Comfortable, quiet and nice service.

So pleased we found this gem… so much better than big hotels, just like a home from home and the fresh-cooked breakfasts are amazing! We are on the third floor so lots of stairs but no problem as it so quiet and peaceful.

Beautiful old world style guest house. My room (s) were spotless and comfortable, plus I was cooked a wonderful gourmet breakfast by Scott.

Great service (and breakfast) at a reasonable price. Only stayed for a night, but would certainly stay there again.

We enjoyed a lovely stay at AGH over Easter weekend. The accommodations were as advertised, lots of charm and history. Most enjoyable was the warm and friendly service from Ella, Scott, and Kevin. They each made us feel at home, and went out of their way to be kind and helpful. I think my only negative comment: the shower in the bathroom. Not sure that anything can be done, but the shower stream hit me right in the face, and could only be adjusted up (over my head), not down. I am 5"4" tall. Oh, well. Delicious homemade breakfasts certainly made up for it! We found parking on the street on Friday evening (lucky us! ), and didn't have to move the car until Sunday, for a day trip out of town. Upon our return, we found affordable parking a short walk away on 18th Street.

We have just spent three nights at the American Guesthouse. So cozy and welcoming. The old charm of the building made it a romantic experience. Lucia owner and chef Scott just so lovely. We will miss waking up to greet the new breakfast of the day. Scott always offered to make us a traditional cooked breakfast but we preferred to enjoy one of his yummy creations. Always starting with a petite bowl of fruit. There was also a variety of cereals, yogurt and house made granola to complement the yummy experience. We always had a bit of everything — great way to start the day. Be prepared for stairs to your room but if you are reasonably fit and healthy the wooden staircase adds to the romance. Our room was spotless, very comfortable and complete with old world charm. Location was ideal. Just around the corner from all the restaurants in Connecticut Street.

I had a great stay at American Guest House! I especially enjoyed the fabulous breakfasts prepared by the chef, Kevin. He was so incredibly kind, and the meals were phenomenal. I would definitely stay here again!

Very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Staff and food was great. Good central location to everything. Would definitely stay here again.

No parking! The website did let you know there would be no parking, so no surprise. But what a pain. We double parked, ran our bags inside then drove down to the Washington Hilton and paid to use their garage. Then walked back to the b&b. B&B, means bed and breakfast, that's all they do — provide a bed and serve you breakfast. So it seems reasonable to me to expect a decent breakfast. This b&b offered yogurt, granola, coffee and juice for breakfast. Sorry, but to me that is not a b&b breakfast, maybe others won't mind. If you took a piece of candy it cost you $2, or a bottle of water, or anything at all. The building is old and interesting inside, but not very comfortable, not a place you'd want to hang out in for the afternoon. We stayed there because it was close to where we needed to be the next day and we wouldn't be hanging around. We just needed a place to sleep.

Excellent service, quiet and clean, a piece of Americana tucked away in DC.

I had a great time at the American Guest House. The history of the building combined with the friendliness of the staff made my stay a pleasure.

The American Guest House was beautiful, homey and extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious, I enjoyed conversations around the table and the location is fantastic!

Never have I stayed at such a lovely lodging. Everyone who worked there treated me like family. The atmosphere was so cozy and the building was well maintained. Breakfast was absolutely amazing and really home made. It really did feel like a home away from home. No hotel chain could match this experience. I'm so glad I decided to stay here.

Cozy overnight service! Clean room and restroom. Fantasic hot water for a relaxing bath. Special shout out to Kevin for making me delicious eggs in the morning even though I was 15 mins past hot food service. Room 304 was small but perfectly suitable for one person. I'd definitely stay here again.

Great B&B style hotel. Wonderful to wake up to a well prepared breakfast and have warm wood interior, books, and home feel as well.

Amazing stay here and amazing breakfast! It's in the best neighborhood with a ton of restaurants and bars. The house is cozy and comfortable. We will definitely be back.

A wonderful home away from home in a beautiful section of Washington, DC. I stayed here while attending a conference at the Washington Hilton and it was lovely to have a quiet retreat. Breakfast each morning was delicious! I'm looking for an excuse to go back to DC so I can stay here again!

