I very rarely write reviews. I just wanted to write one for this hotel because I would hope that the hotel would either address the problem or at least it would make other pet owners take precautions before staying at this hotel. This was our first time traveling with our dog and our first time visiting south padre island. My dog will turn 4 next month and we've had her since she was 9 weeks old. She has never had fleas and we have not ever used a flea treatment or preventative. We tried putting her on a heartworm medication that also prevents fleas but it made her sick so our vet said we would just address it if she ever got fleas. So this gives you an idea of our experience with traveling with our dog and how often she's had fleas and our efforts to prevent them. Take my review with a grain of salt. On the drive home from the hotel my daughter saw a bug on my dog and when I examined her I realized they were fleas. Pretty sure she got them at the hotel. She didn't have many at all and I know this based on my own examination of her. We treated her with a shampoo immediately when we got home and I combed them out. Gave her a full examination before during and after her bath. We're doing a combination of things to treat this problem. It's expensive. Not to mention a health issue for her. It never crossed my mind that dogs pick up these things in hotels. Call me ignorant and naive. My fault. However, I would expect that a hotel that regularly allows dogs should treat for fleas regularly. Pretty disappointed in our experience.
