This is a high end hotel, with terrific staff, a nice bistro and cafe, and striving for a sense of hospitality that it didn't quite reach. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, but noisy. Some confusion having two hotels with the same name on the same street, particularly for the jet-lagged traveller. My room, 260, was on the corner near the lift and the linen cupboard. Avoid this room at all costs, but you may have a better experience elsewhere in the hotel.

We went to the Principal to meet some friends that had just moved to the area. It's a beautiful place with several different bars and restaurants and a very comfortable waiting area in the lobby. At the bar I ordered two different whiskies, one for myself and one for a friend. The bartender came back with a complementary third glass that was finer than the two that I had ordered. That kind of treatment typified our experience at the Principal.

We stayed two nights in Edinburgh at The Principal Edinburgh George Street, room was large and very comfortable, I ordered room service for breakfast and you could request a specific time and they phone you in advance to let you know they are coming and they where on time. I enjoyed the service very relaxing. Front reception, concierage, all staff very pleasant and helpful. Hotel is within walking distance of shops, and there is a park nearby also several restaurants close by. It was a very enjoyable visit.

Good Hotel, not exactly up to a 5 star rating as described but the staff is really great. The breakfast under the expectations and the price disproportionate. The rooms are cosy but small.

Very nice hotel, good location to visit Edinburgh. The room is nice sized, well equipped although slippers would be appreciated with bathrobes. The air conditioning in the room was capricious.
Despite these little bémols, a beautiful Scottish experience, I would recommend this hotel.

The rooms are quite comfortable, the location is the best (everything is walk distance), the concierge service is world class (ask for Luca, the polish guy, he is lovely and efficient). The breakfast is good but not superb. They could improve a little bit here I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The George has always been one of our most favourite hotels. Great central location with the only drawback to that being the parking issue. Service is always good, but some bedrooms are better than others. It has at times felt like a bit of a lottery when it comes to what room you end up in. Some are excellent, some less so. Love the breakfast but have seldom eaten dinner in here. Too much choice in town I guess.

Gorgeous hotel, love the style. Rooms very well done. Staff were great and very attentive. Only criticism is the interconnected rooms. We had to request a new room as we were connected at either side and the other guests were extremely noisy. Thankfully the reception staff gave us a room upgrade on the top floor which was lovely!

Lovely hotel, excellent location, room was very nice, very comfortable bed. Lots of extras in the bedroom. Unfortunately their was a mix up with the room initially but it was resolved and we were given breakfast free of charge. It was a very special birthday treat for my friend and she enjoyed it very much. Thank you to the lovely staff.

Beautiful hotel and easily the best one on the entire street! Decorated to absolute class and style fit for the architecture through out. Staff were the friendliest I've encountered in the whole of Edinburgh who went above and beyond to ensure a more then pleasant stay so thank you to all that work there :) breakfast was outstanding, if you are a vegetarian then be sure to order the veggie sausages when a waiter/waitress takes your order for tea/coffees and enjoy the refreshing fruit salad whilst you wait. We are lucky enough to even witness a civil marriage that was taking place there during our stay and what a venue for a wedding it was, a really and truly stunning place!

Incredible hotel. Ive never before seen standards and quality of this high level as I did here. Staff were so good, friendly and helpful. Stunning breakfast buffet (with haggis I may add) which just added to the experience. I so wanna come back here again.

Absolutely beautiful hotel! Hotel staff are extremely welcoming and willing to attend to our every need. We visited for Christmas so everywhere was decorated to put you in the festive mood. Hotel was very clean and tidy and in a prime location. Located in the New Town with all the high street shops made Christmas shopping easy, but if you had enough of the hustle and fancied something different, Old Town was just a short 5 minutes walk away. The staff made our short Christmas stay at this hotel magical and we are already planning to visit again next year.

Good location. Staff excellent. Bedroom well furnished and comfortable but quite cold as difficult to regulate heat. En suite bathroom very small and nowhere to hang or dry towels. One price (£14.95) for breakfast even if only wanting continental. Evening meal in restaurant good.

