The Gideon Putnam is one of the great old historic hotels. And with that you need to roll with a little personality. It is not a modern luxury hotel. It is grand and wonderful. And the renovations mean clean, freshly painted rooms with new carpets. When in the garden dining area, painted dining room and entrance you come away with a real sense of a step back in time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location can’t be beat for those attending events at SPAC.

Perfect 10 Fresh newly renovated rooms, excellent restaurant with reasonable prices, beautiful property, very pet friendly, lots to explore without even haven't to drive, historical and interesting. Loved it. Can't wait to return.

Very nice place, porch suite was amazing. Being within the grounds of the state park was great. So many walking trails. Staff was very good.

Very friendly staff. Bed was very comfortable. Food was good, our bartender was wonderful. Amanda, the waitress is five star. Joggers, golfers, dog lovers, hikers — this is your place! We stay in Saratoga hotels often and prefer this hotel for it's surroundings, friendliness and the room had a classic feel. We agree with almost all the reviews here but, the staff make this hotel better than most. The cookies (upon request) in the room upon arrival were delicious. We will stay here again.

Our stay was great. We loved our room and the grounds. We would definitely come back and already have talked about it. The area of Saratoga springs is beautiful. My only complaint is the bathroom. It was small and the sink location and door was kind of annoying. Overall a great experience.

Really loved it here. Go to the restaurant if you are seeing a show at SPAC… it's a classic environment but the food options are modern and kind of inventive. There was live music … Very nice.

This place should not advertise as being a luxury hotel. Let me start by saying we stayed here soon after it reopened after months of extensive repairs required after a major water main break flooded the hotel. I assume the flood did not affect the upper floors where the rooms are, because I didn't see anything that looked recently upgraded. We started in a single room with a kind size bed. Since we had been hiking all day, the first thing I did was to head straight into the shower. Unfortunately, the diverter wasn't actually diverting even half of the water from the tub spout into the shower head. After many calls to the front desk, someone finally picked up, and they said they were upgrading us to a suite for our troubles. Once they moved our bags to the suite across the hall, we discovered a few annoying things about our new room. We were now going to be sleeping in a full size bed with a night stand on only one side (major downgrade from king), the light switches for part of the suite were located in the public hallway, there was no way to shut off the AC which was blasting freezing air even though it was under 60 degrees outside, and the glass in the window in the bathroom was broken. The next day we discovered that the hair dryer blew actual flames when turned on, and that many of the outlets in the room didn't work at all. It was really conveniently located inside of the park, but I'm not sure I would stay here again.

Nice services, location, and room. Staff is friendly. Walls are a little thin though between my room and my neighbor because of an old connecting door. I could hear their conversations. Shuttle bus service also very convenient.

Mother's day brunch was obscenely overpriced, the selection was poor, the crab was stringy (refrozen? ), and the drinks were worse than those at the local bar. Two stars only because the staff was decent.

I went to the Gideon Putnam after an event at the Hall of Springs. The bar was very accommodating for a large crowd coming in all at once and provided some late night snacks that were great.

Old School hotel on picturesque State Park grounds. Adjoining historic, old school spa. Beautiful, historic area of New York State. Hosts conventions.

Out of the Ordinary Photography loves The Gideon Putnam for weddings! It has a classy vintage feel and you will love the new ballroom. The staff are always friendly and flexible for photo taking. If you are looking for a Saratoga Springs wedding venue, consider the Gideon!

Breathtakingly beautiful. I was in attendance for an event and so can't comment on the rooms but the building and surrounding grounds are gorgeous. Staff was pleasant and coffee was very good.

I loved staying here! It was so nice and can't wait to go back! Jim is really nice and was very helpful throughout our stay! Definitely recommend! Go to the spa if you have time too — my massage was excellent!

The massage was not good at all, not worth the money! The massage therapist Was nice but the massage felt so rushed and there was no pressure applied at all. Being a massage therapist myself, I understand Swedish/relaxation massage is not for deep pressure however this massage was so light to the touch that is made me want to jump out of my skin. The therapist did the same stoke throughout the whole massage, the drapes were very sloppy and he only worked on my calf not my whole leg. The therapist also talked throughout the majority of the massage. The massage was a half hour and the therapist felt so rushed, it was not relaxing at all. This is the second time I have had a very disappointing massage at Gideon Putnam, shame on me for going back. It was so dispointing to go to a high end spa, pay $75 for a 30 minute massage and not feel the least bit relaxed. I would only recommend Gideon Putnam for the baths not for massage services!

I attended a conference here with Parks staff and members of their affiliated friends groups from around New York State. The conference rooms were perfectly prepared, and hotel staff maintained a pleasant experience throughout the day-long affair. Breakfast and lunch were served buffet-style, and everything was delicious. The hotel setting and staff allowed attendees to focus on the task at hand by providing for all our needs.

