Excellent beef sirloin and a delicious tomato basil soup with coconut (milk? ). The atmosphere was largely by candlelight in this vintage roadside inn. Though it was off the beaten track and was quite a ways from the main Berkshire towns such as Stockbridge, Lenox, and Great Barrington, this in was well worth the trip as the food and service were as good as they get.

It was such a great place to dine. Food was excellent. Our server was attentive and efficient. Other diners in our dining room were great company with great conversations even though we all never met. One of its kind experience to enjoy our dinner with other visitors in the area.

Just had another wonderful dinner there. Tasting menu with wine pairings. Food was excellent with top notch wines. And an extra pour, maybe because our anniversary. The atmosphere here is so great. Candlelight in the dining rooms and hallways. Only in he bathroom do you see electric light. Service is excellent and friendly. Tasting with wine is at higher end of costs, but worth every penny. So wait for a special occasion, or make it one.

We had dinner in the candle lit dining room. The food was well prepared and presented. The staff very attentive. Our meal was delicious and creative. We will be back very soon. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This is a place you have to put on your list of fine dining places to visit. The atmosphere is wonderful and the cuisine is exceptional, as well as the service. We highly recommend.

Great staff, friendly and inviting. Place is beautiful and is nice and quiet. Went there in the winter and was very comfortable even in the snow. The town's in the area are nice and quaint. Definitely recommend visiting.

An absolutely delicious meal, and the staff makes you feel as though you are their most important table. The little extras, appetizer and amuse-bouche, take it from fine dining to a dining experience, one that you will remember for some time.

Our waitress was very kind, and the seating on the patio was quite relaxing. Our prix fixe dinner was excellent, as well. Highly recommended. A bit remote, but that's part of the draw I suppose.

The best meal we have ever had. Just edging out a meal we had in Florence years ago. Every bite was a delight! How wonderful to have that meal in a room lit only by candlelight and a fireplace. We brought in our own wine, a “mistake” we won’t make next time. Incredible wine list!

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for five years now and it’s one of our favorite places in the world, truly. This weekend, we stayed in their second on property home with our two Labrador Retrievers and it was exquisite. The room is a lovely blend of colonial charm and modern amenities. Come here if you are looking to enter a world where time slows down intentionally and leaves time for connecting, reflecting, and relaxing. We’ve seen people who live rushed lives and/or can’t slow down be frustrated by this pace at the restaurant but it’s reassuring to us that we’re in the right place. There are also lovely state parks and conservation land nearby that make for the perfect respite. Regarding the food, the cocktails and bar are exquisite, super wine list, and we have never been disappointed in the restaurant. It feels like being in another time as things slow down and there is no electricity in the dining room — just fireplaces and candelight. We will be back as often as we can! Thanks for Peter and his staff for the great time and service.

Amazing place. We were there for our company Christmas party and spent the night. The food was incredible we had the tasting and every course was absolutely on point. We also had two vegetarians in our party and they were very accommodating to thier needs. The room was beautiful as well comfortable and roomy. I will definitely be back.

My friends are I went here for a few days and it was fabulous! We definitely will go back! So country and beautiful there — lots of hiking! The food I must say was the best food I ever had especially the lunchenette they always own. Had the best caeser salad I ever had! Wonderful time, wonderful memories!

This place is all about the food. Oh man the food is amazing. Stayed two nights and was blown away with their interpretation of a continental breakfast. Really, hotels should start using a different term because this is a true continental breakfast. A selection of perfectly ripe melons is accompanied with yogurt homemade granola and not one but four kinds of fresh berries. Coffee is served via a French press pot at your table and Tea is properly served hot and brewed in a small pot. A basket of warm pastries brought your table is simply to die for And to accompany this you have fresh, soft high-quality butter and a selection of jams. Dinner was likewise excellent, both the food and the service and the atmosphere of dining rooms lit entirely by candlelight is a treat.

Our family (party of 13) gathered to celebrate our mothers 90th birthday this evening. The staff was friendly and attentive. The meal was a delight. Exellent fare and sevice. Extra time was taken to provide for me (the only vegetarian in the group) with my chosen food choices. I appreciate all the time and extra effort our servers went to to take care of our large party. Owen and I had a wonderful dinner tonight. Owen enjoyed the duck and I loved the salmon. Our room is lovely and the front porch reminds us of our trip to Charleston.

Service was outstanding. Our waiter was very unpretentious and down to Earth. We didn't realize until we arrived and were seated that the menu for the night was pre fixe… this made for a more expensive meal than we had initially intended, which was a little disconcerting. Our fellow diners were obnoxious in the way only the rich can be, and it became tough to ignore their conversations at fimes, but I guess that's to be expected at a place like this. The inn is very old, and we dined by candlelight, which was romantic, but it was almost too dark in the restaurant. Our meals were delicious, but again that mandatory pre fixe wasn't exactly what we were expecting. We probably won't come back here again if we ever get back to the Berkshires, but the experience was worth having once.

Beautiful room and setting, but bad communication. A few guests mentioned that they didn't know how check out or breakfast worked. In the end a great place to stay if you can handle having no cell service, spotty Wi-Fi and having to ask a lot of questions.

