Great venue for watching the world go by at Kintbury Lock. Lovely pub garden with good drinks and food selection. Very relaxing.

Had an anniversary meal last night and was very disappointed with following.
1: Unfriendly outside table service.
Everything felt like it was an effort, from bringing desert menus to simply cleaning the table which was filthy and we had to ask for it to be done!
2: just the general untidiness of the eating area, from dirty floor, with cigarette butts and good spread across it, dirty glasses everywhere.
I realise they may of had a busy afternoon but it really doesn’t take much to keep on top of the cleaning.
Such a shame, as in the past we have had nice meals there. But I have noticed a general drop in service for a while now.

Great hotel, resturant and pub. Very comforable room and bed with excellent view from patio. Staff very welcoming and helpful.

So nice the food now finally matches the setting and scenery surrounding the Dundas. We stopped eating here a couple of years ago after some pretty dreadful experiences but came back again post refurb as we heard new owners in. Really pleased we did, absolutely superb tonight!

Just been to the Gin Festival. What an awesome awesome night. AMAZING gin, (by the bucket full) fab food, fab staff and great music! if you didn't go you missed a great evening. Bring on the next one!

Attended the gin festival and had a wonderful evening despite the horrible weather it was lovely. Garden is beautiful and staff were warm and friendly and very welcoming — will be back next year for festival and before for drinks in the lovely gardens xx.

Had a beautiful meal, got here just before food service closed for the evening but the full menu was available. We had the fish cakes and the gnocchi which were brilliant, one of the nicest meals I’ve had out in a long time! Shared the sticky toffee pudding which was equally as good! Highly recommend!

Love the dundas… but soooo disappointed today! beautiful weather… bar shuts because no one could be bothered to collect glasses… appalling table service with no one taking orders on ‘table service’ Shockingly bad prep dundas not good at all!

Lovely restaurant and bar. Welcoming and friendly staff always willing to help you whenever possible. The food is delicious and I can’t fault it. Lovely big garden that accept dogs too. Perfect for a nice evening meal or weekend for 2 or even a group. Would highly recommend it.

Wonderful pub. Great food. Next to canal. Recommended for a couple or family drink or meal. Great garden. Parking good.

Big space. Clean and well kept. Only had a cider but people seem to enjoy their food. Accepts dogs and has a water bowl for them out in the garden.

First time visiting since reopening. Food was mixed — my partner ordered the roast pork (lovely), I ordered the crab cakes @£15.95… Lots of options on the menu available gluten free, but those are not actually homemade (cheap white bread), which for the price of menu, absolutely should be (or shouldn't be offered). Can't help feeling slightly disappointed but not sure if that's the price of food so expectation was higher (comparing with other local pubs offering similar priced menu). Staff were lovely but lots of shouting to each other about clearing tables etc — ruined the atmosphere slightly. Hoping these are just teething problems as previously a firm favourite.

Nice rooms and great food. We stayed one night and really enjoyed our stay. Lovely location right on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Breakfast was included but they didn't have a veggie option for the full English hence 4 star and not 5

Well kept pub/restaurant on the banks of the canal. Nice garden area at the back (although watch the kids near the edge of the water). Food was great too.

Nice garden, wonderful on a sunny day. Would recommend the River Room for private dinning for large parties.

Really nice food, for outdoor dining patios over the canal and in the garden. Ideal place to laze on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Really good staff.

Food was ok but the burger was awful really poor quality meat def not homemade! The worst was the service. Only one of the waitresses bothered to work she was a lovely South African girl. When we mentioned to the manageress how the other wItress just ignored us she couldn’t care less, too busy ignoring customers on her lap top What a shame looked like a lovely pub.

The food is expensive and not good. Fish and chips and triple cooked chips: the fish was solid, the batter horrible. The chips were greasy and the skins left on. Skate and samphire: Skate was cooked well, but the tough stalks left on the samphire. When I complained, the owner left the waitress to apologise. Perhaps if the owner took feedback seriously his restaurant would not be virtually empty on a Saturday evening and he would avoid poor reviews. On the plus side, it is a lovely location and a good place to have a beer in the garden — just avoid eating there.

