Stayed here during a Steampunk event and the hospitality was incredible! The estate was beautiful and had such a wonderful history. I would definitely come back again!

Highly recommended! When we stayed the staff was very polite and very helpful! The food was very tasteful. It was quiet and we found the underground tour very interesting and enjoyable!

We love the Tavern, nice atmonsphere, great staff, food is always delicious and live music too.

The food and dining atmosphere is high-end and 5 stars! I've not rented a room, so I cannot comment on the amenities of the hotel side.

Great food, live music and ambiance. Could do without the servers resetting the table and placements while I was still seated with company watching the band and dining. A bit off putting and tacky. No other complaints, had a lovely first visit and will still return.

Beautiful historic home converted to an inn many years ago. The location is close to downtown Springfield on a quiet street. The service was friendly. We stayed in a room in their newer wing. It was comfortable and clean with basic amenities. The room rate was affordable and included a continental breakfast which included egg sandwiches made to order. The property offers a tunnel tour most nights that we would have liked to join, but our plans did not allow for. The building could do with a fresh coat of paint. We did not eat/drink at the tavern. Overall, the inn met our needs and we enjoyed a comfortable stay. We will return in the future when we have a need to stay in the area overnight.

Nice room, bar is cozy, menu is limited. If you're looking for simple food this is not for you. Entertainment is local.

Very basic accommodations and kind of off the beaten path. That being said, the pub had amazing farm to table food for dinner, there is a cool meteorology collection in the basement, and a lot of beautiful shared spaces in the main house. I went during school vacation week where the in was running at full capacity. Probably would be better when less busy.

Great stay at the very unique and possibly haunted mansion, The Hartness House Inn. It is not to be missed! We highly recommend it if you want an unusual elegant B&B. Beautiful architecture, lovely antiques and a welcoming caring staff that makes you feel like you are a guest in their personal home. The coolest thing about this B&B mansion is the underground tunnels, speakeasy, and 1900s telescope museum! The creepiest thing about this B&B is the underground sealed doors, cabinets and hallways that have never been opened! I hope someday they open them to find the treasures that may be sealed away and see if the tunnels indeed lead all the way to the town of Springfield.

I just spent the first night of my 2 night stay here at the inn and I have to say, it's amazing! The architecture is so beautiful, the room is so comfortable and the staff is just amazing! Dinner was exquisite, best prime rib I've had in a very long time! If you have been on the fence, come! Stay! Enjoy it as much as I am!

This week is coming to an end very quickly and my stay here has been awesome, everybody is extremely friendly, and very polite. The architecture is incredible with the dated rooms with incredible staircase. The tunnel tour is great step back into the great history this place and a great story to tell of its previous owner. The best part being I get the stay another week to take it all in. Highly recommend a stay here if you get the chance!

It's an amazing place. I loved my stay there. Food in the tavern was very delicious, service as well.

We stayed one night in one of the simple rooms at the back of the hotel. Honestly, I preferred the decor in these rooms than the 'vintage' style of the more expensive rooms. It was very basic but felt clean and comfortable. The best part of our stay was the complementary breakfast in the morning. The woman making the food was super nice and even served us before 7:30 (when it was supposed to start). We had fresh, made to order omelets with delicious local bacon. With such affordable rates, we'll definitely be back!

Quiet place with limited service. Front desk is gone after 8pm. Food options are limited and our room didn't get serviced. I am being generous with 4 because the people were nice enough to help us out with our party of 10.

I've been here for a week each year over two years. I commend them for their outstanding breakfasts and quaint rooms. Sometimes parking takes a while, as there are limited spaces, but it is a really nice place.

The Hartness House Inn seemed lovely, ad I was onot a Inn tour. The rooms were spacious and we'll appointed. The manager is well versed on the history of the building. Recent update's were pointed out as well as future plans. The tour any accompanying treats were terrific.

Attended T'was The Night Before Christmas event at the inn. It was really really nice. And the inn is beautiful! I will definitely be back to check out the tavern.

Excellent service, beautiful historic rooms, and the best food I've had the pleasure of experiencing in my entire life. It was an honor to stay and dine with the Heartness House family. The only thing I would have changed is to have stayed another night!

The room and the hotel are quite rustic in an old fashioned, stately way. The hidden gem is the restaurant/bar which makes amazing food.

The Vermont steampunk festival was incredible this year. Karneval was informative and entertaining. The boardgames for the game room we're well chosen, and the location is the perfect atmosphere for such an event. The food Vending was pretty good, and the only thing that was sub par was the merch vending.

The Hartness House Inn was so beautiful. It was kept nicely and the people there were friendly and welcoming as well.

Strange little place but very cool once you get inside. Definitely wasn't expecting to find this in Springfield.

My husband and I were in awe at the beauty of the Hartness House the moment we stepped inside. The decor was gorgeous — displaying the true atmosphere of a historical structure. Each room was unique complete with a design scheme from this era. In addition to the house itself, the staff was nothing but courteous and helpful. We had a chance to speak with the head chef Nick and couldn't be more proud of all the hard work put into the Hartness House. Breakfast was our favorite part of our stay… the blueberry pancakes were amazing!

Everything is great here. The accomodations, staff, and especially the exceptional customer service.

My husband laid down in the bed and there was an attic ceiling that was angled over the bed. I sat down next to him I noticed a bug crawling on the ceiling. I'd never seen one like that. I put it in a zip lock called and texted my son who has experience with entomology-I texted enlarged pictures of the bug. I confirmed on the internet and with an expert. It was a bed bug. I was given a refund and left. It was a bad experience and I am thankful we did not spend the night there.

