Stayed for business and left as fast as I could. Room was filthy. $180 for a Monday night stay and they gave me a room that was not cleaned. Would not recommend.

My boyfriend and I stayed in NYC to visit a few friends around the holidays. The Wolcott Hotel was reasonably priced compared to nearby hotels considering we booked for the weekend before Christmas. The staff was extremely friendly & accommodating. They accepted my requested for a room with a view of the Empire State Building with no issue. The staff also held our luggage after checkout so we could spend the remainder of the day out & about. Our room was clean and perfect for a quick weekend getaway. They offer a complimentary breakfast of muffins and coffee in the lobby. As well as a voucher for a beverage at Ayza, a neighboring wine and chocolate bar. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!

Stayed here for 4 days at the end of August. It’s a lovely hotel, but its rooms are a little dated decor wise. The lobby is beautiful with stunning original features but the rooms could definitely do with updating. However, the room was extremely clean and comfortable. The beds were great and the bedding was of great quality. The staff at the hotel reception were always friendly & helpful and the tea/coffee and muffins in the morning were great. If you want slightly more for breakfast there is a Panera on 5th which is 2 mins walk away and the food was lovely. The location of The Wolcott is a huge selling point as it’s 5 mins walk from The Empire State and 20 mins from Central Park which was brilliant. All in all I’d definitely stay here again, but do hope they brighten the ambiance a bit! It really could be a stunning hotel if given a bit of love.

Great location and really close to Empire State Building & famous Macys. The staff is really friendly. Rooms are clean and big enough for a short stay. Breakfast with coffee and muffins also good. Definitely comin' back to NYC and especially stayin' at the Wolcott! :)

I had never been to NYC before, and I admit, when I sat the photos of the hotel, I thought it was a bit too "old" looking (I normally go for the plain modern hotels). Now, I am SO HAPPY I stayed with them. I was travelling by myself and the hotel staff made me feel incredibly welcome, had loads of useful advice, oh dear lord the beds are so comfortable and I felt safe. Not to mention, the location is beyond amazing. You have the Empire State building right next to you, which …means exploring NYC is incredibly easy. Highly recommend! Only tip; if you stay (and you should), bring earplugs. This is not a moan about the hotel, but because of its central location in the city that never sleeps, you do get a bit of noise (very minimal, but it's there), so light sleepers bring earplugs for a peaceful night's sleep.

Great hotel, steeped in history. Love the decor. The room we has as a little small but we only used it to sleep. The location is excellent and I will be back next year with the whole family.

Wall AC did not work well. Room was smoke free but smelled like cigarettes. Staff was nice and location is good. Standard 2-3start hotel.

It's all about location when it comes to this hotel. The amenities and comfort level are typical of a 3-star Hotel. Don't expect too much but it's the perfect location if you're touring New York especially Manhattan Times Square area. Close proximity to all the tourist favorites such as the Empire State Building Times Square Macys shops and bars. The accommodations are average. The decor is beautiful on the inside I love the architecture. The beds were average comfort level. Rooms are relatively small but that's what you expect in a crowded City like New York.

Hotel was really nice. Front desk people checking in were so kind. I really liked our suite. The elevator took a long time coming up and down but it's a 100 year old hotel so it's understandable. Parking is right across the street which is really convient and it's within walking distance to a lot of food and bar lounges.

It's pretty good, not too expensive. Would be better if the rooms had a fridge.

The hotel is fantastic. The rooms are clean, staff are friendly and in the morning (if you get there fast enough) there are free muffins, tea and coffee. It is located right in the heart of New York and has great views and access to public transport. The only downside is that the rooms are a bit small.

Hotel is in a location closer to Times Square (15 minutes walk). Many convenience stores and restaurants are close by. The hotel is an old style architecture. The carpets are old and a bit smelly. Otherwise clean place. No coffee maker or refrigerator are in the rooms. They have three single bedded rooms which is good for group/family travellers. Most of the staff are helpful and smiling. Some of them pose a strict teacher look! No breakfast served here. Only muffin and coffee from 6 to 9 am.

Very well located hotel in the heart of Midtown, overlooking the Empire State building. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was very clean. In the morning, coffee and muffins are offered, the lounge on the ground floor is welcoming with these sofas and armchairs in velvet… Nothing to complain about, I will come back without hesitation!