Used to be a favourite place to go for something to eat in the beautiful garden, but since the 'improvements', food, (and forced table service and charge) only possible on raised tables congregated around the building. We sat and ate surrounded by smokers on a cramped table that wouldn't have been our first choice especially as we came with 3 dogs. Service was mediocre at best — we were offered menus before being asked if we wanted drinks, when delivered, drinks arrived in a haphazard manner and not together, water without glasses, pint was poorly poured and looked unappealing. No pepper and salt on the table, no water offered, had to ask a couple of times for tobasco, we were served by 3 different members of staff, none of whom asked if we would like to see the puddings/cheese menu or came to offer new drinks whilst we were eating. Feels like it is trying to be very 'London' centric but without the level of service and competence to back this up. This used to be a staple for us a good few times a year to go and eat in the garden but certainly wouldn't consider in anymore. Such a shame — would have been better without the alterations.

The rooms are beautiful although in places it looks like the refurb run over and there are things that need finishing. The food was ok the menu sounds very upmarket however the waiter had no idea what some items were one of our party had a pie that was black (burnt) on the top they run out of lots of ingredients as In no potatoes to go with a roast dinner. Lack of stocked bar drinks such shame as it beautiful setting but bad service needs a good manager with some idea on how to run a bar/resturant.

Such an idyllic spot in between the canal and river, very peaceful. We spent the night and I was expecting a little bit of noise from the bar (we sleep with the window open) not at all we were woken by bird song.
We ate there at lunch and dinner. Very tasty food and NOT a smear on the plate. All the staff were reasonably young with a great attitude and attention to detail and very aware of customer needs. A credit to the management.
Will certainly stay there again.

Very nice pub especially in the summer where you can relax in the garden or sit alongside the canal. Recently (spring 18) undergone a light refurb with a good end result.

Can't wait to return for the quality in everything: location, environment, the food, drinks and warm "at home" welcome. The Dundas Arms flies the flag of British hospitality and cuisine high indeed.

Stopped off for a light lunch. Beautiful setting. Food amazing. Staff very friendly.

Lovely setting staff were not quick to serve you but food was served quickly no lengthy waiting for food once ordered food was lovely beautifully presented would recommend.

Great lunch time food sat in the garden, sun shining, next to the canal. Great way to spend a lunch time!

Drinks at the bar. Good selection of local ales on draught. Prices on the steep side but not outrageous. Simple and elegant decor in the bar, nice ambience. Staff friendly and efficient. All in all — good times!

Arrived just before 9pm. No food offered or avIlable. Locals and staff eating McDonald's at the bar… very bad. After Long drive. Seems more near to Hungerford than Newbury and long way from M4. Directions from Agoda not good. At booking told need to hurry as only 2 rooms left. In fact only 3 rooms anyway. 85 GBP PER room too off as now way it delivers 4 star facilities and service. Very boring place and heard only the staff talking Hour the owners and themselves etc. Left my beer an very poor quality. No fresh glass just used my used one without asking. Staff need training. My room was not 4 star standard and on arrival I noticed the previous user had no flushed the toilet. Very bad. I asked for a manager or owner and was told not available until after my checkout time. I never stay here again and suggest Agoda remove it for their lists until extensive improvements are made party up at to service and staff. O am many years a user of Agoda internationally so I trust my feed k is noted for the good of Agoda and the hotel… pub.

Great pub with great food, lovely garden, beautiful surroundings and amazing staff. There is a good selection of beers and it has great connections from the station. Well worth a visit.

Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. A good selection of local beer and a good selection of Gin. Also the bar is made up of coins which gives a good ambiance!

Great pub in a fantastic location. Close to the station and only a short walk from Kintbury. Parking in front and over the canal from the pub. Nice walks in either direction. Warm and cosy in the winter and a lovely garden to enjoy the summer in. Always made to feel very welcome whenever we visit.

Lovely Friday evening with my wife, she loved her seabass, me my onglet steak and chips. Two friends joined and we drank wine and listened to live music. Life at its simplest best.

Food was pretty nice but over priced, nothing amazing. Beer was well kept. Lovely position.

