We had the Indian Platter and the food was excellent the onion Bhaji are some of the best we have had. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. Good well kept real ales as well.

The BEST samosas, Bhagi and curry along with a fab selection of unusual German and Italian beers.

Lovely friendly pub with great food, fabulous selection of real ales and well trained attentive staff. If you’re lucky enough to find a table in the lovely beer garden on a sunny afternoon you really won’t want to leave! Highly recommended 😊

Superb pub with excellent cask ales and an eclectic menu — usual pub stuff but also ‘Indian’ food. Gorgeous back garden backing onto old castle walls attracting the sunshine, especially at lunchtime. An all round excellent place.

Wow just had their takeaway tonight … lamb curry, marsala chips and onion Bhaji … enough for two to share and it was scrumptious … very authentic and such tangy spices … will defo be having again XXX thank you to the chef too xxx.

Stopped here on the 23rd Feb 2020. Lovely big room and the food was lovely. Staff are very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. Thank you. Hubby and I had a lovely time.

Staying for 2 nights. Room 4 is large, quirky, comfy, nice clean beds and towels. Plenty of hot water. Made very welcome with our three dogs. Good food, reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Highly recommended!

Lots of rooms to choose from to have ameal & a drink, excellent service & food, nice cheap lunch time special, pleasantly surprised with the "proper " onion bargees.

In centre of town, so parking may be a bit difficult, but we managed. Bar meals were good. Staff very friendly. Rooms were clean.

Pub seems a bit weird when you walk in but has a nice beer garden out the back. Also the food was decent.

Friendly and helpful bar staff, although our visit was spoilt by burnt food. Shame, as other than this, it's a nice traditional pub. Lovely beer garden.

Great food here and a lovely dog friendly place, they don't have a lot of options but the ones they do have are done excellently, I recommend the steak and ale pie.

Relax in a truly lovely beer garden with British lager to enjoy with a yummy chocolate brownie. We had authentic Indian curries with rice too. Owners are Indian so the curries are awesome. Chicken tasted better than the lamb.

Lovely owners who welcomed us and our dog. Delicious food esp the chicken curry, all at reasonable prices. The garden is delightful, tranquil and sheltered next to the castle wall. A great kidszone with a wide variety of toys. We loved the history and the cameras in the cellars.

Stayed here for couple of nights with my dog. Couldn't have been made more welcome. We were given room 9 which has its own little enclosed garden, perfect for us. Bed was comfy, room was clean and had all required amenities. Rooms are traditional & full of character, so not for someone looking for clean lines & mod cons. Breakfast was yummy, cooked to order and plentiful. Would definitely stay here again, was given such a warm welcome.

I knew what I was booking beforehand, I read the reviews and thought why not. Barnard Castle is a beautiful spot with a historic town, the hotel is very rustic which is part of its charm, it was like walking into my grannies home. Food pretty basic but plenty of restaurants nearby if you want to up the anti. Breakfast was great, plenty to eat so overall nothing to complain about. I travel the UK as part of my job and stay in some of the most incredible hotels, so to go off the wall this place was just a delight, a friendly smile and a hearty breakfast in a lovely part of the world, I will definitely come back to bring me back to earth that over priced rooms in city hotels don’t count for local hotels which offer character and welcome. See you again.

Beautiful garden at back. Just needed some sunshine to go with it. Very family friendly pub. Didn't have food so can't comment on that.

Friendly hotel/pub in a listed building. Breakfast was great. Room was big and spacious.

Well worth stopping as you drive through Cotherstone. I was made welcome throughout the evening and I enjoyed the chat with the locals. Quality menu to choose from.

Great garden. You should certainly keep letting musicians come round and play guitar in garden on sunny days!

This is a very nice homely pub. The Landlord Roy is very friendly and helpful. The pub is very clean and tidy and the food is cheap and tasty. We enjoyed our visit.

Decor very dated, rooms could do with modernising. Evening meal was ok. Entertainment was fab. The breakfast was tasty and the staff were friendly and seem to be doing their best.
Don't think I would stay there again.

Amazing room with beautiful furnishings and very affordable. The pub downstairs is delightful, and the staff all very pleasant. Breakfast could be modified to accommodate a coeliac.

Popped in for a drink on a cold February afternoon and we're happy we did. Although looking traditional from the outside, the inside proved to be an absolute gem. But first a mention of the owner and landlord; one of the most polite, helpful and kind persons that you could meet. A lovely engaging man who gave me, my wife and our little scraggy dog loads of attention. Thankyou. Now the pub; great little bar, lovely dining areas and one of the finest beer gardens we have seen. I expect they will be rammed in the summer because of the views, excellent service and warm welcome. We will be back.

We went for a quick drink on New Year's Eve on a recommendation from friends. The larger back room was quite busy and had quite loud music playing but whether this was the norm or just because of the occasion. However we settled ourselves in the lounge which is small and cosy. We had a pleasant hour chatting and we'll certainly return.

So sad to find this establishment doesn't serve food in Winter at lunchtime but does in the evenings plus Sunday Lunch. Staff so friendly n also very doggie friendly n immaculately clean. Thanks guys make sure bosses know how much you guys work.

Not a local round here, came for a few days visited numerous places around the area, been to every local place however this place is awesome very friendly staff who would go out of your way to help you and also the history and cameras shown of this place is unbelievable. Would highly recommend for all ages it, thank you.

Eaten there a few time now. Authentic indian food is excellent. Sunday dinner very good and very friendly welcoming staff. Beer garden is lovely and it's dog friendly. It's very recommended.

Very welcoming by the owners (very dog friendly) we calling in for Sunday lunch, lovely big portions (& vegi option of vegetarian sausages instead of meat & vegetarian gravy. Children welcome & an area with toys for them. Good selection of real ales also. Highly recommended.

Friendly staff and atmosphere and a proper English pub Super breakfast — I had the full english Excellent room — we were in room 2 Very clean and tidy Some features are looking a bit tired but overall great value for money I would say for the price it is easily at the top end of what you should expect.

A group of us (16 of us) stayed here during a cycle ride. The rooms are fantastic. Although in a few rooms the shower could be improved, very poor water pressure. The breakfast was very big and very tasty. There was no evening food on when we stayed but there are plenty of places to eat. The staff were friendly and the bar is well stocked, not bad prices and good beers. I would definately return as would the rest of our party. 10th Aug 2013.

We called in for a quick drink, asked if they had a selection of various alcoholic drinks. The lady (if I could call her that) was very rude, obnoxious to me and also stating the pub didn't have a pool table, darts etc. Will not be returning.

We had an amazing time and stay at The Old Well Inn, It was our wedding day reception and evening event on 6th July 2013. Peter And Lynne were very good hosts they excelled their selves with all their little touches to make our dream come true. Thank you so much to all the staff love from Barbara and Eric.
