Before the pandemic me and my partner would travel a lot. In July 21 we came across this place. We went for 2 days. Food was amazing kerry and her staff have always got a smile for you. In the 4 years we were travelling we never returned to a place ever. we returned this new year gone having re booked in July. The food was amazing. Kerry and her staff are fantastic and we had an amazing new year. I am a 100% sure we shall return again at some point. If you are looking for a place to stay in matlock we highly recommend this place. our stay was fantastic thank you all xx.

Kerry and all of her team are amazing. They couldn't do enough for us! The staff are so friendly and happy to help. The food is delicious especially the breakfast! I would highly recommend a stay here. You won't be disappointed. I can't thank kerry and her staff enough for everything they have done 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

My friends and I have just spent a few nights here, it was so friendly and the staff gave us a warm welcome in the bar area … we stayed in the stables and they were beautiful and clean, and the breakfast was excellent, thank you xx.

Clean place… Friendly staff. Great food.

Ok. So… room is ok but bathroom is awful. TV is tiny and the creaking from above is terrible. Green King it advertised but is not. So… a bit disappointed. Virtially no attendance to wanting food, lots of local yelling and just hindering our stay. So overall I dont think we will come back.

Wonderful place, rooms are lovely and the staff are amazing and the little cat is soo cute. The food is amazing and beautifully presented and freshly made. Cannot reccommend it enough.

Fantastic family pub and b&b great service, friendly helpful staff, highly recommend the family room was spacious and had all home comforts plus added touches such as toys and kid size furniture. Breakfast was delicious excellent value for money 5 star!

We spent three nights here. Had a lovely relaxed stay. We ate full English breakfasts, very large portion, set us up for the day. The Duke of Wellington, is busy in the evenings, popular. Would definitely return.

Pretty decent pub fare. Good portions and all the usual suspects for pub grub at a decent price.

Called in for Sunday lunch late they serve from 12-6pm on a Sunday. Good choice of meats very reasonably priced we were even able to get a mixed meat roast. They had a beer festival on also so beer was welcomed at a good price. Staff were helpful and obliging, bar area can be a little noisy but we found a quiet spot as we needed to discuss things.

We went in for a meal. I must say all meals except one was lovely. One meal tasted off and so we sent it back. She ended having a bowl of chips even though she had paid for a meal. We asked for a partial refund and this was flatly refused. I think it would have been nice to offer something back in return when your food wasn't up to any standard to eat. I hope you improve your customer service for everyone who has an issue. As it was not very good service at all.

Good ales but the food was below average on my last visit — I was served a steak and kidney PUDDING which had been BAKED so the pastry was rock hard!

Very nice separate blocks of concerted rooms. Food was lovely and pleasant waiting staff. Our group had 3 rooms. Ours was the family room nice room with a small room off it with bunk beds and ensuite full sized bathroom with shower. However the main staff are very abrupt, rude and not at all friendly, welcoming or pleasant either in person or on the phone. Would not recommend purely based on attitudes. Everything seems an inconvenience to them. It’s nice to be important but more important to be nice which they are definitely not. Totally spoiled our lovely charity walk weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay we stay for one night with our 2 doggies, the doggie friendly room was lovely, the staff was very welcoming and the food was excellent and it was nice cos the dogs was allowed to come with us for a evening Meal and breakfast. We will Definitely be going back and recommend.

Had the best Sunday roast in a long time, 3 different veg perfectly done (very unusual these days), plenty of roast and mashed potatoes and an excellent helping of meat with Yorkshire pud. Would highly recommend.

Stayed on business, we arrived just in time for the food (stopped serving at 8). The staff were very acommodating, we had our food cooked whilst we went to our room for a quick shower and it was ready for us when we got back, it was good quality food. The rooms were average size but clean and comfortable. I'd definitely recommend.

Excellent service, warm and friendly bar staff. A good all round rang of beers. Plus they have doggie snacks — dogs appear to be welcome!

8 of us for lunch, all said their food good and service good. We are using here as the default lunch stop now.

Hubby and I just had Sunday lunch, he had a large roast, I had the small one, as there is always too much for me. Just the right amount for me, and hubby got through the large one with no trouble. Very tasty, and the beef just melted in the mouth. Will be back, thanks, great friendly staff as well.