Only visited as I had to get off the train a stop early to run to the toilet… lovely welcoming little pub. Even made friends with a 3-legged dog. I'd definitely visit again if I was in the area!

Please be aware of 'Discretionary' service charge added to bill. I didn't see the small print at the bottom of the menu. Much too embarrassing to ask for it to be deducted when paying at the bar — so it doesn't feel discretionary.

Disappointing! Not sure how 2 almost identical plates of steak chips and rocket could be charged at £21 and £12 plus service charge! Poor service as the changes on the menu were not explained properly so left wondering where the rest of our meal was! Food was ok but really not worth the money or the journey left hungry! Much nicer places to eat so will not be returning or recommending.

Gorgeous pub garden, decently priced drinks and dog friendly! We will be going back at a later time to try the food as the pizza menu looked great.

Lovely pub on the canal in Kintbury. Beautiful garden for the summer and warm welcoming bar and restaurant rooms in the winter. Service is always excellent. Plenty of parking and very close to Kintbury station. Well worth a visit any time of year.

Nicely appointed, great location next to canal, with a big beer garden. Inside there's a cosy interior bar area with a separate annexe/library area too. Fairly pricey drinks but at the same time they are well kept and presented. Staff friendly and knowledgeable.

The high prices would be fine if the food is fantastic and memorable but its not. Sadly when a 'gastro pub' sells fish and chips for nearly £15! This shouldn't include 11 oven packet chips stacked in a small bowl meant for a condiment. They should be homemade! Your condiment will arrive in a tiny jam jar which holds about a teaspoons worth. Very very disappointed.

Really nice venue on the canal, great for a sunny day. The food was good quality and the staff very helpful. Watch the ducks though, they are vicious!

A lovely pub by the canal, very friendly and welcoming staff. Only popped in for a drink, will visit again to try the food as looked lovely. Would definitely recommended.

Arrived and sat down at an outside table, to be told they were full and we couldn't be served. After going inside to see nobody was there, we left perplexed and on to another pub. Service terrible.

Great pub for with a proper old country feel. The library room with its open fire and leather sofa is sublime in the winter. In the summer the pub garden is like some kind of English paradise. Yes, the good can be expensive, but as an occasional treat, nothing wrong with that.

Recently had lunch here. Meal was very good and certainly not cheap, but the service in thr bar was so slow despite it being a Tuesday and very near the end of lunch service (only 6 people at tables). Oh yes, there were staff around, not overly busy, but pretty poor in acknowledging my presence.

The "new" Dundas got off to a fractionally inauspicious start with slightly chaotic service and variable meals, sometimes sublime and occasionally awful. After 9 months the engine is now running well, the landlord Tom has got his team working in sync, the food is consistently very good and we inevitably spend more than we should with alarming regularity. Worth a visit, especially when the weather is good and the large river and canal banked beer garden is in use.

The rooms were huge, beautifully decorated, comfortable bed. Thick bathrobe and towels, a cafetiere for coffee (! ) and teapigs, etc etc. the food. Excellent! the chef is fantastic. We intended to eat one meal there, ended up with two highly recommended.

An impressive refurb in an excellent location. However we waited one hour when the pub was not busy on a Tuesday lunch for 7 chips in a cup to arrive, having ordered enough for three to go with sandwiches. There was also a 10% service charge added automatically to the bill despite the bar staff being well aware of the kitchen not producing 7 chips. In conclusion — a great venue for I spy canal boats, trains and ducks but buy your chips in Hungerford.

We booked a table because we saw the nice critics on here and really liked the website. That was, however, very misleading. This is no more than an ok village Pub; we booked a table but did not get to see the "elegant" Restaurant mentioned on the homepage, nor was any imaginary food served. First of all we had to wait and then ask for any service, the chef could not come up with a second vegetarian meal as I did not like the one on the board, and the risotto I finally got was not good (and I was charged the wrong price and had to complain). My husband ordered a steak&kidney pie and had the filling next to the pastry, that was a first for him as well. In short: Average food at best, and good service only for locals and regulars it seems. Not again.
