The best service in Woodstock Vermont! Barbara & Joe are fantastic. They will make sure your stay is wonderful. Family run hotel in a super cute town! Across the street from grocery store. Walk into town for dinner or homemade waffle ice cream cone.

This looks like a lovely hotel. We were planning a post holiday getaway for the end of December, but everyone in our family became ill with a stomach flu. The reservation policy would not allow us to move our reservation more than 1 month ahead, which was a problem for us. Not asking for deposit back, just the ability to apply it to a future stay. Very disappointed.

Great place, we had a great time with a beautiful view of the river. This was our 2 time and they didn’t disappoint us. Until next time. ❤️ thanks for another great time.

Great location if you're competing at GMHA, close to the show grounds, food, and right on the main drag. Rooms were clean, good size, very lovely staff.

The rooms and property are well kept the room's are spacious The staff is so friendly and the scenery in the back of the property is amazing. I would highly recommend The Shirer.

Best bed ever. It is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on.

My wife & I stayed here in September 2018. Nice room in the River House, quiet & comfortable. Good location (within easy walking distance to downtown). Staff was super nice, as were the other guests that we met. (My wife is a teacher, I am an attorney).

I booked the King Cape room and the amenities were peefect. The check in process was simple and friendly, and the front desk was outstanding with customer service. I will be staying here any time I pass by Woodstock!

The space is wonderful and the location is right on the river. There is a grocery store right across the street also!

If you go ask for second floor room. Very noisy on first floor. Maid did not do up our room one day. Room was very basic and no coffee in room as advertised. Bed was very comfortable. Good location to stores and food.

Friendly staff and great location! However, it could definitely use updating to stay current with the expectations of guests nowadays. Bathroom is small and outdated, no screens on the windows so open = insects. The potential of the property and location are outstanding so hopefully they work on remodeling the rooms.

Very clean! Beautiful view of the river from our back patio. Great king sized bed! Very comfortable. Cute little place to stay at!

What a great little gem. Big rooms. Big king size bed. Lots of big comfortable pillows. Big windows with great views of the river. The bottle of maple syrup that's included with each stay is 3.4 ounces, maybe a pancake and a half. More like a "nip" of maple syrup. Wah wah. Staff was very friendly.

Great location next to downtown. Grocery store across the street. Walk to shops and dining. Really nice rooms. River views are sweet. Staff is super accommodating and very pleasant. Highly recommended.

Cape house rocks. Rooms are clean, fireplace, and perfect size Jacuzzi for 2. We love Woodstock and this is where we stay everytime we escape for a couple nights.

We are in a room with a fire place and jacuzzi in the middle of the room. The furniture is a mish mosh of a bunch of old furniture. Very weird. They said we have a great view. All I see is the street and he hotel next door?!

Mattress is way to hard, noisey air conditioner… Good luck falling asleep. No kidding, I'm writing this review in my hotel bed now at 1:30 AM!

We have been return customers here every time we come to Woodstock for our vacation over the years and have recommended it to friends. The river views from the rooms and the rocking chairs and tables by each door make everything very welcoming. The rooms are clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Love being able to hear the river water softly bubbling over the rocks as you view the scenery from your window. Very relaxing. Also the stores and cafes are all within walking distance.

Wonderful place! Carpet needs replacing but very clean overall. Sitting by the brook is very relaxing and the view brings back childhood memories of our farm in Woodstock.

Quiet place on river side with good views and ample parking. Food is available 5-10 minutes away on foot.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. The room was nice, roomy, had a gas fireplace, and a shared balcony with a view of the river. The bed and pillows were comfortable (similar to most other hotels I've stayed at). The bathroom was pretty standard, and the water pressure and temperature in the shower was good. My only complaint is with the climate control in the room. There is a thermostat on the wall, and hot water baseboard heating in the room. At night, we like it cool, so we turned the thermostat down, and the room stayed at close to 80 degrees! It was so hot, we ended up opening a window all night… in Vermont… in February! I couldn't tell if there was some other heating system other than the baseboards, or if it was just an ultra-insulated place, or maybe the people on the first floor just had their heat cranked way up, but something was amiss to say the least. The only other thing to know is that the room has limited electrical outlets. If you stay with another person, and each of you has a phone to charge, and a smart watch to charge, and perhaps a laptop or Kindle, you may have a hard time unless you also bring a power strip too. Despite that, I still think the 4 star rating is appropriate. It was definitely cheaper to stay there vs the other inns and B&B's in town. Also, it was a very easy walk into the beautiful down town area where there are a plethora of shops and restaurants, not to mention the very pretty scenery.

Nice lodge. Coffee station with Swiss miss is nice to have 24 hours. Clean rooms with very nice beds. Cable TV has limited channels but other than that I have no complaints. A very nice place.

It's a great place to stay to visit the area. It has a really nice peaceful view of the river out the back.

My husband and I took a spontaneous trip to Woodstock and had the pleasure of staying at the Shire. Neither of us had been there before. We recently got married and upon arrival, we were congratulated by the staff at the desk and also had a card waiting in our room for us, wishing us many years of happiness! It felt wonderful to be acknowledged like that. The room was great, view was nice and it was quiet. We will be back each year on our anniversary!

Situated along a main drag on Woodstock, the Shire is one of many hotels. But, it's not cookie cutter. It's divine. We arrived at night but this were charmed by the sight of the building. We were greeted in the office by a cheery young woman who gave us a local map, a list of local restaurants and an info guide to the hotel. Our room had Windows in the door and a lovely visage inside. Spacious and inviting, we fell into the beds. Which were like falling into a supportive cloud. The best beds! In the morning we looked out the back windows to see a lovely stream running past. Our only quibble was the wi fi was finicky. My cell phone was able to connect but neither my iPad or my friend's phone could connect. Possibly more repeaters would be nice to help with wi fi connectivity. This is a place to feel comfortable in a lovely town.

Outstanding stay for first ever trip to Vermont! Loved the view out the back of the building, and the proximity to everything needed to see in Woodstock!

Great place. Our third time staying here. Excellent location within a short walk to anything in Woodstock. Even the most basic rooms are better than most motels at the price. We recently stayed in a room with a fireplace, King bed and balcony overlooking the river. The room had lots of space with a sitting area and two nice chairs. The only negative was the TV. Although it was a flat screen, it was a low end model with a less than average picture. This is not a deal breaker but nonetheless a negative to a great room. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

I had a very nice stay. My only complaint is that the Wi-Fi signal in our room was very weak, and since most cell phones get very spotty signal in this part of Vermont, the Wi-Fi in the room was my sole link to the Internet. Having poor Wi-Fi in this area is a bigger deal than it would be in other areas. But, despite that, overall I found the experience very positive.

Great place to stay when in town. Always recommend to friends and family. Can't go wromg.

Rooms are nice — clean and nice. Not very expensive — probably the cheapest in Woodstock. Great view over the river and across the fields. Nice family owns the place. Easy walk to the middle of the village.

The motel is centrally located and comfortable. My limited interaction with the staff was pleasant. Great views!