Charming historic hotel located in central Manhattan. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms are cozy and bedbug free. Great location for exploring New York.

Great and supportive staff. Check-in was super fast and they upgraded us to a suite because we were with our 2 1/2 year old. Location can’t be beat. Easy walk to Madison square park, union square, Rockefeller and all of the roof top bars in that area. Only complaint is that the room was dark. The hotel itself is quirky. That is part of its charm all bathrooms seem to have all the new amenities. They have no problem hold your luggage. More than enough room. No restaurant or bar im hotel but there is one right across the street as well as all around he place. Good times. Easy in and out and for a price that just can’t be beat.

Nice little hotel in the middle of NY Manhattan. From my room I could look directly at the Empire State Building. The breakfast consisted of muffins and coffee tasted good. Really great is the absolutely central location and the proximity to Time Square. Macy's is also only a 5-minute walk away. The size of the room was quite sufficient for me. I would book again at any time. Thx 4 Goodtimes!

Nice clean hotel in a top location. The muffins for breakfast were plentiful and delicious! Staff is helpful and friendly! Very noisy at night. Which is not only due to traffic, but also to the very noisy heating and showers…
Conclusion: Price-performance is very good!

I was extremely happy with my stay at the Wolcott! The staff was super friendly to me and any of my friends that came to meet me there. They were also very helpful anytime I needed them. The accommodations were actually much nicer than what I expected from reading all the other reviews. Everything was super clean, renovated and nice. The lobby is beautiful and the free breakfast muffins were delicious! Thank you Wolcott and everyone I had the pleasure of dealing with for making my stay wonderful! All the best, Derek.

It's a great location hotel. Clean. Spacious enough. Rare gem with 3 twin beds for 3 people. Super small bathroom. Great price. Front desk was not friendly.

Bad room service, no mini-fridge, a microwave, and a breakfast with hours limited and very poor, with no comfortable place to sit in a dining room. Use the reception area with chairs and is quite of uncomfortable.

Darling old time feel in midtown. Charming & enchanting. Cozy. A hit spot for Europeans traveling to the city — feels like a European getaway in NYC. Close to the subways and the empire State building. Everything you need is a convenient walk away.

This hotel is great for location and the bed is super comfy! The fact that they can hold your luggage for you whilst you explore on your last day is also a great bonus! The staff were super friendly and helped us greatly with luggage. The room was so clean and the shower room was also great for disabled access. I don't understand why everyone was complaining about the lift as sure it is a little slow to open but with a little patience you will be fine! This hotel is close to the subway on 34th street as well as the empire state building and has plenty of shops nearby for food, snacks and other goods. The only minor issue I had with the trip, and this had nothing to do with the hotel, was the street Korea way. This street had so many bin bags that is smelt really bad if you walk down the street in the evening. This is easily avoidable as you don't have to walk down 32nd street to get to the hotel. Thankfully 31st street did not have this problem with bin bags. Overall great hotel and was perfect for our stay in New York!

It was very close to the metro station and the street. But what is much more important is the courtesy and kindness of the staff. Great idea to offer breakfast to its guests staying in this hotel. Room a little dated but clean.

Location Location Location this should be one of your top priorities when looking for a hotel and The Wolcott has it! The hotel is centrally located in Midtown Manhattan in a safe location near lots of Subways and Times Square and the prices are far below other hotels in the area. This is an older hotel: tacky wallpaper, old carpets, windows that open all the way however they are not soundproof, very tiny bathroom. This is probably how they keep the place’s prices so low. Room had all the basics: blazing hot water, TV, plethora of closet/storage space, and a safe. No thrills here and being in NYC you have plenty to do outside of your hotel and should be out and about. Customer Service was very nice to us. They let us check in early and when we bought a cheesecake they asked if we wanted them to hold it for us in their fridge. They always had a smile and would great us every morning and night. The hotel also offers muffins, coffee, and tea included in the price which is nice if you want something quick. My only complaints are that the bathroom is to small, and it is not the cleanliness could be better. It is not dirty but since it is so old you question how much filth is on everything. If you are looking for luxury this is not the place for you. However, if you need a safe place to sleep and put your belongings in a great location I highly recommend the Wolcott.