We LOVED this place! Great customer service and 5* quality rooms. Excellent location within walking distance of everything. 1 minute away from the metro which goes directly to and from the airport in 30 minutes. We can't wait to return again. Excellent quality and service!

A newly renovated hotel centrally located in the heart of Edinburgh offers a comfy bed with oversized pillows, complimentary Wi-Fi and free water bottle + snacks. Things to consider before making your decision: The toilet floor was feet numbing cold. Room on the 3rd floor had poor sound insulation; heard music playing from the ground floor. Mini fridge was oddly placed against the room radiator causing the fridge to work overtime making constant popping and gurgling noises. Getting into the shower offered very little room to manoeuvre as the glass door if opened hits the sink. Walking into the shower — your leg may just graze against the toilet bowl. Water pressure was also very disappointing given the hotel installed a high spec overhead rain shower. Main hotel room door had a door to floor gap of approx two inches. You could roll a pound coin into the room from the elevator. Three stars for the friendly staff, comfy bed and central location.

Gorgeous lobby and very friendly, helpful staff. Stayed in a standard double and felt very small compared to other typical doubles. Bathroom also very small (door knocked against the bath) also didn’t like the plastic shower curtain over the bath / shower. Lovely decor though and the extras (free snacks, morning papers) was a nice perk.

An absolutely beautiful hotel. I was actually there for a course but I was struck by the beauty of the interior of this hotel. The staff were attentive and the food was diverse and delicious. Much better than the usual offering from hotels during conferences/courses.

We've stayed 4 times this year and probably won't come back, on this visit we stayed in Room 400, it has a tiny bathroom and the smallest wardrobe in the world. Even more disappointing given we paid to upgrade. On the up side, the location is perfect and staff are attentive. The Bar has a great atmosphere and Breakfast is excellent. October 2017, we decided to visit again and upgraded to a Suite at the front of the Hotel, the room was incredible, we’ll be back again soon.

My wife and I stayed here for one night and it was lovely. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay as special as possible. We went for food in the hotel restaurant and we weren't aware it was an award winning restaurant. The food was incredible. My wife is vegetarian and the selection was great for her and she loved the food. Drinks were great in variety. Breakfast was great and staff accomated us so much woth making extra food to ensure we had all the selection possible. When we visit Edinburgh again we will definitely be staying here again. The rooms were modern, luxurious and clean. Couldn't complain.

We had an amazing stay on The Principal Edinburgh. The best hotel in Edinburgh to my opinion. Located on new town and the location is simply perfect. It has great restaurants and the service is simply outstanding. The room, bed, pillows, etc were very comfortable. Highly recommended if you are planing to visit Edinburgh.

I wasn't a guest at the hotel, I just came in for drinks and dinner. They let us take our dog in the bar, but not in the restaurant. Oysters were big and bouncy and fresh. Smoked haggis was soft and powerfully smoky. Scallops were beautifully cooked. Chips were a little uncooked and cold inside, and lacked flavour they could have got by cooking in dripping or lard or duck fat. But steak was cooked precisely, nice bite on the decent priced hanger steak (onglet) and the bone marrow gravy had big lumps of bone marrow in it. Yum! Good beers on the menu too.

Nicer hotel in a great location but rooms were quite small. Barely room for two with suitcases to fit into the room and zero space in bathroom. Bed was a bit small too. That said the rooms were clean, modern, functional and in very good shape. Common areas were nice and service was very helpful. Didn't eat anything at hotel instead opting for numerous cafes and pubs a few minutes walk away.

Very nice luxury hotel in excellent location in the New Town by St. Andrew's Square. Staff is extremely courteous and goes out of their way to please. Rooms are super modern, clean, and look brand new or recently renovated. Only complaint is that the bathroom in my room was super small and hard to get into as the door just cleared the sink area so you had to squeeze in. Would definitely stay here again when in Edinburgh.

