill since the couple who retired about 3 years ago. The menu I was presented with had only chicken on it and no variety. The service wasn't great and the food was rather ordinary for the price.

Our party of 4 had a pre booked Xmas Meal on December 4 2015. Everything was excellent. The food was tasty, well presented, hot. The table service was good, prompt and unobtrusive. We had a lovely pre-meal drink from the bar which was a hot pomegranate/raspberry and gingerbread syrup concoction with added Amaretto, which made a change from mulled wine.

Well, it said freshly cooked meats for Sunday lunch! We drove over an hour to meet family to eat plastic beef out of a packet in my opinion, very miss leading from the menu it was clearly. Packet beef, and not member of staff asked us how our meal was, a long drive for a massive disappointment sorry!

Visited on 3th October 2015 Sadly the food is not great, and overly priced. The Lasagne was just watery and mush, and the salad contained a couple of lettuce leafs. The Tagliatelle was overcooked and tasteless. The other meals were just OK. We've paid less for freshly home cooked food. Very disappointing! It's a shame because the pub is in a lovely setting, and looks great inside.

The food was well over priced, very little of it for the money. The drinks were also expensive £9.85 for two pints and a water. The staff were sloth like, one of the barman needs to brush up on spoken English, one waiter needs a personality transplant, Obviously a leadership problem. All in all a very expensive lunch.