Beautiful grounds. Wonderful meeting rooms. Cozy guest rooms. I always love my visits at the Gideon Putnam! The staff is also very attentive. Can't wait to utilize their spa services on my next visit!

Truly not worth a single star for Hotel accommodations but the review will not post without highlighting a star. The rooms are old, the carpet smells like dog. The facility does allow pets but there are too many. The bathrooms are in serious need of work. The air conditioners are loud and we killed 5 mosquitoes in one night. The lobby furniture is worn and the facility is in severe need of painting and cleaning. Lack of amenities. Very disappointing for the price.

What to know: The country’s first wellness spa, built in 1935 during the Great Depression under President Franklin Roosevelt, was constructed to help people relax, and is an ideal way to take in the fall foliage or escape the pressure of the city. How to Get There: Amtrak goes directly from New York City's Penn Station to Saratoga Springs, and the resort is just a few pleasant minutes’ walk from the rail station. What to Do: Book a heavenly soak at one of the 42 baths, and relax in the simple pleasure of immersing in water sources straight from three springs: the Geyser, Coesa, and Hathorn. The water is heated at a comfortable 98-102 degrees. After a soak, you can visit the Saratoga Race Track to slake your thirst of watching thoroughbreds, or the Saratoga Automobile Museum, which is housed in a bottling plant renovated in 2000.

Great place to stay and relax. And enjoy the surrounding area of Saratoga. Food at the Putnam is amazing.

Nice building but rooms weren't great. Doors didn't shut properly, other misc issues. This wasn't just my room but my family's as well.

The rooms were clean. The bathrooms needed a little paint. Looks like they will be renovating the rooms & lobby soon according to signs. The locale is very scenic. Good restaurants a short drive away.

Beautiful historic hotel in the heart of Saratoga Park. Great venue if seeing music at SPAC. Breakfast was good on the outdoor patio, although service was a bit slow.

This historic and elegant resort hotel tucked in the lovely, expansive state park is the best place to stay in Saratoga Springs, especially if you're going to SPAC. The food and the staff are outstanding. The Roosevelt Baths and Spa is pure heaven. Just the best!

Beautiful setting. Staff very courteous. Elegant and well maintained. Short walk to the performing arts center. Wonderful experience! Will go back!

The grounds of this hotel are fabulous and I had good interaction with staff. My room was good. However the halls are musty, rugs old and pillows on bed are for children, tiny and uncomfortable. There are some nice period pieces of furniture throughout the hotel but this place needs serious updating! You can incorporate old with new and if it wants to go another 75 years it should consider it.

The hotel was a nice hotel. The rooms we're nice and fresh also clean. Had few problems with the breakfast staff. One lady was extremely rude to my 4 year old daughter when she asked for a side of bacon with her pancakes. We pushed past that and enjoyed the stay.

The room was a little pricey for what you get. The rooms are dated and the front desk staff left a little too be desired (couldn't print receipt at check out and were very abrupt during booking). The grounds, however, were beautiful and a great place for the wedding we attended.

Was at the Gideon Putnam for two family functions, both catered by the hotel. The dinner was simple but good, although there was an issue as we specifically asked for no ham sandwiches in the spread, and despite this there were many ham sandwiches. Brunch was better, delicious lox platter and even more black berries. Service was little aggressive: "no I am not done with that plate yet", but overall very pleasant.

I am one to not write bad reviews but people need to be warned especially if you are looking for a nice place to stay. Our blinds were literally broke in half, the glass in the window was broken, there was a tick in the tub which was also filthy. The walls were full of scuff marks. And a big gash on closet door. The rug was dirty and so worn out. And no breakfast included. Decided to splurge and purchased fruit platter which the fruit was grosse and my raspberries had mold on them. You are better off staying at the Holiday Inn or The Hyatt in Malta. We have had our fair share of hotel stays over the years and this is by far the worst place ever. And what a disappointment for our 15th wedding anniversary getaway.

I attended a conference there. I did not stay there. I stayed there in the past and was not thrilled. They do not provide free breakfast (one of my main requirements). The Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites in Downtown Saratoga gives you more bang for the buck and is about a 10 minute drive to the Gideon.

My room was very large and the colors were inviting. Windows had cracks in them and couldn't close all the way so they couldn't lock. I was on the 5th floor so that want much on a concern. Tv was placed so that the whole TV had to be moved so I could spoon in to watch it in bed. Conference room was large, well lit, and comfortable. Overall, I'm not sure the hotel should be charging as much as it does for what you get. Other local hotels have indoor pools and hot tubs and done include some meals. You don't even get a continental breakfast!