We had an amazing time at American Guest House. It was our 30th anniversary and we spent 4 days in DC looking around. American Guest House was located about 10 min walk from the red line, cost $10 in cab for ride to the National Mall and had a bus stop 30' from front door. Great location. AND the breakfast was 5 star also, maybe 6. Made to orderly Chef Kevin, a Chef at one of the well known hotels. His creations were amazing. Must Stay Location!

Nice alternative to big hotels for business travel. Nice stay. Could've used a hand lugging our luggage to 3rd floor (as described in hotel info), but no such offer was extended. Room nice, back-facing, quiet (except for a couple times the next-door occupant was STOMPING around in his room). Comfy linens. The room could use a little maintenance (ex. Broken, sharp ceramic tiles by fireplace). Breakfast seating on tight schedule, wasn't much fun milling around awaiting our scheduled seating. But breakfasts were delicious and chef's a nice guy. Also nice conversations with a few interesting people.

My husband Paul & I wanted to stay close to the centre of DC but somewhere quiet if possible. We read about AMG — it sounded ideal, all you'd need without being in a big hotel, & when staying there we found it perfect.
A quirky, quaint guest house, in a very nice neighborhood, pleasant, polite & helpful staff, (Ella & Lucia especially) great breakfasts by chef Kevin & good facilities in very clean rooms.
We would definitely stay again, & recommend AMG to everyone — it is all it says it is on the website. We are very pleased to have picked this lovely place to spend 5 days/nights in Dupont Circle DC. May 2015

We stayed 5 nights at the American Guest House when I accompanied my husband on a business trip last month. This is a charming and beautiful old building that was built in 1899. The accommodations are well maintained and very comfortable. We were on the top floor in room 403, which is spacious with a sitting area and antique furniture that is both decorative and functional. Be aware that there is no elevator so pick a floor according to your ability to climb stairs. We happily got our exercise by climbing that beautiful staircase. The breakfasts were enjoyable and well prepared by Chef Kevin. Any questions we had, Marcos or Kevin were there to assist us. We would go back to stay at American Guest House in a heartbeat. It is a great place to stay.

Actually I loved everything about the place, except the parking situation. The room was cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was divine! The chef was fun to talk to and the other guests were interesting. My only small complaint is parking. Once I arrive, I park my car and take the convenient Metro — a 10 min. Walk to the Red Line at Dupont circle. But parking is a bit of a hassle with the nearest long term lot a block away or so. When lugging stuff for a week long stay, that's a pain. That said, I'll be back with some frequency.

I greatly enjoyed sating at the American Guesthouse these last 4 nights. I turned in my keys this morning and am heading home. Such a contrast to the busy hotels I usually stay in when in town. Very pleasant staff and Kevin does an excellent breakfast, and I enjoyed chatting with the other guests over breakfast. Bus stop right outside dropped me off where I needed to work in Farragut Square, and directly to any of three metro stations. Small rooms, but very very clean.

Great location. Personable staff and fantastic accommodations. Definitely stay here for business and/or vacation.

Stayed for several days last October and really loved the personal service, great food and help in getting around. The girls connected me with a van service to the airport which saved me time and money! A great place to stay.

I love staying at the American Guest House, and have done so a few times now. The location is great, with easy transit options as well as being within walking distance of a few different neighborhoods. The staff is friendly and welcoming, the rooms are lovely and tidy, and breakfasts are always tasty.

I had a wonderful week at the American Guest House. My room was charming and comfortable, with a pristine, updated bathroom and lovely antique furniture. The staff was terrific and went out of their way to make it a comfortable place to live. The location is lovely and quiet, but near enough to public transportation that it's easy to get anywhere in town. Eggs to order for breakfast were perfectly prepared by Jonathan, who is a charming conversationalist and host. Highly recommended.

My stays with American Guest House have all been stellar. I am greeted warmly, as if I was a family member returning home. The house is neat and clean and again, warm! Attention to the details makes this my choice when I'm in DC. Jonathan and the others make this a perfect place, and the location is convenient to all the things one wants in DC.