Charming should not be mistaken for worn and expensive. While the restaurant is superb, the Inn detached from the restaurant is anything but. There was water damage in the closet which lent a musty smell to the robes hanging in it, the fireplace had not been cleaned and gave off a terrible oder, the bathroom jacuzzi did not have a shower curtain (really odd) while the toilet was in the other room and the badea was next to jacuzzi? There was unfinished plastering with exposed electrical plate next to very hot light strips on sink mirror and the comforter was stained (which was replaced) and the chairs were completely tattered — ridiculous! For the amount of money spent, charm does not warrant this condition. It needs to be over hauled! Pretty much solidified the age of BnB's/Inn have past. Irony is the Fairmont in Great Barrington was less expensive and beautifully done — and clean. Again the Restaurant is fabulous and our bill was adjusted. Just hope this room will be given the attention it deserves.

We stayed at the inn on a weeknight in midsummer. Highlights were a dip in the pool surrounded by espaliered fruit trees, and good local advice from the friendly and professional hosts. As promised, we had a comfortable, well-furnished room in the Thayer annex and beautifully presented Continental breakfast. I left a favorite garment behind and hosts cheerfully arranged its return We look forward to another visit.

Absolute best food, staff and ambiance in the Berkshires and beyond. The Old Inn is a very special place and is a destination in and of itself.

The food was excellent, although there was no meat at the breakfast buffet (but the baked goods were off the charts). Also the walls are a bit thin so if you're planning a passionate night of lovemaking it can be a bit awkward. The staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable about local sites.

The whole experience was superior. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. The room was lovely and appropriate for the age of the inn. I found the owners open, friendly and hard working. All the staff were lovely. A very good value and wonderful experience.

We dined last night at the Old Inn on the Green and had an absolutely wonderful experience. Both my offspring are in the restaurant business, one having worked with Jean-Georges Vongerichten in the city and the other owning a restaurant in Greenwich Village. As a result, we've experienced lots of fine dining and this evening's prix fixe dinner was one of the best. The service was impeccable, with an attentive, amusing and knowledgeable waiter who guided us in our wine choice. The food, for all four of us, was exquisite. I'm an extremely good cook and one of my measures of a great restaurant is whether or not I could have done better — this menu surpassed my best efforts. Deliciously smooth cauliflower soup, delicately seasoned Scottish salmon in a rich, creamy sauce, delightful Pommes Financier — all amazing, and enhanced by the amuse bouches which also came out from the kitchen. Bravo! We cannot wait to come back again.

My husband and I just returned from a three day getaway here this September 2014. We throughly enjoyed our stay at this 250 year old Inn. We stayed in room 205 in the Thayer House. The room was very comfortable and furnished with beautiful antiques, and the huge claw foot tub in the center of the bathroom was heaven. Relaxing while soaking in this tub encouraged all kinds of wonderful thoughts and memories of years gone by. Slumbering in the big comfortable bed in the adjoining bedroom invited my husband to softly snore away contently. The view from the many large windows with antique glass was magnificient! You could actually see the rippling in these glass panes. Beautiful sprawling grounds just beckoned us to stroll them. The care takers Peter and Merideth were as friendly and welcoming as could be. They always had a broad warm smile to greet us. Merideth graciously provided us with a small refridge to keep our wine and beverages cold. Although the cellular and internet service was challenged, a land line phone was on your bedside table if you desired to use it. Merideth's suggestion for dinner that evening in Great Barrington was spot on. After a short drive to Williamstown we arrived at the newly renovated Clark Institute, were we were rewarded with a sight few have ever seen — the original 1215 Magna Carta on loan from a church in England! The exhibit was ending in December, but our timing to see it was great! Unbelievable!

My wife and I had dinner with friends. The food and service were outstanding. Entrees included salmon (with mussels and lobster sauce), breast of chicken, liver and cod. Soups, deserts … everything was superb in a dining room lit with candles. The atmosphere was relaxed and the waiters were attentive. We can't wait to return.

I’ve been using this website for years and years, and have never written a review, but people should really know about my experience at the Old Inn. The short story: Peter, the owner and chef at the Old Inn, and (most of) his staff, don’t like hosting and accommodating wedding parties. I’m confused as to why he took a booking with our party, only to end up treating us in an extraordinarily rude manner. The whole story: We got married at the Gedney this past September. We originally booked the Mepal Manor for the rehearsal dinner, the spa, and about 6 rooms, but were informed about 3 months later that the Manor and the Spa were sold and would no longer be available for our use. Michael, Gedney’s general manager, suggested we move our dinner, hair and makeup preparations, and stay to the Old Inn On the Green. This is what most of the other stumped wedding parties were doing. My husband had numerous conversations with Peter on the phone during the reservation process. He was always very nice and accommodating, and in the end, we booked 4 out of the 6 rooms in the Thayer house (the biggest ones), and a private room at the restaurant for a party of 35 people for our rehearsal dinner. The rehearsal dinner was a mess. We made the big mistake of not preparing sitting arrangements, and by the time my husband, his parents (who were paying), my parents, my maid of honor, her husband, and I arrived we had no where to sit.

Best food — service was not good at all — waiter was not having a good day and his attitude over shadowed a beautiful setting and the talents of one of the best Chefs in country. It is still my favorite place and everyone has an off day. Would still recommend without hesitation. If waiter seems grumpy ask the lovely host for a different table and server.