Brief stay with my wife on a Saturday night during the winter. The charm and the history of the hotel is still present and the staff was charming and helpful the entire stay. The rooms were well updated, though there were a few chips in the bathroom tiles giving the guest a view at the past. Sunday brunch was excellent and buy far the best feature is the beauty surrounding the hotel. Easy to walk to all of the state park features including the mineral springs. We did not partake of the spa options, but those too are in walking distance on a nice day. Free shuttle into town is a nice extra and saves you from having to find parking.

I love it beautiful hotel clean rooms its little far away from down town Saratoga but hotel provides shuttle. Hotel guests parking is little far away from the hotel not a problem at all but if its a snowy day or cold it might be.

Our stay at the Gideon Putnam was lovely. The staff are very friendly, our room was large and comfortable. They also have a great free minibus service which takes you around town.

Needs work. I love the Gideon Putnam. I like the property, I like the history. The staff is always great as is the food. However, the guest rooms are getting old and in need of significant upgrades. Especially the bathrooms which have old fixtures. My room had a shower curtain rod which was so loose that it was leaving dust around the tiles and was close to falling down. Please fix this historic property and return it to its former glory.

We usually try to stay in town when we go to the track, this was the only place available and we were pleasantly surprised. We have stayed in the winter for a romantic weekend so we thought we would give it a try. They have a shuttle that will take you to the track or into town. We came back and had drinks outside in the rocking chairs while listening to live music. My favorite is the chili, it is amazing. The breakfast was a little overpriced. The grounds are very nice for a walk in the morning and if you stay at the hotel you have the use of the Victoria pool, however there seems to be a line to get into it early, we did not visit it.

Terrible service. Had money stole out of my room while I was away. Reported to the front desk. The lady who was supposedly in charge has taken no step to returning or figuring what happened to my money. Maids continued to knock on my door, even though I had the do not disturb sign out. One maid walked into my room while my sister was in there and said she thought her friend was in there, which is absurd because why would another maid be in a room with a do not disturb sign out. Would never recommend this place to anyone and would have felt more secure in a motel.

Went 2 weeks ago. The receptionist was overall incompetent. Asked him to book us an appointment at the mineral baths. After driving 4 hours to the hotel and then making it to the baths we were told that he did not reserve anything. He managed to screw up the booking and when we arrived the bath receptionist said nothing was booked for us while the hotel kept asserting that they did do the booking. Overall that bald bloke with glasses working the hotel's reception on sundays is completely useless. You're better off going to the race track and betting on horses. Put some trifecta. Better chance you'll win something than getting anything out of that hotel.

Worst experience possible. The staff is beyond rude and impossible to deal with. I had my wedding at the Hall of Springs and attempted to book rooms for myself and my guests as well as a brunch the next day. The staff was not helpful and went out of their way to make things difficult for us. They told our guests when they called to book rooms there that our room block was invalid, there were no rooms available (when indeed there were plenty), that we were not staying there, and the list goes on and on. They said they were going to do things that they never did. Every question took at least 3 calls to get an answer. Do yourself a HUGE favor and book elsewhere. You will save yourself a major headache in the end. The rooms were not even the greatest. Our "bridal suite" had a shower with no water pressure and the water did not drain. Gross.

After more than a decade at the Gideon Putnam Hotel, one might think it would be time to "move on, " but for my husband and I that is not even a thought. Through the years we've seen many changes and we think they've all been for the best. It's not just the hotel itself, it's the people. From the moment we make our reservations Deanna Kirk is on it, making sure all our desires are met. She is not only extremely professional and knowledgeable but she is kind and caring. For years she has answered all of our questions, concerns, cares promptly. We just love her. Rich, the bell hop greats us like he knows us, that's pretty special to us. Shaunna at the reception desk, what a great personality! Always a warm hello, makes a point of knowing who you are and addressing you by name. We appreciate that Shaunna! The ladies who clean our room always have a smile and a hello, how was your year? We have not met one person working at the Gideon who hasn't been pleasant. It tells us that management treats them pretty well, and that says a lot. Linda, the hostess with the mostess in the Putnam Restaurant, she is a joy and a professional. So, thank you Deanna, Shaunna, our cleaning ladies, and all the wonderful men and women working at the hotel, we really appreciate you. Thank you for making it so that there will be "no moving on" for us.

Waited on the phone for 10 minutes to make a reservation; no one ever picked up the phone. Called the front desk and told them about the problem; they put me back on the same ""reservation" line. Waited another 12 minutes and no one picked up the phone this time either. If this is any indication of the service at this resort, I think I'd be better off going somewhere else.

Rolled up to the front and the service was immediately upon us. Bell hop was very nice and friendly and the concierge took care of our concerns without hesitation. Rooms are very clean. Look forward to a great weekend here.
