The Lodge is a charming and historical hotel. It has a welcoming feeling of coming home. The rooms are comfortable, and we often gathered with other guests in the upstairs lobby. It is family friendly. However artists, musicians, and notable people slip in and stay under the radar of the public. I was surprised to find out how many famous people stay there. It reminded me of being at an inn rather than a commercial hotel. The building is sturdy and old and full of character and gorgeous knotty pine. It is like stepping back to a simplier time where people look you in the eye when they speak to you and are genuinely glad you are there. There is an amazing restaurant, Texas Reds. It has great steaks and a small bar, the Lost Love, where incredibly talented musicians are playing while you drink or eat and all is housed within the hotel. The staff knew my name and were happy to share the events going on in town. If you are looking for a true Red River, NM experience this is the place. I definitely will be a return guest.

If you're looking for rest and relaxation, this is NOT the place. It's adjacent to the motherlode bar and across from Bull of the Woods bar. The walls in the room are paper thin and you can hear people coughing four rooms away. The bathroom was very small and not lit well at all. In fact, when you went to take a shower and you shut the curtain, it became almost pitch black. We ended up putting a lamp in the bathroom to help us see better while we used the shower. The bed and pillows were hard as rocks. Room is pretty bare bones and no extra amenities. There isn't anywhere to sit aside from a wooden kitchen chair. The balcony is nice, but again there's too much noise that isn't being filtered out and there is no furniture on the balcony. There is a restaurant downstairs called Texas Reds that's open in the evenings until 9pm and the same with their bar. I wouldn't recommend this lodge unless you just don't care where you're staying.
