Cramped. Weird styling. Reception took money off my card without permission (I'd wanted to pay cash). Not clean.

My stay at this hotel was amazing! The staff are so lovely and welcoming, the room was cosy and extremely comfortable. It was such a homely, warm vibe that I extremely love about a hotel. The location was very handy and accessible. I have such a hard time sleeping because of my back, but I can’t remember the last time I slept so well! Yes, the toilet was slightly small but I had plenty of room. It was clean, comfortable and warm, nothing more I could want! I will definitely be coming again whenever possible.

Budget hotel. Useful as a few minutes walk to the centre. Clean and breakfast was good. Staff very pleasant.

Stayed here with my partner for one night. Check-in was quick and the gent on reception was very helpful — moving his car so we could park in the very limited and cramped parking area at the back of the hotel. Foyer was well-lit, fragrant and welcoming… but I'm afraid this is where the positives dwindle. We were shown to a staircase and given directions to our room. The stair carpets looked dingy and there was a musty smell in the corridors. Upon entering our room, the first things we noticed were the badly damaged TV and a light fitting hanging off the wall by the bed. The single-glazed sash window wouldn't close properly and rattled and howled in the wind, the window frame itself was dark with dirt and there were cigarette burns in the carpet and on the (stained) curtains. There was a stain on the blanket at the foot of the bed and the kettle (already full of water and containing an odious, short black hair) was a tired yellow colour. The bathroom was a bizarre, raised plastic cubicle which looked like it had been lifted out of a 70s caravan and dropped into the hotel room. The sink, shower and toilet were crammed so tightly that you had to keep the door open to be able to wash your face at the sink; and the toilet moved. The light above the shower didn't work and there was a loud water hammer every time the toilet was flushed. Soundproofing was also an issue. The guy in the room above ours was snoring like a jackhammer all night. Checkout was very slow.

The rooms are comfortable for a 3 stars hotel. There's no elevator, and the staircase can be vertiginous for those suffering of very small places. They have small bathrooms fully incorporated with toilet and wash basin. I've noticed the heaters being centrally shut down every morning, and then they turned it on in the middle of the morning. For someone looking just for a sleepover and being all day outside, Lloyd's of Chester will do perfectly. But for those more demands and looking for hotels with more comfort and luxury, it's better to find another place.

Small but lovely! My boyfriend and I stayed here for a couple of nights to celebrate my graduation. After booking I’d read some very negative reviews making me extremely nervous, however we were pleasantly surprised. The man at the reception was more than accomodating and made sure we had everything we required! The room had new carpets, a TV with full working channels and a really comfy bed! For the money we had everything we needed! Yes, the ensuit was tiny and I was worried that the shower would flood the entire space, but it didn’t! In fact the shower was fabulous and didn’t flood at all! While this isn’t a 5 star hotel it is definitely value for money and we would definitely stay there again!

Brilliant hotel rooms are spacious and cleaned daily, breakfasts are lovely as are the staff very helpful x.

The first room we were offered here was "non smoking" with a 1 piece plastic moulded bathroom that was about the size of a shoe cupboard. It also WREAKED of stale cigarette smoke. We then got moved to another room which although smaller, had a slightly bigger bathroom. When I came to get in bed I discovered what can only be described as the grand canyon of holes/grooves in the matress… that bad I nearly fell into it. In the morning I told the guy on the front desk that the bed was "Awful". He replied "oh. Was there a hole in the matress? ". He already knew. He then said "we will have to order a new one". Yeah right… joker. Stay here at your own peril. Its faulty towers without the humour…

Set off on a negative? Can't knock this place, very good value for money, hospitality was brilliant, thanks very much Sir.

Terrible! Staying in the hotel now with my 6 month old son been upset since arriving first room we were put in very unclean and dirty and the carpet was ripped and the bathroom was like a cabin very closafobic! Moved to what I think is a superior room bit bigger and cleaner but still a tiny bathroom and the whole room smells of urine it's digusting but too late to check out now or I would! Would not recommend anyone to book this its a nightmare and a waste of money and very upsetting no lift if you have kids either!

Stayed for one night. Rooms were big and there was hardly any noise from the road. The bathroom is basically the size of a wardrobe though which is a shame, they are tiny!

Turned up after seeing other reviews on TripAdvisor hoping that it would be fine. When we arrived we were taken to a room where the receptionist walked in with us and started folding up the messy towels. We then looked at the bathroom and it is the smallest bathroom, the toilet lid was open and inside was stains, yep, it hasn't been cleaned. We are then moved to another room where the receptionist then ran off instead of looking around again (the toilet in this room was dirty too). We were offered complimentary breakfast which was a nice touch. The beds aren't the best and was woken up and 6am because people were walking about upstairs.