We were there in September 2017. Our room was a nice size … and the beds were super comfortable … the rooms were cleaned every day. We would book there again … the muffins in the morning were really the hammer … sooooo delicious … the location is very central … good access to the transport network …

Wolcott is a storied hotel with a pompous entrance hall. The rooms are spacious and old-fashioned. The beds are very comfortable. The daily cleaning is thorough, the staff friendly. The hotel is an ideal base for activities.
However, you better have breakfast elsewhere. There is no breakfast room in the hotel. All guests sit in armchairs in the entrance hall. There is a choice between coffee, tea and four types of muffins. That's it.
That didn't really bother us, but you should have on the screen that you might have to buy something more nutritious on the go. And that can go into the money at New York prices.

The hotel is old with small rooms and with a non existent service. No one speaks in Italian. The only good thing about getting out of the hotel is in the middle of many buildings and places of attraction, and in the morning they offer you coffee and muffins, served in places of luck, unusual for Manhattan where everything costs a lot and nobody offers anything.

This place is haunted. Which is awesome. My girlfriend had someone knock on the door and she heard laughter in the hallway. When she opened the door, the hall was empty but she could hear the laughter still as though it were right in front of her. Then, on the elevator down, she encountered an Irish gentleman with a cane dressed as though it was 1916 or something. His presence made the elevator cold. And he told her, 'It's a hard life. "

Our stay at the Wolcott was wonderful. We only spent one night there, but everything was so comfortable. I did have some strange experiences with children laughing in the hallway only to not be able to find anyone around. There was also a strange man with a cane in the elevator who mysteriously disappeared. Considering we came to the Wolcott knowing we may have some encounters, I'd say it lived up to our expectations!

Good, clean room. Functional but dated. Spotless bathroom. As with every hotel in New York City the room is small. Staggeringly beautiful lobby. Quick check-in and check-out. I'd stay there again because it's convenient to subway transportation and if the price was right.

Tonight will be our 6th night. Our last night in NY. Our stay has been great. The staff have been polite. The rooms are spacious. Our view isn't the best but we didn't mind. They let us check in early which was great as we had been flying for 22hrs and awake for 30ish hours in total and the best bit is it's such a great location. Central to everything and plenty of shops around. Glad we stayed here.

Great location just in front of the Empire State Building, the rooms are well-maintained and cln details in a good relationship quality price. The service is very friendly, and have a breakfast in the morning consisting of coffee or tea and some delicious muffins, which is not very usual in other hotels of the area.

From the moment we arrived after our flight from Manchester, England, we were treat with the utmost respect and kindness by all the staff. One of the gentlemen on reception, Mr Naeem Butt, was especially helpful on our last day, looking after our luggage & helping us to our taxi. Many thanks to all the staff for a lovely stay. Very nice old hotel in the center of New York, with a very old beautiful hall with lots of atmosphere — the central location gives you the opportunity to connect to all of the major sightings in NY. We got an room upgrade without extra charge. Check out at 12:30 pm, and the possibility to choose smoking room, which is old school and nice.

Fantastic location. 24 hrs open bread and butter is right across the corner. The room seemed a little dated but was relatively clean. Bathroom was decent, not to small. Wi-Fi isn't free.

Location was great, but it was very noisy. Heard disturbingly loud in building construction early in the morning. Building is outdated and rooms could use a refresh.

The room was smaller than expected but the bathroom was quite large. The room was clean and the bed was soft. We were attending an event nearby.

One of NYC's "best kept secrets" for affordable hotel accommodations — — often as low as half the average price of most hotels in midtown Manhattan. Best of all, it remains a family owned and run hotel, one of the few left, as giant corporate chains have taken over the industry. This means very friendly service, from a dedicated staff who welcome you by name the second time you visit. Also, a fascinating place in its own right. The over-the-top lobby has to be seen to be believed (check photos). And includes a little side-room "Museum" with mementos from famous former guests — — including Mark Twain, Edith Wharton and Buddy Holly.

The Wolcott Hotel was the perfect place to stay while I was in NYC for 6 days. The location was amazing, with 2 subways only a 5 min walk away and Times Square about a 10 min walk as well! The hotel itself has a ton of character and the architecture originally from 1904 is wicked. I stayed in room 1019 and had an awesome view of the Empire State Building! The room was perfect and the bed was really comfy. The staff were super friendly and always happy to help with any questions I had about the hotel and surrounding area. The morning coffee and muffins were great the mornings I was up on time, but there is a donut and coffee shop opposite which is perfect if you decide to sleep in and still want breakfast. I would highly recommend staying here and I will definitely be staying here again on my next trip to NYC! Thanks for a great trip!