From the moment you enter the hotel the staff couldn't do more for you. The hotel looked really classy and posh and all the staff look happy and are very hard working! Couldn't find any faults what so ever. It's located near shops and bars but not too near that you are kept awake, the rooms are lovely and modern, the breakfasts are great, the views out of the rooms are decent, the facilities are great. It is also a wedding venue which looks brilliant! A member of staff even took the time to draw me and my partner a map to find our way to a restaurant and then after knowing we were going the Edinburgh castle, gave us both a bottle of water and a pack of mints to take up there! They also have lifts to the rooms and on our last day after checking out, they let us leave our bags there so we could enjoy the rest of the day there before collecting them before we headed back home. Personally, I believe although its not the cheapest, its great value for money and deserves a great review!

The Principal Edinburgh George Street hotel is in a very well preserved building, and has definitely kept the old style feel one would expect here in Edinburgh! Rooms are very well done up — ours has a very nice old sketch of Robbie Burns. Rooms and bathroom are very clean. Breakfast buffet is really good, and fresh. Oh, as an awesome perk, they offer disposable slippers for after your bath, and a few candies/treats in a little 'tuck box' as well as providing a couple of bottles of water in the mini fridge! Highly recommend!

Lovely food, great staff and I've never had a better brandy alexander. In fact, it's one of only a few places that even know what it is.

It was cool. Great location. Expensive, but worth it. Breakfast was free and amazing. Haggis!

Elegant establishment with a large hall well suited for conference stalls and mingling. Top floor Forth room has good views and balcony as well as bar and meeting facilities. Basement level rooms are less appealing and signage is a little misleading.

The hotel has just been refurbished and is much brighter whilst keeping a very traditional feel. Everyone is very pleasant and helpful and the location is great.

Food was OK — not brilliant but priced accordingly. Staff were very good but policy of not taking debit card imprint (as with every hotel I stay in) — frustrating and irritating. Had to pay everytime I ordered a coffee or meal or drink — they wouldn't charge back to room. Amend policy for those happy to have the deposit taken!

Very well located hotel with good quality rooms. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was or excellent quality. The newly refurbished bar is very nice. If you get change site at the bar and just watch the staff work they honestly do not stop. Top quality hotel.

Lovely stay, friendly staff. Will be back to full stars once the reception renovations are complete which are only of minimal intrusion.

The George Hotel and staff were a credit to the industry at Craig and Rebecca Clow's wedding reception. Wonderful people who enjoyed a good dance. It was an honour to be a part of their evening. Thankyou! Sneaky Treacle.

We had a great time, the hotel was amazing, the staff were friendly and rooms very clean.

The hotel is lovely inside. We went for our anniversary on Saturday 28th march. Our room was miles away. An awful trek to get to. Looked at our view. It was horrendous. Trash bins all over the place. The noise of bottles getting thrown into the bins through the night then the bin lorries crashing about first thing in the morning. The room interior itself was fine but it was freezing.

The hotel was great. Excellent staff. There was one problems. When the heating unit reached the desired temperature, it would make this noise when shutting off. It kept me up throughout the night. The staff was understanding and allowed a late check out so I could get some rest.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times now, and have to say that this is now my favourite hotel in Edinburgh to stay in when I'm up. The staff are really friendly, with good service and are always willing to help out. The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable. The location is what really helps this hotel out though: right on the doorstep to explore the rest of Edinburgh. The attached restaurant is O. K, not amazing, but not awful. A taxi from the airport takes about 20/30 minutes, and they have an express check out option which is handy when you need to leave early.

I organised one of our many Software events at the George Hotel earlier this year. I have to say that the Conferencing staff were very helpful to me and my delegates. They saw my grand idea and ran with it. No questions asked! The 50 delegates and I were all wowed by the plush interior and the beautiful building. Will definitely be holding a future event here again! Food was lovely. Very good business package — Thank You.

Good location, nice bar, Tempus, and gorgeous old part of building. Newer part of hotel not as nice, so when booking, ask yo be out into the older part of the hotel.

Nice room, excellent location. Dour staff, rubbish pillows and a dribble of a shower limit this to a three star unfortunately.

Menu options are limited and make it a bit like a posh Wetherspoons, options are mainly pub food. Very nice surroundings and service was ok. Better place to go for a drink than a proper meal.
