What a disaster! I booked this room with points and when I arrived I was pleased with the size of the room. Unfortunately that is where the positive part of this story ends. I booked a room with a balcony with a partial water view. When I arrived, I found the door to the balcony to be open and I stepped out and sure enough had a fairly nice view of the Gulf. I stepped back into the room and closed the door behind me. Big mistake. Apparently the reason that the door was opened was because the lock was broken and once you closed it, you could not reopen it. I also noted that the room was freezing and went to adjust the A/C to turn it down. I then left for the beach. When I returned a few hours later I noted that the room was even colder and after attempting to adjust the thermostat came to the conclusion that the unit was obviously broken and would not shut off on it's own. Hence the only way to control the temp was to turn it on and off repeatedly. I decided to warm up the room by opening the door and that is when I realized that it could not be unlocked and opened. I called the front desk and they told me that maintenance would be up "right away. " I went out for about an hour and a half and returned to find that maintenance had not yet arrived. I again called the front desk and was told that maintenance would be there "in two to three minutes. " Twenty minutes later when no one had arrived I called again and requested a room change. I was told that there were no available rooms. I asked to speak with the manager. The person from the desk told me that I could have a free breakfast and that I would get a refund of 10, 000 points. I said that was unacceptable to me and that I wanted a new room AND a full refund. I again asked to speak to the manager, the person hung up on me. About 5 minutes later a maintenance person came to my room (it is now after 8:00 p. M. And I have wasted way too much time on this). He was unable to open the door and told me that he would have to come back with some more tools. I told him that it was not my responsibility to wait around while repairs were made to my room. I again called the front desk and asked to have a room change; I was again told that there were no available rooms. I asked to speak with a manager; a girl got on the phone and claimed to be the manager; based on the sound of her voice and actually seeing her later on, I highly doubt that she was the manager. After bickering with her she put me on hold and when she got back to me told me that I could be moved to another room. She said she would be right up with the new keys. Almost 20 minutes later she finally arrived, offering some lame excuse as to why she was detained. My new room was better in that the air conditioning worked and the balcony door would open, however, my partial Gulf view that was an upcharge was not a full view of the air conditioning units on top of the building below. After this fiasco I feel entitled to a full refund of all of my points at a minimum.