So-So! Hod food here while staying at a holiday cottage, after seeing the reviews online. Food was ok — burger was nice, salad good and the coleslaw was nice but the thing that let it down wa that there was at least a dozen fries that were burned to a crisp! Bearing in mind that the rest were fine, this can only mean that they were left over from a previous frying! I mean this is basics — how hard is it to make sure all of them are out when you finish? — does make me wonder what other basics aren't done properly.

Good pub. A guy working for Guniness bought me feel drinks most of the night and I was told by a Tom Jones tribute act that I have a unique style that he admires.

We were greated by a very helpful landlady, provided with a beautiful room at a reasonable price. Had breakfast which was very good and a great location.

We arrived quite late into the evening which wasn't a problem. We walked down some steep steps to get into the pub from the car park and we were met with friendly staff who showed us to our rooms. We were right at the end in a four poster bed. The room was nicely decorated and very clean on the surface but the bed was a big disappointment. It didn't have the expected curtains around the bed, instead it had a dusty net/viola across the top. Nothing on the sides, not as you'd expect a four poster to be dressed. The mattress was awful. It needs replacing. I could feel every spring and lump and bump there was. The room was quite hot-good job we bought a fan with us. The bathroom was adequate, no complaints about that. We were woken early in the morning by traffic rumbling past and the people in the room next door going to the toilet (which you could hear quite clearly). We didn't eat or drink at the pub so cannot comment on the food quality. No phone signal or Wi-Fi in the room. The TV was awkwardly placed and was blocked by one of the posts of the four poster bed. It wasn't set up either and it took a while for us to be able to watch it. The remote was also hit and miss when trying to change the channel. The volume button didn't work at all. Overall, it wasn't a terrible place to stay but it did not live up to our expectations.

Made to feel welcome nothing is to much trouble staff friendly and always smiling the food from breakfast to evening meals are excellent, rooms are clean well maintained plenty of tea coffee etc will be recommending to friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful stay xxx.

Lovely place. Rooms are lovely and clean. Only thing is you can't choose what you want on your full English which you could last year. It automatically comes out to you.

The most beautiful pub with stunning views the best landlord and landlady ive ever come across the people were so friendly my stay was just the best the food was 5 star I would so stay there again and god willing I will thankyou again Tonia and Tony your the best xx.

I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a place to eat, sleep or just relax when in Matlock but if you are walking from the town centre catch the bus as although they offer everything else they can't provide you with the cardiac monitor that is required after the walk up the hill.

Absolutely loved our 2 nights stay. Tony n Tonya the Owners were brilliant couldn't of wished for better. Food is lovely… accommodation bang on! local people, made us feel welcome we will definitely be retuning!

A community pub with a fair choice of beers, excellent prices on its food, and comfortable accommodation typical of a modern rural town. Wi-Fi hardly extends to the rooms and mobile phone signals can be intermittent. For car drivers, the location on a substantial hill just outside the centre of Matlock aids easy access to rural routes, and there is a large garden with impressive views to enjoy. So it's a mixed bag: connected business from the accommodation is difficult, but the simplicity, speed and price of service were strong assets.

Lovely location and rooms were really comfortable. Breakfast was lovely but by far was the friendliness if the owners. Definitely recommended.

We booked 2 double rooms online and recieved a family room and a four poster room instead which was a nice surprise. The rooms were clean and well decorated, everything worked and the staff in the pub were very helpful. We would go back again.

Go to pub of Matlock. Proper pub feel to the place and always friendly staff, welcoming staff. Good food and pint guaranteed.

Only popped in for a few drinks, my experience was as good as I heard it would be. It's a lovely local pub, great atmosphere and had a roaring fire which was welcome seeing as it was raining and windy outside, amazing staff who helped with a few questions I had :)

Great find. We stayed for one night and ate dinner in the pub it was easily the best and cheapest meal we had in our 4 days short break. The staff are incredibly helpful and make you feel very welcome. This is a genuine proper pub with a coal fire and lots of atmosphere. We had a family room and as it's separated from the pub we didn't hear any noise. The room was very comfortable, clean and great value. I would definetly stay there again.

My wife and I stayed here this weekend and had a very pleasant stay. The accommodation and food were excellent, plus the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming and especially liz the landlady quite a character when you get chatting to her, will deffo return to stay. I must add various local drinkers especially david taylor were so helpful in explaining the things and places to visit thank you all.
