Think back to the dirtiest guy you knew in college: did you ever visit his apartment? It was damp and humid and had a strange smell that vacillated somewhere between cigarettes and body odor. The shades were always drawn. The sofa cushions felt damp. You left your shoes on because the carpets were dirty. He’d knocked holes in the walls and patched them himself and painted over them with a paint color that didn’t quite match. The bathrooms were the worst: discolored caulk, exhaust vents caked in dust, the spongy floor. As soon as you arrived you wanted to leave. How could anyone live like that? Well, if you never knew this guy in college then you’re in luck: all you have to do is visit Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham in Greenville, South Carolina. It’s just like being in that sketchy dude’s college apartment. When you arrive you’ll see that the landscaping has completely gone to pot; weeds choke the parking lot and trash blows freely like tumbleweeds. As you make your way to your room you’ll notice the courtyard possesses the ambience of a 1960s beachside motor court that hasn’t been updated since the 1960s: the paint chips away in chunks the size of maple leaves; stairs lean precariously away from landings; decking is slippery and moldy. Inside the habitation we spent one night in you’ll find stained carpets, chipped paint, holes in the walls, moldy bathrooms, a clogged toilet, and a refined scent of urine. We arrived around dinnertime and put our six-month-old to bed.

Room was decent at best on inside. Outside was very unkempt. Attempted to call in and get a secondary receipt for expense report. Currently going on week 3.

Too bad u can't choose zero stars. This place is a train wreck it should be condemned. The few ppl that are staying there appear to be borderline vagrants or prostitutes. What glimpse I caught of the pool appeared to look toxic and feral cats roamed the overgrown parking lot. Drunk rapey creepers also loitered in the parking lot making no attempt to conceal their open containers or liquor bottles. The rooms have this odor of cigarettes, alcohol, and wetness that is unimaginable. It is a building that might've once been really ghetto apts that some idiot halfway reconfigured into a "hotel". Bugs, mold, dirty appliances I wouldn't dream of taking shoes off or sitting on any furniture in the place. Dark damp and just disgusting. The beds should all be burned. The bottom level seems to have had flooding that was never cleaned up properly perhaps accounting for the rank smell permeating from EVERYTHING. DO NOT STAY HERE — you will probably contract some type of infection or be assaulted by one of the few looneys desperate enough to stay there. Someone needs to hold management and owners accountable for this inexcusable atrocity.

To be fair, the hotel seems to have put a lot of money on the inside of these rooms, still, not enough to make the stay bearable. Let's begin with walking through the door, there was a nail sticking up where the carpet met the entry. The air conditioning never made it under 77-78. I looked for reasons why it was not cooling, and found a big gap between the door and the wall. I opened the door and the wall moved. Upon pushing it back and forth for a moment, I realized it was rotted and detached from the floor, the whole front wall. Had to be careful while pushing it so that it didn't break off completely. I asked for another room, was given a key to check it out before moving rooms. I accidentally went to the wrong room, put the key in, the door lock flashed red, and opened anyway. The second room was nicer, when I found it, but the mattresses were caved in — just material over bare spring. We decided to leave. My review, Hawthorne suites of Greenville is good for one thing, booking a room somewhere else using their phone. The staff seemed used to this, and were very nice, and I appreciate it, but the hotel is not a nice place to stay or visit. P. S. The room had some sort of biting bug which got my youngest before we could move out. A little after bite did the trick. There are plenty of nice hotels to stay in the area, just as affordable.

When I first stayed here a few yrs ago it was pleasant but this trip was horrible. The room smelled they didn't properly clean the room. They put the dirty sheets in the closet and there was a dirty rag on the shower and it almost landed on me when I was pulling the curtain back. The bed was hard and the pillows were flat and lumpy. There were no cooking appliances in the kitchen n it was outdated. The stools were soiled and the couch had holes burned all over it. And when I complained all they could say was sorry.