Perfect getaway for couples. Cozy, comfortable and spacious accommodations. Do yourself a favor and call ahead and book the spa room … hot tub, sauna, and massage chair. Restaurant was outstanding … excellent food and drinks. I'd come back here in a heartbeat.

The building was beautiful, the new bar setup is really nice, plenty of seating. The bartender was great, really on the ball. I had a mushroom pizza with truffle oil — — might be the best pizza I've ever had. Wife had grass fed beef hamburger, she said it was excellent. Wish we had found this place awhile ago.

My stay at the Inn was for the Steampunk event held in September. The event was a great time, and the Hartness House did a great job providing for the event.

Stopped in on the advice of the owner of trout river brewery who we met at the Ludlow Farmers Market. The bar room is nice and lively on a Friday night with a middle aged crowd. The beer selection is a bit small for my preferences but adequately stocked with some of Vermont's best. We had dinner, wild salmon and a burger; both were excellent. Nice presentation and great sides. The chef, Nick, came around and was very personable and excited about what was happening at the inn, he, like all the staff we interacted with were creating a great vibe.

Dinner was fantastic! Nick Matush is making extraordinary food in this magical old mansion… the dirty potatoes, shark tacos, and surf and turf were all delicious and inventive. The beer and wine selection are great and the service is friendly. I can't wait to go back!

The chef, Nick is Amazing, and the super weird telescope tour is super weirdly interesting!

Love this place, old historic hone with an amazing staff. The museum is also a real treat and I highly suggest it.

We stayed at Hartness House in August 2014 for several nights. This property was, at that point in history, in desperate need of millions of dollars in restoration, renovation, and rehabilitation. The pictures on the website are old and have most likely been photoshopped. They do not represent the Inn in its current condition. The bar had been cleaned out and closed by the owners. The only food available was breakfast, which was excellent. The dining room was closed otherwise. Buyer beware! If you choose to go to Hartness House, you will be disappointed if you go, expecting it to look as it does on the website. This mansion, built by the former governor and industrialist, is a tired, old, rundown, vestige of a bygone era. If the new owners invest the money to restore it to its former grandeur, it would be magnificent… but it is not that now. We stayed in the room at the head of the stairs on the second floor. It was clean, and comfortable. The bed and pillows were quite nice. The shower/bathroom, like all old showers/bathrooms, needed work, but was adequate. The recent posts on the website indicate that the dining room is open since the new owners took control. Ask questions when you book so you know for certain what is available to you. Hartness House is a charming place… as long as you know what you're getting when you book there. I happen to love beautiful, old homes, having lived for years in Newport, R. I.

The new Innkeepers are awesome! Experienced at both managing and treating people right, Energetic, Wonderful people! They are making the Hartness House one of the best Restaurant, Inn, and Wedding destinations in all of Vermont.

The Hartness House is a charming little vintage house which has an array of rooms that really harken back to the time it was built (1904). I was there roughly a month ago for my sister's wedding — and I apologize for the lateness of my review — and found it overall a pleasant and well run operation. Miss Alla, the very soft spoken and polite owner, did a wonderful job of running a tight ship behind the scenes, was efficient and understated, and her staff were equally polite and unobtrusive. The food was excellent, too; I had Kulbyaka, a rich salmon en croute dish, and it nearly did me in with how delicious it was. I found the environment relaxing, myself, above all, and found myself entering into a Zen state because of that. If anything bad had happened at all, I would not have lost my mind over it, put it that way. The only tiny issue I had was that my toilet kept leaking every time I flushed it, but I will put that down to the difficulty of finding a plumber on the weekend, so I am not overly upset over that. Overall, I'd definitely go there to stay again. The soft and mild olden days charm of this place drew me in and I was most pleased. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I recently got married at the Hartness House Inn. This was our second stay and I chose this place for it's vintage character and old-time charm. My wedding was a small affair with just 8 family members and close friends. Although the Inn is very large, all my guests and I always felt comfortable like we were at home. It was especially convenient to have all my close friends and relatives stay close together for this weekend. My wedding package came with many things but I will always fondly remember the gorgeous suite with fireplace. The living room was large and we invited our friends to join us and spend time together yakking, snacking, and enjoying ourselves by the warm fire. I must admit that I spent almost no time planning my wedding. After meeting with Alla and Lena on our first visit, they planned a complete wedding ceremony and reception for us. It included a private ceremony room, arranging a Justice-of-the-Peace, a photographer, my bridal flowers, and organizing a reception dinner for everyone in one of their dining rooms. After the wedding ceremony, the photographer took us around the inside and outside of the property to get some very beautiful pictures of our wedding and our guests. The reception dinner was spectacular and everyone complimented the staff and chef on a great job. The following morning at breakfast we received all our photographs, and with our guests, looked at them on my laptop — — I was very happy.

I won a vacation package to stay at the Hartness House for the weekend. I wasn't expecting 5 star hotel quality, but my mouth dropped in amazement at the beautiful interior, with gorgeous classic furniture you don't see much anymore. I'm a furniture fanatic so I was really happy to see the interior decorations. My hotel room was fantastic as well (the pictures on this page doesn't do justice to the real thing), with clean and had a unique feel to it. From the dining room restaurant to the spa and the front lobby, everything was gorgeous. The staff is especially friendly to me and that's why I would not mind coming back here again.

I came to Hartness House with my boyfriend to spend the weekend on their getaway deal (2 Nights for around $300). I believe the highlights about this place are definitely the Avera spa and the tavern restaurant. Food is pretty savory and delicious, classic New England dining with candle lit tables. The roasted pepper lime chicken is probably their best dish besides the Mushroom Steak. This was perfect for our weekend experience after a week of hard work. The rooms are beautiful, very well decorated classic windows. It really feels like you're staying at a mansion. I really enjoyed the experience.