Just not a good hotel. I — as a 6'4" man — somehow had three (not two) twin beds in my room. The shower could barely fit a dwarf, the sink was inaccessible because the towel bar was directly across from it. Hot (old AC units barely worked). Front desk staff was somewhat obtuse… Historic, yes. Good, no.

Friendly Hotel and in the middle of New York. It was a very pleasant hotel. Just a 3 minute walk from Madison Square Garden, right on Fifth Avenue, with laundry and shop inside. We were favorably amazed.

This hotel is beautiful, the transportation convenience, from the hotel front could see the Empire State Building it. From room to see the behind view is not good. This building good, old-fashioned art of renovation, but the maintenance. The front Desk staff was very helpful and polite. Cleaning staff was very efficient. Definitely worth it.

A quiet, attractive, historic place to stay, right in the center of everything. Steps off 5th Avenue, the backbone of NYC, and convenient to lots of transportation options. Rates are reasonable, without being the cheapest you'll find in midtown. Wi-Fi, on the other hand, is extortionate — be prepared to tether from your smartphone, or something. There's a free breakfast of coffee and muffins every morning, as well as a small gym and business center. But the real interesting bits are the great old lobby, the little 'museum' showing early articles and letters from famous guests, and the classic old-time ballroom! Make sure you get a look at those.

Loved this place. Just the right mixture of fun + traditional, cheap (ish) but not nasty, and in a great central location. The foyer is uber-fabulous, and makes a great meeting place or just a place to hang out (and use the free Wi-Fi! ), and rooms were basic but with everything you need for a good visit. Staff were helpful and friendly, there's a free basic breakfast (coffee and muffins) every morning, and a small business centre. The laundromat in the basement also came in handy. Pro tip: If you want to start the day with more than a muffin in your belly, head just down the road to Bread & Butter, where you can buy almost any type of food known to humankind, and pay by weight. The breakfast is great value if you just want to eat and get going (of course, if you have time to linger over breakfast there are plenty more gourmet places in New York to try). I would go back to the Wolcott, for sure :)

2nd visit here and again can't fault other than one little detail, the heating… we stayed on the coldest weekendin New York in over 100yrs the morning room temperature however hit 30c bearing in mind we were going out dressed like Nannook of the North it was a mare getting ready. … nit picking really… would definitely recommend.

Good hotel for Manhattan as the price is affordable the hotel is old like 100 years old but really comfortable and safe the front desk staff are not the best I would stay there again as the location is seductive as its at the back of the Empire state building and near to macy's and time square. Subway is near too.

The rooms are cheap and massive for the location. It's definitely not luxury accommodations, but its hard to do better on a budget.

Stayed in this hotel because all other name brand hotels were over $700 a night because of a special event in the city. Hotel was clean and safe. Room had three twin beds and a lot of room for a New York hotel room. I would stay here again if the same situation arose again.

Stayed here for five nights in January on a university trip. The hotel itself is cold our room was freezing the heating didn't work, neither did the internet the phone in the room or our safe. May of just been a an unlucky pick but I would not stay there again the staff are't friendly and I almost felt unwelcome. The only good thing about this hotel is it's location.

I know always the second visit is less satisfactory than the first impression. This rule was same but severer here in Wolcott hotel. The first attraction was authentic antique (Baroque style) lobby and old European style room and stink. This time I could see in normal way and feel this hotel has many problems to satisfy normal travelers. Room is too small for normal sized person. I couldn't put my shoulder over the face wash bath. Room is dusty. Above all the heating system is wonderful. This simulates both tropical and antarctic weather in every one hour. May be due to poor insulation system. I can hear outside sound in a very vivid way. I confused that I opened the window completely. If you are not in normal health, it is quite dangerous for your to catch common cold in a night. In addition, there are no complimentary water, normal soap and body washer. The hair dryer is out of order. No free Wi-Fi is supplied here. You should buy it in a reasonable price but sending e-mail may not work due to a stranger server system. Only one merit of this hotel is location, which is at the center of Manhattan just aside Empire state building. But this merit may be cancelled by its high price. The best way to enjoy this hotel is just visiting the lobby and taking photo. Thanks.