Staff helpful, breakfast nice, rooms warm and well turned down. If I had to nitpick the edges of the room would benefit from the attentions of the hoover and the en suite from some cleaner and elbow grease but it's far from egregious.

Hotel is practically next to the railway station but isn't facing so it's not too noisy. Room was a decent size although the bathroom was tiny although that isn't too much of an issue. Had a little issue with the shower head but once it was reported to the manager he had it replaced within the hour. The room did only have 2 plug sockets one of which the TV was using so charging phones was a bit of a pain. For what we paid the room was good.

I'll keep this factual and relate all my comments directly to what they advertise on their website: "Luxury retreat in the heart of historic Chester": To be honest it looks rather shabby on the outside, and it's certainly not in the heart of Chester. The hotel is near the station, about 20 minutes walk from the centre of town, and opposite a hand-car wash place and "adult" shop with a large window display of skimpy sex outfits! All in all, very disappointing. The bed linen was dirty, bobbly old flannalette sheets covered in stains and fluff. The carpet was stained and the whole place needed decorating. The bathroom was a very small plastic moulded box like you'd get in a caravan, and the shower was mouldy and had old soap slime all down the sides of the cubicle. The website is pack of lies, the photos bear no similarity to the actual hotel, the services advertised don't seem to be present, and the rooms are filthy. It's dirty, unhygienic, has bed-bug infested old beds. Essential fire safety doors were also jammed open with toilet rolls so it's a potential death-trap if a fire were to break out. We asked for a full refund as there was no way we were going to stay in the filthy room we were given. The staff don't even seem surprised when you tell them you're not staying and you want a refund, I think even they know how bad the place is! Got half the money back immediately and the other half a fe days later after opening a dispute on Paypal for not being as described.

This hotel deserves no stars other than for the breakfast, which was freshly cooked and good. The hotel rooms were crumbling with stained walls and carpets; the bathrooms are so tiny that there was no way of washing our small kids in them (they are too small to use the shower on their own) ; the in-room coffee and tea cups were never washed during our five-day stay; there were no net curtains to and the hotel faced directly onto a busy street; and no double-glazing to protect against noise. We complained about a frankly filthy toilet brush in the room, and this was replaced, but the dirty one left outside our room in the hallway for the remainder of our stay. There were no hooks and nowhere to hang damp towels. The handle on the toilet flush was broken, so that our children couldn't operate it. I cannot recommend this hotel in the slightest.

I stayed here November 2013, was a bit sceptical because the price was so cheap (and included breakfast) but I thought it was great, it is a budget hotel but clearly had a bit of work done since some of the older reviews were posted on here. Free Wi-Fi as well a bonus (hate being charged for that even when work is paying). Bathroom was tiny but spotless, comfy bed, small TV but I watched a dvd on my laptop. It does what it says on the tin and the owner / manager was incredibly helpful and friendly.

Not as described to say the least, rooms were very dirty and dusty with stained sheets. Holes in the wall and nails sticking out the walls. Wouldn't advise anyone's to book here. It was so bad that we had a booking of 12 and we all walked straight back out onto the street as the street was cleaner. Keep clear.

Great location and the manager was very helpful, stayed here in November of 2010 but was very cold as owner would not allow heating in during the day, overall hotel was very poor but staff were unhappy in their job but kept the hotel alive.

My view on this hotel which we stay there on 4th of November to the 8th, this hotel is the worse I have ever stay in there website that you see is total false rooms are small, tiny bathroom no bar as stated on website little car park and no heat in the place, would, nt ever recommed this hotel to anyone, Rubbish.

For anyone thinking of visiting Chester, I would highly recommend this Hotel. It’s perfectly situated; just a few minutes walk from the train station and the city center, so there’s no need for getting taxis or buses when you go out and about! ALL the staff at the hotel was fantastic and couldn’t do enough to help, I was booking for a large number of people and they catered for everything we could ask for and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel its self is very clean and well presented, with modern stylish rooms and NO nasty hidden surprises, unlike a lot of places I have stayed at in the past. The bathrooms I can only describe as small but MIGHTY! Yes they are quite small but very clean with everything you need in there, and the shower was really powerful. All in all a lovely hotel and I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Chester to stay there, as I certainly would again.