This hotel is in need of a good cleaning. Our room was dark and dusty. The hallway smelled of gym socks, feet and a vacuum cleaner that needs a new bag. I understand hotel management and owners wanting to keep the original architectural detail however this hotel needs a lot of TLC. The lobby furniture looked old and worn out. The staff was nice. Best onsite amenity was the bathroom. The location to food, shopping and theater district were great. My husband thinks the location was best. All in all, I love visiting NYC and this trip was full with pleasure. I did not enjoy the Hotel Wolcott. Sorry.

Ab sofort mein Lieblingshotel in NY: +Unser 3 Bett Zimmer war für NYC — Verhältnisse riesig und hatte einen separaten Schlafraum für das 3te Bett. +Die Leute an der Reception waren super nett und hilfsbereit +Super Lage gleich beim EmpireStateBuilding +Gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis +Leckere Muffins (BlueBerry mein Favorit) und Kaffee in der Empfangshalle, Reception gibt sogar Tablet, damit man seine Lieben im Zimmer damit bedienen kann :-) +Sehr sauber und alles funktioniert bestens -der Lift ist sehr langsam und zur Rush Hour überlastet -WLan ist kostenpflichtig und trotz hoher Kosten über 40$/Woche, nur für ein einziges, registriertes Gerät nutzbar (kein Login, mit welchem man mit verschiedenen Geräten einwählen könnte).

I've been coming to New York at least once a year for as long as I can remember. A friend recommended The Wolcott and said she absolutely loved it. She kept saying "Wait until you see the lobby. " I've stayed in a lot of hotels in the city, and couldn't quite picture what she was so amazed by. Well, let me tell you. When I walked inside The Wolcott, I was floored. The lobby is so ornate and you feel like you stepped into old time New York City. It's a shame that more architecture hasn't been upheld the same way. Truly a treat. The check-in process was quick and painless. My room was on the 10th floor and to my surprise, I looked out my window and the Empire State Building was literally right there. I'm guessing tourists are willing shell out double what I paid for my room to have a location as prime as this. The hotel is three blocks away from the Empire State and Times Square is only a ten minute walk, if that. It's a central location, which is great for me (I might come to NYC once a year but the subways still make me a little anxious). The staff was very friendly and efficient. They know their stuff and were always willing to help. I'm a big foodie so I was constantly bombarding them with where they thought the best places were to eat. Speaking of food, there's complimentary muffins in the morning which I think are probably too delicious.

We have been coming to this little gem for years. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Between Broadway and Fifth — can it get any better?! Nearest subway is 2 blocks away (32nd and Bdwy), Penn Station/Madison Square Garden (which is fun to experience) is a 5 minute walk. Macy's — 3 blocks. Fun to just walk Fifth Ave — lots to see. 32nd Street has great Korean restaurants. And the staff, oh the staff — LOVE these people! This year we arrived very late Christmas night and were greeted with a warm "hello, good to see you". Can't wait to go back very soon.

Had an awesome Valentine's Day with my girlfriend. Not only is it in the heart of the city and close to places like Times Square (which is where we were that night) but it's also close to shops and drug stores — I had to step out and get a few things and the concierge directed me to a CVS which was a few blocks away; the items I was unable to get at CVS, I got at a Duane Reade a block ahead! Room was clean, and is very reasonable for those on a budget — which is ironic I say that because I could have swore there were a bunch of rich kids staying at the hotel that night, as well. So why only four stars out of five? There was a guy behind the check-in desk who, how can I say it nicely. He saw me and my girlfriend and he couldn't wait for us to leave — at least that's my perception, anyway. But an overall favorable experience.

One of the best choices I made was staying at the Wolcott Hotel. If you are on a budget this is the place to stay and its close to shopping, sightseeing, and the theater district. Not only was my room clean and tidy but I had a fabulous view of the Empire State Building. Great staff, always with a smile and willing to help with any questions you have. The free muffins and coffee in the mornings are a plus. I will recommend this hotel to all my friends and family and would stay at the Wolcott Hotel again.

Excellent location, is close to everything, a little spoiled to than usual in Spain, nostril in the Concierge a charm of Armenia, (loves baby singer), we were 7 nights and it wouldn't let me repeat.
